Betting Louisville wishes that the I-265 bridge that they have wanted to build for the last several years was built right now, the I-65 and US 31 bridges are going to be nightmares for the foreseeable future, until they can get some repairs made....

Sitting in East St. Louis today, waiting on a load again, but can't complain too much, have 3,000 miles for this week, so a nice check will be coming.

Back later, most likely...

Have been watching the memorials off and on for most of the day, interspersed with doing some things around the house.  I still remember what Walt and I were doing that morning:  I had the day off from KMart, and we got up and went to our favorite restaurant, for breakfast.  After that, we were driving to the bank, to get a little bit of spending money, to get some shopping done.  As we were driving to the bank, we heard on the car radio, the announcement that something major had happened, in NYC, regarding the World Trade Center.  After I came out of the bank, we went across the street, to KMart, and went directly to the Electronics Department, where I was working at that time.  We stayed there for awhile, watching it on the TVs.  Then, Walt and I looked at each other, and said:  "Let's go home!"  We came straight home, and stayed glued to the TV, and praying our heads off.  When I went back to work the next day, we were all on guard, literally watching everyone who came into the store.  No one was in a kidding, joking mood.  Everyone, including the customers, were all in a very sobering mood.

Randy, heard on our local news this morning, that the officials will be reviewing everything and planning what to do, for the next three weeks.  Imagine we'll have backed up traffic, for several months, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

For our Sunday Dinner, we have:

1.  Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad

2.  Leftover beef stew w/freshly baked cornbread and garden salad

3.  Open face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed potatoes and beef gravy, with your choice of cole slaw or garden salad

Regular list of desserts are available.

Everyone have a very good afternoon and take care.

A very solemn day today. After all of the stories have been written, and all the actions taken, in the end you have to respect the results. There hasn't been a terrorist attack in North American since.

What I remember of that day. First off, you have to remember we are 2 time zones west of NY. I wasn't working full time anymore, so I didn't get up until between 9:30 and 10:00, which was already almost noon in NY. By this time the original stories had been written, and the pictures and videos posted on the internet. That is where I found out about the attacks. I could not believe what I was reading and seeing. I recall vividly how shockingly clear all of the images were. It was as though you were looking at a movie. Looking back at that day over the years, I have thought about that a great deal. I think it must have been my first exposure to the capability of digital imaging. It seemed to me that how we all saw news changed from that day forward.

I turned on the TV, but I wasn't satisfied with the coverage I was getting. Earlier that year our cable TV provider had brought in WPIX from NY, and I had tumbled on to their morning news, which was how I would see one news report before I would go to bed. I had started to develop a rapport with their news anchors, and I kept trying to see if they would come back on the air. In mid-afternoon our time they did, and I watched their coverage almost continually for the next twelve hours or so. I stayed up long enough to hear the weather lady and the woman news anchor, who both had families, discuss what they had told their children. I still vividly recall what the weather lady had told her, I think, ten year old son that evening.

"Some very bad men came to town today, but they are not coming back tomorrow." She was right.

Started the day lowering the flags at my house and at the fire station, then set off to the county fire training center to set up the sound system for the memorial there later in the day.  My sound system is battery powered and perfect for such applications.

After that, I headed back to the local train show to man the railroad's booth there.  I hated to miss the memorial, but I was the only person available for the booth.

Next to our booth there was some empty space, so I secured another table and set up the following display:

A number of folks paused there, and some took pictures as well.

The trucks are both 1:50 models.  The new truck is the TWH Leesburg, VA Seagrave aerial, and the older is the Corgi Seagrave 70th Anniversary aerial, lettered for Columbus, OH.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Larry, that is a mighty fine picture.  If I had been there, I would have taken a picture as well.

Traffic is a reaaaallll mess around here this morning.  Officials are now telling commuters to leave late, so the stand still traffic can ease up.  There has already been 3 accidents on I-265 coming into town.

Coffee, juices, hot water for hot tea, iced teas are freshly made and ready to go.  Regular breakfast items are hot and on the warmer/serving station.

Everyone have a beautiful morning, take care and see you all later.

....A very nice morning in Muncie.  Just did the barber shop run.  Have a new telephone set to install....Base, and 3 satellites around the house.  The current ones, some have the readout displayed at times, and then not displayed, so we're just installing this new group of base and satellites.  Also maintain a hard wired unit in the kitchen.

What a difference a few hours made in our weather yesterday. We were sitting at 74° in the early afternoon and by the time the 11:00 news came on we were down to 50°. But the big change was the wind. A front moved in between 2 and 3 PM and the wind shifted to north 25-28 mph. It really cooled everything outside and inside down. It is very cloudy and dark now at 2:45 with a temp. of 54°. The wind has calmed down to a couple of miles per hour.

I liked Larry's picture. There was brief coverage of various ceremonies in US locations after the main 9/11 story on our 11:00 news last night, and there were a pair of Aerial Ladder Trucks in Middletown or Middleton NJ that were set up just like in Larry's picture. I had just looked at Larry's photo before the news came on, so I thought it was quite neat.

No new local RR news today.

Evening all.  Don't really have an excuse for not being around this morning, other than haven't been back on the computer.

Supper is on the warmer/serving station.

1.  Leftover pizzas from Saturday

2.  Leftovers from Sunday Dinner

3.  Your choice of beef or pork barbecue w/choice of fries or chips, and garden salad

Joe, good to know that Matt is doing well in school.  I'm sure he'll improve even more, as the school year continues along.

Everyone have a very  good evening, hope you've had a good day, take care, and see you all in the morning.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Hope you all had a very good evening.  Starting out, here in Louisville, with clear skies and a temp of 68 degrees, going for a high around 86 degrees today.  Right now, the winds are calm, but should have a breeze later on.

The only signs I see of anyone being in here last night, is that the food from supper is all gone.  Have cleaned up the dishes, and gotten a fresh start for today.

Coffee is brewed, juices are freshly made, and regular breakfast menu is ready and on the warmer/serving station.

Quentin, my doctor's appointment to have my knee checked is Thursday.  It is still tender, and a very nice bruise is showing up on the right knee.  The left knee is beginning to feel better, not quite as achy, and yesterday, had very little pain in it.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all sometime this afternoon.

....'Nor here either....We had roughly near 90 this afternoon.  Indy reported low 90's...I really didn't check our instrument this afternoon.

Guess a nap got in the way.

I see Murray is still cooking down yonder.

With my office window open here and last night's full moon coming up over the eastern trees, and I hear a train horn {a mile north of me}, on N S Frankfort line....All of this setting is still very nice.

Not too bad here in NY just yet, but today's lows are supposed to be the highs over the weekend.

The thunderbumpers they suggested we might see were just that, a suggestion.  Everything went south and east of us.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  I apoligize for not making it back in yesterday.  Had some printer issues, and Sarah worked on getting it fixed all afternoon and evening.  May have to end up calling Kodak.Grumpy For some reason, something is not registering, between the printer and the computer.  Confused

Coffee has finished brewing, hot water is ready for hot tea, iced teas are freshly brewed for today, and fresh juices are ready.  Bacon, sausage, eggs, toast are on the warmer/serving station.

Produce went well yesterday, although for some reason (they never give us a reason), the Bread/Pastry truck did not show up.  We had 51 people yesterday.

Mookie, by tomorrow morning, we are supposed to be down in the 50s, with the cold front and rain coming in late this afternoon, probably around rush hour.  Think our highs tomorrow are only to be in the 60s.

As far as the bridge and traffic goes, still discussing what to do, and now they're saying they may have to look into building a new bridge.  Will it be names Sherman Minton, too?  Our elected officials need to get their heads out of their rear ends, and get an East End bridge built, and possibly another bridge somewhere along the Ohio River.  If they had done that several years ago, instead of all the fighting, discussion, and procrastination, maybe we could have avoided all this trouble now?

Although, we do have a river shuttle that started this morning.  The Star of Jeffersonville is shuttling people across the Ohio to Louisville, to help with the congestion across the Clark Memorial and Kennedy Bridges.  Fare:  $1 each way. Getting off my SoapBox now.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and barring any more computer troubles, I'll see you all later.

CW - I am so fed up with all politicians, I can barely watch the news.

Must remain calm or they will have one less taxpayer - or the alternative -  I will be corkless.

Talking 38 tonite for a low?  Wow...."partial freeze expected".  Guess that means your plants will only be partially dead?

Tree - pull the curtain shut today between NY and MT (that should do it).  Until at least Friday....

57 and sun, but calm before the freeze only.

Mookie, I hear you:  I am so disgusted with the whole lot, including local politicians.  And I'm not particularly happy with any of the "candidates" who have already declared themselves candidates for next year.  Think I could do a write-in and nominate you for our next President??  You would be a heck of a lot better than anyone who is in Washington, DC now!!Smile  I'd vote for you in a half a heartbeat.

For the rest of the day, here is the menu I have come up with:

1.  Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, w/refried beans and chopped lettuce w/diced tomatoes

2.  Moo Goo Gai Pan, Beef w/broccoli, Pepper steak, Szechuan shrimp, Fried scallops, and Seafood combo, all served with fried rice

3.  Burger, cheeseburger w/fries and garden salad

Think Walt and I will be spending part of the afternoon or early evening, vacuuming furnace, getting ready to have a little bit of heat in the house for overnight.  Going to be quite chilly around here in the morning, according to the weather guessers.

Everyone enjoy your meal, your afternoon and take care.

CW - I am so fed up with all politicians, I can barely watch the news.

It's gotten so most elections are basically a matter of selecting the "least worst" of the candidates...

First cold front leaves us with a high around 70 today (vs 80 yesterday).  Should be interesting what the second front does to us...

Well, talked to Driver and he suggested Mookie for Prez wouldn't be all that exciting.  So I went thru the list - Mookie Truman, Mookie Kennedy, Mookie Eisenhauer, Mookie FDR, and decided I have the only one that is truly good!

Cool beans!!  MOOKIE FOR PRESIDENT has a very nice ring to it, doesn't it?  Believe you would have several votes from fellow U>S> forum members.  Now then, who would be your campaign manager?  I'm thinking of 1 or 2 who would be very good campaign managers:  1 lives out west, and the other lives down south.Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin
