Modelcar ...What a beautiful Monday morning
...What a beautiful Monday morning
+1!
It is sunny and 73° with a high in the eighties forecast. I realized I haven't been posting weather info the last week or so because our weather has been so nice I haven't bothered to check the temp's. We are in for a change tomorrow with rain and temp's down in the fifties. We are not expected to get back up into the seventies until the weekend. I wish July and the first half of August had been like this.
It is good to see that Hurricane Irene has passed without major devastation.
I don't see any new local RR news.
CW, thanks for lunch, and everyone have a good day.

Not so.

I certainly feel for the ones who have had loved ones die and/or hurt during Irene's rampage. Will be remembering them in thoughts and prayers.
Bruce, Joe et al, just got through warming up the leftovers from Sunday Dinner: the meat loaf, beans, etc., and baked some more rolls. Plenty of tossed salad in the fridge, too.
The last time I looked at our outside temp, it was 79, 80 degrees, and that was a couple of hours ago. Not sure if we're going to make it the 85 degrees forecast for today or not. Still feels pretty good outside, so not going to complain!! Later in the week, we're supposed to be up into the 90s.
Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you tomorrow.
tree68 Not so.
I posted that before I had a chance to read later reports on the CTV News. There is a lot of follow up damage from all of the wind and rain that came with the hurricane. And the death toll, unfortunately, is still climbing. Hope none of our posters are still experiencing difficulties.
Afternoon Everyone!
I'll have a tall ice tea please. Currently sunny and 107 here in Alamo City.
Enjoy your Monday!
We have had highs in the nineties, and very little rain at our house--but there have been heavy showers in the area which have caused flooding here and there. Last night, we woke to the sound of an extensive thunderbumper which dropped a little rain on our house. We expect cooler weather towards the end of this week.
As to Irene's force, it is sad to see so much damage in the East. My personal knowledge is of two friends who live on Harkers Island, just off the coast of North Carolina, near Morehead City. They buttoned up, and went to Chapel Hill, where he had taught at UNC. Yesterday, he told me their house had lost a few shingles but almost all the flooring on their deck was gone. They certainly did get off with light damage.

Good Tuesday morning everyone. A cool morning here in Louisville, with a temps in the low to mid 60s. Last reading I saw was 64 degrees. Should make it up to about 88 or so.
I am remembering all those who have been impacted by Hurricane Irene. Hopefully, the death toll won't get much higher.
Coffee is freshly brewed, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Breakfast is on the serving station.
Everyone have a good morning, take care and I'll see you all some time this afternoon. Hopefully, we won't have 93 people to show up for Produce today. Maybe 65, 70 people? Might have better control than we did last week.
more chores this afternoon.back to work tonight.Cw thanks for supper.Larry hows your railroad holding up?
Well, produce went well this morning. Actually had 62 people, but they were all well behaved. I love it when they mind their p's & q's, and act like adults, and not toddlers having tantrums!
Here is our menu for the rest of the day:
1. Boiled cabbage and corned beef brisket
2. Roast beef w/mashed taters, carrots, broccoli w/cheddar cheese sauce and corn on the cob (and boiled cabbage if you want some with your roast), cole slaw or tossed garden salad
Think our temp actually got down to 61 degrees just after 8 this morning. But it is back up in the 80s, and you can feel the heat picking up.
Think I'm gonna try to go lie down: sinuses are acting up and have one of those sinus pressure headaches. Everyone enjoy your afternoon and evening, take care, and I can, I'll try to get back in later this evening.
JoeKohLarry hows your railroad holding up?
One tongue-in-cheek post on our railroad Yahoo group noted "terrible damage" at Thendara, then reported that our trainmaster had set the overturned flower pot back up and all was well....
The Moose River rose quickly (six feet in about 12 hours), but is now subsiding, having never reached flood stage. We ran on the more troublesome end (for washouts and trees down) on Sunday and encountered no problems.
It's amazing what a few miles can mean, though. I live about 40 miles west (and a ways north) of our Thendara base of operations and we got just a quarter inch of rain here - hardly enough to note.
Fifty miles east of Thendara, they've had some major problems with flooding.
Afternoon all.
Too late for lunch, but too early for supper. CW, I will have to come back for some corned beef and cabbage. I haven't had that in ages.
The rains came and we are down to 50°. The low is forecast to be 45°. It must be a very thick layer of cloud, I have had to turn lights on in every room I go into today. And I remember to turn them off when I leave.
Tomorrow morning I am changing from cable TV to Internet based TV provided by the main telephone company here in Alberta . Canada is making the switch to digital TV tomorrow at midnight that you folks made a year or so ago. I don't really understand what I am getting into, but I had to change what I have anyway to get this new kind of TV, and by making the switch to the telephone company my total phone, internet, and TV bill will be less than what I pay now. One bill to the phone company for my internet and phone and one bill to the cable TV outfit. I kind of hope this sticks it to them a little bit, I never have cared for their attitude.
Long story short, if you don't hear from me for a couple of days it may mean I am up to my eyeballs in operating manuals and connectors. Wish me luck.
No new local RR news.
Good Wednesday morning everyone. Fair skies w/a temp of 70 degrees here in Louisville, KY this morning. Going for a high of 91 degrees. A/C is back on.
Bruce, hope you get everything together, without too much difficulty.
Coffee, juices, teas and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. And breakfast is on the serving station.
Everyone have a very good morning, take care and see you all later.
...Found we had a little rain overnight. Doubt if it was much. Haven't checked the gage yet.
To be partly sunny by afternoon. Trying to shuffle clouds away now.
66 earlier this morning. Mid 80's for today, then a couple days of 90's.
Quentin
a few sprinkles this morning.muggy out this afternoon.guessers are saying maybe thunderstorms for the weekend.cw thanks for supper for tonight.need to get chores done.
....Actually we started into the 90's again today. 90 at 5;30 this afternoon.
Good evening.
Well, the new TV system is in, and it wasn't as bad as I had feared. There are a couple of questions to still sort out but for the most part I think I understand how to make it work. The software the new "box" uses is made by Microsoft, so it is not really very much different than the Windows Media Center that I had already been using to watch TV on this computer.
That will have to come to an end. These guys have really figured things out eight ways from Sunday how to prevent bootlegging their signal. If you want to run two TV's in your home you have to pay for two "boxes". Since my apartment is small, I only have need for one TV anyway.
Back to the weather. Everybody from the TV guy to the weatherman on the six o"clock news is complaining about it. It is still raining and only 45°. Which was almost our high today. It should get to 60° tomorrow with the sun returning later in the day. But what really got people talking is that the the ski resorts above Banff and Lake Louise got their first snowfall today. So begins another season.
I will check on the local RR news and see you all tomorrow.
We are finishing August with having had no day's temperature above 99 (f it got that high).Tonight, a dry cold front is moving in (I had not heard of such a name; Willy, if you are still around, can you expound upon this?) Friday, this cold front is to have moved on, and we will again go up into the nineties.
Bruce, a couple of months ago, we got new boxes for our TV sets and, where we had had a separate box for each of three sets we now have one box that serves one set and one box that serves two sets--so our monthly cost is less. I do not like the double box because there is no way to turn it on or off except with a remote control; the old box in the living room could be turned on or off directly. So, I keep one of the old controls on top of the new box.
Back from a day on the railroad (last day of train robberies). Saw the results of several trees down on the tracks, all cut back now, but no other damage.
Time for bed.
Good Friday Thursday morning everyone. Sorry about not making it back in yesterday afternoon/evening. Too many things going on, not all good, either.
Coffee has finished brewing, juices are freshly made, water is heating for our hot tea drinkers; Gatorade is cold, as are the freshly brewed teas, waiting to be poured over ice. Also have plenty of milk this morning: regular, chocolate and strawberry.
On the serving station this morning: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, blueberries, blackberries, kiwi and papaya. There's even several kinds of cereal on the counter, if anyone just wants a bowl of cereal.
Today is to get a little hotter than yesterday. Supposed to make it up to 96, 98 degrees, and over the weekend, 99, 100 degrees, with heat index in the 100s. And, according to the almanacs we have, between 9/4/and 9/7, we have a possibility of more hurricanes and storms forming all along the East Coast. Lets hope the almanacs have it wrong.
Everyone have a good day, and hopefully, I'll make it back in later.

Good afternoon.
It is time for a late lunch so I thought I would drop by. Very nice looking day outside. Only 57° but dry and sunny. It dropped down to 40° last night once the clouds cleared out. We are looking for a high of 70° for Saturday.
The learning process for the new TV system is going well, although I think I am paying for a few channels I can't receive. I have to get that cleared up. Beyond that though it is working well.
There is no new RR news in my area, which is good, because it seems like they have their hands full cleaning up after Hurricane Irene. And now I read there are more storms forming.
Not too much else to report on the start of a new month.
Well, guess what, folks: our actual temp today was 100 degrees, without the heat index! Relative humidity is only 37%. Current temp is down to 96 degrees. Hottest day of the year, and hottest September in 57 years. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!
For supper tonight, here is the menu:
1. Sloppy joes with chips and a nice, cold tossed garden salad
2. Turkey, ham, beef or chicken subs/hoagies with chips and salad
Even with AC, it's too cotton pickin' hot to be in the kitchen, doing a lot of cooking.
Desserts tonight: I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!! Any flavor you want, including popsicles, fudge bars, ice cream bars, etc.
Everyone enjoy your evening, take care, and I'll see you sometime tomorrow: not sure if I'll make it in, in the morning: need to pay Bills, and then I have a regular followup checkup with family doctor.
Good Friday morning everyone. Hope you all had a good evening, slept well, and are ready and rarin' to go this morning, as the long holiday weekend starts.
Our morning temp is 79 degrees, going for a projected high of 101 degrees. At least the humidity is down, otherwise it'd be very unbearable outside later on today, as things really start heating up.
Coffee and juices are freshly made and ready to go. Breakfast is on the serving station.
You all have a good morning, and I'll see you sometime later on.
Houston Ed - if you see three shiny new fireboats running around the harbor in the next year or so (at about $5M a pop), they're being built about 20 miles from me...
Apparently the contract is "only a few signatures away," so it's a good possibility this'll be the case.
They'll be 70' long and all aluminum.
triple h's today.did see some trains after moving the treadmill to new owners house in wauseon. We are screaming for ICE Cream.
Well, got bills paid, and made my dr. appointment! Blood pressure is down to 100/80, and weight is down to 136.4. Then I came home, about 1:00, and promptly took a nap. Joe, I hear you. Not quite sure what our temp is, but it is hot, hot, hot!!
Have out Friday Fish Fry ready. It is very cut down tonight, as we only have Fish sandwiches, fries, cole slaw, hush puppies and cole slaw.
For dessert: ICE CREAM, iiICE CREAM, ICE CREAM!! (chocolate, vanilla, peach, rocky road, death by chocolate, strawberry)
Everyone have a good evening, keep cool, take care and see you later.
I'll have a "meat lovers" pizza tonight (pepperoni, ham, sausage).
Back to mowing the lawn for now, though.
Ice cream is the sooothi'n sauve for most ailments. Just take a heaping helping, more or less on the severity of the problem. Double up for heat. HEH HEH .
