Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Larry, sounds like you had a very good trip!  But I know you are glad to be back home.

Well, school finally gets to start here today.  Buses are rolling (have already seen a couple, three go by the house this morning.  Also see that Louisville, KY is making  international news, with the guy who is supposed to be involved in the Australian fake bomb incident.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, and breakfast is on the serving station:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, oatmeal, to give everyone a good start for the day.  Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

....Another very nice morning here in central Indiana.  Still have A/C running on low, but just to keep any humidity under control.

Again, watched the space station pass overhead last evening.  It appeared at 9:22.  It was visible again later for a 2nd visible pass.  Very clear skies, so I took advantage of it.  Had a good pair of field glasses to use, but it still just appears like a very bright star, but moves right along.  Perhaps If  I would have steadied my hands / arms holding the glasses, it might produced some shape to the object.

Was able to set right on our patio and look high in the west to NE sky for a real good look at it's path, etc...Such a clear night also produces sights of high flying jets passing over.

Anyone interested, you can find your local time to view just by asking on address line about timing for the space station to pass over.

Noted our local paper had a front page article this morning, that Ball State Un. will provide busses to a major foot ball game down to Indy this Fall.  They attempted to engage an Amtrak train to transport Ball State students to Indy but this time of the year {Labor Day holiday}, Amtrak does not have the extra equipment to handle the request.

Too bad they don't seem to be able to refurbish enough broken or wrecked cars back to service.   No doubt, Money...!!  Same old story....Amtrak must limp along in mediocre condition.  Too bad they can't operate progressively.

Q - You have complete trainsets at Illinois and Indiana RR museums. They can't finagle things like Iowa does?...somebody isn't thinking or trying very hard. All you need are chair cars. (I guess if Ball State or Purdue are graduating drones, they won't find much work, especially in today's environment.Mischief)

The coach shop off of Emerson Ave at Beech Grove must be really scary looking right now. Halloween tours?

Found on a hike/bike trail.  There actually was a curve to the right just out of sight on the left side of the photo...

Nice videos, by the way, Joe & Matt.  I'll take them down to the railroad this weekend so others can get the Deshler experience.

M C:

That's a good thought.  I hadn't even thought of that situation.  At Noblesville, a rail museum, they do have a complete passenger train consist.  That would have been perfect.

Your mention of it, got me to thinking....Some years ago, perhaps 20 or so, I remember seeing that train right here in Muncie pulled up outside of the former NYC passenger station....{Now long gone}.

In fact, I have some photos around here in my collection some place that I took while it was here and I believe it was being used for that very purpose.  I completely forgot about that or I would have put an article in the "letters" of our Muncie StarPress back when I first heard of the intention.....Perhaps a couple months or more ago, it was mentioned in our local paper of the thought of trying to aquire Amtrak services.....

But just one hitch now.....That becomes "The Fair Train", during the Indiana State Fair.  And that fair is running now.  But then, I believe the Football trip will happen around the Labor Day time frame....So, possibly it still might have been available.  During the Fair operation period, it carries passengers from north Indy down to the fair grounds.

I wonder of all the red tape necessary back and forth to CSX,  to allow such a movement now....I don't know what their thoughts might be on that.

It sure would have been very appropriate to make that happen.  Maybe I still should write the letter to the "Letters" column  in our paper.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Hope you all enjoyed your day yesterday.  Did a few things around the house, and never made it back in here yesterday.

75 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Have some t-storms down south of us, in Hart County, moving southeast, so don't guess we'll see any rain locally. Things are rolling right along, with our Ky. State Fair opening at 9 a.m. this morning.  The gates will be opening in about 20 minutes, for people to start rolling in.

Coffee, juices, hot water for hot tea are fresh and ready to go.  Also have some fresh iced tea brewed, and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready and on the serving station.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later.

Afternoon all.

Thought I would drop by after not being here for a couple of days. 59° now with partly cloudy skies. It has been getting chilly the last few nights, down into the high forties. I only caught the tail end of the story, but I heard there were trace amounts of frost west of the city a couple of nights ago.

A couple of bits of RR news. It was reported on a Canadian forum that construction workers have set up a perimeter so they can begin demolition of the CPR roundhouse at Sutherland (Saskatoon, SK). That was getting to be about the last CPR roundhouse still extant. And in the here we go again department, a CP train hit a semi at a grade crossing near Coaldale, AB on the Taber Sub. (Lethbridge-Dunmore(Medicine Hat)). There were no injuries or derailment, but there is a interesting photo. The train hit a semi dump trailer and the engine coupler acted like a one prong forklift and got under the truck frame just enough to lift the trailer off the ground, separate it from the tractor, and carry the trailer about a ¼ mile down the line.

http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110818/CGY_semi_train_110818/20110818/?hub=CalgaryHome

Hope everyone has a good day, and thanks for supper.

Bruce

Evening everyone.  Been kind of a lazy afternoon for Walt and myself.  Been doing a little bit around the house, but nothing too strenuous.  After I made potato salad this morning, have had to rest quite a bit this afternoon, because of my left knee.  It has been giving me more problems lately than it has for a long time.  Guess I should call the DR., and make an appointment to be seen again.

Anywho, here is what is on the serving station for supper tonight:

1.  Fried chicken w/Baby vegetable medley

2.  Hamburgers/cheeseburgers w/fries or potato salad and garden salad

We got up to 90 degrees today (figured as much, since the State Fair opened today), and did get a small thundershower this morning, about 8:30 or so.  Didn't last too long.  And now, it looks like it could start raining again outside.  Getting very overcast out.  Guess I should go out and feed Mother Kitty, Little Mookie, Little Mudhen (yes, we found out the sex of the other kitten last night), and Daddy Cat.

Hope you all had a good day, and will have a good evening.  Take care, and see you all in the morning.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Mookie, for you and Driver, the blanket is always lifted and the door open, so you can get inAfter all these years, it would really be a treat to meet you two!!

Mookie, think we'll do that:  call them Little Mookie and Little Mud!  It does have a certain ring to it, doesn't it?

Coffee is fresh and ready.  Also have made fresh oj, and other juices this morning.  On the serving station, you'll find bacon ,sausage, eggs, and an assortment of doughnuts and danish.

We have a temp of 72 degrees this morning, going for a high of about 91 degrees and the humidity is really picking up.  Due to get some storms coming in sometime this afternoon, going into the the overnight hours.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Peace be with you! 67 and clear in Carolina, expected to go to 92 later and a chance of thunder. Two separate waterspouts formed off the coast and came ashore yesterday. No damage or injuries from either.

Everyone be careful and stay cool

Wow, sure has been dead in here since early this morning.  Managed to get laundry done and folded, etc., and, even though the skies look like they're going to burst with rain any time, so far, nothing.

SIDE DISHES:  Baked beans, Cole slaw, Corn on the cob, Baked cornbread, Fries, Breaded fried mushrooms, Macaroni & Cheese, Greens

DESSERTS:  Cakes:  Chocolate, Yellow w/caramel icing; Pies:  Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Peach and Pecan; Cobblers:  Apple, Cherry, Peach and Strawberry Dumplings

I don't believe I have been in here for the Friday Fish Fry for awhile. It sounds good.

Not too much going on around here beyond everyone complaining about the weather. The boffins as Tom (I think) calls them, have been saying we are going to get highs in the mid seventies and instead we get days like today with a current temperature of 64°, as of 3 PM MDT. And our lows have been in the high forties. Then we can throw in thunderstorms with hail, and cool/cold winds from the west. It has been a lousy week or so.

Ahh, that felt good to vent/rant.AngrySighSoapBox

No new RR news today, beyond what I posted over in the Lounge.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  We're starting out with patchy fog, and a temp is the low to mid 70s.  Going for a high of about 92 degrees, then the storms will come in, late afternoon, early evening.  Probably about the   time Sarah's plane is due in, around 5:30.

Coffee, juices, hot water for hot tea, iced teas are all fresh and ready to go.

On our Saturday Morning buffet:  bacon, fried ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits w/your choice of plain milk gravy,  sausage gravy, or red eye gravy, grits, oatmeal, fried taters, fresh from the garden sliced tomatoes, and there's even some fried green tomatoes.

Everyone enjoy your day, take care and I'll see you all back in here this evening, for our pizza fest.

Added at 6:54 a.m.:  Getting lighter out, and can see out a little better.  Here on S. 26th St., we are literally covered in thick fog.

It is still 72° and sunny now but it didn't get this warm until about 4 PM today. It was cold this morning and it is forecast to drop to 48° tonight.

No new RR news around this part of the world today.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Cloudy with a temp in the mid 70s, have only had a few sprinkles of rain in our immediate area.  Wish it would rain, maybe get rid of some of this humidity.  About the only place in KY getting any rain, is in the southern part of the state.  Wish it would move on up into our area.

Coffee, juices, hot water for our hot tea drinkers, iced teas, milk, etc. are on the serving station.  Also there, you will find bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and toast.

Sarah made it back safely from Philly.  She had  welcoming committee to see her arrive home:  Trapper and Uba were watching from inside the front door, and Mama Kitty, Daddy Kitty, Little Mookie and Little Mud were all out in the front yard, waiting to greet her.  And I was on the front porch, when the taxi pulled up.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning or whatever/wherever you have to go this morning.  See you all later this afternoon.

Another very slow morning in here.  Hope enough come in to make my fixing dinner worthwhile.  Here is today's Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Pork chop abracadbra w/potatoes, mixed vegetables and tossed salad

2.  Grilled steak, chicken, hot dogs, brats w/potato salad, tossed salad, macaroni & cheese and baked beans

Think the chance of rain has withered away; although it feels a tad bit better outside, with a nice little breeze blowing.  Everyone enjoy your afternoon and take care.

I'm just rushing to get ready to head out to visit my Mother when I noticed that the program on NY's Grand Central Terminal called Nerve Center, that I mentioned 6 weeks or two months ago, is on tonight. It is on at 8 PM EDT and again at 11 PM EDT on Discovery Canada network. I think those of you with satellite TV connections should be able to see it. Sorry about the short notice.

It is 82° and sunny. Nice day to go out and visit family.
