Evening all.....

Up in Dan's neck of the woods today, overnighting at the Planeview truck stop.  CW, that was quite some fog yesterday morning, was on top of Jellico Friday night, was fairly clear on top of the mountain, then I come off the top and was socked in all the way to Corbin, KY, when I stopped to get fuel.

Beautiful here in Oshkosh today, with a high of about 77, forecast is for 50 tonight, so truck is shut off, and it should be nice sleeping weather.  Will probably fire up the truck in a bit, though, just to heat up dinner and charge the batteries......

Supposed to be home Thursday, will talk to y'all then.......

It was a tad foggy around Thendara Saturday morning, but it burned off before we left on our first trip.  Turned out to be a nice day, actually.

Sunday wasn't bad - at least the heavy rain didn't hit until after we'd parked the train for the day.  Was half looking forward to running in the rain, just for some experience on wet rail, but it didn't.

Six tenths of an inch of rain here today - we can still use more.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Randy, that fog didn't burn off here that morning until about 10:45, 11:00.  If that was the so-called "patchy" fog, I'd hate to see non-patchy fog! Smile, Wink & Grin

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready and on the serving station:  bacon, sausage, oatmeal, toast, cinnamon flavored applesauce and scrambled eggs.

Everyone have a good morning and take care.  See you all later.

Sounds like downtown Omaha took quite a hit last nite - lightning, hail and rain doing some damage.  50 miles away (as the crow flies) we got nary a sound.  They need more rain up there - still fighting with the flooding on the Mighty Mo....

Been a strange summer.

Been keeping busy - doing what, I don't know, but definitely busy.  Might settle down a little this week with much warmer temps (maybe 90's)  No wet, either.

Must go check out the hammock and see if it is still comfy.

Mookie, hopefully the hammock was indeed comfy for you this morning.  As far as I know, not even Walt has been in it.

I've got some salads made up for the rest of the day:  Caesar, garden, chicken, turkey salads as well.  Also, there club sandwiches, with your choice of chips, apple slices, blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, papaya and some cantaloupe and watermelon chunks.

We are currently at 80 degrees, supposed to make it up to a high of 83 for today.  Beautiful sunshine out, and a nice breeze.  Think I'll go out and enjoy it.

Sheesh...  Sunny, cool, a little breezy - nice day to dry some clothes on the line.

Working around the house I didn't notice that it got cloudy until I heard thunder.  Managed to get the clothes off the line before they got too wet - now the dryer is getting a workout instead.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Temp about mid 60s this morning, going for a high of about 90 today.  Well, I wish our neighborhood's luck would change:  power went out again last night.  Don't know what caused it this time, haven't heard anything on the news.  2000 without power last night, from just after 10 p.m., to about 11:15 or so last night.   Other than that, not much going on around here.  Kitties are growing, Mud is still very leery of people.  Little Mookie will come close to you, but won't let anyone touch her.  Mama Kitty and Daddy Kitty love to be petted.

Coffee, juices, hot water for tea, chocolate milk, and iced teas, Gatorade, etc., are freshly made and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the serving station.

Probably won't be back in until some mid afternoon.  Planning on going to the library after I get through with Produce and Bread Trucks this morning.  So everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later on.

Been outside stomping my feet.  Guess they felt it on east coast.  Mischief

Too hot to go train watch today - will be a little cooler tomorrow.  Ordered pizza and will watch them tear up the street in front of the house, repairing cracks.  Perfect!  Joe - got Tonka toys to watch and pizza to eat!  Can't beat that with a stick!

Afternoon all.  Been a busy, busy day.  We had 94 people for Produce this morning.  That's the most people we've had in about 3 years.  And the truck was running late, as we had a new driver today.  Just as the Produce truck arrived, the Bread truck arrived from the opposite direction!!  Managed to get the Produce truck unloaded, and when they pulled out, the Bread truck backed in.  Chaos reined supreme this morning.  But we managed to get everyone served, and had a little bit left over, for the folks who would come in until 2 p.m., for their Dare to Care Food Boxes.

I also made it to the library.  First time in months that I have been there.  As a matter of fact, had to get a new library card (with a new #), because mine had expired.  But managed to get myself some books, and now I can begin reading again.

Mookie, I like your suggestion of pizza, so that is what we're having for the rest of this afternoon and tonight:

1.    Anchovie

2.    Canadian bacon

3.    Cheese

4.    Chicgo style

5.    Goetta

6.    Hawaiian

7.    Italian sausage

8.    Pepperoni/mushrooom

9.    Supreme

Sure am glad I keep enough made up and in the freezer, that we can have them anytime!!

Everyone have a good evening, take care, and see you all in the morning.

We are living with lows in the high sixties and highs in the mid-nineties, and little rain in sight (I went out yesterday afternoon, and a few large drops descended upon the car).

Ricki and I had a change of pace last week, going up to Snowbird Monday afternoon and coming back down Friday morning. It was pleasant up there, though I did not get as much walking exercise as I had been accustomed to. Wednesday, three of the ladies Ricki used to work with came up, bringing lunch with them, and we all had a good time.

One of them had baked a rhubarb pie for me (the first I had had in several years), and it was enjoyed even by those who had never had rhubarb pie. I was reminded of my rhubarb pie experience in college. When it was served as dessert after supper, I would go around from table to table after all but the table clearers had left the dining hall, and eat the untouched servings. However, about the middle of my second year, I had to leave early one night when the dessert was rhubarb pie--and it was never served again!Sad Perhaps the dietician saw, that night, how much was left and realized that it was not really liked as much as she thought it had been. On the whole, she did a good job of planning meals, and I don't think that anybody ever had to go hungry.

.....Careful of too much stomping of feet out there on the plains.....Some have even felt it here in Indiana...!

And the rain....The forecasters said rain here by late night.  So I put off mowing until it cooled a bit later.  Now....I see radar has it about 10 miles west of us or less, but the heavier stuff is sliding below us.

Oh well....Guess we'll try to work it in tomorrow.

In all seriousness...This quake has been felt in an extra wide range this afternoon.  Seeing photos of some damage, and I expect we'll see plenty more....Maybe yet this evening.

Ah, Sir C: I was just thinking about looking under the furniture to see if you were in residence.  Wondered if you got rattled Monday nite.

About 5 inches of rain in Omaha area - hail the size of softballs in the Big O and CB and earthquakes in Colorado.  We are really looking pretty good here in our small hole.

Rain in your area -however, it may just flirt with you and move on....maybe here.  We need more rain, you know.  Our trees are falling out of the ground now!

Gotta go back to practicing my tiptoeing....

Whilst in USAF, I spent a year on a coral atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (Kanton Island).

The island had a substantial military presence during WWII, as it served as a stopover for bombers headed for Australia.  Something like 20,000 troops, as I recall from reading I did on it.

Fresh water was at a premium, of course, so things like showers were few and far between.

When the GI's saw rain coming toward the island, they'd head for the lagoon and lather up, planning to rinse off in the rain.

All too often, so it's told, the showers would split and go around the island, leaving the GI's to rinse off with the salt water...  Angry

BNSF has been busy raising, building and plan to be done with work by 9/1.  They promised their fans (ha) they would re-open the south route to St Joe/KC by 9/16.  I am holding them to it.

I haven't been following UP, but haven't heard anything either.  Omaha has had some flooding more in the downtown part of the city.  Don't know if it will further affect Amtrak.  There is so much water between Omaha and Iowa that another 5 inches probably didn't even raise an eyebrow.

The ACE has started shutting down the flow of Gavins Point Dam.  So all is relative.

Even Lincoln has seen a big increase in the water levels in the creeks and at our city dam.  But our flow seems to move pretty quickly and flooding hasn't been a problem.  Wind and soggy tree roots are a bigger problem for us.

We are still holding at 6.49 inches of rain for the year....Normal amount to date is 20.86 inches...a net deficit of 14.37 inches.....

No rain in sight...and its gonna get hotter:   http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Forecast.aspx?location=USTX1200

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Temp this morning is in the mid 70s, supposed to make it back up in the low 90s today.  Supposedly, we can expect a little more rain tonight/tomorrow.  But we did manage to get some rain yesterday evening, somewhere between 7:30 and 8:15.  Giving it that time frame, as I went out to feed the outdoor cats about 7:10, after feeding the 2 indoor cats, and everything was still dry.  Went back outside about 8:20, after eating supper, and that's when I could smell damp soil, and noticed some wet spots on the concrete and the garbage can lid.

Coffee, juices, hot water for hot tea, milk, chocolate milk are all fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast of hotcakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast on the serving station.  If none of that sounds good this morning, there is the usual selection of bagels, bear claws, and fresh fruit.

Think I'm going to take it easy today, and start reading some of my library books I got yesterday.  Mookie, finally got a copy of Debbie Macomber's Susannah's Garden.  Anxious to start reading it.

Everyone enjoy your morning, take care and see you all later.

...We're off to a good start with a nice morning.  Just checked my radar screen on here and I have an opening this morning, so I'm headed for the yard work.

To reach 90 today, so we closed the windows this morning and back to A/C.  Want to get a head start on it.

Morning paper indicates that in several of Muncie's "taller" buildings {just 10 stories}, there downtown and on Ball State Campus, movement was felt {in upper floors}, from the quake.  Upper floors only.  We did not feel it here at home.  We're just 5 mi. from downtown Muncie and about the same from BS University.

Sis in law over in southwestern Pennsylvania did feel some movement.  Enough to make the mini blinds rattle / bang against the window.

Hope it's all over with for now.

CW, it looks like a great supper you have laid out.

I just walked home from downtown and it is a beautiful day out. 81° with a slight breeze and sunny. It almost made up for the fact I was coming home from the dentist! Actually everything turned out fine.

If I understand my geography right it looks like there is a hurricane headed to the same area as the earthquake yesterday. I hope none of our loyal readers and posters are in harms way, or have already been affected.

Nothing new on the local RR news front.

....This turned out to be a pretty hot one.  Thought maybe we've had all of the 90's stuff earlier.  But our instrument topped out late this afternoon at 93.7....and a bit of humidity with it.  None of that rain that has been forecast yet.  Mostly clear skies, and sunshine.

Spent yesterday and today working on a drainage project around the house - hopefully of all the rain that Irene may dump on us most won't end up in my basement.

We'd planned a kayak excursion for a group of our volunteers for Sunday - that may get rained out, too...

Gotta pack up and get ready to head for the railroad tomorrow.  Back in the seat!

Edit - just checked the radar - looks like we may get rocked overnight, if the system that just left Michigan holds together...

I'm getting a complex....

I have been doing some foot stomping - trying to get rain for Texas.  So far I have had floods here, rain in every state east of here and north of Texas, 2 earthquakes, high winds, softball hail, a hurricane and a sore foot.

Moo.....

Good Thursday morning everyone.  It doesn't feel too bad outside here in Louisville this morning:  temps in the low to mid 70s, and our predicted high for today will be about 87 degrees.  If we got any rain overnight, don't see any signs of it in our yard:  dry as a bone!

Coffee, juices, hot water for our hot tea drinkers, Gatorade for Mudchicken and whomever else, soft drinks, iced teas (sweet and unsweetened) are all fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, fresh sliced tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi and papaya, toast.

Really enjoyed watching Hot in Cleveland last night.  Betty White is so funny on there!  And Cedric the Entertainer was really good as the "minister", who is helping Betty's character and her fiance, played by Buck Henry.  Supposedly, the wedding will take place next Wednesday night.  Wonder if it will happen???

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.
