....Nice morning.  Partly sunny.  Moderate temps.  Nice.  Fighting bees.  Seems they like to build nests up at the top corner of our brick sides on the house.  And behind the shutters.  So, this morning, I've declared war on them.  Right now, I'm quite a bit ahead.

Will purchase more Wasp spray today.

Well, I figured it is about time to change some of the menu items, and see if it will reawaken all our appetites.  So, on that note, today we go to the Pa. Dutch for our menu:

1.  Sauerbraten (German Beef Roast)

2.  Beef & Noodle Casserole

Veggies:  German potato salad; 4 bean salad; pickled cucumber salad; pickled beats; mashed taters w/bacon; corn fritters and fried cabbage & noodles

Desserts:

1.  Apple cake w/cream cheese frosting

2.  Shoofly cake

3.  Spritz cookies

4.  Lemon sponge pudding

I hope you all like the menu for today.  And, if you have any favorites from your home area, just let me know, and they will be added also.

CW, sounds like the new German menu is a hit. Count me in!Dinner

77° at last report. We are having what, it weren't politically incorrect, would be called Indian Summer for the next few days. It has to be clear to be able to freeze this time of year, but the clear skies also mean radiant hearing that warm up the days nicely. We are expecting lows in the fifties tonight. This can be an interesting time of year here though, because those same conditions can produce 50° swings in the same day, from the low thirties to the low eighties. Living in a steam heated building can be problematic because the heating system can't adjust quickly enough. It is too warm in the late afternoon, and you have to step smartly when you get up in the morning, because of the chill. The next cold front to pass through town will knock the stuffing out of this problem though.

No new RR news that I can see.

Headed for the railroad for the next couple of days.  If last weekend was any indication, the fall colors may just be spectacular and well on their way to peak.

An email note from the trainmaster advises me that I'll probably not be able to get any seat time on the locomotive on Saturday - but Friday is a real possibility.  Just that much closer to wrapping up my OJT and getting down to the real learning - having to do it all by myself.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Rainy with a temp range of low to mid 50s.  Light rain at the present time, could be heavy at times, before it ends around noontime.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  a small assortment of doughnuts and danish, along with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns and your choice of toast, french toast or buttermilk biscuits & gravy.

I'm glad you all liked our menu yesterday.  Waiting to hear more menu suggestions from you all; for example, do you want to continue with our Friday Fish menu, or switch to something else entirely?

We had movie night here at home last night:  watched The Black Knight.  It was a fairly good movie, although it kind of seemed to drag a couple of times to me.  Made it seem like a very, very long 2.88 hours (which is the calculation of 173 minutes divided by 60 minutes).  If Kevin Costner had been in that movie, I'd have sworn, by the length of the film, that I was watching Dances with Wolves

Hope you all enjoy your first full day of the Autumn season, take care and I'll see you all later.

Peace be with you! 73 and misting rain in Carolina at present. Not sure of the expected high, but it made it up to 90 yestiddy. Things drag along here with very little new to report except that the trouble with my right hand is getting worse and typing is a real chore nowadays.

I have been spending my time watching A Touch of Frost online. Those English detective movies can be riveting and are so well done that it puts domestic made rubbish to shame. Anyway, it it a delghtful way to kill a couple of hours.

Nuff for now. Everyone take care and stay safe.

....57 degrees earlier.  A cloudy, overcast morning with light rain potential.  Not raining now. Believe we did get a bit overnight but I haven't checked the rain gauge yet.

To stop any raining this afternoon and just cloudy.

Stopped in at Steak n Shake yesterday and had a bit of lunch.  Noted  something on the menu that looks new to me...."Buttery Steak Burger"......Anyone here tried them yet.

Has other stuff on it that I will have to omit, but years ago, while traveling in Mi. on my job....I stopped at a place and had a hamburg with butter on it.....More than just a little, and it was really good.

Curious to try it again.

Morning all! (Justin here if you don't remember!)

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to get in here. I've been keeping up on my schoolwork and whatnot... I assure you I haven’t forgotten about you all though!

Cool temps this morning on the western side of Indiana with a little bit of fog. looks like we will have a high of around 52* today.

Keep my school in your prayers as we take on our opponents tonight in our homecoming game! GO MUSTANGS!!!

Well I hope everyone has a grand day and I'll talk to you later!

-Justin

Did something earlier, that I have not done in 20+ something years:  watched All My Children.final episode.  Way back in 1970, I watched the first episode with my Mama, so I decided I would watch the last episode.  Did see a couple of old faces that looked familiar.

Well, our Friday Fish Fry is now on the warmer/serving station.  All of the fish menu and all of the sides and dessert menus are also ready and keeping warm.

Not sure what our current temp is, but it is still a bit cool and breezy, but the sun is shining.  Everyone have a very good afternoon, and I'll try to be back in later on.  Take care and enjoy the afternoon.

.....Well, our day turned out to be seasonally very nice.  Even got another mowing in.  Upon looking at our rain gauge from overnight, I was surprised to see .7" had fallen.

At the same time {I was mowing}, Jean was pulling out almost all the flowers that bloomed very nice this Summer.   And more bees....found a place under a sidewalk they were going down in....It got the Wasp spray a plenty.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Starting at our morning with a temp of 55 degrees and very light rain/drizzle falling.  Supposed to get up to about 71 degrees today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, syrup, scrambled eggs or fried eggs, fried green tomatoes, grits, toast, buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and your choice of hash browns or fried sliced taters.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and yes, Joe, there will be plenty of pizza tonight.

Just pawing thru the breakfast buffet and found a blueberry muffin somone missed.  It went to a good cause!  Coffee

Out watching some BNSF stock go up.  Saw a Boeing train headed west this am.  Friend at trackside said he saw one earlier this week with 4 bodies on it.  This was just a single today.  But he said he counted about 26 trains in and out of the yard on Thurs past.  I knew it was noisy!

Watched some Tonka Toys.  They seem to do a lot of rearranging, but very little carting off of items.  Just keep stacking things up and moving ballast from over there to over here.  Seems like a lot of busy work, but I am sure the railroad knows exactly what is going on and that they really are working.  Question

Mookie, sounds like you've had a nice day trackside.  About the only thing I've done today around the house is dishes.  That has been about it, except for watching Little Mook and Little Mud playing out in the front yard, and on the front porch.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest  menu for tonight:

1.    Anchovie

2.     Canadian bacon

3.     Cheese

4.     Chicago style

5.     Goetta

6.     Ham & green pepper

7.     Hawaiian

8.     Italian sausage

9.    Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

Desserts for tonight:

1.   Peach or apple cobbler w/ice cream

2.   Chocolate cake w/chocolate icing

3.   Yellow cake w/caramel icing

Hope you all have had a good day, and will have a good evening.  Enjoy your supper, and I'll see you all later.

Almost seasonal temps today....Just a little below norm.

But consider it a nice day.

Grass growing rapidly again.

Almost got really stuck in Football traffic in Muncie today.  Not knowing there was a game scheduled a couple of hours later...we were going up thru town {north}, on Wheeling and all of a sudden I found we were in gridlock....So managed to get turned on a side street and wound around and got around all the traffic that was pouring into town....and got to our destination...Meijers.

Then heard on the truck radio, this and that street was clogged and they started stopping traffic from entering north on Wheeling...What a mess.  I don't follow football, so I don't pay any attention when Ball State has an important game....or any game.  But we were lucky and worked outself out of the mess.

Miserable start to the day - misty, rainy, just not good weather in which to view the (magnificent, so far) fall colors in the Adirondacks.  The occasional sun they suggested we might see was mostly that, a suggestion.

Still, we had reasonable crowds on the trains, and an international bunch, too, including a couple from Australia and a very nice lady from Germany who was there with a group touring across the country.

Fire department stuff tomorrow, so not on the railroad.

CW, I see it is pizza night again. I think I will have a Canadian Bacon pizza tonight with some Peach Cobbler for dessert.

Nice day here today. We finally got our second 30°C day for 2011. That is 86°F. And our lows are staying in the fifties. It is still 72° now.

Had a little trouble last night around 3 AM, a couple of blocks north of my place. Right were I have to go to get to the local Safeway grocery store. It seems some young fellows were out for some drinks and got into an argument. Then guns were pulled, and shots were fired. I live in what is normally considered to be a "trendy" neighbourhood, which I don't mind because these trendy types tend to look after their properties pretty well. A bullet flew through the window of an Organic food store, next to an Arts & Crafts store. You can just picture what the employees of these places look like. If it wasn't so serious, it was kind of cute when one of them said he had never seen a bullet hole in his store before. And I didn't hear a darn thing.

No new RR news.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  A little bit rainy with a temp in the mid 60s this morning, here in Louisville.  May have on/off periods of light rain during the day, then tonight, into Monday morning, chances for some heavier rain showers.  High today in the low 70s.

Joe, thanks for coming in early and fixing breakfast.  Sure looks good this morning.  Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, or whatever/wherever you need to do.

Hmm, Cannonball:  now that you mention it, I don't think I've even seen anything from Adrian on Facebook lately.  Gonna have to go back through, and see if I can find anything from him.

Taking our Sunday Dinner menu from the Hagar the Horrible cartoon today:

Roast beef, mashed taters, carrots, peas and biscuits, along with your choice of slaw or garden salad, and for dessert:  peach cobbler, chocolate cake and blackberry pie.

Have no idea what our current temp is, but I am chilled to the bone!!  The only thing warm is my fingers:  which is very  odd.  Even have on socks, and my feet are still cold; guess that's why I'm so cold all over.

Hope you all are faring better, and enjoying your Sunday afternoon.  Take care.
