Good Thursday morning everyone.  Yes, mudchicken, he finally emailed them to me (he said he thought he had sent them to me).

51 degrees, and the rain has now left our area, heading east, I believe.  Our high today is to be only 65 degrees.  But by the weekend, beginning of next week, we'll be back in the 80s for highs.

Well, this afternoon is when I go to the orthopedic surgeon.  Appointment is scheduled for 2:15.

Coffee is ready, along with juices, hot chocolate, and the water is boiling hot for hot tea drinkers.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, tater tots or regular fried taters, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Heard on the news this morning, that if anyone gets any cantaloup from a farm out in Colorado, not to eat them:  they've been contaminated by something that they're saying is something very rare.  Never heard a name for this rare something or other.  Sure does make you wonder what the heck is going on.

Guess that is about it for now.  Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all, probably this evening.

CW - it's Listeria and it is not a nice thing.

With all the food problems, just be sure to wash your hands a lot!  And when fixing food, make sure you wash all veggies thoroughly.  I even wash the cantaloupe before I cut it open.  I read that problems can arise when you have a dirty outer surface and cut it right onto the cantaloupe.

Life used to be a lot simpler when I could pull up a carrot out of my Dad's garden, wipe it off on my shirt and eat it.

Gee, what a coincidence; I also have surgery today (although mine is for a hernia).

Dr. examined my knee, said it felt like it was loose; ordered x-rays, they showed nothing broken.  So I am o.k.  But still got the order to not fall.

Larry, I agree with you:  a certain lady in Lincoln, NE would make a very good president for this country of ours.

Joe, and everyone else, here is our supper menu for tonight:

Pork chop abracadbra w/mashed taters and gravy.  (Put it on in the Crock Pots before I left to go to the doctor.

Definitely have the ac units off.  And they'll be staying off until sometime next week.  At least for the next few nights, it looks like our temps  will be getting down into the 40s.

Everyone take care, have a good evening, and see you all tomorrow.

I see our Presidential Campaign here is going well.

It is 72° and overcast here today. It was sunnier earlier. Actually though, this is still the warmest day we have had in the last several days. Our highs recently have barely been over 60°. Except for last night, our lows recently have been in the low forties, or high thirties. Most of the Province has already experienced their first frost. Two nights ago, Fort McMurray dropped down into the low twenties.

No new local RR news here, but I see CP is going to have its' 2011 Spike Driving championship in Minneapolis this Sunday. It will be the first time the championship event has been held in the US. There are 16 "Spike Offs" across the CP system, for both men and women employees in all departments, except MOW. Men drive in three spikes, and women two, using an 11½ lb. maul, in the shortest amount of time. Previous champions have driven in a single spike as quickly as 11 seconds. They had a picture of the winners on the cover of the CP staff magazine a couple of years ago. The lady winner seemed to be pretty sturdily built. Who knows, an event like this might replace going to the gym.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Fair skies here in Louisville this morning, with a temp of 52 degrees.  Supposed to make it up to about 70 degrees this afternoon.

Coffee, juices and other hot beverages, like hot water for tea and hot chocolate are ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station station this morning:  sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, papaya, kiwi, orange wedges, toast and fried taters.

The doc did give me a bit of good news yesterday:  I now do not have to wear the knee brace on my left knee every day.  Just whenever that knee is swollen a bit.  So that is very good news.  Monday afternoon, I go back to the Center for Orthotics and Prosthetics to get the ankle/arch support brace adjusted, oiled, and a screw replaced that has gone missing.  Have no idea when I lost it, but did somewhere, somehow.

Everyone have a very good morning, and I'll see you all later, hopefully.  Going to try calling Kodak later this morning, and see about getting this printer working again.

Whilst roaming around western Nebrasky yesterday, the truck thermometer got as low as 36 degrees and got no higher than 42. Had to go back to Colorado to warm up and dry out.`

(the Amtrak trainset involved in the August 24 derailment at Benkelman is still out there, they yanked the wheels and traction motors off the locomotives yesterday and replaced them with regular ungeared wheelsets...they were still digging dirt out of 174's innards....Hulcher made mud soup out of the local roads)

Whew!  I have spent the last 1 and 1/2 hours talking with Kodak's customer service.  They say that the USB cable is defective, which is why the printer is not connecting to the computer.  So, they are sending us, by USPS Next Day Delivery, a new USB cable.  Said they assure us it will arrive at our house Monday, 9/19/11.  Do I have everyone's permission to scream bloody murder?!?!?! (The other 2 people living in this household more than likely want to join me!)

Mudchicken, want to send some of Colorado's warmth our way?

Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the warmer/serving station, along with all the side dishes.  And the regular desserts are also available.

Enjoy your afternoon, and see you all later.

Hmmm - Joe has his days and nights mixed up.  Must be because he is off work.

Sir Mud - we got a lot of rain overnite.  Gentle, but continuous.  It was about 44 here and if that would have been snow, we wouldn't have been able to see out the 2nd story windows this morning.  (sorry Murray)

Mud - Watch your e-mail.  Have some consternations.  (taking pills for them)

CW - Driver yells at tv all the time, so you have permission to scream.  However must tell you that it only hurts everyone's ears and no one having to do with the problem is listening.  Frustrating, isn't it.

I am wrapped in a blanket with warm clothes on and a knit cap.  My hands are like ice cubes, but not going to turn the heat on since it will be 78 on Sun.  But put warm bedding on the bed last nite - during the nite!  In the dark!

Mudchicken, want to send some of Colorado's warmth our way?

Trade you for some water next summer? (walked around row after row of shattered, heat-stressed corn yesterday)

The cantaloupe listeria scare has put the Lower Arkansas Valley (Kansas State Line / Holly to Pueblo) in a tailspin. Rocky Ford (10 miles west of La Junta in SE Colorado) took it hard. Jensen Farm, near Holly, was identified as testing listeria positive. I feel for the Hanagans, Hirikatas, Fujimotos, Mestas, Muths and all the other family truck farmers taking a hit.

(First the sugar beet industry tanks, then Aurora steals irrigation water, the canning plants close/ downsize and now this, ugh! George Washington Swink just rolled over in his grave....)

Good Saturday morning everyone.  We're starting out with a cool 52 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Supposed to get to 75 degrees today.  Mudchiciken, we're not supposed to see any rain until some time Monday, I believe.  Then, it'll be raining thru Wednesday.

Mookie, I always have to listen to everybody else (mostly neighbors going by the house) yelling, so I figured, why not join everyone else in the neighborhood and yell my head off.Smile, Wink & Grin

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.  Our Saturday brunch is also ready, and on the warmer/serving station.

Think I'm going to start back doing my back exercises sometime today.  Yeah, I've been very lax for the last month, month and a half, and haven't done them at all.  Bad Paula Bad Paula Bad Paula

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to work, out railfanning, taking advantage of all the activities going on everywhere, and I'll see you all this evening for our pizza fest.

....Our Saturday is a nice one.  When I first looked, earlier this morning, our instrument indicated 57 degrees and we'll get to roughly 70 today.  Sun is shining brightly.

Did our breakfast thing this morning at Bruner's, and did get to see one westbound CSX train passing by.

Filled car with gas....$3.76 / gal....{but that's premium}....And it's generally higher here than that.

Now....ready to go out and touch up some shrubs {with trimming}, for one last time this season.

It is 55 here, very high humidity, foggy and just a miserable day!  Huskers are beating Wash Huskies, but that is the only bright spot.  Guess they don't mind playing inside a refrigerator.

Q - I think that is about the price we are paying for regular (high state tax).

CW - I listen to dogs bark all day.  I have called on one house and the dog is blessedly silent now except for an occasional apology woof.  Hate to do it, but the sweet lab behind us is next.  They leave her in the yard all day and only take her in about 10 pm.  I yell at her and she quits for a few min, but she is lonesome and just wants family.  They ignore her.  So I will have Animal Control goout and see if we can't work out something so she has someone to talk to other than the fence.

Tree will probably not be very happy with me, but went out today and bought a space heater.  I was afraid one of my fingers was going to crack and break from the cold.  It is sitting here right beside me and I only run it a short time, then let it rest.  This house is cold when the wind blows and right now the wind is SE and right in this corner.  With 90% humidity - it is miserable, still.  The heater is really helping warm out the surrounding area.

I know they can be very dangerous, but will unplug and never leave alone to bark.  Promise!

....Jen, that price was probably near the lowest it's been here for a while, hence used that vehicle this morning {to fill it}, on our breakfast run and one other stop.

Earlier, on Pennsylvania run a month or so ago, we paid within pennies of $4 / gal.

Beautiful day here.  Sunny and clear blue sky.  Touched up a couple shrubs {trimming}, and that should be it for the season....They are all looking right for the Winter season now.

Low 70's by this afternoon.

Sat out on patio {as in my Avatar}, and had some lunch...and watched the golfers go by....and it really was getting pretty warm.  Sun still has power.

Thought I would drop in for a late night pepperoni pizza. I was out visiting, and it is only 43° now. It will drop another four or five degrees before morning. And tomorrow's high is expected to be 66°. About what we have been seeing the last few days.

Over in the Lounge I posted a link to a video taken earlier this week SE of Irricana, our last station. I thought you folks might be interested in seeing what the countryside looks like. You could then imagine what it would be like in the middle of the night at forty below on the Canadian prairie. You would be running with the wind in the first part of the video, and against it in the second. Crews have been doing that for a 125 years now.

I will be off to visit my mother tomorrow.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Very nice and pleasant this morning, with a temp of 61 degrees here in Louisville.  Could possibly see some rain rolling in from the Arkansas/Missouri area, probably around 5 p.m. Should see some sun, but it is supposed to be mostly cloudy today.

Coffee is brewed, fresh juices made and chilled, have hot water for hot tea, and on the warmer/serving station this morning:  blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes w/your choice of blueberry syrup or maple syrup and bacon & sausage links/patties and scrambled eggs.

Everyone have a beautiful morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, or any other activity you have this morning.   See you all later.

Cannonball and Quentin, that sounds about right, doesn't it?

Been a gloomy day around here in Louisville.  Think I've seen sunshine for a total of about a half hour.

Joe, sorry to hear about your organist.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Roast, taters and carrots w/green beans, corn and your choice of cole slaw or garden salad;

2.  Fried chicken w/mashed taters, green beans, corn, choice of cole slaw or garden salad, and your choice of baked cornbread or buttermilk biscuits and milk gravy.

Hope everyone has had a good afternoon.  Have a good evening, enjoy your dinner, take care and see you all later.

Good Monday morning everyone.  So far, looks like you all are sleeping in this morning?

We are getting a good soaking rain at the present time, with a temp of 67 degrees.  The temp's not going to climb very much today, as our projected high should only be 70, maybe 71 degrees.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Everyone have a good morning, keep dry, if you can, if you're in the 'rain belt' today and take care.  I'll leave leftovers from our Sunday Dinner menu for you all's lunch later.  Will be going to get my ankle/arch support brace adjusted, etc, so I'll see you all late afternoon.

Ms Mook - as long as you treat that little heater appropriately, you won't have any problems with it.  I have one I use for "spot heat" in the print shop in the winter, as running the furnace up enough to make the ink apply properly would leave the rest of the house at about 85...

It came in handy at Deshler this summer, too, as temps one morning dipped down below comfortable sleeping and into really bundling up one night.

I'll either be using it or a little propane heater at the "Punkin Patch" in October (depending on whether we fire the generator up or not).  Had to deal with snow one morning last year and it sure felt good inside my little shelter with some warmth.

Friday was chilly up in the Adirondacks, and wouldn't you know it, there was a problem with the HEP generator on the train, so the first passengers of the day had to ride in cold cars.  They survived.  Weather got gradually better through the weekend, and by Sunday afternoon it was actually nice.

The fall colors are really coming on quickly up there - it seemed like every trip was a little more colorful.  They'll be peak really soon.

Gotta go get a flat fixed.  The spare is on the truck and the flat is in the back.  You'd think they'd paint the spare the same color as the other rims, but noooo - it's gotta stick out like a sore thumb...
