Thanks for the pizza, CW.
Spent a fair portion of the day today standing by at a fire station in another part of the county while that department celebrated the life of a past chief. A somber event, to be sure, but the brotherhood makes it worthwhile.
That department covers some pretty busy territory, but we only covered one medical call for them.

As I understand it, it happened in Buffalo with the great Blizzard of '77. The problem was that there was a cold snap down south, too, and the snow never melted... Oops!
The city near here routinely dumps (or did - not sure if that's still the case) snow into the river that runs through it. Most villages usually have some sort of open area they can haul the snow to. Out in the country it just gets pushed aside or piled. If it gets too bad alongside a road, they'll call out the snowblower to move it further off the road.
The Redfield area, on the west flank of Tug Hill, got 12 feet over about 7 days a few years ago. It was a pain keeping up with it during the storm, but it didn't cripple the area.
We're used to it. As long as the plow operators can see where they are going, and are sufficiently rested, they plow.

Well, good Saturday morning all. It looks like we have about an inch of snow on the ground (grass and sidewalks). We're under a Winter Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. this morning. Maybe we'll see some sunshine later today. But it won't be warm enough to melt this little bit of snow, as we probably won't make it too far above our current temp, which is 19, 20 degrees. When I awoke at 6:14, our temp had dropped from 23 degrees to 21 degrees F.
Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Usual Saturday Brunch selections are on the serving station.
Everyone have a good day, be careful out there, whatever and wherever you have to go today, and see you all later on this evening for our pizza fest.

Dan, at least you posted, and let me know you'd be lurking around with a hammer. What, pray tell, are you going to do with said hammer?!
Not much snow on the ground around here. Snow is so light, you can't really see it coming down. But cold and windy outside. I'm definitely not keeping entry door open, so that I can look outside, as I'm sitting here at the computer.
Everyone have a good afternoon, take care, and see you all in a bit.
Cannonball........Have complete understanding what you are talking about. Before coming to Indiana, from Pennsylvania, was involved in automotive brake testing there in our mountain type terrain.
And that led my exit to BWA and the engineering dept...Producing prototype units and testing thereof. Did that in Pa. for 5 years, and then was moved to the Lab here in Muncie at that plant.
I can go back one step further....Back before the brand new '49 model cars from Ford motor Co....All new Fords....and all new Mercurys were tested in that area of Pennsylvania which we're talking about 1947/ 48....And some of those bodies were very different than the final production vehicles were. Their testing headquarters was located in Jennerstown and later they did a lot of truck testing in the same area as well. Our BWA test facitility was located there too. In fact, brake testing was done {by a half dozen co's.}, in that area from before WWII.....Roughly from Jennerstown, east to Bedford Co. which included up and down several mountain ranges of the Alleghenies in the area.

Here in Az. , south of Chandler is the GM proving ground . There the ( engineers ) cut off parts of a car body and glue and sheet metal screw on to a new designof a chassis. That disgiuses the new features of a model .The dash board is loaded with instrumentation of various kinds . Then a manufactures tag ( mt-xxxx) is put on and hits the roads in the state for testing , usually in a 2 car parade. The cars look like an escapee from a demolition derby . That is todays way of hiding the new models. Quentin ; I guess you have seen more than a few of these in your time at GM
Moved a couple of inches of the white stuff off the driveway before I checked the mail this morning. Looks like it's time for a return to the shovel. Or I could just wait and fire up the snowblower.
The exercise will do me good.
Then again, we are under a winter storm advisory.
Wheeee!
Earlier this morning we had 19 degrees, and now it's 22 plus.
We might see some flurries today and tomorrow. Did get 1" of the stuff yesterday, and our morning paper indicated there were 75 wrecks in the area.
Stayed home out of the little bit of snow and it's potential on the streets.
Headed for the church to replentish the envelopes in the pews this morning....Then maybe lunch someplace.
cherokee woman The 1 to 3 inches of snow they were calling for us to have by today: now is a dusting to 1/2 inch by tonight.

Good Friday morning everyone. Cloudy and 31 degrees here in Louisville this morning. The 1 to 3 inches of snow they were calling for us to have by today: now is a dusting to 1/2 inch by tonight. Supposedly the snow is west of I-65, headed this way, but not here yet.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Regular breakfast menu items on the serving station.
Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later.
......I don't know where the snow came from....Haven't checked to see on any weather map, but I had heard no talk of snow last evening. But late this morning, we started to see very light fine particles of snow.
Now I'd say we've had perhaps a bit over a half inch of the stuff. Not extremely cold....
So Jean and I have comfortably stayed home today. Did some insurance paper work this morning, and hung a new piece of art {in picture form}, for her and just in the last hour set down here at the computer. Sent some pic's. to sis in law over in Pennsylvania.
Did watch a bit of the action {live, in the House of Rep.} a bit earlier this afternoon.
Noted we've gained 16 min. of daylight in the evening....So we're really headed the right direction. Actually cracked open my new Trains mag. today for the first time....That's probably a record. But other mag's. come too, and other things were being done. This months Trains seems to be an interesting issue.
johnny glad things can get settled at home for you and ricki.we still have some snow showers but not much to clear off yet.Cw thanks for supper.Tonight is friday.Have a busy weekend ahead.
Mookie I am bored today. Weekend will be cloudy and cold. Blah!

Weather wise, we are suffering the aftermath of our snowfall last week: low temperature and nasty air (it's nice to see the mountains to the east and west of us, but they, along with those to the north and south, do an excellent job of trapping whatever gets into the air until another low pressure cell moves in (bringing more snow) and lets the miasma rise out).
Johnny
I am bored today. Yesterday was "grocery" day, but afternoon was spent trackside. It was around 40, sunny and sitting facing south, it was warm and.....quiet. Actually, our parking spot is one of the quieter ones in town. Only noise mostly is train whistles and then fairly quiet when they go by. Not a lot of traffic and no one ever bothers us.
They are doing fiber optics right in front of us, so I get the Tonka Toys and trains at the same time. A fun afternoon! Ate lunch across the street from a new high rise being built. More Tonka Toys as they are drilling holes and putting concrete in them for footings. Reminded me of sitting in San Diego at Seaport Village, many years ago, watching a hotel being built. We watched them put in windows about 10 stories up. Fascinating.
Weekend will be cloudy and cold. Blah!
Good Thursday morning, everyone. And Joe, thanks for taking care of putting the coffee on, and taking care of everything this morning. Went to sleep about 10:30 last night, and didn't take up until about 8:04 this morning. Haven't slept that long in a long time. Guess I needed it, right?
It's going to be another busy day around here. Today, I have to go back to the Pharmacy and get my other prescription, turn the other lady's prescript back in, and get some frozen veggies for us. Then come home and do laundry.
Everyone have a good day, take care, and see you all later on for our Thursday Mexican Fiesta.
Brrrrrrrrrr!
just a dusting of snow here in nw ohio.matt is on time for the bus.Going to grab some breakfast and some juice.going to do errands after a nap.Tonight is Friday.
As I recall, that was once quite the game between the car mags and the car companies. The car mags did everything short of breaking in to the companies to get pictures of next year's models. I remember seeing pictures of cars with covering on them so you couldn't see any details.
There was a spot (and still is) outside GM's Proving Grounds where you could see over the fence onto one of the tracks. I'm sure it was a popular spot for the photogs.
Them was the days when you could not only tell which manufacturer made a vehicle, but the model and the year.
Murray Modelcar: switch7frg: I think all these ( gems ) were brought to town by a train too. Cannonball Yes, for some decades now, but doubtful if the ones back in '41 were. A mental picture still sticks in my mind {from a young age}, of seeing a {new}, 1938 Oldsmobile pulling another {new}, one....on the street in our little home town {main street was rt. 30}, parked outside a restaurant...They obvously were on their way thru to some dealership. I remember how the showrooms downtown (I grew up in Elizabeth, NJ) used to paper over the showroom windows in late September/early October in anticipation of the new model year....That was big doings! Remember how folks used ot have loyalty to once brand of car...and to the same dealer? And they usually traded with the same salesman! Much more cilvilized way to buy a car...not like it is now.

Murray:
You hit upon something that I believe has been lost in the Auto sales excitement. And probably has cost sales in the industry. The routine of keeping new model vehicles hidden / secrete and at an expected time of the year....September / October. That's when people expected new models to be released and as you mentioned, made a big push of excitement to unvail them on a certain new model show date...A large build up with advertisements that brought people into the sales room.
Especially, for "car guys", such as myself. That was a big day to go see the grand opening for the new models. Now....We have none of that excitement currently....Even fellows as myself, pay little attention because models are put on the market without much attention at all....at any time of the year.
cw thanks for supper tonight.e494 had a problem with its air hoses in sherwood ohio.a signal maintainer helped the conductor find the leak and took him back up to the cab.time to go back to work.
What a day this has been: had to stand in line at the Pharmacy for a long time, then, when I get home, and go through my prescriptions, noticed they'd given me one prescription belonging to another lady. Called the Pharmacy, and told them I'd be in tomorrow, with that prescription, and the one or two of mine that they didn't give me.(grrrrrrr)
On a happier note, I got an email from Tom awhile ago. He is home, with stube still in and pretty sore and grumpy. He said he just feels plain ole lousy. His tubes come out Friday, but his wife has surgery sometime next week.
Supper tonight: Sloppy Joes w/your choice of fried taters, french fries or tater chips, along with salad . Cobblers w/ice cream and yellow cake w/chocolate icing for dessert.
