Johnny - I must have gotten the right department - I got a muffled laugh back and then my landlord suddenly appeared with a snowblower.  This doesn't bode well.

We had a Henry J.  I don't remember it, but I've seen pictures...

Joe - reportedly Buffalo tried loading snow in coal hoppers after the Blizzard of '77.  They were headed south and the thought was, of course, that the snow would have melted by the time they got where they were going.

Oops.  Cold snap.  The snow arrived "down south" intact....

Had a nice time at the local model railroad club's open house today.  Gave out plenty of pins and some discount certificates for the railroad.

Going to Syracuse for a similar event tomorrow.

And I remember the Henry J autos.....Do you remember Sears sold that same car as an "Allstate"...

Quentin...Oh yes...I've seen the Allstate models as well.  They added a few more options to thse cars than the earliest base Henry J's.

In addition to my Grandpa's Henry J, my Grandma drove a 1949 Hudson Super Six 2-door...2-tone blue...beautiful car!

Our neighbor's (they had an Esso gas station in Elizabeth, NJ), they had a 1955 Oldsmobile 88 2-door, white and blue.  And for the gas station truck, they had a 1948 Ford V-8 that was originally used as a telephone repair truck for New Jersey Bell.

Well, I finally decided to 'make an appearance' here today.  Now, since I am here, don't you all decide to go away again!

Here's tonight's menu of pizzas:

1.  Anchovie

2.  Canadian bacon

3.  Cheese

4.  Chicago style

5.  Goetta

6.  Hawaiian

7.  Italian sausage

8.  Pepperoni/mushroom

9.  Supreme

Desserts tonight:

1.  Chocolate cake

2.  Peach cobbler

3.  Yellow cake w/caramel icing

4.  Strawberry cheesecake

Our high was supposed to be in the low 50s today; but, Walt and I don't recall ever seeing it get out of the (low) to mid 40s.  Hope you all have a very good evening, and take care.

Murray:

I happen to have {within reaching distance}, a die cast model of a 1951 Hudson Hornet coupe, with Twin H Power.....The famous 308 c i flat head....{Step Down Design}, as they called it because  the frame was outside at the inner body edge, and the floor was dipped down from there.  My model here is dark green.....Even has the twin carbs on it under the hood.   This is the famous Hudson that did so well then in early Nascar...."The Fabulous Hudson Hornet", as it was called....

My family just happened to have an Esso Station in Pa. too. The station truck you mentioned I believe {possibly}, would be the beginning of the Ford  "F" series.....Probably an F1 of 1948.

..........Overcast skies.....mid 40's and moving up.  We're melting snow today.  Possible straight line winds tonight...50 plus mph  was mentioned.  Some flooding possible as rain tonight too.

But the key words are...."melting snow"..!

It looks like we've been kind of slow in here this morning.  Guess with it warming up, people are out and about?

Our current temp here in Louisville is 50 degrees, with cloudy skies.  Quentin, if I heard a wind speed for later this afternoon, this morning, I don't remember it (guess I was still half asleep).

For our Sunday Dinner, this afternoon and evening:

1.  Lasagna w/garden salad and Italian bread or garlic bread, whichever you prefer.

2.  Grilled chicken breasts w/broccoli and rice, garden salad and crescent rolls.

3.  Rib eye steaks, broiled or grilled, w/broccoli & rice, garden salad and crescent rolls.

Desserts:  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, apple and peach pies w/ice cream.

Hope everyone has a very good afternoon, take care, and see you all later.

Cannonball............That I don't know for sure.....If I had to make a guess, I'd say it did.  A close friend's dad had just purchased a brand new 1948 Ford dump truck....The first of that series...F8....A pretty good size truck for the day.

Item:  Now a really strange fact:  Mike's dad had a 1948 Tucker {car}, on order.....and we all know how that situation went....The company sold accessories  as a desperate attempt to raise money as they were still struggling to produce that car....{I refer to Preston Tucker}.  So...eventually Mikes dad actually got the radio.....It had T-U-C-K-E-R labled right on the push buttons....and he had that radio installed in that F8 dump truck...!  Perhaps the only F8 dump truck in 1948 with a genuine TUCKER radio in it....!

24°F and calm here today. Boy, we had some cold temperatures this past week. I was out with a group yesterday for lunch and everyone agreed last Thursday morning was a very bad time to be outside. It started warming up on Friday.

All this talk of garage trucks and and Hudson's is kind of interesting.

The friend I mentioned who had passed away a couple of weeks ago, their family owned the Pontiac, Buick, GMC dealership in Irricana. They also had the Purity 99 brand gas station franchise. Due to a total lack of zoning regulations, they also lived in the dealership/gas station! That should be a story for another day. So there was my brother and I in the station, two kids in the dealership/gas station, one kid our age who lived in the back of the hotel, and one kid who lived behind the grocery store, all on main street!

Now back to the story. The gas station tow truck was a 1940 Chevrolet 2 ton truck with a big towing boom on the back. It was used until 1970 or so.

One of our babysitters' family once owned the International Harvester Truck and Machinery dealership, further up main street, and their car was a Hudson, from the last year of production as a standalone company. 1954 or '55? The dealership had closed just before we moved there, due to the father's health issues.

In our own extended family, my Dad had a cousin who drove International Trucks, and Nash, later American Motor's cars right up to the end of both company's production! He had a IHC Travelall, and it really got his goat when he had to buy a Suburban to pull his trailer to Arizona each winter after he had retired. He had been a Versatile Farm Machinery dealer.

The 2011 Canadian Womens Curling Championship final game starts in about 30 minutes. GO Saskatchewan!!!

Whew!  What a morning!!  Been awake since before 4:30:  we were under a tornado warningThe warning is now over with, but we are under a tornado watch until 10:00 a.m.  Our schools are on a 2 hour delay, and some of the child care centers have no child transport this morning.  They had reports, over in an Indiana county, of a roof flying off a house, locally, flying trash cans, and overturned newspaper boxes.  I looked out the front door, and our garbage can is still upright, hasn't moved any, and our recycling bins remained stationary out at the curb, waiting for pickup. At one point, they showed the wind speed on screen:  62.3 mph.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the serving station.

Everyone have a good morning, if you're in the bad/severe weather zone(s), take care, see you all later.

Rain all morning, then some snow.  Now just cloudy but still above freezing.  Rain guage says .83", but no reports or warnings of flooding so far.

Two different train shows over the weekend.  Got lots of pins out!  Hopefully we'll get plenty of riders, too.  A lot of us are taking a very proactive stance on marketing this year, something that's been let slide, unfortunately.

So aside from a trip to town this morning and some work with some rookie firefighters tonight, today is a down day.

With the way the wind was blowing this morning, our rain gauge showed about an inch or less when he checked it a little earlier.  We're still getting a drizzle to light rain, and the current temp is 44 degrees.  I did hear on our noon news, that our temp got up to  71, 72 degrees, just after midnight.

For the rest of the day, I've fixed some beef stew w/baked cornbread and fixed fresh garden salad.  Figured that just might hit the spot.

Hey, Brian, congrats on getting a photo in the lineup for the trainsmag photo "contest".  Really nice looking photo.  Got my vote.

Whew! Am I ever glad there are no tornado's here. But it is snowing. At a fair rate, too. -9°F with a N 14 mph wind, giving us a windchill of -31°F We haven't had this much steady winter like weather here, since the end of November, in many years. Often in recent years we could have a full melt before the next snow, but there are many shady spots this year that still have all the snow they started with.

I don't see any RR related news caused by the weather today, but there have been a number of recreational types who have been killed by avalanches recently. Those avalanches at some point often end up on the tracks, so I think it will still be a matter of when not if.

Well, that is all I've got for now.

Wonder if Randy has come to yet.  He looked awfully tired...

Ms Mook - Couldn't sleep (2AM) so started poking around the Netherlands rail cam.  Found the "Froona Cam" (numbers 6 and 9).  Put N 51.52611 E 5.70418 into your favorite map program.  It's a rather tall communications tower near de Mortel.  You'll also see that funny shaped waterway to the right of the tower.

That doesn't appear to be the same nestbox as #3, though.

The canal shot (with the stick across it) also appears to be nearby, as determined by some background noise heard on several of the de Mortel tower shots.

Saw the birds in cam #3 several times.  One appeared to be digging in the corner nearest the opening on the far side of the box.  The other hid on the other end of the box when it was there.

Might try the pillow again in a bit.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Larry, thanks for posting the shots from the Netherlands.  Enjoyed looking at them.   33 degrees here this morning, supposed to get up to about 54 today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready and on the serving station.

Well, so far, 4 tornadoes have been confirmed in the Louisville area from yesterday morning.  Fortunately, I have not heard of any fatalaties associated with the storms yesterday morning.  A few minor injuries, though.  I don't think anyone close to our neighborhood had any damage.  I may hear something when I go over to Produce this morning, though.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all this afternoon.

....Finally, we're into March.  On our way to Spring.  Here we've had a cool brisk morning, but the sun is out shining bright.  So, by afternoon, we'll be above freezing.

Some places probably had some frost on all the water in the ground from the flooding.  I've heard figures as high as 6" night before last {of rain}...I saw water places that have not seen before, and we built this house 40 years ago.

We're high and dry, and those low places are draining.

Yesterday was root canal and fight an ear infection day....Next step in root canal, in a few weeks will be a crown.   Heading to Dermatologist this morning to see how infection {at spot he removed}, is doing....Believe we're gaining on it.  I'll be glad to move on from this stuff.

No snow here anymore....Tulips...Daffadils and Cosmos coming up thru the ground.

Driver & I have been all over that surrounding area on different maps.  The tower cams are on #5,#6,& #9.  #7 is on the tower grounds, but set up fairly close to the canal - on the ground. It is startling to see "legs" walking by there! The stick is for the Kingfisher that will be there later in the spring/summer/fall.

That doesn't appear to be the same nestbox as #3, though.  This is a single in Helmond.  .

The canal shot (with the stick across it) also appears to be nearby, as determined by some background noise heard on several of the de Mortel tower shots. See above

Saw the birds in cam #3 several times.  One appeared to be digging in the corner nearest the opening on the far side of the box.  The other hid on the other end of the box when it was there.  Female in corner trying to make nursery.  Probably male cowering in corner since she really yells at him!

The # 8 cam is on a birdfeeder during daylight and on the owl box at nite.  Have heard the owl several times, seen it a few times and figure it will also have a nest fairly soon.  This cam is on (private, I think) property not too far from the tower and have seen (beside the birds) some cows, horses and today, some whitetail deer (2) on the grassy part that you sometimes see.

Peregrines are really flying around #6 and #9 - they will nest soon.

#1 and #2 had rail work done the other nite.  Raining pretty steady, so couldn't make out too much of what they were doing.

As you have time, check out the comm towers in the Netherlands.  There are a lot of them and they are all very tall and interesting shapes.

Might try the pillow again in a bit.

I am a snotnose right now and miserable.  Eyes itch, ears itch, nose runs, feet smell.  Pillow might work!  Maybe I can smother myself!  Blindfold

Now Mookie that is not the way to talk.  Yes colds are horrible but I will trade your cold for my shoulder anyday of the week.  My little one started to fall after rocking his highchair so hard I had to grab him in midair.  Trouble was I landed on my Surgically repaired shoulder.  MRI shows I destroyed all the repairs that were done on it.  So back under the knife I go.
