Hello. A late start here today. 34° now with a high 37°. Chinook wind has kicked in, but not as strong as the last two occurrences.

Larry, that was quite the Radar Photo. A paranoid person might think someone is out to get them. I liked Mookie's comment about you not being in Kansas anymore.

I only had about ten minutes to check the Trains site last night and it worked really well. I didn't change anything on my end, so the problem must have been somewhere else.

I will have to get out do some errands while it is still warm.

The wreck mentioned in the News Wire at Carmangay, AB has been cleared up, and Calgary-Lethbridge service is back to normal. This is the line that also carries traffic down to the BNSF at Great Falls, MT.

To be accurate, I should also add traffic on the Calgary-Lethbridge line also goes on through the Crowsnest Pass and the down to the UP at Spokane, WA.

Quentin, I trust you an Jean are surviving, and she able to some things for herself and will not wear you out taking care of her.

And Johnny,,. we're working together to get thru this.....I am not a cook, nor do I care to try to be one, but with my help we did pretty good today.  And our best wishes for health on your end for you and family.

Quentin, for several years now, I have been doing most of the cooking. There was a time back when Ricki was working for the Census Bureau, interviewing people two-three weeks every month (she never worked on the decennial census, but on several on-going surveys), I would come home at 7:30, and she would be upstairs, interviewing people by telephone. I realized that if I were to have supper at a reasonable hour, I had to see to it. After she retired, we made no change--and it is working well with her inability to stand or walk around without support.

Bright sunshine today, with a low of about twenty. Next week is promised to be warmer.

Appetizers:  Shrimp egg roll, roast pork egg roll and fried wonton

Soup:  Wonton, egg drop, chicken noodle and chicken rice

Fried Rice:  roast pork, shrimp, beef, chicken and vegetable

Chow Mein:  Plain, roast pork, chicken, beef, shrimp and house special (which is a little bit of all the above listed Chow Meins

Sweet & Sour:  Pork, chicken and shrimp

Lunch/Dinner Combinations:

1.  Moo Goo Gai Pan

2.  Kung Po Chicken

3.  Seafood Combination

4.  Pepper Steak

5.  Boneless Spare Ribs

6.  Beef w/broccoli

Everyone enjoy, have a good afternoon, and take care.

Lake effect band swung north this afternoon, resulting in a fresh six inches of snow in my driveway.  It's all gone (from the driveway) now.  The snowfall has tapered off as well.

Just got back from a fire call - apparently someone shut off the water, but not the boiler.  No major damage, from what I hear.  It was real fun driving the engine through the snow, though.  Not.

Better get some rest, in case the band wanders north again.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Partly cloudy skies w/a temp of 17 degrees this morning.  Supposed to make it up to 36 today.  The low tonight/in the morning is to only be in the mid to upper 20s.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  the usual Friday selection of doughnuts and danish, along with  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, jelly, jam and preserves.

Mudchicken, I need to check to see if we have any of the Panda dishes here.  Have seen the commercials on TV, but that's about it.  Also, when do you want me to start ordering your Gatorade?

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care.

Johnny...........Since we all use computers to do our thing on this forum, we know EVERYBODY, at one time or another has to fight some side effects in these machines.  No problem.

Here, I fought the problem of my machine continuing to slow down over a long period of time, and I kept seeking things to do and try, and after some time, I actually made headway, and it now has speeded back up very respectively.   I"m certainly not the expert on here, but I just kept seeking answers, and finally did great improvements to it.

I still have one problem with it....that is:  I'm trying to resize the pic on my 16 x 9 monitor, as it has the pic. stretched out too much....Example:  A circle now appears to be an oval somewhat....

Maybe someone might comment on some moves to try on that.  That seemed to occur when I changed over to SP 3 and when I was able to do some "cleaning" to speed up my operations.

We have sunshine off and on coming in the east window this morning....light clouds / and some holes in them allow sunshine at times.  This is the day we'll start to see the transformation over to a changed weather pattern...{from what I've heard}....Jet stream is going north where it belongs, and it will assume it's normal W to E movement trapping some of the cold north air, and allowing us this anticipated warm up for today and all thru nest week.

Perhaps, now with the structure back to normal, we've possibly seen our last extreme cold this season....and maybe even the same for extreme frozen precip.   A friend, has quoted the Farmers Almanic is basically saying the same thing to occur by Feb. 14th.  Would be nice now if that is really what is next for us.

Not as cold this morning.

Edit:  Forgot to mention, the very large factory that Progress Rail is in the process to change to their needs, has taken down the very large icon on the front of said factory:  ABB.  Have not been past it for some time now, to see if the new lettering has been prepared to put up in  replacement, identifying the new business.

I assume most readers of TRAINS, current issue....have noted a pic of part of the front of the former ABB building here in Muncie.  Looking forward to the process and activity of the new business at the "new" plant.  It certainly seems to me, it's a building made to fit the Progress Rail needs.

Good Morning. 37° now, up to 43° later under partly cloudy skies.

Had a productive day yesterday running errands and went out to supper. Went to bed thinking it was a good day, then ended up not being able to sleep due to pain flare up in my right shoulder. I don't think I will get much done today although I am going to try soon to see if I can't get some sleep.

I was interested to see on both the CN and CP web sites that they are both experiencing delays in the Chicago area due to post storm congestion. I was wondering if any of you folks knew any more about it. Is this the storm that happened back a week ago Tuesday, or have I lost count? The way this winter is going that could have happened.

Seems like a stay at home day for me.

The lake effect came back north overnight, leaving about 8" in the driveway.  There's more than a foot on top of the bird feeder, and the "patio," measured a few days ago at 28" for the season, now completely swallows the yardstick - a gain of at least 10", including settling.

Netherlands railcam has lots of traffic right now - if you can see it through the raindrops.  The main cam isn't showing the club across the tracks any more, but you can get a glimpse of the station in the distance now.

Good afternoon! How is everyone today? Beautiful day today here in Wyoming. 28 degrees with a warm up ahead of us. Looks like we are in the clear for more of that sub zero weather! I know most other parts had the same... But add 50mph winds on it... Laramie set a record for -61 degrees with a wind chill! Thought I'd stop in and say hello before I head off to work tonight! If its a slow night, I just got my latest Trains and Model Railroader to get me through the set. Hope everyone is well!

Hi RJ, glad to see you in here.  It's been awhile.  Hope you can come in a liitle more often, whenever you have the time.

I think our high today got up to about 39, if not 40 degrees.  Sent Walt out to the grocery earlier, and he said, when he got back, that it felt good outside, except for the very cool breeze.  Other than getting the paper off the porch early this morning, and putting a piece of outgoing mail out on the mailbox, I haven't had my head out the door today.

Our Friday Fish Fry is on the serving station, with all the regular kinds of fish, regular list of veggies and desserts.

Hope you all enjoy, have a good evening and take care.

Joe - was out watching a Tonka Toy - front end loader and backhoe - he was burying tresspassers!  Mischief Had a lot of dirt to cover them, too.

Tree - last nite about 5 am their time, the owl was back at the box #8.  Didn't say much, but back inside inspecting.  Now have to print retraction:  After much searching and using a new search engine rather than the usual one - the nest cam is home to a Eurasian Kestrel, not a Hobby.  There is a little difference, but depending on the photo, it is sometimes hard to tell.

Anyway, there has been a lot of foot stamping and calling, so figure maybe a male looking for a female to answer the phone!  He drug what I thought was a small twig in there last nite.  Turned out the twig was a naked tail of some non-descript take out order.  Ugh again.

It was a beautiful day here and just keeps getting better.  I am now wearing my vitamin D on my right side of my neck where the sun was coming in Millie's window.  Pretty in Pink!

Good Saturday morning everyone.  31 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Think we're to get into the upper 30s, possibly into the low 40s today (can't remember what I heard on the weather report).

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Saturday brunch is on the serving station:  bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, biscuits, toast, sausage gravy, fried country ham, red eye gravy,  fruits (apples, bananas, oranges, kiwi, papaya, etc.), and there's also some pancakes, waffles, jams, jellies and preserves.

May everyone have a beautiful, safe day today, and I'll see you all later on when we're all back in here for our pizza fest.  Have a good day and take care.

Bright, but overcast this morning....I'd say though...we're going to have some sunshine today....and melting of this long overdue to leave, stuff.

31 plus degrees now and expected to be in the melting range soon...

An unusual dusting of snow during the night.  I didn't see it but Jean said at 3am it was almost a white out....Appearance of it all this morning seems to be just a dusting though....Maybe even that is too much.

Some mentioning "old computers"....back a few posts.  Believe our first computer was a Commador {Not sure if it was a 64 or 128}, with the cassette tape peripheral.  And we had the "control stick", and I remember of flying an airplane right around the John Handcock building in Chicago....

Item:  One or the other reminded me....one night coming into O'Hare Airport {ORD}, from the west, but for some reason we came all the way over to the Lake and made a sharp turn to go back towards the airport for final approach, and it was snowing and I remember looking out the window as we were in a pretty steep bank and I could look right over at the John Hancock building....But can't remember which occured first...The "computer flying"...or the real thing....

And now the weak sun, thru the thin clouds is blazing right in my east window her....Blaze on....and get this melting starting...!

Still about half afraid to chance to walk down the driveway and across the icy street to get to the mail box.  One thing we can get plenty of here in central Indiana, is ice.  I promise, before we enter another season of it....we'll have those "grabbers" to install on our shoe soles.

But we believe it's now starting to get better....

About an inch overnight, but a bit heavier, so the snowblower got a brief workout.

Sounds like heavy snow to the south of me.  They just closed the Interstate due to several accidents, including one involving a state police car that was already investigating another accident.  Good day to stay home!

I don't usually get on the Netherlands railcam during the day, although the one cam had a couple of pigeons on it yesterday when I took a look.

I probably should accomplish something productive today - heaven knows I've got enough potential projects!

Old computers - first home computer was a TI-99, for which we used cassette players to store data.  I was taking computer courses at the time in college and would sometimes translate between programming languages so I could work the bugs out of a procedure.

On a later computer I spent a lot of time flying MSFS out of Meigs Field.

Now I'd rather run trains on Trainz...

Meigs Field is where our "program" on the old computer / cassette had us take off, and somehow I worked my way up in the air and fly around the J. Hancock.

I have been into Meigs Field in a real airplane....Our Co. plane dropped me off there way back in 1971 to go to the Federal Building downtown, to get a passport....Not possible to do the same here in Muncie when it was needed in a hurry.

Meigs Field was not that compfortable of space to set down on either....I believe that has been closed now for some time....Anyone know for sure....?

Good Morning. 32° now, sunny, and a high of 45°. One of the better 7 day forecasts I've seen for awhile now.  We are far from the end of winter up here, but the cycle of storm/Chinook seems to be broken. Maybe the weather will settle down for a week or so.

Near as I can tell, no news must be good news on the RR front.

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday.

The first personal computer I ever saw was about 1978-9. My friend from work was a Electrical Engineer and he built his own on a small motherboard. It had a single line of display like a calculator, and he hooked it up to the cassette deck in his stereo system through the cassette deck's earphone plug. We played a game called "Hunt the Wumpus" one Friday evening.

I next saw small computers in the early eighties. An old, by then, Apple IIe and 286's at work. Load the OS on a floppy drive, take it out, and the insert Lotus 1-2-3. I never had a computer at home until 1995, a 486.

I'm typing this on a great little Acer laptop. Low price, but I think I may have exploited Asian child labour in order to get one so cheaply. Oh dear...

I just happened to think of a unit in our Lab Engineering area.....This goes back a couple decades....If my memory serves me correctly, it's brand name was "Wang"....Hope that's correct.  I'm sure at least a couple decades as later this year, I will have been retired 18 years.

It's readout was on one line with red digital readout.  That goes back into the 70's.
