Last summer, when I was laid up away from home, I was served cream of tin can soup (along with other not-so-appetizing stuff).

Tom, that does sound like Very Good News!! Hope "Follow-ups" Go as well.
Johnny, are you sure that was "tin" and not "zinc", or other Horrid tasting food?! Besides the fact of terrible food, Hospitals are the only place I know that wake you up to give you a sleeping pill!

cherokee woman switch7frg: Eveni'n CW ; I'll have supper # 3 / w guacomole & red sauce gravy. And ice tea.Sure hope the doc will give you some soothi'n sauve for your back. Jim Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Jim, the doctor didn't prescribe any salve, just different therapy. Maybe I'll have better luck this time! We have a temp of 70 or 71 degrees this morning. It's a little bit on the cool side. I did step out to get the paper, and walked down our sidewalk, to look up the street. I had heard on the news, that a car/vehicle had struck a building at 26th & Hale, which is just one block north of our house! Don't see anything, but it is still quite dark outside. Guess I'll try to investigate a little later on this morning. Coffee and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go this morning, including some hot chocolate and hot apple cider. On the serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and toast. There is also some boxes of cereal, if any of you just want a bowl of cereal this morning. Everyone have a good morning, and Mookie, here's your coffee mug!!

Well, CW mentioned earlier about a vehicle vs building about a block north of our house, sure 'nuff!! I'm not sure if they were trying for a "Drive-Through", or a "Drive-In"!! I was able to get a pic. not long after they got the car taken away; guess it will be a day or three before the business opens back up.

Great picture Walt. Too bad we didn't get up there sooner, and get a picture with the car in the building!
Tom, glad everything went all right, and hope the next round goes just as well for you!!
For supper tonight (and late lunch on the west coast):
Grilling out again tonight: Our menu will be burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, and nice, cold watermelon for dessert. Joe, that'll be something that will be fast and easy for you to load up to take for your supper at work tonight!
Everyone have a good evening and take care.
A tip of the hat to Paula for a phone call & an assist to get me back on the forum. I have been rebooting even in my dreams. Barbara & I made a trip over to Iowa over the weekend. I don't have any exciting pictures, (like Walt) or any trains. BNSF might have had the weekend off as well. One of my pics of the Des Moines River turned out well.
.....Had a simllar experience {as Walt's photo shows}, of the car that drove into a building.
Back in the late 80's...Bob Hope was due to arrive in downtown Johnstown, Pa., specifically at the Holiday Inn downtown hotel {where we were staying}, as he had a performance at the near by War Memorial facility that evening.
I was positioned right at the entrance of the hotel waiting for his arrival, and using a wide angle lens, {so I could get a sharp close up picture at his arrival}. And just as he arrived {big crowd around}, a lady right across the street must have known he was arriving, and she drove her {late model car}, across the parking lot, and right into and thru a brick wall of a one story office building. The car went in all the way up to the windshield. She was not seriously injured.
And I got photos of Bob {very close}, and of the incident across the street. Photos are on prints...film camera.

To quote Walt: "Johnny, are you sure that was "tin" and not "zinc", or other Horrid tasting food?! Besides the fact of terrible food, Hospitals are the only place I know that wake you up to give you a sleeping pill!" Maybe it was zinc; I really do not remember tasting the mossy zinc when I was releasing hydrogen from water in High School, so I am not sure
This past January, when I stayed at the health resort after getting the lower end of my digestive tract rearranged, somehow I was not given a sleeping pill. I did have some conversation with a young night nurse who had recently started working.
That is an interesting picture that Walt took; it reminds me of an incident a few years ago when someone cut the corner across the street from us--he went through a board fence at the side of the property and then under the pipe at the top of the chain link fence in front of the house. I never heard that he was caught.
BANG BANG BANG AWAKE?
She who has no signature! cinscocom-tmw
Yes, Mookie, I'm awake! Have been for a little over an hour. We have a nice, cool 61 degrees this morning (when I awoke, it was 64), going for a high of about 82 degrees.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. As a matter of fact, here's your mug, Mookie.
On the serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and toast.
Last evening, Walt and I scaled mushrooms, and put them in freezer bags. I thought we'd never get done. But we finally got them done, and in the freezer.
Around ten or so this morning, I'll be making a batch of beef stew, and just before it is ready to eat, I'll make/bake some cornbread.
Rain is supposed to make its way in here sometime time tomorrow, and end some time Saturday. It will be nice to see some rain. Ground is really dry. The sprinkles we had Tuesday morning didn't do anything to relieve the dryness.
Everyone have a good morning, and take care. Hey Mookie, want to go out into the garden this morning? Maybe we can sit out there in our rockers!
Mookie BANG BANG BANG AWAKE?
....We were a little cooler than Louisville this morning....52 degrees.
But with nice blue skies, and lots of sunshine, it's warming up nicely.
Dry, is still the word here.
Some more paving is being done in our addition this week....Surprised me, wasn't expecting that. But our street was redone several years ago....{Result at least in part, Jean and I attending local Council meetings}....Screeching wheel ,etc.....
Okay, the beef stew and cornbread are both ready and on the serving station. (And here in Louisville, the stew on simmering on the stove top.) There are two kinds of cornbread, and they're both marked: one is sweet cornbread, and the other is unsweet). I know there are some people who don't like the taste of unsweetened cornbread, so I usually make both kinds.
I'm not quite sure what our current temp is, but I can tell you that it is very, very pleasant outside, just a little bit on the cool side. But it feels good when you're outside. And I've been outside several times this morning, and a couple of times already, this afternoon.
Everyone enjoy your afternoon, your food, and take care.
I ws introduced to Coke bottle reveille when I was in college (once, a misguided boy tried it), and have not missed it since. One night, one summer, another misguided dorm resident beat on the fire alarm (brake drum) with the brick that was kept by it--and I learned about his caper the next day (the drum was mounted on the wall around a corner from my room). A few nights later, he woke up in the middle of the night, tried to rise up and could not because he was tied down. He woke in time to hear something like "Boys, let him have it," and immediately began swimming in the large garbage can full of water and such trash that had been in the can that was poured on him. His fire was put out.
We were told this morning that the local temperature then was 67F. When I went out, about 7:30, it felt more like upper fifties. Our low today is predicted be 46F, after the next cold front comes in, bringing snow in the mountains. Look out, MudChicken; it's coming your way!
I see Mooks is her normal subtle self today.
Johnny - Hope the moisture is all aimed at 4-Mile Canyon west of Boulder...the fire is not contained and well over a hundred folks lost their houses so far.
On Thomas detail (narrow gauge version) for the next few weekends, the news media folks that usually read stories to the kids will be otherwise employed at least this weekend.
Gotta go over the hill next week and up to the high country. (snow? - it figures
Awake? Barely.
Knew I had to run down to the railroad today to retrieve my uniform coat so I could wear it at the local train show on Sunday (the show is on Saturday, too, but I have other commitments).
Nonetheless I was awakened about 0130 for an EMS call. Turned out to be a less than good call - as evidenced by the paramedic calling up to me (as I was driving the ambulance - something I'm rarely called on to do) to "pour some coal to it." Alas, I found out late this afternoon that the patient passed away this morning. And since this is a small town, I knew him.
Still got work to do to get ready for Mom, but a nap sounds really inviting, too...
And I've got pies to help make tomorrow... (I roll with a marble rolling pin. Only the best!)
Tree: Blueberry, please. And don't forget to take your new bowl for tater chips or donuts.....
Sir Chicken: Did you hear that all the way in another time zone? Awwww....
Mookie Sir Chicken: Did you hear that all the way in another time zone? Awwww....
sneezed a couple of times, but smelled nothing. You know that nothing every comes to Lincoln - it passes us to the north and goes to Omaha and then on to Iowa.
Halo now great hula-hoop....
Good night. Keep those garbage cans, firecrackers, pots and pans, shotguns, and all else QUIET!
Good Friday morning everyone. We have 67 degrees this morning here in Louisville. According to the radar, the rain is on its way, should be here around mid morning. Sarah's been very busy these last couple of days, working on getting her locomotive horns on her Jeep. Walt has been helping her with them. Man, is there a lot of work in getting them on a vehicle.
Coffee, hot chocolate, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: doughnuts: cake, yeast, crullers, cream filled chocolate covered long johns, vanilla filled long johns, danish (raspberry, cherry, peach), cinnamon doughnuts, doughnut holes. And, of course, there's bagels and bear claws. There's also some turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and toast for anyone who doesn't want doughnuts this morning.
May you all have a very good morning, and take care. Roy, it's good to see you were able to stop by for a few last night.
good morning
the 765 was delightful to see yesterday.I didn't have time to go to bellvue where they dropped the pilot engine and she ran by herself with the tool car to akron.going to need to go to town this morning here in a bit.
Top of the mornin to ye. 69 degrees and sunny in Carolina. It sure is nice to have some livable weather for a change. The foot seems to be better, but I am always supposed to be lying down with it elevated. Now how can I be computering like that. Guess I need to find a way to hang stuff from the cieling!! Looking into it.... Take care
Tom
COAST LINE FOREVER
It is better to dwell in the corner of a roof than to share a house with a contentious woman! (Solomon)
A contentious woman is like a constant dripping! (Solomon)
Tom - putering at an angle takes some planning and then getting used to....
I have a corner desk on my right, (fortunately I am right-handed), parallel my chair to the desk and put my feet up on a folding chair. If I need to type, I can move the keyboard to my lap - or just sit up for a few minutes. My desk chair leans back and I have a wall behind me. Ergo, I can practically lie down to puter and also take some great naps when it all becomes too much work.
65, spit and 100% humidity. Mixed feelings there. Poor Colorado. Something's burning, big time!
Tom ; what a clever idea to hang the puter from the ceiling. wish I thought of the idea. Foot pain and surgery is not fun time. Best wishes and quick recovery on your next operation without pain. Smile, it makes people wonder what your up to.
Respectfully, Cannonball
Y6bs evergreen in my mind
Afternoon all. We did get some rain earlier this morning. Haven't checked to rain gauge to see how much we did manage to get. Supposed to be some more spotty showers coming through. Our thermometer is showing 66. something degrees at 1 p.m.
Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way. Here are your selections:
FISH: Catfish, bass, cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, talapia, jumbo butterfly shrimp, salmon patties
SIDE DISHES: Baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, breaded fried mushrooms, fries, hush puppies, mac & cheese
DESSERTS: Chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, peach and cherry cobblers; blueberry and pecan pies.
Tom, after I had my knee surgery, almost three years ago, a couple of times, Sarah brought her laptop down for me to use. While sitting/lying on the couch, I had the laptop on my lap. (I'd also sit in my recliner/rocker, actually using it as a recliner, so that my right leg was up a little bit.)
Everyone enjoy your lunch, have a good afternoon, and I'll see you again this evening.
.....Clear blue sky here today. 63 early this morning. Now, 72...So it's a very nice day. But still bone dry...No rain in this area.
Radar map that I looked at this morning has that blob of weather coming up from Texas and is turning east.....And, I thought that was our chance to get some soaking rain, but looking at it's path this morning, it appears most of it might slide under us on it's way east.
Hanging computer stuff from the ceilng.....What about all the wires...? That could be a mess.
And Joe I'm glad to hear 765 is up and running again. Just wish it somehow would pay a visit to Muncie as it did back in the 80's several times.
And all the destructive fires out west....Terrible. Bet the fatility numbers will rise as more is uncovered in Los Angles. Terrible explosion allegedly from leaking natural gas. When we had this house built...that was one thing I did not want in it....Natural gas.
well someone must have miffed the cat.Mom and I saw an M-1 abrahms tank going west.Matt will be home soon.
Q-hopefully with the new partnerships with other steam operations down south the 765 can run through Muncie again soon. The new heartland corridor project will be bringing more traffic your way.
Cw thanks for supper tonight.
