Tooooom, Sarah didn't break it!  She found it that way, when the train went into Emergency.  And no, I don't think she'll have to pay for it.

We have an edit on the breakfast menu for this morning:

French toast, bacon, pork sausage links and scrambled eggs, along with the homemade cinnamon rolls.

After finding the broken train, did Sarah put a splint on it?Smile

Several years ago, I made the mistake of setting a privet out by the back fence--under our powerline. Yesterday, I did the annual pruning, cutting about five feet of new growth off. In the process, I disturbed something I had never seen before, a yellow preying mantis. I tried to encourage it to go where I would not accidentally prune it, but I am not sure I succeeded.

Yes, I have known about privet almost my entire life (including the fact that you can get wonderful switches from the plant--"Go, cut a piece of privet!"). I still think of the day one of my brothers drastically pruned the privet at the front corner, and that evening a Greyhound bus came thundering up the alley by the house because the driver had used the tall privet, and not the highway signs or the flashing yellow light, to tell him to make a 90o turn.

Cool mornings (in the fifties), rising to the eighties during the day. I think that I can shut the swamp cooler down until next spring.

Looks like we'll be getting the leftovers from Joe's watering here in a little bit.

Took Mom to the airport this AM for a visit to MD.   Picking her up on Sunday to continue her visit in NY.

Here is Ray's selection for our lunch menu today:

Homemade vegetable beef soup w/sandwiches (grilled cheese, roast beef, ham, turkey, and chicken salad.

Later on, for our dinner/supper menu:  we'll have grilled steaks, burgers and hot dogs, w/corn on the cob and baked beans, along with potato salad, macaroni salad, and mac & cheese.

Ray's birthday dessert request for today:  homemade ice cream with the following selection of toppings:  hot chocolate fudge, strawberries, pineapple, and cherries.

I think we were lucky this morning, if we managed to get 1/10 in. of rain.  It was very light, and was over very quickly.  We might be lucky and get a little bit more later on this afternoon.  Sure hope so.

Ray and everyone else, enjoy your lunch, and have a good, safe afternoon.

Tom, since the yard crew in Cincy put together the train, they(?) apparently had no idea that the drawbar on that car would fail at that particular time.......so I guess that would be "sources unknown" that broke it!

Super is coming off the grill, and is on the warmer/serving station:

Grilled steaks, burgers and hot dogs.  There's also some baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, macaroni & cheese, macaroni salad and some fruit salad.

As promised, there's more ice cream w/the various toppings, and I also made some peach cobbler and some chocolate chip cookies.  (Had to have something to put a birthday candle into for Ray!)

LET THE BIRTHDAY PARTY BEGIN!!!! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

Tell Sarah that I never broke a knuckle, but I tore up plenty of track, switches, and cars when I worked for the WSOR.  At least they put down new stuff after they cleaned up my messes.....

Nice here in Hebron, IN, about 67, cooling to the 50s tonite.  One of our Georgia trucks dumped a load of Bud on I-75 in near the same spot as one several months ago, starting to wonder if that area may be cursed.  Did learn that the company is giving us free food tomorrow up in Richfield, WI, for driver's appreciation week.  Now, if we could just be appreciated......

See everyone later....

Ray, HAPPY BIRTHDAY  Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

Hope it's been a great one, and you have many more!

Randy, did you get a chance to look at Sarah's pictures on Facebook?

That drawbar just came on out where it broke at the retaining pin; knuckle was still attached to the knuckle of the car ahead.

Had a nice dinner for our county firefighters association meeting, now it's time for bed.  Trainmaster called earlier and asked if I was available tomorrow - apparently the scheduled conductor marked off.  Fortunately I hadn't made any real plans...

Still raining, but lightly.  Still, seven tenths of an inch of rain since it started around noon.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Hope you all had an enjoyable evening.  Here in Louisville, we are starting out with 64 degrees here in the city; outlying areas are in the mid to upper 50s.  Going for a high of about 86 for today, with plenty of sunshine.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, doughnuts, danish, muffins, along with the usual breakfast menu of turkey bacon, pork sausage, biscuits & gravy and scrambled eggs.

Mookie, if you'd like to go out into the garden this morning, train watching, I've got a box of kleenex handy for us:  if you're like me, you are probably sneezing so much, you wonder if your head is going to leave your body!

Everyone have a very good morning, and take care.

To all those of you in the Flat Wheel Diner who were on hand to wish me a happy birthday yesterday, I say "Thank you!!"

It's shaping up to be a pretty nice day here in Sioux Falls, our expected high is 68 degrees. I've been under the care of a chiropractor for the last two months, and yesterday I went for a walk, I covered nearly 3 miles in a round trip - that that's the first time I've felt up to doing that in a long time.

I've got a nephew who is coming up from Lincoln, Nebraska tomorrow, he is going to install a new lining or flue in my chimney. My house was originally built somewhere between 1885 and 1900 and had a coal burning furnace.

Sunshine here this morning....A bit on the cool side, but warming some.  it's not cold.

Both vehicles backed out of garage to clean out leaves blown in from yesterday's Fall like winds.....With garage door open, they like to blow around the corner of the house and whip around and into open garage door.....Just like in Winter, the snow can pile up in front of garage door from same wind effect.  But thankfully, we're not there yet.

Wife and granddaugher cleaning out some long term mags. and stuff out of a file cabinet that she wants to dispose of....Trains mags. going into recently purchased plastic storage containers.  Now to get rid of storage {file}, cabinet.  Must check neighbor....he has several kinds of businesses, and I know his office is jammed full....We'll see....

Still bone dry here....Hence the dry leaves blowing around from neighbors....I have no trees that have leaves....Just evergreens, by design....on purpose, less leaves to care for in Fall.

Good afternoon.  Have done several little things around the house this morning, one of which is my back exercises.  Now, I only have to do them once more today.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way.  Along with the regular menu of fish, I have also grilled some salmon steaks and catfish fillets.  Regular menu of side dishes and regular dessert menu.

BTW Quentin, I always have plenty of chocolate ice cream on hand:  I'd rather have chocolate ice cream than vanilla any day of the week.  Although, I will eat vanilla ice cream (especially if it has black walnuts in it).

You all enjoy, have a good afternoon, and take care.

CW - we are buying stock in allergy pills.  Driver has had problems all week long and now I am starting.  Think mine is milder.  I wonder if there is ragweed growing somewhere in the house....maybe I should check under the bed?

Granddaughter and great-grandson heading back to Montana this morning and .....snow in Northern Montana!  I am definitely not done with summer yet!  Grumpy

....Paula:

Yes, we try {very hard}, to not run out of the necessary, chocolate ice cream.  Recently, we've noted a very convenient way to keep it.  Our Meijer's store has packaged {like dixie cups}, ice cream...that seems just about the right amount one has at a setting.

Perhaps they've had it all along, but we just noticed them early this Summer.  Perhaps a bit more exspensive that way, but not priced unfairly.

Evenin, how yall?

Quite a day at Pettibone Plantation. For some time now, we have been talking about getting some tree work done. I should get into that business. I got the guy over here for an estimate, and although it was a reasonable amount in retrospect, I like to have gone into apoplexy. When I told the wife, she went off like an artillery shell and the place is just now finally starting to calm down. I had no idea that prices in that business had increased so dramatically. Stuff that I had done 10 years ago has increased 10 fold.....

Other than that happy note. not a whole lot to report from Carolina. Currently, it is 83 and cloudy, although the last time I checked, there was no rain forecast. Let's hope they are wrong.

All for now. C U later

Good Sunday morning.  Currently 60 degrees here in Louisville.  Going to be a fairly hot one today, high going to upper 80s to about 91 degrees today.  Looks like I'm not the only one to fall back asleep this morning, or still asleep.

Coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, and juices are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, grits, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, some country fried ham, red eye gravy.

That should keep you all kind of full for whatever you have on track for your Saturday morning and afternoon.  Everyone have a very  good day, keep safe and see you all back in here tonight for our pizza fest.

9:39 a.m.  OOPS!!  I meant to say, "Good Saturday Morning!!"  Ray, thanks for pointing out my mistake!!

"Good Sunday morning"???? Today is actually Saturday the 18th of September, Paula. But then, I get a little confused now and then too, and I think one of my medications has a lot to do with it!!

Currently it is raining here in Sioux Falls, we have a temp of 41 degrees and the wind chill places us at 34. I have a nephew who has come up here from Lincoln, Nebraska to install a new flue or liner in my chimney, and hopefully it will have stopped raining before he shows up.

Hello Americans it's Saturday. Paula, I was a bit taken back with your typo. I was afeared that I had misplaced a day somewhere. Once a day is misplaced, it can be hard to find again,

77 and sunny in Carolina, headed for 91 later. I doubt that I will go out tonight, but one never knows. The foot is much better, though not quite healed so things are iffy still.

Everyone have a great day

We have a beautiful morning here....Sunshine.  Temps warming back up again.  To have several very warm days in the upcoming week.

News in our morning paper:  A couple of young people came out of a near by bar {to the RR},  here in Muncie, night before last....and a train was backing on N S tracks and one decided to crawl thru {over the coupler area}, for what reason, perhaps we don't know, but fell down between the cars and had his right leg amputated above the knee....!  Left leg badly damaged too.

Paper indicates he's in critical condition.  I believe he was taken to a hospital in Indy.  That was a costly trip to a bar....Terrible end result...
