Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Well, we've been getting thunder, lightning, and pouring rain for at least an hour.  Satellite even went out for awhile.  Thunder & lightning have moved on from our immediate area, but still need to watch, as we're supposed to be getting more throughout this morning.

I talked with an 'old' friend of ours from the forums last night:  Jim Haguewood.  He's doing all right, still working with UP there in North Little Rock.  He said to tell everyone "Hello" from him and Dutchess.  Mookie, he especially asked about you, if you were still around here.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  (Mookie, think I'll have a glass of nice, cold chocolate milk this morning.  Want to join me?)

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, etc.

I am not looking forward to Tuesday Produce this morning, with the Freedom School going on.  They get to be in the nice, dry gym, while we will be outside, in the pouring rain, with the thunder and lightning.  Oh joy, joy.

Anyway, everyone take care, and I'll see you all later.

P.S.  Walt seems to be doing a little bit better this morning.  Got him some Ginger Ale last night, and that at least, seems to be staying down.

Smile  Ms. Mookie; that is really an event (quite) to say. When the engine hits the diamond thats the start of controled chaos.  As the train gathers speed bits of ballast chips fly about , then dust comes up . All in a matter of seconds. It scared the daylights  outta me  the first time I saw that when I was10 standing 1/2 way up the stairs on the tower in Dayton Ohio east end.  Still quite a sight today. ~~~~~  Cannonball

Thanks for supper Paula. I tried one of everything and all were good. Mookie, have you ever noticed that nothing can cool you off on a hot day like cold choc milk? It beats ice tea, cola, beer, you name it, and tastes good too!

We had a real whizzbanger of a storm come by abour an hour ago. A line of red and yellow running from NC down to southern SC, full of watches for severe thunderstorms and a few for tornadoes. The temp dropped from 88 to 73 in short order.

When I had to reformat the HD, I lost my Realplayer library, so have been fiddling with that for a while. No sign of the hacker at present, but I'm gonna load a second firewall to make certain.

Everyone take care

Grilled cheese and tomato soup - gosh, I haven't had that delicious combination in ages!

One of our volunteers asked me to put together a couple of "sandwich board" signs for an upcoming event, so that's been my project most of the day.  They're all put together, now it comes down to waiting for the paint to dry so I can give them a second coat.

Time to kick back.

Well, it looks like the roast, etc., was cleaned up at lunch time, and no one has given me any suggestions for supper tonight.  So, here is what I've come up with:

1.  Grilled cheese sandwiches w/your choice of the following soups:  vegetable beef, cream of mushroom, tomato

2.  Hamburgers or cheeseburgers w/fries and garden salad

You all have a good evening, enjoy your supper, and take care.

Good afternoon. Walt. I hope you feel better soon. It's miserable to have the gripes, and I wish you well.

Slept in today, and may well go back and try again. I have days like this when I can't seem to wake up.

89 and sunny today, Soon it may turn off hot!

Everyone take care

Afternoon, all.  It's been a pretty quiet day, so far, around here.  Walt is feeling a bit under the weather today; started with the hic cups last night, just before we started to eat supper.  He ended up putting his supper into a container, and putting it in the fridge.  Still not feeling too well, even now.  He must have picked up a "bug" somewhere, as he can't keep anything down.

Lunch is on the warmer/serving station:  leftover roast, taters & carrots from yesterday's dinner.

Anyone have any suggestions for supper/dinner tonight?

It's very warm and muggy, not sure if we'll see any rain at all this afternoon.  Hope so, though, as we could definitely use some moisture.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and take care.

I am loving the sweet corn this year, (as usual) and picking a few tomatoes from my patch. A few days ago, I posted a pic of a field of something. Carl won a prize for identifying a field of asparagus that had went to seed.

Our week is starting with mod. temps. and off and on sunshine.  But overnight is when we had weather....but it passed rather quickly.

1.45" of rain in a short time around 3 am.....The grass has unbelievablely greened up overnight.  Just mowed it last evening and it was fertlized about 3 days ago, and with this heat.....Guess, that explains the quick green up.  it was getting some brown spots but this did a bunch to green them up.

By noon today, I hope to be on site at our Muncie airport waiting for the landing of a WWII Flying Fortress....A B-17G.  It is to be here 3 days and can be inspected inside and rides will be available.

I've seen a Liberator {B-24}, and a B-17 come in here before, some years ago and they made a very low pass {maybe 500'}...over the airport, one right after the other before landing......What a site and sound.

So we're looking forward to get some pics. of this baby today.

Radar seemed to show no rain of any consequence today, but possibly a stray shower some places after the heat sets in this afternoon.

Best to all on here for a good week.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Mookie, sounds like you had quite a day yesterday!

We have a current temp of 76 degrees, going for a high in the mid upper 80s today, with about a 30% chance of hit and miss showers/storms.  Mostly overnight, it was definitely miss.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug, ready to be filled.

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  a selection of fresh fruit, turkey bacon, selection of cereals, and for the ones who can have it, pork sausage patties/links w/made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy and scrambled eggs.

Everyone have a good morning, and take care.  Think I'll be doing laundry a little bit later this morning.

For your dining pleasure:  BNSF is up and running!  Had one loaded coal running south (to St Joe area) and by the time the train was halfway over the diamond, he was really running fast.  They usually are pretty lazy about leaving town, but they must have heard there was a garage sale somewhere around St Joe.  Boy are they scary when they are leaving the throat of the yard, going around a tight curve and over the diamond.  Very dramatic, but if he tips a little too much he will wipe out at least 3 houses and a lot of backyards!

Anyway - saw a UP train.  A real complete UP coal train!  Had UP 5889 and SP 6374 on head end and UP 5979 as a DPU.  We have a couple of UP engines that do some switching, but this one came from the west, around the edge of the yard and right straight thru going south.  COEH, which are marks we don't usually see, altho it is Alabama and we have regular Alabama and Georgia trains go thru here.

I think I had a lot more fun than Tom and the gremlins.  But I am now exhausted - nap time!

Good afternoon all; I have been very busy with work and such.  Yesterday, I helped lay about 70 feet of track at a railway museum in Fort Erie, Ontario including tamping and tightening the bolts on the rail joiners....man even the tools are heavy.  The museum is working with 80 pound and 100 pound rail and in some cases, we have to weld the track and join it carefully to the 132 pound rail that was originally built in with the old diesel shops.

Afternoon all, I'm back in with our Sunday Dinner menu:

Chuck roast w/potatoes, carrots & a couple of onion cut up in with it, and we'll have corn on the cob, and garden salad.

Dessert:  your choice of the following cobblers:  blackberry, raspberry or blueberry.  If that doesn't whet your whistle, there's yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and strawberry shortcake w/your choice of Redi-Whip or Cool Whip topping. (Sorry, but I'm fresh out of real cream to go with the strawberries.)

Everyone enjoy, have a great afternoon, and take care.

Hello America, I'm back. I determined that I had been hacked and had to format and reinstall everything. Things are still in a state of flux, so bear with me. If anyone can help find the XP utility for changing the drive letters, I would be most obliged. I tried disk management, but it didn't list the CD player, which is what needs to be changed.

Still working on the computer, so be back later

Good Sunday morning, all.  Joe, thanks for making such a good breakfast.  Have my coffee, think I'll take a cinnamon roll, and some fresh fruit.  I know what you mean, about the Reds finding their hitting shoes:  If we have the game on, and watching, they do pretty good; if we don't have the TV on the game, they lose.  But, what can you do.  Sometimes you have to miss a televised game, due to other activities going on.

We have a temp in the mid 70s this morning, going for a high around 92 this afternoon, with the humidity creeping back up.  I think I even heard that we have a chance for some rain/storms coming in later tonight, into tomorrow.  We could really use the rain, though.

You all have a very good morning, keep cool and hydrated and take care.

The good old days of radio--two or three radios in the house

Yes, many radios had multi bands included, and made for some interesting dial twisting.

I even had a little "crystal" set as a teenager, and remember one night I actually picked up Kearny, Ne., and that was from western Pennsylvania.

Smile  Bob, nice looki'n greenery. That looks like the greenery at Sunset Point on I17 , until it dried out. Now today at bout 3:pm a flatlander tossed a cigarett out the window. As of 5:pm  300 acres up in smoke. Several fire companys  are there .  The Air Boss maybe will call for  air tanker or  : droop snoot"  chopper for daylight  ops. Until then the ground crews are doing their best. The fire is 9mi. from our place on the ridgeline. There is no homes  in the line of the fire.  The ( newsies) are still at a loss where it is at. Guess it is hard to see from the nice cool studio. HEH  HEH .    Jim

The good old days of radio--two or three radios in the house, one of which had a TRF circuit; the others did have superheterodyne circuits (all AM only). The radio combo had a naval aircraft receiver (standard broadcast band plus several shortwave bands) and a 78 rpm record player. It was good for getting the exact time from WWV. No worries about snow or such or having to pay more to get more stations. White's Radio Log listed all commercial stations around the world; many in eastern Canada had their transmitters at Sackville, N. S.

Last night, I turned the swamp cooler on for the first time this week.

Dan, nice pictures of Aedan. Who's that in the background in his party room?

77 on the mirror at Crawfordsville, IN, with a touch of humidity.  Have been running the truck often lately to stay cool.

Has been an interesting week, compounded by a change in blood pressure medication, have to make sure I can get to a restroom often now.  makes life interesting.......

Time to crawl into sleeper and go to bed......

Only one "train" today - a faux trolley in the big French Festival parade.  Pretty good crowd, but down a bit from last year, methinks.  The fireworks left a little to be desired, though.

Sunday it's back on the train, filling an empty conductor's slot.

At least the weather has gotten a little milder.  Although the sun was out in abundance, the heat at the French Festival wasn't oppressive, and there was a bit of a breeze.

Time for bed.

We had a Dumont television set in our house as a kid growing up......in New Jersey we had decent TV reception.  I do understand what it was like in the mountains...My cousins in northern Vermont had to battle with reception issues.

Murray

Remember the kinder gentler days...then you had the TV man come with your new "television set" (actually considered a piece of furniture) and he did all the installation and set up????

Murry, yes I understand what you are saying.....Guess Dad and I were a bit anxious as we drove 20 mi. to purchase our first TV...{An Air-King brand by the way}, A 10" console model.

Our home {in Western Pennsylvania}, was not in flat country and we errected a 54' tower and installed  "double stacked" all channel antennas on top and had to run 300' of 300 ohm line down to the house.  We had to do all this to get enough signal to pull in channel 3 WDTV {The Dumont TV Network}, in Pittsburgh, 68 mi. away with Laural Hill mountain between us.....I'm amazed {now}, we even got a signal back in those days.....running all that line, etc.....Of course it was not a perfect pic., by any means, but we did get a pic. and it was the only channel available until about a year later when Johnstown channel 6 WJACTV came on the air which was just 20 mi. distant.  Just a bit of TV trivia......Cool

Q,

For best TV reception make sure your TV is on to the show/channel you want to watch and then get busy doing something important.  Picture and sound will come in crystal clear.  Attempt to relax and you'll get snow (on the screen at least).

Dan.....After installing these {required} digital units today, I now have lost 6 or 7 HD channels.......Not too happy of a camper now.  Still have both of the remotes to program yet, so can't say much yet, but after I do so, and it's still as it is now.....#+@!

Dan - see Aedan had his party in his "man room"!

Joe - watched a junk train come in with 11 motors (all BNSF and all kinds) on the head end.  They must have been out "collecting" - they had a little of everything.
