Afternoon, all.  Just got off the phone, talking with Sarah.  She (and engineer) had just gotten into yard up in Cincy area.  Will probably see her back home sometime Sunday afternoon.

Here is the menu for the rest of today:  Our usual Friday Fish Fry is now on the warmer/serving station, along with all the regular side dishes and desserts.  And yes, there's more ice cream!  It's going to be a very good weekend for ice cream.

Everyone have a good afternoon, enjoy your dinner/lunch and I'll be back in a couple of hours, to refresh everything on the serving station.  You all take care and keep cool.

Johnny, you're right:  I've never heard before that you can get an infection from a rose.  Hope you are doing better!

Thanks, Paula. I am doing much better now; I walked Monday and Tuesday last week, and almost wished I had not, and did not walk again until yesterday morning. Ricki was worried lest I should be having a recurrence of cancer, but she is much relieved to know that my being off my feed was from whatever the thorns had in/on them. I will be very careful to only smell the roses people have in their yards and not brush the stems away.

My patch job on the swamp cooler float seems to be holding; maybe it will be safe to put my ladder away?

I have not yet checked to see what the official high is today; we expect the temperature to be a little cooler than 100 for several days now.

Those brownies sound tempting.

Good evening. 88 and sunny at present here in The Republic of SC. Behind me, one of my girls is squeaking. She has taken to doing that till she gets her way, and I am tempted to take the WD40 to her......

Joe, what is the corn city?

Joe, what is the corn city?

I'll take city nicknames for $200, Alex.

Deshler, OH is known as the Corn City, as well as the location of a former B&O diamond, with it's accompanying railfan park (and maybe still a few CPL's).  I've met with Joe (and Matt) a couple of times down there.

Good Morning

yes Deshler still has the Cpl's on the toledo sub including dwarf ones in the sidings at south Deshler. The B&O was interested in Deshler because of it's location so farmers in Putnam,Wood and Henry counties could bring their goods.Grain trains have been known to go in any direction in Deshler. There also used to be a branch connection down to Findlay ohio as well but that was removed years ago. With CSX you never know whose power you will see on the next train.Going to be a warm one so I'll need extra water today.Breakfast is ready.Juice and coffee are ready. Will be back for pizza tonight.

stay safe

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks for getting breakfast this morning.  I'm not sure what time it was, but we did get a little bit of rain sometime this morning.  The thunder did wake me up, but I didn't see any lightning (they, the weather guessers, said we got had some this morning).  It's all over now, and is even muggier than it was outside.

Everyone have a safe day, and I'll see you all later this evening, for our pizza fest.

Good morning everyone.  Temp is already at 86 here in Alamo City, with a high expected of 100 today.

Guess I'd better knock out the errands before it gets too oppressively hot.

Enjoy your Saturday!

87, sunny, and a bit humid here in WI.  Loram has been working on CN's mainline so activity has been sparse today so far.  May pick up later.  Off to mow the lawn, weed the garden, edge the sidewalk, dishes, and then vacuum.  Then trackside to see if anything interesting comes by.

Okey dokey, Mookie and everyone else:  our Saturday Night Pizza Fest is now underway.  On tonight's menu:

1.  Cheese

2.  Chicago deep dish style

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawiian

5.  Italian Sausage

6.  Pepperoni/mushroom

7.  Pepperoni/mushroom/sausage

8.  Supreme

And there is plenty of ice cream (lots of chocolate ice cream, too) for dessert tonight, along with some more brownies.

I'm not sure what our temp got up to today, but it is definitely hot and very  muggy outside.  Although, we do have a surprising semi-cool breeze coming up from the south.  The weather radio has gone off several times.  All the t-storm warnings are to the north east of us, heading south/southeast, so guess we may not see any rain in our area tonight.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas and ice cream, have a good, cool evening, and you all take care.

I'm with Dan!  Pizza is always good!

Looks like the Chicken is stirring up a fuss to the west of us.  Sending showers our way!  Nothing too exciting, so will wring out a little and pass it on!

Mooks:

All we got was wind and virga. 102 today at Hugo. The ground was so hot we were using empty cardboard boxes to kneel on the ground and put our monuments in between Hugo and Clifford. The railroad (Uncle Pete's KP line/ Salina Sub.)came to a stop out there because of rail rising in the plates (an "almost" sunkink). Track forces were out patrolling the overheated track. Working between Clifford and Boyero tomorrow - hoping that Mr. Sun gets some clouds to cool things off.

Cattle here were hiding in the culverts under US-40. The echos and racket had to be heard. (a really bad 22 part harmony?)

Going home late Monday morning and going to hide in the AC of the master nestroom hangin' with da boyz inspecting my eyelids and re-hydrating.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Mudchicken, it's good that you were able to drop in and visit for a few!  Take care, being out in that heat!  And that goes for everyone else around here, too!!!!!!

Coffee, juices , etc., are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and a selection of fresh fruits.

Enjoy your breakfast, keep cool, and take care on your outings, or whatever you have planned for today.

okay how about some pizza for breakfast?? It was warm in the corn city but we had some breeze and stayed in the shade.Mother nature provided a shower to help cool us off at suppertime.More new friends were made for sure.We needed a little less rust and a little more light when q 507 finally got to roll south at Deshler. There was a re-stenciled "spercerville and elgin" grain car on the end of q 507.We did see 2 former Katy cars go north on Q 512.Cw thanks for breakfast. We'll take some ice cream this afternoon.

stay safe

60 mph winds and some rain overnite.  Slept thru that and a power outage of about 45 min.  (Tree fell on line close by)  Still very humid, so no real relief forecast.  But should stay around 90, which is not too bad.

Sir C - if you are nesting with da boyz, you better turn AC down a lot - I bet they are warm little bodies!  And don't forget, pets sleep horizontally, not vertically.

Another kick-back day - will try to catch a few trains around noon, but not for long.

It does feel like an oven outside, doesn't it?  We've pretty much stayed inside the house so far today.  Too muggy out.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Beef noodles w/your choice of the following veggies:  broccoli, brussels sprouts, green beans, corn (there's white and yellow corn, both), cauliflower and mashed potatoes w/butter

2.  Tuna melt casserole w/Italian bread and garden salad, along with any of the above mentioned veggies.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, keep safe, cool and take care.

We ran the rapids of the Kickapoo river in Wisconsin yesterday in a canoe. The weather was perfect. Then we enjoyed a family picnic today near Madison. We watched a BNSF emerge from the tunnel and cross the Missip in Dubuque. Later!

Whew, what a week, feel like I got run over by my own truck.  Think part of it may be the heat, though.  Have run the truck almost every night this past week to stay cool, idle laws not withstanding (I hate New York's idle law).

Well, off to the sleeper again, see everyone later.....

Well, after a rocky start this morning (something about water in a cylinder of our current F unit - never a good thing), we finally got running and did our afternoon trips.  Then we had to add two cars to the consist in preparation for the "train robberies" on Wednesday.  Long day on the railroad.

Any of that ice cream left?

We watched a BNSF emerge from the tunnel and cross the Missip in Dubuque.

BNSF crossed the river?  That's CNIC's track- I wonder what that was about.  Was it a coal consist?  I think there is a coal unit train that runs across to Waterloo and points west.

Good Monday morning, all.  We currently have 76 very muggy degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Going for a high of 94.  Yuck!

Coffee, juices, etc., are fresh and ready to go.  Usual breakfast items are on the warmer/serving station.

Everyone have a good morning, if there are any requests for lunch/supper, just let me know.  Keep safe and cool.
