I'm looking forward to our Friday Euchre games tonight. We missed a couple of weeks because of softball games..... I saw this field the other day. Is this crop designed for human consumption?

Good Saturday morning, folks! It looks like we're going to have a gorgeous day in store. Current temp is 76 degrees, going for a high in the mid to upper 80s, with less humidity. Larry, I too have to watch fried foods right now, and two of my favorite meals are off limits right now, due to my high cholesterol levels: beef liver and chicken liver. Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. On the warmer/serving station this morning: Bagels, Bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/gravy, and an assortment of fresh fruit. Everyone have a very good day, and I'll see you back here tonight for our Pizza Fest.

Morning from WI.  Sunny & 72 with not much humidity (for a change) so it's nice.  Off to start what may be the long process of changing careers.  Back with maybe a trip report, pics of Aedan (I promise!), and for some pizza later.

Bllleeechhh!  I'd have no problem staying away from them, but the other fried stuff is my downfall.  I've been doing my best to stay away from it all lately, and am now about 35 pounds below my peak from two months ago.  No more beer belly... just need to get rid of the double chin.

Good Morning everyone.  Currently 82 and sunny with some high cloudiness here in Alamo City.  Expected high today is 89.  Looks like we'll be in a drier period for this upcoming week.  We need a respite from the rain.  Especially down in the valley/border areas...they have been hit hard with flooding.

Its also affected UP operations down to the border areas as well (Laredo, Eagle Pass, Del Rio).

Enjoy your Saturday!

Way to go Brian!! Four months ago my cholesterol shot way up. Doc prescribed some pills but I did not take them. Sis gave me some "Omega3-6-9" and I had to give up my favorite home-made hash browns. My levels snapped right back right to the top of the safe range. I lost 5 pounds but that doesn't show.

....Our Saturday is warmer than we thought it was to be......High 80's and still some humidity.  Glad we didn't open up the windows this morning as the weather people were telling us {last evening}, we'd have much lower humidity today.  Bright sunshine too, so it's still rather warm out there.

But almost warmer than that, is the project I've been on today, to satisfy our Cable Co.

By September we're told we must install this {supplied}, equipment or we'll not receive TV on any of our TV's....

That has been really surprising to me.  Our units are both digital flat screen units, and now we will {I just did}, install a digital receiver on the family room unit, and what they ID as a DTA for the bedroom unit.

Have to wait 20 min. or so yet to do any checking out of the operation.....They are both playing now as I type.  {Will take that long for full activation}.....

I do not understand why we will be needing these added "boxes" in series with our already digital TV's.....My idea is....this is going to make "on demand".....movies, and whatever else available so they can update their cash inflow.  The new equipment did not cost us anything....and it remains the property of the cable co.

But it's the mess screwing around intigrating this stuff into our system that erks me.....So that's been my project for today.  More connections.....coax...several new boxes....Had to purchase a new surge protecter / power strip to get all this accomplished in the bedroom....

They indicate more channels on the family room unit.....and more clear pic. and clearier audio....Thought HD already did that......??  One thing is welcome, we're to receive 45 channels of "music".....If that comes out ok, maybe I could drop my XM premium coming thru our stereo system.....Who knows, guess we'll find out.

Q,

For best TV reception make sure your TV is on to the show/channel you want to watch and then get busy doing something important.  Picture and sound will come in crystal clear.  Attempt to relax and you'll get snow (on the screen at least).  That's how it goes here sometimes...

Back with baby pictures as promised.

Aedan swimming at a hotel pool:

Aedan with a Mohawk:

Aedan at his 1st Birthday Party:

Aedan eating cake at his party:

It's amazing to see him now versus a year ago.

I was going to put some more grass seed and sod down to finish off the revamp of the back yard...but the severe thunderstorms we've had put the kibosh on that.  I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow.  Pepperoni and Sausage will be my 'request' and I'll take a cold Mt. Dew to wash it down.

Back to prepping for my upcoming field trips later this week.

Q - ohmigosh - you had those "ears" too?  Laugh

Dan - see Aedan had his party in his "man room"!

Joe - watched a junk train come in with 11 motors (all BNSF and all kinds) on the head end.  They must have been out "collecting" - they had a little of everything.

Dan.....After installing these {required} digital units today, I now have lost 6 or 7 HD channels.......Not too happy of a camper now.  Still have both of the remotes to program yet, so can't say much yet, but after I do so, and it's still as it is now.....#+@!

Remember the kinder gentler days...then you had the TV man come with your new "television set" (actually considered a piece of furniture) and he did all the installation and set up????

Murry, yes I understand what you are saying.....Guess Dad and I were a bit anxious as we drove 20 mi. to purchase our first TV...{An Air-King brand by the way}, A 10" console model.

Our home {in Western Pennsylvania}, was not in flat country and we errected a 54' tower and installed  "double stacked" all channel antennas on top and had to run 300' of 300 ohm line down to the house.  We had to do all this to get enough signal to pull in channel 3 WDTV {The Dumont TV Network}, in Pittsburgh, 68 mi. away with Laural Hill mountain between us.....I'm amazed {now}, we even got a signal back in those days.....running all that line, etc.....Of course it was not a perfect pic., by any means, but we did get a pic. and it was the only channel available until about a year later when Johnstown channel 6 WJACTV came on the air which was just 20 mi. distant.  Just a bit of TV trivia......Cool

We had a Dumont television set in our house as a kid growing up......in New Jersey we had decent TV reception.  I do understand what it was like in the mountains...My cousins in northern Vermont had to battle with reception issues.

Only one "train" today - a faux trolley in the big French Festival parade.  Pretty good crowd, but down a bit from last year, methinks.  The fireworks left a little to be desired, though.

Sunday it's back on the train, filling an empty conductor's slot.

At least the weather has gotten a little milder.  Although the sun was out in abundance, the heat at the French Festival wasn't oppressive, and there was a bit of a breeze.

Time for bed.

77 on the mirror at Crawfordsville, IN, with a touch of humidity.  Have been running the truck often lately to stay cool.

Has been an interesting week, compounded by a change in blood pressure medication, have to make sure I can get to a restroom often now.  makes life interesting.......

Time to crawl into sleeper and go to bed......

The good old days of radio--two or three radios in the house, one of which had a TRF circuit; the others did have superheterodyne circuits (all AM only). The radio combo had a naval aircraft receiver (standard broadcast band plus several shortwave bands) and a 78 rpm record player. It was good for getting the exact time from WWV. No worries about snow or such or having to pay more to get more stations. White's Radio Log listed all commercial stations around the world; many in eastern Canada had their transmitters at Sackville, N. S.

Last night, I turned the swamp cooler on for the first time this week.

Dan, nice pictures of Aedan. Who's that in the background in his party room?

Smile  Bob, nice looki'n greenery. That looks like the greenery at Sunset Point on I17 , until it dried out. Now today at bout 3:pm a flatlander tossed a cigarett out the window. As of 5:pm  300 acres up in smoke. Several fire companys  are there .  The Air Boss maybe will call for  air tanker or  : droop snoot"  chopper for daylight  ops. Until then the ground crews are doing their best. The fire is 9mi. from our place on the ridgeline. There is no homes  in the line of the fire.  The ( newsies) are still at a loss where it is at. Guess it is hard to see from the nice cool studio. HEH  HEH .    Jim

Yes, many radios had multi bands included, and made for some interesting dial twisting.

I even had a little "crystal" set as a teenager, and remember one night I actually picked up Kearny, Ne., and that was from western Pennsylvania.

Good Sunday morning, all.  Joe, thanks for making such a good breakfast.  Have my coffee, think I'll take a cinnamon roll, and some fresh fruit.  I know what you mean, about the Reds finding their hitting shoes:  If we have the game on, and watching, they do pretty good; if we don't have the TV on the game, they lose.  But, what can you do.  Sometimes you have to miss a televised game, due to other activities going on.

We have a temp in the mid 70s this morning, going for a high around 92 this afternoon, with the humidity creeping back up.  I think I even heard that we have a chance for some rain/storms coming in later tonight, into tomorrow.  We could really use the rain, though.

You all have a very good morning, keep cool and hydrated and take care.

Hello America, I'm back. I determined that I had been hacked and had to format and reinstall everything. Things are still in a state of flux, so bear with me. If anyone can help find the XP utility for changing the drive letters, I would be most obliged. I tried disk management, but it didn't list the CD player, which is what needs to be changed.

Still working on the computer, so be back later

Afternoon all, I'm back in with our Sunday Dinner menu:

Chuck roast w/potatoes, carrots & a couple of onion cut up in with it, and we'll have corn on the cob, and garden salad.

Dessert:  your choice of the following cobblers:  blackberry, raspberry or blueberry.  If that doesn't whet your whistle, there's yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and strawberry shortcake w/your choice of Redi-Whip or Cool Whip topping. (Sorry, but I'm fresh out of real cream to go with the strawberries.)

Everyone enjoy, have a great afternoon, and take care.
