Speaking of meatloaf, it was always one of my Dad's favorite dishes and I used to turn my nose up at it when I was a lot younger. I have since then learned that left-over meat loaf really makes a good sandwhich when it is cold.

I had some nice asparagus with my wild musroom strudel dinner at the Grand Hotel tonight. It did not need any kind of sauce, not even mayonaise.

Not yet; we arrived yesterday afternoon and spent time getting settled in our room. We expect to traverse it today; if you do not hear from me, sent a search party.

Ricki had forgotten that automobiles are not allowed, and was surprised to see horse-drawn taxis.

[Edit:add] It is supposed to be much cooler here than on the mainland.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  We have 73 degrees this morning, and the sun is shining brightly.  Supposed to 'only' get to 89 degrees today.

Johnny, sounds like you and Ricki are really enjoying your trip!!  Keep safe, you two!

Coffee, juices and other morning bevrages are fresh and ready to go.  Mudchicken, there's even plenty of the blue Gatorade for you, along with several other flavors.  And, of course, there's hot water for Larry's and Tom's hot tea.

On the serving station this morning:  blueberry pancakes, bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy.

Mookie, would you like to meet out in the garden, and we'll sit in our rockers and watch the trains going by.

Paula, we are really enjoying the trip. This is the third historic hotel we have stayed in this trip--we spent a night at The Greenbrier and a night at the Stonewall Jackson (in Staunton (STANTn), Va.. My grandfather served under General Jackson from the Seven Days Battle until Chancellorsville (where General Jackson was mortally wounded), so I especially was pleased to stay there.

Actually, our room looks out on Lake Huron, not on the Straits.

In a few minutes, we will make our safari on the front porch of the hotel.

Johnny, I have a picture of Thomas Jackson and General Lee over the head of my bed. Jackson's foot cavalry was famous for the fast marches it made.

68 degrees and overcast in Carolina, but no rain or storms forecast.

Everyone take care

Barbara & I are off to Wisconsin this morning. My youngest nephew's guard unit is deploying very soon to the Middle East.  Two groups in Wisconsin are sewing camo quilts. We will bring back as many as they have completed and deliver them to Peoria on Friday. Here is a link to the Plymouth group.

Ricki wanted to check her mail, so we have not yet ventured out. If you do not hear from us, send Mr. Stanley to look for us.

.....Those out there on vacation trips...Enjoy.   Here, earlier this morning we started out with 70 degrees, so that means around 90 again for today.

Extreme dew on the grass in the morning allows moisture for it's continued growth.....I'm still mowing every 3 or 4 days.  But it looks nice.

I'm guessing our trip back to the Pennsylvania home land this holliday long weekend, will possibly provide a bit of relief from this high hum. / heat here.  {More elevation}.

Trivia:  For those "home gardners"....hence, lawn care...out there who might be in the market for a home utility trimmer / edger, my experience with the brand Workx  has been really good.  Purchased one this Spring, and after becoming familiar with it, it starts falling in place and really does a good job...Strong 18v rechargeable battery has plenty of power / and time in use before needing recharging....Watch the price though....I've found it between $119.....and.....$99 dolllars.....Rural King store here in Muncie was on the low end.....{But already had mine when I found that price}...Recharge time:  one hour.

Mr. Stanley may rest easily; we have made it back. We had a long conversation with a young couple who live near Ann Arbor.

Yesterday, on our way to St. Ignace from Lansing, we stopped at Burt Lake to see if we could find the "cottage," as her grandparents, who then owned it, called it, on the lake shore where Ricki had spend some time when she was a little girl. We found it, with the help of a local couple who had a book that listed the former owners of each house and also showed which house had burned or had  been demolished as of the date of publication. She was not able to see it from where we had to park because of her mobility difficulties, but I took several pictures of it.

 Lunch at noon.

Johnny and Ricki, glad to know you're enjoying your trip!

I'm not feeling too well today, so I've made a light lunch for this afternoon:

You have your choice of tuna salad sandwiches, PB&J, cold roast beef or turkey sandwiches w/chips.

Supper tonight will be:  Italian spaghetti w/Italian bread and garden salad.

See you all later.

Johnny, I am glad yall are enjoying the trip and Ricki touched base with her roots. My early years were spent near here and I think about the old place often. The house is unoccupied and probably is going into decline. There is a huge live oak in the front yard that is probably several hundred years old. Ah, the memories.

Paula, I hope you feel better soon. I haven't felt too well either, but that's not unusual.

Everyone take care

Tom

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  A muggy 71 degrees here in Louisville this morning, with a high today in the upper 80s, and possible scattered showers.

Tom, thanks for your kind words.  I hope you are doing better each day.  As for me, feeling better this morning.  Wondering if my bout yesterday wasn't due to the air quality alert we had for yesterday.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station:  bagels, bear claws and the usual breakfast menu items.

Everyone take care, and I'll see you all again later on.

Paula, I am glad you are feeling better today.

Last night, I had mushroom and eggplant soup with my dinner. I depend on the cook's veracity as to the eggplant (I did not taste any), but it definitely had mushrooms in it.

I just looked out the window at Lake Huron; it looks as good as it did when we arrived.

Tom, I hope that we will be able to get back to my home town next year; it may depend upon Ricki's ability to travel.

.....Still heat and humidity.  2 degrees warmer to start our day than yesterday, so if no thunderstorms.....that must mean breaking the 90 barrier again.....Just rather unseasonal....A bit early.

Afternoon all.....

98 in Perrysburg, OH, on the mirror, so it's about 88 or so actual outside.  Sorry Larry, I stopped in Watertown last night, but was unable to contact (no internet access).  Headed to Wisconsin for tomorrow morning, then to buy a new computer mouse (old one just died).

Well, see everyone later....

Been home about an hour, from running a couple of errands this morning:  bank and grocery.  Neither of the errands took any time at all:  the wait for buses was.  And a couple of the bus stops had no place for anyone to sit down, whether it be an actual bus shelter, or just benches for you to be able to sit.

Lunch and supper will be Semi Chinese:  as in fried rice in the following :

1.  Beef

2.  Chicken

3.  Pork

4.  Shrimp

7.  Special (with all the top 4 added to the rice)

Everyone enjoy, have a good afternoon, stay as cool as possible, and take care.

And any of you planning on traveling over the long holiday weekend, please take care and be safe.

Back in Denver. Tour de NE-IA-IL-MO-KS now complete. Mooks - temperature and humidity are dropping, ...safe to come out now as the fur no longer gets stuck to the Naugahide seats. Lurch had a steady diet of Bugz.(Attack of the Killer Windshield, Part II)

Sir C - always glad to hear that you are back safely.  Heard they "hailed" Denver a day or so ago.  Nice time to have Lurch out-of-town.  Around 85 all weekend, so can't complain here.  Driver fishing every day.  The bass are cheap entertainment.

Scrape and save bugs - for birdy supper?  Approve

Hail all went well to the north side of Denver (and north of CopCar at Concrete Madness, Inc.). We didn't even get wet at the house. Quite a light show driving into town last night with plenty of water standing in the fields. Many places still can't plant corn. It's emerald green out on the prairie right now (won't last long, brown will return quickly)...

Da' Boyz will be indignant within hours. They get "poofed" today. (Bath & summer haircut at the groomer - can they use that surplus fur as material for an oil boom? Gus' beard can absorb enough water equal to Lake Erie in one trip to the water bowl!)

Sitting on perch, eyeing Sonic across the freeway for lunch. Gotta get them to install a fly-thu on the roof.

Different places, different situations:  Corn in the fields will easily be one foot high by weekend.  No wonder......heat and humidity.
