Stay away from the spaghetti bowl and nobody in he diner gets hurt!DinnerDinnerDinner

And, if you stay away from Salt Lake City's Spaghetti Bowl (Two interstates, one state highway, and several street off and on ramps) you are less apt to get hurt.

Whew!  Busy weekend!

We "detailed" and installed the sound system in our primary pax car, did some work on the camp car to make it habitable for the season, painted/stained some picnic tables, got the flag put back up on the train order signal mast, and generally cleaned.

I drove home on autopilot.

I'm pooped.  Time for bed.

has the gatorade truck rolled in yet??

Good Monday morning, everyone.  73 degrees this morning, here in Louisville.  High  today will be "89", but I'm thinking we'll probably see at least 90 degrees this afternoon.  Very uncomfortable night sleeping last night, even with the ceiling fan on in the bedroom, along with another fan on the floor.

Yes, Joe, the Gatorade truck rolled in two weeks ago.  We have plenty of Gatorade on hand!!

Coffee, juices are fresh & ready to go, along with cold Gatorade, iced tea (sweet & unsweet), cold milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, and, of course, there's hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

Well, I watched the series finale of Lost last night.  Did any of you watch it last night?

Our 'next door neighbor' finally got out of the nursing/rehab center yesterday.  Walt and I were out on the porch, and saw them take her out of the ambulance.  For right now, she is across the street at her sister-in-law's house.  Guess they decided to keep both of them over there, and take care of the two of them together.  Her sister-in-law has Alzheimers, and I think it'll be easier for our neighbor's two daughters to have them both together, so that they aren't going back and forth across the street, caring for them.

Everyone have a good morning, stay as cool as you can, and you all take care.

Barbara & I only missed one episode in 6 years. So last night was special. We watched all 4 & a half hours. It was a great show. Did you like the ending?

CW - it is a very humid humidity.  Fans just moved the air around and not much cooling going on at all.

Tree - take care.  Retirement ain't for sissies, either!

Unless I saw the opening credits, I wouldn't even know I was watching it.  Never saw any part of a single episode.

I'm sure my daughter is in mourning, though.  She loved the show.

Off to the day's hot projects.   Looks to be a nice one, already over 70.

It's going to get a little hot and sticky here in Sioux Falls for the next few days, our temp is supposed to top out at 86 degrees this afternoon, and right now the humidity is at about 42%.

Meanwhile, I can not get my central air conditioning system to run, and my brother-in-law had installed it for me about 10 years ago. Right now he and my sister are down in Jamaica for their son's wedding, so I will have to wait until they get home. But, I can survive all this, as I've got two fans in my basement and a ceiling fan in my bedroom.

Summer heat is among us....almost too quick.  Humidity along with it.  75% already this morning.  Sunshine too.

Grass, shrubs....are growing like Kudzu.....!  Looks like it is to continue this week and just a bit of lower temps by weekend.  Hope it's dry too, as we're trying to head out east for the holiday.  Looks now like we might actually have basic dry weather, but the forecast can change by then.....

That holiday can be a bit cool out there, but not always...Elevation 2,000'.

400 mi. due east to go....

Trivia:  So must gain 1050' from here to there.  Hmmm, what avg. grade is that...?  Is it.000072 %, if so, would make a good avg. RR grade if it was constant, but it's really not.  Have to ascend a leg of the Alleghenies rather quickly up and part way back down....over about 30 mi.  {That part would not make a good RR grade}.  But thinking about that, it actually was to be a RR grade {generally}, 125 years ago.  That is, using the Pennsylvania Turnpike to top the Laurel Hill Mountain.

Mookie, you're absolutely right about the humid humidity!  Also, there was no cooling going on.  It made for a very uncomfortable night of trying to sleep.

And, since it's so warm and everything, how about some cool dishes for today?  Here's this afternoon and evening menu:

1.  Tuna salad sandwiches

2.  BLTs

3.  Vichysoise soup

And you can have chips and garden salad also.

I'm off to see what I can get into, that will keep me half way cool.

Bob - how about gazpacho - just like it looks.  I am going to assume you have had it, but if not, if you  like tomatos and veggies - served cold.  Very, very good.  Like chunky V-8.

CW - try on a cool bath?  Approve

Good afternoon. I had a midmorning appointment at the Drs orifice to find out the results of my tests two weeks ago. This, it turned out, was something that could have been done over the fone, but they don't charge for fone consultations, hence the orifice visit was required! Everything was negative, PTL, including my bank account(sobb), so I have much to be thankful for. Afterwards, we stopped at a local eatery and got some beef stew for lunch. Made the outing worthwhile.

73 and cloudy, expecting several thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. Can't hook up the wireless till that passes.

Everyone take care

Tom

It's OK as long as it isn't raining and your not sitting in an outdoor cafe.   Then you'll never finish it...

Evening everyone.....

77 outside right now at exit 28 on I-71 in Kentucky, will probably be letting the truck run tonight for air conditioning, pretty humid out.  Heading Larry's way with A/C parts, guess they need them.  Memphis got clobbered this afternoon with storms, just made it out of there before the spit hit the spam.

Well, off to bed......

Murray

Yes, Murray...they were great.  Had a special friend that worked at one of them.  All the original restaurants on the "original" 160 mi. Pennsy Turnpike were Howard Johnson's.  {Opened Oct. 1st. 1940}.

What a far cry from those back then compared to now...Fast food, plastic, etc.....

Midway Station was near Bedford, Pa., and it was a special one....larger than the others and really pretty nice.  Midway along the original mileage, hence the name.

Trivia:  The route the Turnpike follows {roughly}, was to be the South Penn Railroad....Construction was stopped in 1885....Bought out by competitor Pennsy.  Some of the ROW was built....and lots of it is still visible where it was not covered by the Turnpike.  Max. grade proposed: 2%.

The Roanoke cam came back online last night. Seems gone again, tho.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Tom, glad to know that everything checked out A-OK for you!!

I guess I needed the extra sleep, since I just woke up at 6:01.  But I sure don't feel like I got any good rest overnight:  I'm tired as can be.

Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy Birthday to our very own Kathi Kube today!  Kat, hope it is a very good day for you, with many, many happy returns!!

Coffee is on, juices are freshly made, and our other morning beverages are ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  our regular breakfast menu, including the bagels and bear claws.

Randy, sounds like you came by our neck of the woods last night!  Have a very safe trip north today.

I guess I'll see you all later.  Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

......if BP does not reach success with latest effort to cap...stop the uncontrolled oil flow, etc.....I believe our government should, in a legal manner....take over the project {of stopping the oil flow}.  Create a "Manhattan" like project.  Find and bring in experts {wherever they must come from....and the same with equipment}, and go all out to get this emercency situation under control.

The consequences seem too great to rely on "someone else" to prevent such damage to our economy and people.

You are so very right, Quentin:  something needs to be done, and it needs to be done now

Produce went well this morning.  The truck arrived about 8:40, and I was back home before 9:30.  We had 65, 67 people this morning.  They brought potatoes, sweet potatoes, cabbage, bags of kale and other greens, and gallon jugs of sweetened iced tea w/lemon juice in it.

I have our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta ready and on the serving station:

1.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean and beef enchilada style)

2.  Tacos (soft shell and hard shell)

3.  Spanish rice

4.  Chimichangas

5.  Fajitas

6.  Chipotle chicken wraps

7.  6 oz. sirloin steaks

8.  Sour cream chicken enchiladas

I hope everyone enjoys, and also hope you all stay cool this afternoon.  Looks like summer has come about  3 weeks early, so guess we're definitely in for a Long, Hot Summer.

Cooler here today.  Will pass it on to the right.

CW - in an endeavor to increase my culinary skills, I have been watching a nest box.  Seems that when you decide the "meat" for the meal, you pull all the fur off it.  Just toss it on the floor.  Maybe make something out of it later.

Then rip the meat into pieces and be sure to stand on it all the while, so it doesn't slip out of your grasp!

Reminds me of something I've heard of being done in firehouses when there's a brand-spanking new rookie.  Serve meatloaf - and plant dog food cans in the trash....
