Willie - happened to be partially awake when saw 2 flashes of lightning and maybe a little thunder above the roar of the snore.  Nice, very nice!

Still the potential for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon. I'm still concerned that the clouds we have now will hold down instability, but this is a dynamic spring storm system, so it doesn't necessarily need a lot of instability to produce thunderstorms.

Glad you're enjoying the weather, Mudchicken. I'm just practicing all of the new skills I've learned this year. Evil

Quentin: Have you been watching the Roanoke cam today? It's been pretty busy, from what I've seen.

Quentin, it does not blink, but is like a motion detector or something similar.

Tom:

Again, last evening, I turned back to the Roanoke cam several times and found the "light" on sometimes, and off at other times that I clicked to go back and take a look.  Doesn't seem to be any regularity to it....??  Have no idea what it might be  I believe the interstate is over in that direction, but don't know what kind of light there would cycle as this does....

Quite a few freight trains east and west on that cam last evening....

Joe & Q - wrote an ode for you in my sleep - "gentle rain arrived overnite.  Pulled all leaves of grass out of clay ground.  Washed them off and made them tall.  Putting out a call for all mowers!"

Jen:  Weather noise on TV.....but radar shows it will cross Indiana thru the southern half.....We're in the middle, roughly.  So may not see much or any here.  Nice this morning, but a bit on the cool side....62.1 now....seems to be rising rather quickly.  42 earlier, when I first looked as I took the pup out.

Your mention of shoes bring me to mention trivia;

Wearing each day now, Rockports that I had in the box {new}, for 5 years....!

Still have another pair of Rockports {a bit different, but new}, that are still in the box after about 7 years....!   Seems all this goes along with the pace....Once had an FM antenna still in box after 5 years, and then installed it....!

Sir C - head this way.  First aid, Kool-aid or Gatorade needed for Driver.  Sharp knife + finger = ugly manicure, all for the sake of chopped parsley.  Bring 1/3 nail for finger, the important one - the one you talk with....!  Hope we can get thru about 10 more work days with all appendages intact.

Backache pretty much gone.  Changed everything I could think of including the weather.  Seems to have moved up to head, which is easily remedied.  Helpful hint - if you have unexplained knee, back or neck issues, look to simple things - chair (they sag after about the 1st month) pillows - change em, shoes - don't wear until they look like a teenage boys and bed - get a good quality one.  Especially if it takes you all day to work out the kinks and it's time for bed again.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Tom you were an early bird this morning.  Hope you and your Mrs. enjoy your late morning, afternoon of shopping.  We're getting some light rain this morning, so no one knows yet if the Rush Hour Balloon Race will be a go or a dud yet.  Have a current temp in the low 60s, should see a high in the low to mid 70s, even with a chance of some thunder showers, later this morning, and then again tonight, when they're supposed to have the Balloon Glow tonight.

My Therapy session is scheduled for 11:15 this morning (acutal appontment time, although with the transportation co., I told them my appointment was at 11, so I could actually be there on time).

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, along with plenty of hot water for our tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning, is a variety of fresh fruit, along with bagels, bear claws and a selection of dougnuts, danish, and muffins.

I have tuna salad made for lunch today, and after I get home from PT, I'll be starting the cooking, frying for our Friday Fish Fry.

Everyone have a good morning, stay as dry as possible, if you're getting the rain, be safe and take care.

Peace be with you. I am either up early or up late, take your choice. I am gonna hit the rack in a few minutes and won't be here in the morning. The wife and I are going to the Cracker Barrel for lunch and then do some shopping and won't be back until the afternoon. Everyone take care and have a great day

And the serving station has been replenished for everyone else.

Everyone take care, and have a good evening.

The one I'm curently reading is Underdog.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here!

Good afternoon. I woke up with a headache again and have been lying down. We need a real gully washer to get rid of this pollen. The lawn guy showed up yesterday and stirred up things a mite, and now it's miserable out.

Yall can keep the hail. Just send us some rain!

We had interesting weather around here yesterday, what with scattered storms here and there. Some places had rain in the morning, but we had none around where we live until in the afternoon. Also, there were fierce winds in two or three canyons, and at least one man had windows broken by hail as he was driving in one of the canyons.

Maybe spring will come to stay in two or three days. The *** willows are leaving out ("To ope their trunks, the trees are never seen. How, then, do they put on their robes of green? They leave them out"). The maple is putting its catkins out (the *** willows did that several days ago). Apple, and other, trees are blossoming. The hyacinth blooms have faded.

Mookie, I'm glad at least you enjoyed the selection of fruit this morning!  (Well, other me moi.)  I seem to have an abundance of apples, so maybe I'll get my bootie in gear, and make an apple pie for dessert tonight.

The menu for the rest of the day:

1.  Roast beef w/mashed taters, gravy, green beans, corn, your choice of garden salad or cole slaw, and your choice of biscuits, dinner rolls or cornbread.

2.  Barbecued country back bone ribs (the ones without the bones in them, they're all meat), with your choice of the above mentioned sides.

Have any of you ever read any of the books by Laurien Berensen?  They're murder mysteries that take place at/around dog shows.  Those are soooooo good!  The first book of her series is A Pedigree to Die for.  The one I'm curently reading is Underdog.

Everyone enjoy your meal, and the afternoon.  Take care, and see you all later.

ooo - Cw - I am going to sit really close to the breakfast bar this am.  All that fruit sounds good to me!  Maybe I am thirsty.

Sir C - Hail, no!  Keep it there.  Millie is out today for what is getting close to the last day of work.  I don't want her dented in the next 2 weeks.  She will be safe in her garage after that and then the hail can come.

Got a backache.  Never have a backache.  So investigating the possibilities - 2 suspect chairs and may have to turn the mattress.  Also checking out shoes.  Will get to the bottom of this!

Off to check the webcam and see what all the fuss is about.  I have yet to see more than one train and no signals.  Must study this a little closer.  Maybe it is because I am always on the Netherland's cam.  Action and noise both.

Later...

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  We currently have a temp of 50 degrees, going for a high of 71, with chance of rain showers this afternoon/evening.  Just in time to probably wash out the balloons preview tonight, a mini balloon race in the morning, and the balloon glow tomorrow night.  Saturday, for the Balloon Race itself, it'll probably be too breezy/windy for the balloons to take off.

Coffee, juices and the rest of the morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, including hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning:  pineapple chunks, watermelon chunks, papaya, kiwi, bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy.

Everyone have a very good morning, and I'll see you all again after awhile.  Take care.

Not blinking, just steady.

Quentin, it does not blink, but is like a motion detector or something similar. I have noticed, tho, that sometimes it switches off abruptly, and other times, will simply dim out. Guess we never will know what the thing is or where it is.

The light is situated at the far left top of the brick one. It was shining at 3:05 pm this afternoon for several minutes.

.....Ok Tom.....Saw the light come on at 7:43 pm EDT.  Was watching an eastbound covered hopper train and just as it passed, I noted the light come on.  Not blinking, just steady.

What a beautiful day....!  Sunny and mild temps.....and no humidity to mess with {like we will later}.  No A/C to mess with....Windows open.....Sure would be perfect to have weather like this year around.

Another yard mowing and cleanup......Jean planted some flowers.  Got some of my tools in better order on the peg board....

Edit:  And another open hopper {empty}, train westbound at 8:13 pm.

And Tom....The light is out at the above time now...

Edit:  Two engines just passed {8:31}, and no ditch lights burning....

PT went pretty good, although I learned three new exercises today, that deal with strengthening the back.  One of those, I don't like at all, but I'll do it anyway.

Mudchicken, sounds like you've about had with said hail.  I hope you haven't had any softball size hail.  That would really hurt!

Supper tonight:  A mixed medley of things:

1.  Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad

2.  Meat loaf, green beans, corn on the cob and mashed taters w/gravy and garden salad

3.  Tacos and chimichangas

Everyone enjoy and have a good evening.  Take care!

Ok Tom....I'll be looking again.  I have just turned to the cam twice in the last 10 min. and saw a train each time.  First one:  open hopper {emptys}, heading west, and just now: a double stack train east bound.

I looked for the light you mentioned, but could not find it.

Quentin, if you look at the signals on the near cantilever, you will be able to find the light. Directly above the right pair, and showing above the parking garage, you will see two structures, one light grey and the other red brick to the right of it. The light is situated at the far left top of the brick one. It was shining at 3:05 pm this afternoon for several minutes. Regarding the pair of three tier signals, I have seen the top showing yellow as a train approaches changing to red as the engine passes. The far cantilever signals show green from time to time. HTH

To those of you who live within a day's journey to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, our local HO scale railroad club, the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society will be hosting an open house out at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. We are more or less located in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, and behind the old national guard armory.

We have one of the best railroad club layouts in this region of the country and it fills a space of 30' x 50'. Our operating hours for Saturday, I think will be from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, same hours for Sunday, although I should have written the figures down to be fully accurate!

Otherwise, our next open house will take place during the week of the Sioux Empire Fair in August.

Been watching the Roarnoke railcam, and have pinpointed the source of one of the on again/off again lights. It is still doing it after sunrise. Maybe the cloudy weather makes it more noticeable.

Tom....I looked for the light you mentioned, but could not find it.  I looked especially after dark.  Wonder why we never see the two staff's with each carrying 3 red railroad signal lights change....They seem to always be red.....{Over to the upper right of the pic.}

Great Western

The radiator of the car looks, to my memory, rather like that of a Triumph car, most likely the Mayflower.  They were unusual in being very angular and consequently costly in terms of machinery to build.  There was a larger, more expensive version called The Renown.

Look them up on Google:  very interesting cars, made in Coventry, England.

Thank you for the reply. You are so very right. The car is perched on a raised platform on US1, just south of Swainsboro Georgia.

Good morning, it's Wednesday. Thanks for breakfast. 55 and cloudy in Carolina an hour after sunrise. We got the majestic total of .01 inch of rain last night. I have the boat ready in case the creek rises...

Paula, I hope the PT goes well for you. Been there done that!
