We dodged a bullet about an hour ago. A tornado passed north of us, about 15 miles or so, and did a right smart of damage, along with 3 injured. Early reports say one home destroyed, a number of mobile homes upended, and an Elementary school in Darlington lost it's roof. Also in Darlington, a Walgreens was hit with unknown damage and most of the power in the south of Darlington is out. Marlboro county has sent 6 deputies in mutual aid, and here, Florence County SD is on standby. After Darlington, the funnel was seen paralelling I-95 and now, the storm is in NC. If any more news comes in tonight, I will post it here.

Evening all.....

Just got a message that I-40 through the gorge in North Carolina has been reopened, though one westbound lane will be closed all summer while crews finish bolting the mountainside back together.  Good news, because I-26 was killing me every time I went over it.....

Will take dinner, then fuel, then off to Chicago for fun and games......

Afternoon, everyone.  It's raining a little bit here right now, and the wind has died down some.

I've fixed some sloppy joes for this afternoon and tonight, and you can have with them:  garden salad, your choice of fries or Bob Evans home fries, and I've also fixed a fruit salad, consisting of apples, oranges, pineapple chunks, walnut pieces, banana slices.

For dessert, we have:  yellow cake w/chocolate icing, home made chocolate pie, homemade apple pie, and peach cobbler.  There's also plenty of ice cream (various flavors) that you can have.

Everyone have a good afternoon/evening, and guess I'll see if facebook is coorperating this afternoon.

Good afternoon. 74 and overcast in Carolina. We have had .64 inch of rain so far today, and the boffins are calling for thunderstorms tonight and early tomorrow. We still can use the rain to put an end to the pollen problem. It is noticeably better already, but more rain would help immensely. For now, take it easy and be careful.

This has been an odd tornado season so far.  Could be interesting, and not in the good sense of the term.

It's actually been a very quiet tornado season so far. Even with yesterday's outbreak, the total for the season to this point is way below normal. That really doesn't say much about the rest of the season though. May and June could also be quiet, or they could be active.

A little damp out here in Hebron, IN, this morning, off and on rain here all day.  Kind of an off day here, have an 0300 appointment at Chicago Beverage tomorrow morning, so resting up before an all-nighter.  Not much else new here, just surfing the Internet, and passing the time.

Thanks for breakfast, off to a corner booth to surf the 'net.....

Woke up about 7 and crawled back into bed.  Now that brunch is done, I can get to a few tasks before head back to the PBS station for the last night of the auction.

Sunny skies here, but cool.  We might make it into the mid sixties by the looks of it.

This has been an odd tornado season so far.  Could be interesting, and not in the good sense of the term.

.....Terrible night for tornados southwest of us headin east...{Mississippi}, with loss of life.  That was a long line of serious weather moving northeast.  It is passed even here now.

I did not hear any of it during the night, but whatever it was as it got here was to pass early in the morning.  Just a few small leaves down in the yard and my rain gauge has .45" of rain.  So I believe we were spared most of the rough stuff.  I note it is on out east of us now, part of it heading for my home State of Penna.  Just a bit of the wrap around will be in our area and that is nothing but rain.

But right now it's partly sunny and in the low 60's for temp.  So we got off very well from all the potential danger in this massive system.

Something like 10  fatilities {including 3 children}, perished in Mississippi.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Man oh man, what a night!  Light rain, heavy rain, thunder, lightning, heavy winds.  For the present, everything around here is calm.  Yesterday afternoon, in eastern Jefferson County, lightning struck a family's roof, and set the whole house afire.  Completely destroyed.  Foruntately, no one hurt or killed.

Brian, around here, I have seen people grilling on their front porches, even without it being windy or raining, just the sun shining, and on the cool side, temperature wise.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages fresh and ready to go.  Larry and Tom, there's plenty of hot water for your hot tea.  On the serving station this morning:  fresh, hot cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls, straight out of the oven.

Last night, Walt, Sarah and I watched the new DVD The Lovely Bones.  Walt and I read the book a couple of years ago.  Amazingly, the movie did not stray too far off the book.  If any of you can see the movie, I totally recommend it.  It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Everyone have a good day, and try to stay dry.  We still have a chance of rain/thunder showers for this afternoon.  But right now, we have a temp around 61, 62degrees, and the sun is shining.

Evening all- steady rain here as well.  We entertained three other couples tonight from our church, and I provided the main course for our dinner; of course I had to fix my Iowa Chops.  Managed to get them done, but not without hiding in the three seasons porch while the lightning was hitting really close.  Good thing the grill has a good lid...

I'll have to pass on the pizza tonight, having had my fill all week at the PBS station auction.  Had roast beef tonight at our FD function.

I'm bushed - been straight out all week.  Next week is looking a little better, but I've still got a full slate.  One more night of the PBS auction then on to other projects.

Later...

I'll have a medium #6 with dipping sauce with a Mountain Dew. I bought some tomato plants today and transplanted into larger containers. I'll wait for a week before putting them in the patch.
A large thunder storm passed over with very strong winds. No hail, at least not in Aledo.

Evening, everyone.  Well, we got a good shower about and hour and a  half ago.  Right now, nothing but cloudy and overcast skies.  But we are under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. EDT.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian Bacon

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Pepperoni/sausage

7.  Supreme

8.  Italian Sausage

I went up to the library at noon time, and got stuck in residual traffic (streets still closed) due to the Mini Marathon & Marathon this morning.  I had to wait almost two hours to catch my bus coming back home.  Managed to walk in the front door just after 2 p.m.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas, and have a good evening.

Good morning from Carolina. 68 and overcast this morning. Last time I checked the weather forecast, it said no rain, but methinks it may have changed since last night. We could sure use some to put down the pollen. Thanks for breakfast, Joe. I won't be in tonight since it is seafood and BBQ ribs night here. Everyone take care

Pure as the driven slush....still wet snow and now falling rocks in the intermountain west. 60 ton rock tried to fly off a hillside in the Morrison, CO area along the old South Park route(DSP&P RR) and landed in the southbound lanes of US-285.

Lots of activity at the bird feeders (harder to get at the worms under the snow)

back to work

Joe, thanks for putting breakfast together for the rest of us. I got out of bed here barely 20 minutes ago.

I got my yard mowed yesterday before it started raining here, and it rained all night here last night. We had a thunderstorm come through this region after midnight and the lightning was absolutely brilliant! KA-BOOM!!!!, KA-BOOM!!!!, KA-BOOM!!!! KA-BOOM!!!

Today is the opening day of my railroad club's open house, and I am sitting here waiting to see if any of our club members will call me and ask me if I need a ride. I choose not to drive for medical reasons. I will be going out with another one of our club members tomorrow for sure.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks so much for getting breakfast ready this morning.  Pancakes and sausage sound really good this morning!

We too, have rain this morning.  It is on the light side, but later on, we've got thunderstorms headed our way.  I have the TV on, and so far, I'm not seeing any video of balloons getting ready to take to the skies.  But, it looks like the mini marathon and marathon will be taking place.

Like Joe said, everyone stay as dry as possible.

Johnny, the exercises are helping, somewhat.  I did remember to take my pain pill this morning, so in a little bit, when I start my exercises, I'll feel better after doing them.

Modelcar

Your mention of shoes bring me to mention trivia;

Wearing each day now, Rockports that I had in the box {new}, for 5 years....!

Still have another pair of Rockports {a bit different, but new}, that are still in the box after about 7 years....!   Seems all this goes along with the pace....Once had an FM antenna still in box after 5 years, and then installed it....!

There's nothing like laying something aside when you think you might need it in the future. I think of our buying a kerosene heater about 1980 and did not need until Christmas of 2003? when a heavy snow Christmas night took care of many power lines. It was nice to have it sitting on the hearth in the living room, spreading heat and cheer.

Paula, I trust that your exercises are truly helping you.

Quentin: Have you been watching the Roanoke cam today? It's been pretty busy, from what I've seen.

Willy......Haven't been on here much since this morning....but I did see a west bound covered hopper train and to my surprise.....2 NS pushers on the rear.  I've been looking at it now back and forth for the last half hour.  No traffic yet.   But I'm sure we'll catch one soon.....

Edit:  Just caught an eastbound....A short covered hopper consist and just one engine.....8:13 EDT.

Hello everybody...after a long absence I am now able to come back to the cafe and partake in some of CW's wonderful cullinary delights. My bride has just finished getting her elderly parents into assisted living and my Mom is now settled back into her assisted living apartment and we're having an estate sale this weekend for her before putting her house on the market.  All of this, along with our son getting a new job (thank God for that) and being very, very busy at work (both my bride and me as well) have kept me away for too long, but I'm glad to be back.  Hope all has gone well in my absence.  Looking forward to being more active in the future.

Evening, everyone.  Made it back home from PT just after 1 p.m.  I must not have taken my pain med this morning, as my back has been really aching all afternoon.  Took a nap, and I just decided to take a pain pill.  Wouldn't earlier, since I could not remember if I had taken it this morning:  did not want to od.

On to important matters for a Cafe/Diner:  supper is now on the serving station.

FISH:  Cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, perch, salmon croquets, shrimp (jumbo butterfly, and popcorn),

SIDE DISHES:  Cole slaw, corn on the cob, baked beans, fries, onion rings, battered fried mushrooms, cornbread, hush puppies.

DESSERTS:  Chocolate cake w/white icing, Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, apple, cherry, peach cobblers and pecan pie.

BEVERAGES:  Soft drinks, milk, iced tea (sweet & unsweetened), Gatorade, lemonade, plus several different flavors of VitaminWater, hot tea, hot chocolate, apple cider

They did not have the Rush Hour Balloon Race this morning, since it was raining, and the winds were over 12 mph.  And if the winds and rain come in, the BalloonGlow for tonight (9 p.m.) will be held in the South Wing of the Ky. Expo Center at the Fairgrounds.  And so far, the Marathon and Mini-marathon are still a go for in the morning (runners don't particularly mind going ahead & running in the rain, storms).

Everyone have a great evening, and take care.

Doesn't seem to be any regularity to it....??  Have no idea what it might be  I believe the interstate is over in that direction, but don't know what kind of light there would cycle as this does

Quite correct, It may not be on the building I identified since it is near the top of it and may be far beyond. I guess this is something we will never really know without an onsite reconnaisence.
