Good Friday morning, everyone.  I hope everyone had a very enjoyable evening, and that your teams won last night:  I know mine did:  UK 100, ETU 71 (I think that was the score).

Our favorite team, UNI (our daughter went to college there), beat UNLV!

That dreaded four-letter word starting with S is back in our forecast for tonight- 1"-3".Grumpy

Good Friday morning, everyone.  I hope everyone had a very enjoyable evening, and that your teams won last night:  I know mine did:  UK 100, ETU 71 (I think that was the score).

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.

On the warmer/serving staion:  bagels, bear claws and a small assortment of doughnuts and danish, along with bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy.

We currently have a temp of 48, going for a high of 71 today, with plenty of sunshine.  Today is the last day of winter!!  Unfortunately, Satuday Night or Sunday night, we're to get a little bit of winter weather back.  Hopefully, it won't amount to much.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a very good morning, be safe and take care.

....Here at the homestead....the mole score is:  Quentin: 1    Mole:  0

Looked out into the backyard this afternoon and low and behold....the mole trap was sprung.  So, out I went to check the situation.  Found the "tunnel' up rooted again, starting at the western fence.  Found it pushed up for about 50 ft. where the trap was located and with it's pointy spikes down into the ground.  But.....The "tunnel went just outside the trap location and right back into the path of established tunnel as it continued...!!!  Somehow, the mole's action tripped the trap, but he escaped by going just to the outside of it.  Actually, that same circumstance has happened to me in a previous season.  But seeing the tunnel did continue being uprooted, I followed it another 30 , 40 ft. and there the new uprooting stopped.

So....Now I realized we had a waiting game to play....But it didn't take but about 10 min. until I witnessed ground / grass movement.....The deleting tool went to work and that was the end of making nasty tunnels in my yard from that one.   Just checked again and no new activity....So either there is just one this time, or the others haven't made their appearance yet.

Mole check will continue....

Tree: I  have Syracruse to win their first three games. We will see how they do against Gonzaga if they meet in 2nd round.
CW. I believe my local CBS will show N. Iowa against the Runnin Rebels.
...After 7 games in the books, I'm doing good with my bracket.

Have no clue what it is temp-wise - but sunny is all I care about.  64 was supposed - ok I will go look - ............it is 63.

Had the high-energy quid here again today.  He moves like lightning, but is very quiet about it.  I did get a nap in downstairs.  He brings his own lunch and all I have to do is remind him to eat, gather up whatever he brought with to take home and schedule bathroom breaks so we don't collide ala Archie and Meathead.

All from here - have corn to harvest, ground to plow and chickens to coop.  Alone tomorrow.  Back then...

Dan, you're making my mouf water, big time!  Walt and I have had ground venison, and used it for chili.  I would love to try other cuts of venison.

As for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, I used to fill out a bracket.  Quit doing that.  Now, I just take the one out of the paper, and each morning, after the previous day's games, I fill in who advanced in each area.  I never got anything right, when I just filled it with my own picks.

For our lunch and supper menu today, we're grilling out:

Steaks, burgers, brats, chicken, pork chops, hot dogs

Side dishes are cole slaw, corn on the cob, potato salad, green beans, and pork n beans

For dessert, there's still some of the cake left from yesterday, along with chocolate chip cookies, fudge brownies (with and w/out nuts)

Willy, I believe they're still predicting light snow/flurries for us on Monday night and Tuesday.

Everyone enjoy your meal, have a great afternoon, and see you all later.

"Are you ready for some basketball"?  Hopefully, I'll be glued to the TV tonight, at 7:15, when KY plays East Tennessee.

I have KY to go all the way in my bracket!

Good morning,

We're expecting a high in the 60s today for the first time since November 12th. The robins are out in full force. There actually seem to be entire flocks of them. Unfortunately for the robins, snow is on the way for tomorrow. We could get 3 or 4 inches, depending on what track the storm system takes.

It was a busy night in Omaha. There were four separate shootings, all within 8 hours of each other. All were in North Omaha too, which is no surprise.

Off to school. Time to study some more improper integrals with unbounded integrands in Calculus. Confused

That 'March Madness'...is it contagious?  Yikes!  Sounds scary.

Got lots of yard work done yesterday.  Two trailers worth of 'yech' to the city yard waste drop off already.  Had Aedan outside in a stroller while I was working on the yard.  A robin landed in the grass about 6 feet from him and he shrieked and laughed for about 10 minutes.  Apparently he thought it was both exciting and funny watching it hop around.

Today brings work, plasma, then grillin' some venison steaks for dinner.  Model railroad club after that.  We have to start packing up our layout as the landlord decided after 29 years that he wants the space leased to us for 'personal reasons'.  Anyone want a 45'x90' layout?  Double-tracked HO scale w/DCC.

Good Thursday morning.  "Are you ready for some basketball"?  Hopefully, I'll be glued to the TV tonight, at 7:15, when KY plays East Tennessee.

We are kind of cool this morning, with a temp of 43 degrees.  Supposed to be in the mid to upper 60s today.  Hopefully, we'll see more sunshine today!

Coffee, juices, and our other morning beverages are all fresh and ready to go.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug!

On the warmer/serving station:  bagels, bear claws, and BLTs this morning.

Mookie, I'll sure be glad when we can get outside, and sit in our rockers, or on the patio furniture and watch the trains going by!

My wish for all of you this morning:  to keep safe and take care!

Johnny, Queen Victoria was known as the grandmother of Europe. Her children or grandchildren were in the royal houses of England, Holland, Russia, Norway, Germany and Romania. For the record, Kaiser Wilhelm II despised King Edward VII but respected and was a friend of George V. He loved Victoria who died in his arms.

I forgot to mention, that on my maternal grandfather's side, along with the Irish, there was some Dutch thrown into the mix.  Granddaddy always told me that was where my pug nose came from.  And I can't forget about being 1/16th Cherokee.

The warmer/serving station has been refreshed with more Irish stew, hot cross buns.  And for dessert tonight, along with the cupcakes, there is a chocolate cake w/a green shamrock in the center of it.  I had almost forgotten about having that little shamrock baking pan.

The sun has now decided to shine around here.  I took a nap around 4:30, and woke up at 5:16 or so, and the sun was shining.  Go figure Mother Nature, right?!?!

For grins place a shovel crosswise and leave it there to the mole tracks and see what happens. Fortunately my dog makes quick work of any here.

It's about time to go and check my mole field....I tramped it down {again}, about 2 hrs. ago....being careful, watching as I moved along it for any sign of movement....Saw none.

So....installed the next item in the fight....A mole trap.  One that has 6 long slender nail sized spikes poised above the tunnel and if anything passes under it.....Bingo....So we'll see what has happened as I go check.

Mole duty:  Returning home, checked the back yard, and sure enough, about 80 or 90' of previously tramped tunnel opened back up....But didn't go to either end of the yard.  Thought I could take some time and see him moving, but did not.  So retramped it, and we go on to the next check a bit later.

Hi All,

A Happy St. Patty's day to you all! No Irish in my blood...it's mostly German with a little sprinking of English. I have a redhead for a girlfriend...but even that doesn't work for me. She's Polish! Wink

Hope you all have a great day!

Mookie
CW - I have the English fighting the Germans in my heritage.  I can't imagine adding Irish to that mix.

My heritage is Anglo-Saxon (Degges, Scots--my mother's father's paternal ancestors (McIlwain) were from Scotland by way of Ireland; yes, I'm an Orangeman--and Cymric (called "Welsh" by the Saxons) through my mother's pateranl grandfather's ancestry (Jones). Mostly, it is English, and, if I wanted to, I could claim kin to almost anyone whose ancestors settled in Virginia in the 17th century (there are some living today whom I would not really care to claim kin to).

I respect St. Paddy (as I understand the Irish pronouce the diminutive of Patrick); he was a great man who did not shrink from addressing an Irish king concernng his religion. We have eaten our corned beef and cabbage in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Mookie, speaking of English and German fighting, did you know that King George V of England and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany were first cousins? and, that George V and Tsar Nicholas of Russia were first cousins (on their mothers' sides)? George V's father, Edward VII, tried to reason with his nephew, Willy, concerning his military ambitions, but Willy would not listen.

It's interesting, what you can find out about one's heritage, isn't it?

I've got the first round of Irish stew on the warmer/serving station, along with something I forgot to mention this morning:  Hot cross buns.  Or, if you prefer, there's cornbread to go with the stew.

I did hear this morning, that our day was to be sunshiny:  but, as yet, have not seen the sun shining at all.  Instead, it's very cloudy and gloomy out.  Current temp is only 51 degrees.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and I'll see you all later.  As usual, I'll be in and out, not necessarily where you can see me.

How many around here, are actually at least part Irish?

Don't know of any Irish connections in either of our families, but Jean and I do have a very red headed daughter....{Erin}.  Adopted at 4 da. old.

Mookie

You also mentioned something I was thinking - poor Quentin has moles and because of clay soil here, we don't - at least not in this area.  But was going to ship him some of our voles so he could have voles AND moles..............or not.

Voles......???   I had never heard of those....Thought it was a typo at first, so I looked it up in the dict. and found a description....small rodents, etc....No, the mole{s}, can do enough damage, so we'll not need any of those.

Just came back from taking Jean to the hair twister and partaking of breakfast at our local restaurant where CSX passes, and did see 2 trains {one was all low profile gondolas}, thought a bit strange, and did hear another one while we were at the Hair Salon.....Railroad {same one}, not visible there.

Beautiful sunshine again here today with clear blue skies.

Good morning. 50 and sunny in Carolina at present. My folks are basically English and Dutch. One family that snuck in about 1900 or so claimed to have traced their lineage back to the emperor Constatine, but I don't see how that is possible. But hey, you may address me as Your Grace, just in case. I woke up with a headache again. Hope it's due to the season change. Everyone take care

As I recall, there's some Irish in my ancestry, but I'm not sure exactly where.  The primary lines are English and French/German (Alsace-Lorraine).  The English side dates back to the 1600's on these shores, the French/German to around 1830.

Then again, on March 17th, we're all "Irish."

Speaking of St Patty's day, our annual barbeque is Sunday.  Hopefully we have a decent turnout.

Gotta see if the Dal finished his "breakfast" (he has to take the med with food, and he doesn't normally eat at any specific time), then go check the mail.  After that, it looks to be a beautiful day, and I've got lots to do.

I played "Whack-A-Mole" with 2 up here and that was the end of it. Haven't seen any since then. Checked our soil with an exterminator and found very little in the way of Cutworm or any other thing so "we may have got someone else's issue" as he put it to me

Back yard is a little cleaner once I got most of the broken off branches and various sundry bits cleared out. Now I see we are rather squishy as there is a lot of moisture in the ground---and we do have our backyard lake to contend with-----maybe I'll just start putting in marsh grasses--
