I wrote too soon: some time after I sent this, the clock went back to Denver time--and it changed itself in the night to again show New Orleans time (local mean sun time, that is). The clock does have a second hand, which seems to be true when compared with WWV, which I use when setting my watch.

Just a silly question.....Does your clock have a setting for the time zones.....Surely it does.  Sometimes when one changes the battery, etc., you must reset the time zone.

Our radio sensitive clock did behave last night; for the first few years we had it I had to take it in hand and tell it what time zone to show when we moved to observing New Orleans time and when we moved back to observing Denver time.

We did have snow from about noon Saturday up into the evening, but in the valley none stuck to pavement. I missed seeing the report as tohow much fell in the mountains.

Who, among us, remember who his famous brother is?

That would be James Garner of Gunsmoke fame, correct?

Good Monday morning, all.  Going to be another cool, cloudy day around here.  We currently have 43 degrees, going for a high of 50 to 52 today.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, including hot water for our hot tea drinkers.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug!

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon ,sausage, scrambled eggs, toast and jellies, including my favorite, grape.

On a very sad note, we lost a very good actor last night:  Peter Graves, from the series Mission Impossible and the movies Airplane, Airplane 11.  Who, among us, remember who his famous brother is?  Aparantly, he suffered a heart attack, just a few days shy of his 84th birthday.

Everyone enjoy your morning, and take care.  I have regularly scheduled dr. appt. this morning, with our GP.  Sure hope I haven't gained any weight; although, with both braces on, who can tell?  My appointment is at 10, but I'm thinking about going over and be there when they open, maybe a little bit before 9:00, so I can hopefully get home earlier.  Do not feel like sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, then about 45 minutes in the exam room.

I trust no one was late for church, Sunday School, or Bible study this morning. We had the usual people at our Bible study this morning.

Mookie, if you had taken my advice and eased into the stupid time zone ten minutes a day, you might not have lost the hour.Smile I'm glad you found it.

Our radio sensitive clock did behave last night; for the first few years we had it I had to take it in hand and tell it what time zone to show when we moved to observing New Orleans time and when we moved back to observing Denver time.

AZ and warm sounds so nice.  Thank you!  It is 43 right now and in December, that would be a heatwave.  But it is cloudy, damp and just plain bone-chilling.  Brrr.

Joe - found my hour!  Took the blanket with me trackside.  That was a great hour, too!

I-40 is a zoo to start with, and I know I-81 through VA is phenomenonally busy, so I can image what mixing them up is doing.  I hate hitting the joint I-81/I-78 section just north/east of Harrisburg at high traffic periods.  Three lanes wide at a virtual standstill...

Chicken and dumplings sounds just fine CW.  For an appetizer, some may want a small helping of that chili I have brewing in the crock pot right now.

Thanks MC for the Glenwood Canyon info. Seems reasonable that the most expensive Interstate construction location would also be the most expensive to repair.

Although it may not be (?) as expensive, the closure of I-40 last October in NC near TN line keeps getting moved farther out  (more money and now at the end of Apr) due to all the rain and snow this winter. The mountain rock formations there are shale with various angles from around 15 degrees above / below horizontal. Water under the shale (almost oil shale grade) makes it very slick and it slides. Presently most traffic diverts north onto I-26 at Asheville and goes to I-81 in Tennessee. I-26 has had slides this winter but slides have not closed the road for any length of time. Truckers really moan over the 50+ mile diversion and the border crossing of NC and TN. The border is at the top of a mountain (sam's gap) with the downgrades from there over 5% northbound and over 3.5% southbound. Needless to say there have been a few runaways even with runaway ramps installed.

Both I-81 and I-40 are major east - west (southwest) truck routes although I-40 about 60 - 70% of I-81 truck traffic. The traffic on I-81 to the intersection of I-40 near Knoxville is now horrific because that portion of I-81 is 2 lane each way. At the intersection of I-81 into I-40 the road becomes 3 lane or more through Knoxville (4 lane). All that traffic and its potential growth in the future has gotten many in east Tennessee to push harder for the NS Cresent corridor work. However the Knoxville ( from bulls' Gap) - Bristol segment will be a nightmare for NS (SOU) to expand since the route has street running, very tight ROWs, and curves 2 -4 degrees.

Note: There are shale mountains all over western NC which makes roads there very unstable after winters with a lot of freeze/thaw, rain, or snow melt.  When I-26 initially under construction south of Asheville remanants of a hurricane came over those mountains. The graded but not paved portion of I-26 several miles to the east of SOU - Saluda grade washed out completely. With another attempt to build and washout it took over 10+ years to complete  a 10 - 15 mile section of I-26. Money and maybe as expensive as I-70? a whole other story.

Well, since no one gave me any ideas for our Sunday Dinner, you all will have to settle for something I spent all afternoon yesterday preparing:

Chicken and dumplin's, w/freshly made garden/tossed salad and dinner rolls. (Sorry about that, mudchicken!)

Joe, we are watching the UK/Mississippi State game.  (You know who we are rooting for!)  They're at half time now, so need to get back into the living room.

Mookie, I hope you find your lost hour (I can't believe I haven't gone back to sleep:  woke up at 5:30, and have going, going, going since:  doing laundry today, and have the last load in the dryer!!!!!)  When the game's over, it'll be time for me to head to my three farms, and see what I need to get done.

MC thank you for the update. From what I've seen and read makes our rock slides and mud puny.At Black Canyon City up hill to Sunset Point is about 7 mi. on I-17, far less than events on I-70.

Dan - ssh - I'm not here -

Had a glare down with one almost nose-to-nose yesterday.  Train watching and he was right outside my window.  I swear he had frown marks between his eyes....

Back looking for that hour - maybe it is here behind my eyelids....

Mookie,

I bet if you wait until November that time will find its way home.

Quiet day at home with Aedan planned today.  Got the clocks reset last night and just have my truck left to go.  Already 45 degrees outside with very little wind.  Maybe we'll go walk trackside.  Still no robins up here, but the birds were singing at 5:22 this morning.

Glenwood Canyon opened to traffic on I-70 on Friday (one lane each way). It's gonna be 2-3 months before all the damage is repaired. Union Pacific has had some minor spalling, but nothing the slide fences could not contain. http://www.denverpost.com/newsheadlines/ci_14668241   http://www.denverpost.com/newsheadlines/ci_14660036  It's going to cost the state about a million to clean up the rockfall and another million to repair the roadway.  The truckers have been whining constantly about the disruption (perhaps they might actually want to pay more of their fair share?Mischief)

I would have loved to watch the helicopter in the canyon helping with the rock scaling operations that got the rest of the loose rocks down.

(No mudslides, but we are starting to deal with range fires down here on the flats...it's been a while, very little snow left in the shadows around here. At least the mountain reservoirs are full.)

I suppose most are hearing of the terrible Nor' easterner {but with rain, not snow}, plowing up the coast....Damaging winds and too much water....Heard one report of 500,000 homes with out power.  Trees down on buildings....Water over some railroads.....Here, it has been moderation, both in temp, and rain, but still, last night's figures reported we had 1.76" of rain yesterday and the night before.

Pittsburgh has been hit with high water too.....and of course Phila. / Wash. D C and on up north as the Low system moves northeast, slowly.

Hope we get that sunshine we've been promised for most of this new upcoming week.  And the folks out east too....Earlier this morning we had 38 degrees.  Imagine if {in the east}, if it had been snow....Would have been several feet of it with terrible wind.

Weeping Willow trees getting green in our area....They generally are the first.

Good Sunday morning, all.  We're waking up to cloudy skies, no rain.  We did have some light rain off and on all evening.  But the streets are dry at this time.

I hope everyone did remember to set their clocks, watches, up one hour, before retiring last night.  All our clocks were set, except for Sarah's clock radio in her room.  She'll have to do that tonight, when she gets home.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  There's also plenty of hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  cinnamon rolls, pecan rolls, bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy, whichever you'd like to have this morning.

Do I have any special requests for Sunday Dinner later on?

With electronic clocks in almost every room, it has become quite a job to adjust for the time change twice a year....Some of them will take care of doing that themselves, including my wrist watch, but we must have 17 or 18 time pieces around here...
