Mookie
Tree - I have trouble getting out of our warm bed at 5 am - can't imagine having to get out, jump into clothes and blast out of the house during the middle of the nite.

We do do that, but this one was at 7:30 in the morning.  One of the drivers hit some ice and crossed into the opposite lane.  At first we thought the sun may have been a factor, as it was still low on the horizon and reflecting off the wet/icy road surface.

It being -2F didn't help any.

Look for the guy in the flourescent yellow jacket helping bring one of the drivers out of the dark car.  That's me.

Mookie, I don't want the stuff either, but guess we're going to get a little bit of the white stuff anyway.  Now, they are saying we'll only  end up with 1 to 3 inches, when it's through sometime tomorrow night, early Sunday morning.

Joe, thanks for taking care of the Friday Fish Fry.  Think I'll take a piece of cod, and a little bit of cole slaw.  Not feeling up to par tonight, and don't want a whole lot on my tum-tum.

The workmen, before they left, "cleaned up after themselves", and when they left, Walt and I had to clean up some more.  We swept, where they had used the big shop vac.  Think we did a better job.

Everyone have a good evening ,stay warm, and take care.

Joe - thanx for blanket - it gets around zero at nite - so blanket will feel very good.

Sounds like they are going to do a little track repair in your town?  Or just outside your town?  Or just rest in your town?  Or?

CW - we have had sun all day!  Your state is all blue - I don't want whatever you are having!

.......12 degrees early this morning, but no snow or wind.  Up to 17 now.

Overcast, but getting lighter to the point sunshine will soon break thru.

That nasty line of ice storm from northern Texas over to the Carolina's is south of us....That must be terrible.  We did experience that back in 2005 and about 120,000 customers in Muncie area were without power for up to 10 days....!  It looks like we'll escape this one.

Randy ; cheap thrill time. Is your tlr. a high cube with air suspention ?? That is not a good thing in a crosswind.  We saw a few on their side in the Panhandle of Okla. I had a flatbed w/ air  and almost as bad at times, depending on how high the load was. Keep the rubber down and the shiny side up. LOL

Tree - I have trouble getting out of our warm bed at 5 am - can't imagine having to get out, jump into clothes and blast out of the house during the middle of the nite.  I think people should drive until dark and then quit for the nite.

Definitely would make it quieter here at nite w/o traffic on our street.

CW - holiday on trains today.  Haven't heard any all morning.  And we aren't even having any bad weather.  Cloudy and cold, but just normal winter "stuff".  Maybe they are waiting for us to get trackside tomorrow.

Joe - joe, please and thank you.

Roused from bed for a near head-on crash.  Significant damage to both vehicles (including one that had the engine ripped out), but relatively minor injuries to both drivers.  Haven't heard what caused it yet.

Errands to run today.  Sunny but cold (10AM, still -2F), so they won't be the chore they'd have been yesterday.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Randy, glad to see you could make it in here last night.  Wishing you a very safe trip on your run(s) this weekend.

Coffee, juices and other hot beverages are fresh and on the serving station, along with bagels, bear claws, assorted doughnuts, danish and muffins.

When I woke up this morning, we were at 16 F degrees; still quite breezy outside.  But, the snow won't show up until later this afternoon, early evening, probably around 5 or 6 p.m.  By the time the snow is through sometime tommorrow afternoon, they say we'll end up with about 4 inches.  The southern part of KY will accumulate 8 to 10 inches.

The workmen will be back this morning, hopefully to totally finish up.  So guess one of you will have take take charge of our Friday Fish Fry for lunch/dinner for me, and I should be able to come in later, and get it going for dinner/supper time.

Mookie, here's your coffee mug, all clean and ready for you.  And when they get all this work done around the house, maybe we can start back getting together in the mornings and watch the trains go by.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Randy - It wasn't bad first thing this morning, but then that wind did kick up (and it's still blowing pretty good here).  I can appreciate what you're dealing with with a truck, even our little rescue truck (10' high) can be a handful in a crosswind.

The worst part was that 6" of snow getting lifted up and blown around.

Drive safe.

My daughter and her husband are looking for a house.  One area they're considering is B'ville...

Evening all.....

Larry, glad I got out of Baldwinsville when I did, even then, the crosswind today was a fighter.  Decided to take the eastern route down to Macon, GA, now, looking at the weather report, glad I did.  Don't care to be in the snow with a heavy load.

Well, off to bed, going to fly down I-95 in the morning, take care......

......No snow activity around here today, but right now, it's 12.9 degrees.  Don't think we're getting any wind.  I'm not going out to find out.  My back yard security light likes to come on when the wind is blowing the evergreen trees back where it connects to the golf course, but have not seen it on any this evening.  And yes, I've been turning down the sensitivity control on it, but must not be far enough yet.....

I'll take some tea & chicken noodle soup and snuggle up to the fireplace.  Working on the tail end of a 24 hour bug.  So yes, Mookie, I'll take your advice.

Well, our snow has stopped falling (in fact, the moon and stars are in plain sight).  It hasn't stopped blowing however.   I just talked to a friend who drives a state plow - he said up out of the valley I live in is truly nasty.

The drivers on the Interstate are still having problems - another was just reported in the median.

Nice night to sit here at the computer and surf...

Good evening, all.  Joe and Ray, you're very welcome on the soup, and the roast, taters, carrots, etc.

Everything has been refreshed on the serving station.  And I believe you'll find some hot chocolate on there, also.  (Wish I had some here at home, but that'll have to wait until Monday, when I go to the grocery.)

The workmen left just before 4 p.m., and will probably be back out around the same time tomorrow morning, which was somewhere between 10:30 and 10:45.  They're still doing the outside insulation.  Hopefully ,they'll get everything wrapped up tomorrow, before the snow comes in around 6 p.m. tomorrow night!

Everyone enjoy your dinner/supper, have a good evening and take care.

The vegetable beef soup is real good tonight. Dinner Thanks much, CW!

We now have a temp of -7 below 0 here in Sioux Falls, and our wind chill factor could hit -35 below 0 later tonight. Tonight will be a night to enjoy a cup or two of hot chocolate.

We got a new do too. A Min Pin

Congrats, Jason. A friend of ours had one of those. She was very friendly, but hyper. She (friend) couldn't leave anything on the table or counter, else it would get examined thoroughly. She spent 4 hours fixing a birthday cake and then went shopping. When she came home, the dog met her with a white icing face and ears....

Okay, my public has spoken.  Here's the afternoon and evening meal:

1.  Vegetable beef soup w/your choice of crackers or cornbread, and tossed salad, and PB&J or grilled cheese sandwiches.

2.  Roast, taters & carrots w/green beans or broccoli w/cheese sauce, corn, tossed salad and cornbread

Desserts:

1.  Chocolate cake w/chocolate icing

2.  icebox lemon cake

3.  Yellow cake w/caramel icing

4.  Your choice of apple, cherry or peach cobblers

Workmen are here, got here around 10:30 this morning.  Doing the insulation on the outside of the house, by taking off a strip of the vinyl siding, and blowing in the insulation.

Sun is shining here, but I don't know what our current temp is.  But it is still quite breezy/windy outside.

Edit Note:  Hmm, I signed in with my name, but when I posted, it came up under Walt's name.  Currently using Firefox, where I have been logging on w/ Internet Explorer.  Guess I'm gonna have to call Kalmbach, and see what the problem is, as Walt was having this problem if he logged into the forums on IE.

...We now return you to your regularly scheduled season...

After a week or so of temps into the fifties, and over an inch of rain (which helped wash away most of the snow that didn't melt on it's own), we're back to winter.  Six inches of snow as of first thing this morning, and an inch or two since.  Overnight there was no wind, but a few minutes ago (as I was driving home from the fire station after an EMS call) a good gust came through and blew all the snow off the branches.   INSTANT white-out.  Then things settled down and now it's just snowing again.

Soup or pot roast - both sound good.   Maybe I'll start out my pot roast dinner (with corn bread?) with a cup of soup...

As for the ditch finders - the local Interstate has been collecting them for the past two days, as have a number of "surface" roads.  It's almost as if people forgot how to drive in snow during our January thaw.

......Our Thursday start was lots of sunshine, but about 15 degrees and no wind.  Actually that is just about right on the "normal" temp for this time in January.

A half inch of snow last evening, but nice blue sky today.

A couple of cars had their ditch finders on as we came home from work

Ditch finders are frightening things, both to the driver with them on and to other people on the road. A few weeks ago, I was going east on what seemed to be a dry street, and the finders on a westbound car suddenly came on, looking at both sides of the street; the car ended up running into the south curb perpendicularly--just behind where I was.

Good morning! We have -16.5 degrees below 0 here this morning, but at least the wind is not blowing. We will see a high of 7 or 8 degrees today if we are lucky.

CW, for dinner tonight, you could make a big pot of vegetable beef soup, or how about pot roast? One of my favorite dishes is buttermilk bisquits  topped with creamed chicken. I think that's what I might have here for dinner at my house tonight.....although it will require a run to my neighborhood grocery store.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  The wind here is picking up a bit, getting quite windy outside (took the dog out awhile ago, so know firsthand).  We were at  40 degrees when I got up at 5, and within two minutes, it dropped to 38.  So I'm not exactly sure how our temp is going to be going today:  up or down, or what.

Coffee, juices, and hot beverages are all fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, toast, and some cooked rice, if anyone would like a bowl of rice this morning.

Today is Make Your Request for Lunch/Dinner, Dinner/Supper menu(s).  (Walt and I will be dining tonight on chicken livers, so I thought I'd let you all select what you'd like to have in here today.)

Everyone have a great morning, enjoy your breakfast, be safe whatever you do this morning, and take care.

Mookie, your coffee mug is sitting right on the counter for you!
