Larry:  I think New York is trying to get something together to require trucking companies who operate in the state to install "truck specific" GPS in all the trucks that run in the state, to reduce the number of bridge hits and wedged trucks.

We have a database of directions to get to customers in our Qualcomm system, but they are only as good as the guy putting them in.  Example:  One might have 'at third light, turn left.  What they forget to tell you is that after the directions were written, the state installed one or more lights between the intersections, which makes life interesting.  I keep reminding people to add street names to clarify things.

Willy2
Too bad the exam wasn't that easy! My professor has an obsession with the natural log (lnx), which makes things difficult.

Yes, I never had to work with natural logarithms, but I used unnatural common logarithms when calculating how much of the desired ion was present when I was taking quantitative analysis. We had a nice little table of four-place logs in the lab workbook, and would add and subtract the proper logs as required.. Now, of course, the student would simply run the numbers into his calculator and come up with the answer.

I think that I was told why e was chosen as the base for natural logs, but I do not remember the reason. It always seemed to me that it is unnatural to take an irrational number for such work.

Now, can you bring us some nice weather on the Wasatch Front?

Good Friday the 13th to everyone.  Hope everyone had a very good evening and is ready to have a good Friday.

Coffee, oj, oj/tangerine, pineapple, apple and grape juices are freshly made this morning.  There's also hot cider, hot chocolate and hot water for tea this morning.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  doughnuts, long johns, caramel pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, bagels and bear claws, along with bacon ,sausage, eggs, for your breakfast this morning.

I'll be heading out in two hours for my doctor appointment, the cardiovascular doctor, for my yearly checkup with him.   Appointment is for 9 a.m., so I should be back in plenty of time to get our Friday Fish Fry going.

We're starting out with a temp of 41 degrees this morning, and it's supposed to be a sunny day, going for a high in the low to mid 60s this afternoon.  We haven't had a 'killing frost' yet, just a few mornings with patchy frost.  Willy, could we be experiencing Indian Summer, anyway?

Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast and the comeradery here, and I'll see you all later.  Take care, one and all.

Good morning from Carolina and thanks for breakfast. At present, 51 and rain, with clearing later. This storm has been something else. A friend in Norfolk told me that they had 75 mph winds there and a number of trees in her neighborhood were down. Paula, I hope your Dr visit results in good news and you get home quickly. Everybody have a great Friday

HOO HAW  ;   being one and two retired truck drivers . We invested in common sense and it returned dollars to us.  Never needed (GPS )  ~~ side loads gave you lots of clearance  under  13.5ft. or less. CBR sure helped a bunch .  Every day was a defensive driving class for us and in 48 yrs . only 2 (two) non chargable incidents .  One at a traffic light , 4 wheeler didn't like the brake lights on trailer  , so tried to take em' out.  Two ~ moving at road speed  and pickup tested safetybar on trailer ( it worked as advertised) .  Sliding tandem trailer bogeys helped make short turns . Yep we saw more than a few dumb  ( drivers). LOL                                         Respectfully,  Cannonball & Shirl

Good afternoon, all.  Well, got home from the doctor's office.  I have to go back on Nov. 25th, for two tests:  another ECG, and a carotid ultrasound.  He didn't like what he heard/did hear when he listened to both left and right side carotids.  That will be on a different floor from his office.  Then, I go back to him on Dec. 18th, to get the results.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way.  On the menu:

FISH:  1.  Cod;   2.  Perch;  3.  Flounder;  4.  Haddock;  5.  Halibut;  6.  Salmon patties;  7.  Shrimp (both jumbo butterfly shrimp and popcorn shrimp)  (And an order of gold fish for you, Mookie!)

SIDE DISHES:  1.  Baked beans; 2.  Corn on the cob;  3.  Fries;  4.  Hush puppies; 5.  Macaroni & cheese;   6.  Breaded fried mushrooms;  7.  Baked cornbread;

DESSERTS:  1.  Chocolate cake w/white icing;  2.  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing;  3.  Apple, cherry, peach and pecan pies.

She won't be here in the Cafe/Diner, but I'm baking a special doggy birthday cake for our Winter Brandy, our half Husky/half German Shepherd, who is 14 years old today.  She's been a good doggy girl and we've had her since she was 4 1/2 months old(we got her on March 27th.).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WIN-WIN

Everyone have a very good afternoon, and I be back in later on.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  It looks like it's going to be a very beautiful day here in Louisville.  I haven't heard the temp this morning, but it doesn't feel bad, inside the house, or outside (took the doggy out a little bit earlier).  Our high today is to be in the upper 60s, most likely 68 degrees, with plenty of sunshine

Coffee is brewing, fresh oj, orange/tangerine, apple, pineapple and grape juices are freshly made, along with hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot water for Larry and the rest of our hot tea drinkers.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, hash browns, tater tots (giving you a choice of taters this morning), along with bagels and bear claws.

I hope everyone of you has a very beautiful day today, and also hope you all stay safe and sound, whatever you have on your agenda for today.  Take care, and I'll see you all later tonight, for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.

Anyone here?

Anyway, got back to the house yesterday about 3, was nice relaxing evening.  Now, if I could just not wake up at 4am, I'll be happy.....

Seeing as I'm up, will start up a country breakfast, eggs any way you want them, bacon, sausage, griddle is fired up for pancakes and home fries (Lee Hi style).  Also have juice, toast and milk ready for all.

Trainfest is in Milwaukee this weekend, my dad and I are going later today, should be a good time, see if I can't find some more Wisconsin Central equipment, and buy some more modeling tools.

Later.....

P.S.:  I guess CW beat me to the menu, oh well, guess I help out in the kitchen then...

Goodness!  Lively bunch in here this morning!

A balmy 38 right now, with the threat of rain (leftovers from Ida?).  No railroad for me this weekend, so I'm enjoying three days completely off, in a row.  Polar express kicks off next weekend, and I'll be on the first trips.

With breakfast out of the way, it's time to get started on my list for the day.

The Orkin man just left, second time in 3 days. We have had an ant problem. All that rain we had caused them to show up in the house. There were hundreds on the wife's computer desk and tower, some on mine, and several hundred were in the shower. Hammercy, everything seemed to happen at the same time. The ones in the shower were fire ants. That'll get your attention quick....

putting in mah order for.....goldfish....

......Jen, would the order for "Goldfish" be the kind we purchase in a snack box.....If so, I'm stuck on them too......Aren't they great....Late in the evening after I'm finsished on here, I move to the family room and get a paper cup full of Goldfish, and with my great TV chair, start my late night check out of what's on TV that might have a bit of interest.

Our day appears to be a nice one......Expect temps to be in upper 60's.  That might mean one more round on the yard to take care of the bit's of leaves from the east and west winds of the last few days.  Maybe even get the leaf blower out and clean out under all shrubs so I can mulch them too.....If so, that might be the final run over the yard for the season.

Our weather is a little different here. It started out cold (about forty) and cloudy. About 10:30, the snow began, and now the ground is covered, thouth the streets are clear. There are two football games (junior high, I think) going on in the schoolyard behind our house. I wonder how they can tell where the goal line is.

I finished macerating my leaves yesterday, and now I need to put the mower up and get the thrower ready for use.

We expect a low of near twenty tomorrow.

Normally around now we would be buried under a semi permanent cloudbank that'll only allow for a rare peak at a few seconds of sun----and low single digits for highs----0C for low--- 4C for highs---

This year?

We are seeing more sun than ever and our Santa Claus parade, which is just winding its way through downtown London ON under a clear sky and 13C temperature---we found 18C this afternoon. Whistling

Oh goody goody gumdrops!!  We've been on the 'busy' side in here today!  That's what this cook likes to see:  plenty of people coming in, and all good friends.

Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Cheese w/extra cheese;  2.  Goetta;  3.  Hawaiian;  4.  Pepperoni/mushroom;  5.  Italian sausage;  6.  Supreme;  7.  Pepperoni/sausage calzones and 8.  Italian sausage calzones.

Everyone enjoy, and have a good evening.  Mudchicken, I've got some cider heating up for you!!

Fifty-five degrees here in the wilds of northern New York.  Fellow on a local forum here complained about the lack of snow here as yet.  I think there is a virtual lynch mob forming...

The rain ended up being a fine mist for an hour or so, then things dried up.

Got to get to work on a new vest for the RR.  The old one works well, but it needs to be dry cleaned.  The one I'll put together will survive nicely in the washer.

Whodathunkit Department.

Several years ago I took some of my die-cast fire apparatus collection to our annual banquet as decoration for the head table.  One of the items was a replica of the Orange County Choppers fire bike.

Somehow in the process the mirror (shaped as a maltese cross) turned up missing.  I figured it had been bumped, fell off, and ended up in the trash as the caterer was cleaning.

Tonight I'm cleaning up a collection of shopping bags (they're like coat hangers - leave 'em alone and they multiply) when I noticed something shiny - the mirror.

It's not like I haven't cleaned that area in three years.  I have no idea where this thing appeared from.  But it's back where it belongs and will be glued shortly...

......Good find Larry.  My loss is the twin antennas from my 1:24 scale '57 Chevy convertible die cast model.   It's been in my collection some time and eventually in the cleaning process, they both have been bumped off.

I have super glued them back, but now one is lost.  Not much one can do about it.

Mornin' gang.....

Trainfest was good yesterday, if a bit crowded, the nice weather brought everyone out.  Bought some more books and tools, plus now have added WC 6650 and 6654 to my roster. May just wind up ordering the last Athern Genesis unit offered, WC 6651, online, but no big deal.  I do know that during my Christmas vacation, I will have to get the layout up to operating status, the two I bought have DCC and sound already installed.

If CW didn't beat me to the kitchen again, will try the country breakfast again this morning, same as yeaterday.  Got a craving for chili tonite, if you need any dinner suggestions, CW.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Going to be another beautiful day here, with a high of around 68 again.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs (or however you want your eggs cooked), fried taters, gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, bagels and bear claws.

Walt (Mutt) made his spaghetti casserole last night, so that is on the menu for our Sunday Dinner.  To go with it, we'll have garlic bread, plain Italian bread, or you can have garlic Texas toast, along with green beans or broccoli w/cheese sauce, and oven-roasted red potatoes.

Started crocheting on a baby blanket last night, for our great niece Miranda.  Kept crocheting the pattern wrong, and had to unravel to almost the beginning row, twice.  Decided at 9:30 to quit on it for the night, and called and talked with Miranda's grandma, my sister-in-law.  We talked for almost an hour.  Think I'll leave the baby blanket afghan alone until tomorrow.

You all have a very good Sunday morning, be careful and keep safe, whatever you have planned for today, whether going to Church, work, and whatever else you'll be doing/going.  See you all this afternoon.

Randy, I think I can handle that.  Do you like you chili w/spaghetti, wagon wheel macaroni, elbow mac, with or without beans?  Mild, medium or hot?

Beans, and medium strength.

About the afghan, my sister does a lot of crocheting, she is now working on a baby blanket for a friend.  At the rate she is going, she should have it finished by the end of next week.  She usually winds up doing about 1-2 projects a month for family, friends, and clients.
