CW and Walt - You've got more coming later today. There's a pretty nasty looking line to your west/northwest now.

It was pretty exciting in southeast Nebraska last night. There were multiple reports of hail (some to golfball size) and winds as high as 75 mph. The highest rainfall amount I could find was a little over two inches. Here at home, hardly a trace of rain. Figures.

Mookie - There were a few reports of golfball size hail on the south side of Lincoln, so you and The Driver came close to getting more than your bargained for!

Of course, the lesson learned from all of this is that Omaha always misses out on the really good stuff.

Wow!  We got 4" over three hours once and it caused no end of trouble for us.  Six in an hour is unreal.  Check your basement!

Edit:  Just looked at the NWS radar predicted rainfall totals, which agree with your observations, Walt.

The folks up around Bloomington, however, may be dealing with upwards of a foot of rain for the storm total, if I read the display correctly (as of noon, EDT).

You, Brian (Ia) and Willy are responsible for the 6 inches of rain we just got in the last hour and a half!! (I just emptied OUR Rain Gage here at the house, and corresponds with what the TV weather has been giving!)

Walt, that's a wild figure of rain.....!!  Almost thought it a misprint when I read it...Our rain this morning was just light at times....no thunder or lightning.  And here, we really do need the rain.

Mutt - had to go check radar map - that moved mighty fast!  I know we got some rain, but don't think it was all that much.  Will have to check in with Willy later.  Wow - send some back.  We still need more.

I wish ya'll could send that rain up to southern British Columbia, where they're experiencing forest fires, and where we'll be headed to soon.  I'd like to be able to see the surrounding countryside when we ride on a pontoon boat on Lake Okanagan, and not have it shrouded in smoke...

Drum roll!  We got rain!  We got thunder and lightning!  And we got a little more rain after that!

About 6 hours late, and right when the Driver was getting ready for work.  But it had all but stopped by the time he was out the door.  Very nice!  Must go drag Willy out of bed and tell him!  Mischief

UnHuh, You, Brian (Ia) and Willy are responsible for the 6 inches of rain we just got in the last hour and a half!! (I just emptied OUR Rain Gage here at the house, and corresponds with what the TV weather has been giving!) Even the flat, level areas aren't able to take the "Runoff" and are flooded, let alone the underpasses that always flood.

They just interviewed one of the guys that works for the Metro Sewer District, and he said in the 25 years that he's been working for them; that this is the Most rain he's seen in that short a time span.

We've lived in this house for 21 years, and this is the very first time that we remember that our "Intersection" has been flooded to where traffic can't get through....even the city buses aren't going through the high water. City Fire has rescued multiple people from vehicles, and have not been able to make certain runs (or go around) due to high water. Sarah just got called out with her Fire Dept. on a "High Water Rescue", guess somebody tried to drive through water higher than they thought.  (Idiot!)

Hope this would be it for the rest of the day, (did have some plans) but they're calling for more of this, this afternoon.Sigh

....A bit of morning off and on light rain here....Wonderful.  We need it.

And....strangely enough, we have A/C running since late last night when the humidity did move in a bit.  No great heat wave now, but it keeps the muggys outside.  So unusual for our area this time of the year....We have spent little on running "air" this season.

A bit of weather trivia:  Morning paper indicates our July temps may have set a record back nearly a hundred years...but there are some breaks in the reports back to 1850....{But that's more than a hundred yrs...?}...But that is what the article said.

Avg. temp {here}, for the past near 30 years for July= 74.5....This just passed July= 69.6 degrees.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Sorry about being late, but when I woke up this morning, we were having a lightning show.  Just the lightning, no thunder or rain.  Rain still not in our immediate area, but is heading our way.  Going to make an interesting Tuesday Produce this morning.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, fruit punch, iced teas and hot water for hot tea are all ready.  Mookie, got your coffee mug ready for you!

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, and caramel pecan rolls.

I'll see you all later, after I get through with my regularly scheduled Tuesday morning job.  Have a good morning, and you all take care.

Tried gardening where I live now, but the ex didn't like the ongoing care part of gardening - like pulling weeds.

When I spent two months one summer in Baton Rouge with my brother and his family, my sister-in-law had me help in keeping the shrubbery around the house--pulling weeds. Another thing I learned was not to let my shoes scrape on the hardwood floors, else I had to take wax and polish the marks out. She had younger brothers, and she knew how to take care of them.

Much of the time I was in college, I worked on the Building and Ground Crew. One day, I was loaned out to the Assistant Dean of Women, who looked after the shrubbery on campus, especially around the women's dormitory. I made the mistake of doing all that she requested (she had the reputation of being difficult to please), and she asked for me again. I don't remember what one of the things she asked me to do was, but after I did what I understood her to say, she told me that that was not what she meant--and she never asked for me again.

As it is, I do what I see is necessary in keeping the yard up

Larry as far as the chair goes it was found in the grass in the SE wye.

Well!  One made it to the single track.  I was thinking there were two of one particular design, but only found one when we were straightening things up.  Figured I was mistaken, but obviously not...

We're lucky the tables all stayed in place...

Speaking of gardens - my folks did some gardening, especially when we lived in the country for a few years.  I love home-canned bread and butter pickles!

Tried gardening where I live now, but the ex didn't like the ongoing care part of gardening - like pulling weeds.  while I do keep the flower plot at the front of the house up, I just don't have time for a veggie garden these days, although I have been tempted from time to time to plant a "flowerpot garden" with some Black Seeded Simpson leaf lettuce.  Good stuff.

matt found out today what a good planter he was.most everything we had  for dinner he helped plant in G+G garden.Time to get ready for work.

Joe, I have been meaning to tell you that it is good that Matt, with the aid of good teacher, is learning how to take care of a garden. My older brothers learned, and at least two of them kept the practice up. I did not have anybody to teach or encourage me when I was old enough to plant a garden, and I wish that I had learned.

For lunch today, you'll find that the warmer bar has been changed into a cooler bar, and I have placed cold cuts meats, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheeses and sweet and condiments, so you all can make your own sandwiches for lunch.  And on the counter, you'll find various kinds of chips, pretzels, pretzel sticks, Cheetos and Doritos.

And for supper tonight, Walt is going to make his grandmother's Spaghetti casserole late this afternoon.

I took Sunday off.  Didn't even get out of my sleeping togs until about 2....  And then only because I had a shopping list to take care of...

Joe - When I put on the shoes Saturday that I was wearing during the "big blow" on Tuesday, I found stuff from Deshler in them.  They're finally dry.   BTW, the wind broke the sign in the pavilion, in case anyone asks...  If any of the chairs are missing, check New Baltimore...

I suppose I should do something constructive.

Yes, Cannonball, it does seems that the older we get, the quicker the time goes!  It's hard to believe we're already into August, and before we know it, it's going to be the dead of winter around here.  Where does time go?!?!?!

The weather will be heating up around here, and by the time Friday rolls around, we'll be back up into the 90s, with about a 30% chance of storms each day.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, iced teas and hot water for hot tea are made and ready to pour.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws,  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, grits.

Mookie, here's you coffee mug, clean as a whistle, ready and waiting for your coffee to poured into it, when I see you getting ready to come through the door!

You all have a great morning, enjoy your breakfast, and take care.

And the diesel engines of the day were all mechanical, no EFI, and if it was cold out, you had to get out a can of ether and snort-start the engine, and you had to double-clutch all the gears in the transmission.  If you had a rig with two (or more) transmissions, shifting was fun, and if you missed a gear, you had to start out in the basement again.

Beautiful day in southeast Wisconsin, went to our county fair, had a good time, got to spend time with our Little King and Queen, we started this last year as a fun thing to do with the kids, ages 4 to 7.  Was wildly popular, so brought it back again this year.  They had a ball today, and got to start the demolition derby event this afternoon.

Tomorrow, having lunch with Mom, then over to the house to work on the model railroad some more.  Heading back into the truck on Tuesday morning.

Actually it was the radio that everybody sat around next to in the evenings to listen to the news, etc.;and the radio took 30 minutes to warm up! Smile,Wink, & Grin

But if it was a battery-powered radio, it took off immediately since those with batteries did not have heaters in their tubes; only those that ran off 110 volts had heaters. Wait--if you had a crystal radio, you had lots of fun finding the right spot on the crystal (I used such only experimentally, but the first radio my folks had was a crystal set that my oldest brother built).

Johnny

I Think our first battery powered radio came after our first B & W TV!Smile

We did have a couple of crystal radios around, Dad & I tried to compete and see who got the best(?) station.(if you could find one)

I too had experience with a crystal set....I had a small plastic cased, hand held set.....with a knob to rotate, and rotate, trying to find something....

Amazingly, I did....!  The only station I ever found on it was Kearny, Nebraska, and that was from western Pennsylvania.  I may still have that little plastic set somewhere in a box....

Ray, you might be biting off more than you can chew........just remember Paula's size.

We will have to find a bike the "right size"; she still thinks she would do better on a 3 wheeler!

Today was a nice day for bike ride, temps. were nice so we didn't get overheated, and a very nice breeze blowing.

(we were very close to the Ohio River for most of todays ride, nice river breeze)

CW, you mean to tell us that you've never learned to ride a bicycle?? I should come to Louisville and teach you how to ride! Between Sarah and I,  we could probably get that accomplished.

It warmed up here quite a bit this afternoon, at the present moment we have 88 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the humidity is sitting at about 30%. We've had it really nice here the last few days.

1.  corned beef w/cabbage on the side for those who like cabbage, fresh garden veggie combo of cauliflower, broccoli, corn, carrots, and tomato slices (red, pink and yellow tomatoes)

2.  Italian spaghetti w/meat balls, garden salad and garlic bread

Dinner is now on the warmer bar:  Corned beef and the other veggies, along with the Italian spaghetti w/meatballs, salad and garlic bread.

Our high today was 79 degrees, with very low humidity.  Temp's already dropped down to 77, according to the weather report I just heard on the TV.  That means Walt and Sarah are having some good weather:  they're out riding their bikes.  We still need to find me a three-wheeler, so I can go out with them on bike rides!

Everyone have a good evening, enjoy your supper, and take care.  See you all in the morning.

Afternoon.

Well, when we got out of church we went to Lafayette for lunch. Then went to JCPenny’s for some curtains. We got some that were originally $80 each for $19.99! Wow! It really brightens up our living room. Oh I almost forgot, we got one of them new 40” LCD Hi-Def. TV’s last night. (Flat Screen as well) We love it.

Back in the day, we didn't have LCD HD TVs, we just had plain old TVs! None of this new-fangled Blu-Ray stuff either. And, we had to walk six miles to school, uphill each way, rain or shine. Of course, everyone took the hardships in stride because they built character. Yep, those were the days.

Sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation. Cool
