We are in our 39th day of 100 or more degree temperatures here in Alamo City for the year... a new season record.

.....That's hot for a long time.  Here, we've been under normal most of our Summer so far.

Trivia rail stuff:

We have a cut of rail carrying cars probably 1/4 mile worth, parked here on the siding at "Vernon" location on the Frankfort line.  Just by a rough count {as I drove by}, I see 6 miles of new rail to be put down someplace....They have been parked there now for several days.

And no rain in sight.  We are smack in the middle of the "exceptional drought" area.

Considering all the rain that Walt, Paula and Sarah have been getting in their area, I would imagine that some peope in Louisville have a lot of water in their basements and a lot of mud as well. I feel for them and I hope another 100 years will pass before this sort of thing happens again in Louisville.

I think I should be counting my blessings. I am sitting high and dry here in Sioux Falls, and I couldn't believe how nice it was outside when I stepped out my front door at 10:30 this morning. Although I do think the weather could turn nasty here by the end of this week, both in terms of temperature and high humidity. I wish I could "can" the nice weather we have been experiencing the last couple days and ship it to Walt, Paula and Sarah.

Walt is right - it is like a bad sneeze leaning more toward the drizzle.  It was short-lived.  Don't want to get anything too wet, you know.

Okay Mookie, what is "snizzle?".........Sneezing Drizzle?Mischief

I'm reminded of Detroit TV weatherman Sonny Elliot, who delighted in combining weather terms to create nonsensical words.  "Cold" and "Breezy" might become "Colzy" or "Brold".

I think I've been out in snizzle before....

Mookie

We are having a snizzle right now, but garden should be dried out by now.

100 for Saturday.  That will be our first one this year.  Could do without!

I know what misting rain and spitting rain are, but snizzle?

I've been too distracted over the past several months and haven't checked into the diner, but I saw the flooding in Louisville on TV and had to make sure Paula, Walt and Sarah are all okay. It looks like you all have a lot of mud left behind. You okay?

Tina, Thanks for checking on us; yesterday, along with our windstorm Hurricane last Sep. and the Ice Storm the first part of this year are days we will remember for quite awhile. (and not Fondly!)

If anybody is interested on seeing some of Louisville's goings on yesterday, try:

courier-journal.com      There are several decent photos and articles on the damage.

A very nice Indiana sunny morning here....The mess and trouble stopped basically just south of us yesterday.  Just .45" of rain here for that overnight and all of yesterday.

We still need rain, but not in the form most folks received it south of us yesterday.

Looks like the rest of the week to be rather nice, but heating up at week's end....90's coming.

Weather stations  were indicating flooding from Muncie south yesterday, but checked out White river yesterday evening and it was completely normal....rocks sticking up in river bed in some parts of it....So no massive rain occurred north of us to fill our river.

Hello, Tina!  It's good to see you in here!!  The three of us are doing okay.  We are fortunate that we don't have too much mud right around our house.  We're on a semi-high two-city lot, and the water runs off pretty well.  I took a short walk up Oak St. around 4:30 yesterday, and had to walk in the street, because of several sections of the sidewalk having mud on it (got into the street after I slid on one of the muddy spots).

Walt did have a slight mishap when he went walking to the store yesterday afternoon.  Skinned his right knee up real good, and it's swollen, and showing signs of bruising, but at least he was able to turn around and come back home, and is doing all right; just moving very slowly.

I found out that my sister, her husband and youngest grandson were out in that mess yesterday morning.  She had a doctor's appointment, and had to keep it.  Fortunately, they didn't have any real troubles getting to the doctor's office and back home.  Still can't get hold of my twin, to check on them, though.  Guess their phone is out of order, as all I get is a fast busy signal.

Send me an email, and let me know how you, Mark and rest of family are doing.  And I'll do the same.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Hope this is a better day for everyone.

We were getting a light rain shower last night, when I went to bed about 11:15 or so.

The library and the University of Louisville will remain closed today.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas, and hot water for hot tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs,

homemade hash browns, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Mookie, I have your coffee mug clean and ready for you.  Do you think we can find a dry spot in the garden this morning?

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, and take care.

It seemed like "War of the Worlds" this morning. Aledo tested the tornado warning sirens on schedule. However, a thunderstorm with gusty winds was passing by at the time.

We got some thunder and .4" of rain (4/10's).  The cells intensified as they moved inland, generating some severe warnings and a few trees down.

The moon and stars are out now.

Hopefully Louisville is seeing the same thing.

Some of the nasty stuff with this massive weather system reached up as far as Indianapolis.  Would you believe, we, just about 50 miles north....received .45" of rain counting from overnight thru our day.  Indy airport recorded 67 mph wind this afternoon.  Indy had 3.81" of rain from it.

Hope you folks in Louisville ge back to normal soon and power to the masses....

Well, I think the rain is over for us, for tonight (hopefully).  We missed the evening news, as Walt and I were in the kitchen, fixing the spaghetti casserole.

For supper tonight, you can have soggy sandwichesEvil, or you can have Walt's spaghetti casserole w/garden salad and Texas garlic toast.  (And Walt said for the salad, watercress.)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sarah just got home from the fire department; she and Walt are doing to go back out, and head towards the river, to check things out on that end, before it gets dark.

No rain here in nw ohio.Hope you still keep your power on Cw.I saw on TV where they are moving the horses at church hill downs.Matt is helping mamma in the kitchen.Supper will be ready soon.

Power has stayed on thusfar, hope it continues. Very good thing today wasn't Derby Day, they would have had to moved a Lot more than the horses, the Infield looks like a gigantic swimming pool!

The Main Library had some flooding problems, lost several thousand books and had computer damage in the basement of the building, U of L had about 10 buildings on the Belknap Campus (Old Louisville) that had about 3 feet of water in them; and the downtown Medical Campus had several buildings with water in them.

Apparently, this was a once in a lifetime rain; the last highest rain total in such a short time span was over 130 years ago.(for Louisville)

Looks like we might be in for some weather a little later tonight, unless the lake moderates it (as often happens).  We shall see.

Yes, we noted the wave to hit Louisville again is the one that passed southwest of our area and headed south.  I see by radar it is upon that area now.

Here....so far, {and the wave coming at us has passed}, we've had just enough wind to move the trees around a bit, and for rain....very little.  Have not heard one thunder sound yet.

Perhaps some more will develop and come this way later today, but none here now.

Man oh man, what a morning we have had!!  The Produce Truck never arrived; we just told drivers to turn around and go back the way they came.  We told them not to turn left onto Virginia Ave., as it was flooded, and don't go north on 26th, as it was (and still is) flooded.  We had a policeman show up, but all he did was pull his squad car onto Virginia, and park at the curb.  Didn't even try to set up a road block, or pull his car sideways to block the end of the street.

I finally came into the house about 12:30, and said the heck with it all.  Sarah got called out on a water rescue about 9:15 this morning, and she's not home yet.  Guess maybe we'll see her sometime later tonight.

We just got the weather alert:  another severe thunderstorm warning coming our way.  And Walt just left to go to the grocery store.  At least he has his rain jacket and his cell phone with him.  Getting very, very dark outside.  They said the lightning is cloud to ground, and for people to take cover.  Hopefully, Walt will turn around and come back home.

Everyone take care this afternoon, and see you later.

Heard from Houston - they are dying, literally, with no rain for so long.  Becoming a dust bowl.  Wasn't that long ago and Houston was under water.  Feast or famine!

Willy - one thing nice about our duplex - besides the nice landlord - we are stone, so cuts down on so much of the noise, we are on the side of a hill, so miss some of the wind down low, have lots of mature trees which are healthy and keep down the hail damage, altho they do shed a lot and aside from the lightning, I usually don't hear much of anything.  Guess Hallam and Cortland got hit pretty hard - (small towns south of us about 15-25 miles for the rest of you) - and Hallam had a very serious tornado a few years ago.  Nearly wiped it out.  So bet they are relieved there wasn't more damage.  And if we would have gotten CW & Mutt's rain, where we are, it would have washed down the streets below us.  Side of a hill gives us good drainage.

Mutt - it is all Kansas fault.  It got really rough when it left here and Kansas added to it, so put it on them!  :)  (do we know anyone from KS?) Alien

Will be MORE THAN WILLING to send some of this rain back to the West and other areas!!

Walt, it would be nice if you had the influence. We have been dry (a few light showers here and there now and then) since early June; we may get some thunderbumpers and showers Saturday. The morning temperatures have been about seventy when I strike out to walk, and we get up into the nineties during the day. I turn the swamp cooler on about ten in the morning (except on Sundays when I turn it on before we leave for church). We had much rain in late May and it was generally cool through June.

Those are interesting pictures. I think of rain in Baton Rouge in the summer--not anywhere nearly as much as you had at one time--and it would be hotter after the rain than it was before because the pavement was so hot before that what stood on the streets evaporated quickly, increasing the humidity.

Checked our cellar and didn't see any ducks, or hear people yelling for help.

Went out and took several pictures about 1145, will add to this post.

According to our media; this is a record rainfall for here, period!

And Quentin, that Was Not a Typo; guess we won't have to "water" our plants for a few days!

Approx. a block from our house going north.

Love the "Snow Emergancy Route" sign, fortunately, it's not snowed. (yet)

Unfortunately, we do know the owner of that car that's partially submerged.

Approx. a half block looking west.(van was trying to drive on sidewalk and avoid the water)

Approx. half block looking east. (bus driver decided not to go that far!)

Just checked out what Walt was relating as per the water, floods and stoms coming across his Louisville....Just watched our Indy stations and southern Indiana has been hit too....Some with up to 6" as well.

Here, Muncie....we'll experience a line associated with this system within this hour....High winds of 50 to 60  mph are possible and lots of lightning and hail possibility.

The line that will pass across us {35 to 40 mph movement}, will not be quite as severe from what they are saying as it has been further south.  But we'll get rain....much of it....and we do need it, but not in the flooding manner, which some areas will experience.

So we'll see what happens.

Louisville has really been hit hard....!
