Busy day.  Started off quite cool (44 in August?), but warmed up nicely (80 now).  Finished the initial wiring on the truck - now the emergency light bar and radios work!  I still have to build an accessory switch panel, but that's a project for another day.

Got the lawn mowed, too.

Got a text from my son - it appears granddaughter will be dealing with asthma.  Maybe she'll grow out of it, or at least will not be debilitated by it.

Time to get cleaned up so I can run into town and get a birthday card for my aunt for tomorrow.

Morning

It has been a good week here in western Indiana. Supposed to be really hot, and humid like Quinton said. 71* right now. Looks like a little shower is up by Fowler on the radar. Not much rain though.

Quinton, NS, and CSX have been leaveing out ties along the tracks for about 2 months now. Upon investigation of our local rail it looks like it is in dire need of replacement/grinding. It is shelling something awful. Maybe it will come here, maybe not. Anyway cool find!

Yes, we're to be a bit warm and muggy today....Morning paper indicates we'll get to the low to mid 90's.  Partly sunny right now and our day started earlier with a peek at the instrument indicating 70 degrees.  Normally rises at least 20 degrees to the heat of the afternoon.  Still very dry here.

A good weekend to all.....

Indiana State Fair is underway, and has added 5 days to it's schedule this year making it {I believe}, 17 days.  Guess the Fair Train will be running from north of Indy to take people to the Fair Grounds.  I actually haven't heard anything about it yet, but also didn't hear of it not running...It has been each year.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  And Ray, thank you for taking care of breakfast this morning.  I slept so well last night, that I only woke up almost an hour ago.

I hope everyone has a very good day today, and I hope our friends down in Texas manage to get some relief from their heat.

Good morning! The coffee here is about done brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. For breakfast this morning we have blueberry pancakes with hot maple syrup, french toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, and we also have a generous assortment of donuts, rolls and bear claws.Chef

Currently, we have 72 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but I know that the conditions here will get nasty as the day wears on. The weather here was nice up until a couple days ago.

We did get our promised cool weather today--mid-fifties in the morning, and only into the mid-seventies in the afternoon. We expect the same tomorrow and Sunday. The swamp cooler is resting today, tomorrow, and Sunday, but I expect to start it up again Monday.

We had a much high wind yesterday, and I saw some branches that had been torn off trees as I was out this morning. We lost only a very small branch off one pussywillow;

Day 42 of 100+ degree weather this season here in Alamo City.

.....We are to start 3 days of muggies and 90 plus degrees tomorrow.  Kind of pales with all the 100's you folks have had.

Day 42 of 100+ degree weather this season here in Alamo City.

There are indications, however, that we may have some upcoming days only in the upper 90's.

Hmmm...I'm gonna have to hunt around for my jacket.  Cool

Watched a work train come into Muncie in the last hour....About 10 flat cars with Moble home like, crew quarters....and many, many flat cars containing special equipment....even a sizeable tandem axle truck chained down on one of the cars.  Also contained in the consist, about a half dozen gray painted box cars.

I suspect this train must be involved in some way with the six miles of new rail we commented on in the last few days that was in the area.  Heard a "van taxi" communicating to pick up some crew members in the Muncie area off the train.

LaughCannonball, I hate to tell you, but I don't have a pet garter snake.  Yes, I like to look at them from a distance.  And even though I know they are absolutely harmless, I will not get anywhere close to them.  Prefer to stay on the side of caution:  stay safely away from all snakes.

Our Friday Fish Fry, with  all the regular types of fish, and the side dishes are now on the warmer bar.

Our desserts today:  yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, peach and strawberry cobblers and cherry and pecan pies are in the pie chest.

I have been reading David Baldacci's book, Total Control, and I'm having a very hard time putting it down.  Totallly engrosing.  I was reading it until after 11:00 last night, and am now about half way through it.

Had an excellent thunderstorm last night. Nothing like what Louisville got earlier this week, but we did have well over an inch of rain in just half an hour. Plenty of cloud-to-ground lightning too. Now the heat will be on. We're expected to hit 100 degrees tomorrow. South winds are supposed to be strong too, which will just blast that heat like a furnace.

Nice morning here in muncie.....low 60's earlier to start our day and should reach low 80's this afternoon, but lookout....the muggies and heat for the next few days starts tomorrow.  Still dry...!

Cut of "rail" cars on NS parked here for a few days has been moved.  Don't know which way they went.  Someone's area is about to get roughly 6 miles of new rail....about 1438 tons worth.  That should put a few people to work ripping up and installing new somewhere.

New employment figures announced this morning encouraging....Perhaps we are gaining slowly but going in the right direction for recovery of our economy.  Sure hope so.  Of course, for all kinds of employment.

Good Friday morning, everyone; and Joe, thanks so much for getting breakfast together this morning.  I seem to be going in very slow motion this morning; just cannot get in the correct gear this morning.

I hope everyone had a good night last night, and hope you all have a very nice morning.  Think I'll go out to the garden, and spend some time out there.

It's been a beautiful day here, with temps in the mid 80s, with plenty of sunshine.

Joe and everyone else, how does open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters, gravy, corn on the cob, green beans and your choice of cole slaw or salad sound for supper?  Hope you  all approve, as that's what I've fixed for tonight.  And for dessert, we have:  yellow cake w/chocolate icing, peach cobbler w/ice cream, and cookies:  oatmeal raisin, sugar, chocolate chip and M&M.

I did hear on the 5:00 local news, that it looks like our main library (the one we always go to), more than likely won't be opening back up until sometime after Labor Day.  Guess we'll have to find another location to visit for awhile.

Everyone have a great evening, keep safe and take care.

Walt, is your lawn watered enough? Sure would be a shame for it to die because it doesn’t have enough water…Clown

Seriously, I hope that any troubles that that nasty storm brought you would be resolved quickly, and safely. We just had LOTS AND LOTS of wind. I’d say 55mph-60mph.

Let's just say that we won't have to water the flowers and veggie plants for Several Days!Smile

(lawn generally only gets watered when it rains.)

We had two rounds of storms tues.; the morning one brought that 6" of rain, and the middle afternoon one brought a bit more rain with some strong winds also.

Paula / Walt.....Have you noticed the Ohio River rising measurably since all that water fell in your area and of course in southern Indiana as well...Up stream.  Or could it handle the increased flow without much problem....?

Not too noticeably; according to the paper, the Upper and Lower Gauges at the Locks and Dam are not very much above normal for this time of year, including Tuesday's Deluge.

edit: Did see in today's paper, (had not heard this before) that the old L & N Headquarters building is closed due to flooding from Tues.; about 6 feet of water in their basement.

[It's owned by the Commwealth of Kentucky's Cabinet for Human Resources now, but the old L & N sign is still up on the east end of the building, and is lighted at night.]

Quentin, you are right. Many folks forget about other things like wild life of all kind, while coping with the flood. Next thing ya' know~~~~ GOTCHA.   CW is aware of this. Here in the desert the ( Mohave max) rattler is the worst of the worst.  Have any kind of day ya' want.  Respectfully, Cannonball

Be aware of snakes run out of their home by water.

Cannonball:

That is one negative of Az.....Those nasty Sidewinders and the others too...Loved the sunshine out there when I was involved in running automotive tests down thru the desert southwest of Kingman, and up around {the very old route}, thru Oatman, and so on....Rattlers out on the road pavement at night warming on the still very warm road surface....and all the rest of it....Loved all the sunshine {almost everyday}, and  so on....but those creepey things...Absolutely, not for me.

PS...Understand you were referring to things in the mid west from the floods, which reminded me of such creatures in Az...{above}.

Cool but clear here in the north woods of NY this morning.  With several doors and windows open, the furnace kicked on....

On the railroad tomorrow.  If everyone shows up, I'll have an easy day as conductor.  I'll do the paperwork, they can do the work work...  Big Smile

Headed for a cousin's house on Sunday for my aunt's 80th birthday.  Will also get to see my uncle for the first time in several years, as well as his kids (who I managed to see several years ago during a visit to MI).  If my daughter and her family come up, they'll get to meet for the first time in some cases.  We've all been kind of spread out...

Good Thursday morning, everyone.

Cannonball, have no fear:  If I come upon a snake (unless it's a little bitty garter snake), you'll hear my yelling all the way to Arizona!!  I don't particularly care for any snakes,  but I can handle looking at the garter snakes.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas, Gatorade and hot water for hot tea are all freshly made and waiting.

Breakfast this morning:  bagels, bear claws, and sausage/egg/cheese on homemade biscuits, English muffins on the warmer bar, and the boxes of cereal are on the counter.

U of L's Belknap campus will be opening back up today, but the main library location will still be closed today.  The last time I checked, their main phone line was still down.

If any of you have meal requests for today's lunch and supper, please let me know, o.k?  And everyone have a great morning, and take care.

Glad to hear all you folks are on high ground and are reasonably dry .We would be glad to trade some heat ( 110F ) for your rain. 33 days and counting of over 100deg. days. However that is what the desert is . Every 100deg.  dayis one less this summer. Some times we wish still go where the climate suits our clothes like when we were truckin'.  Be aware of snakes run out of their home by water.

Railfan1 (Lance), welcome back!  Hope you can drop in a little bit more often.

The rain seems to be totally out of our area.  Even though there was a chance of our getting a little bit more rain today, we haven't gotten any.  Our high today only made it up to 82 degrees.  Now, we will be warming up each day, with a predicted high tomorrow in the mid 80s, and Saturday or Sunday, into the low 90s.

Supper tonight will be leftover spaghetti casserole, with fresh salad and garlic Texas toast or you can have Italian bread.

Ray, there has been quite a few people pumping out their basements today, along with the Library, U of L's Belknap Campus (the one downtown), and the hospitals in the downtown area.  During the 6:00 news, they showed U of L still pumping out water, they  had been pumping since yesterday afternoon.

Everyone have a great evening, and guess I'll go check emails, since I haven't done that since early this morning.  See you all in the morning.
