Using a good sound system with a powered subwoofer and a programable vibrating computer chair puts me all-in the simulation. Question maybe you can answer- I can't get rid of the heads-up display in red on the top rh. Any ideas? I understand the upcoming AAR stand is software only and you build the hardware?

All I know about the AAR stand is what I've heard through rumors - and the email reply I got from the manufacturer that said "watch this space."

I haven't tried to get rid of the HUD, but I do think there is a keystroke to make it disappear. I still use it, although I am getting better with the guages. I've found that I have to go to the keyboard rather than the keys on the console for some commands. Might just be me. It's still a great experience!

Jim, the big fireworks show in Chicago is held every July 3, not on the Fourth. That's a Saturday night this year; your hotels are probably already sold out.

I have a big sky at work, and can see some of the larger shells from there, about 15 miles away. My perch is also good on the Fourth, since most of the surrounding suburbs have their own fireworks displays. I usually work the holidays (we're always busy enough), and if I should be told that we aren't working on the Fourth this year, I'll be far, far away.

Our city started a recycling program about 10 years or so ago but it only lasted about 6 months. The previous program required that you sort everything and keep it separate for the truck to pick it up. This newer program let you throw everything into one container and they sort it later. The newer program seems to be working well and making the company who picks it up some money (selling the scrap metal, paper, etc.). I wish more people would participate in the program as it is something EVERYONE should do. Oh well, at least I am doing my part to reduce landfill trash and promote a cleaner environment. Now don't get me wrong, I am not setting in any trees with a shotgun trying to protect every tree, bird, fish, etc., but we do need to be more watchful of what we are doing to the place where we live.

Ha Jim, we have it twice a week, and we usually have 3 Recycle boxes full each time!!

Hey crew - I've got another one of those [swg] Kozzie questions from downunder heh heh...

....In another recent thread about successors to MILW, Mark (Trains Editor) used the term 'Badlands'.....We don't use that term here downunder (as far as I know) and I have heard about it on and off over the years e.g. in western movies.

I realize it's talking about really poor country that wouldn't grow a thing - but is it always desert like areas???.[%-)] (It's a name that, to me, conjures up all sorts of images like bandits prowling etc etc [:O])

Thanks "up over" crew [8D]

....Perhaps it refers to the Dakota's area....and the fact the area is a harsh make up of land...dust and hot in summer and very serious winters. I have not seen it first hand so won't try to detail any more specific.

That does sound like the type of place only crims would hide out..[xx(]

So maybe parts of North & South Dakota may fit that description?

Lights on - Mookie on board. Coffee coming.

Jim - just remember, you may be the richest man in the cemetary! $$$$

Head on in Texas last nite - BNSF down again. Sad....

Foggy here in Lincoln town. How is your weather?

Nora's coming tomorrow and of course, BNSF has completely torn up the east entrance to Hobson yard - right where I watch trains! Stopped there last nite for a minute and checked in with a regular. Told him I hadn't heard many trains lately - well, gosh - it's because they are running them north only out of Lincoln toward Omaha and Iowa and not south! It looks like a war zone on the tracks - and remember - there are six sets of them to mess with. Maybe someone told them they buried a hoghead out there and the union is trying to find him and dig him up for his dues? ?? [}:)]

Gotta go wash some of Jim's dishes - especially the dog dish!

Well guess what I ate after work tonight? Cream of _____ soup? Wrong, I had Wendy's double cheeseburgers. hahahahaha. Got ya, didn't I?

The Badlands are an interesting feature. The formations don't cover much land. They just sort of pop up in the middle of rolling grasslands that stretch for hundreds of miles in every direction. Just like Ayers Rock, I am sure the first people to view said what the h...? I think the popular interest is due to the formations being rather unique. As to why, I haven't looked in to the geology of the area.

Mookie, glad to hear you're hearing trains again!! I hate it when we can't hear any going by ( only live about 1 1/2 - 2 blocks from the tracks. Actually saw one a couple of days ago while walking back from the store: had not heard any horns blowing. Weird, weird, weird: should ALWAYS HEAR the horns blowing!! And have a terrific weekend visiting with Nora and family.

I did organize a pot luck for work last night. The cafeteria is closed on weekends so it is usually everyone for themselves. We had a pretty good pot luck with tons of food left over. Today we will continue to finish off what we didn't eat last night. [:p]

After looking at the website, using Ayers Rock is quite a good example. Helps me get the overall picture. [:)]

Would there be other areas in the U.S. called "badlands" ? I seem to have some hazy memory of another area with that name in the south west area of U.S. [?]
Maybe Ed or mudchicken can comment on that...

Speaking of Broccoli [:)] [:D] [:p]

Try this if you never have, cut up the broccoli into slightly larger than bite size pieces and add tons of butter, some salt and pepper and wrap in aluminum foil. Cook on the outdoor grill. I LOVE IT COOKED THIS WAY. Man it it sooooo good. And you can do the same with califlower and I think the califlower is even better. People tell me they don't like broccoli or califlower but will try this and eat it. The aroma is fantastic and the taste is knee slapping good. [:p] [:p] [:p] <Noah, you are getting hungry> [:D] I could live on these two things cooked this way. I also love mushrooms. On a pizza they are great, raw and dipped in ranch dressing is pretty good too. I like many vegies except squash. Now acorn squash baked with brown sugar and lots of butter is ok. But the boiled squash is nasty. <Noah, just lost his hunger> [:0] [B)] [:(]
