Boy am I glad I post after my breakfast....

Coffee is on - Mookie is breathing - guess the world is going to keep turning.

Nora is coming this weekend. I've got a secret for which I will be off tomorrow, I think , and if I can clear it with those involved, I will whisper it to you on Wednesday. But only with permission!

We will now adjourn and proceed with the rest of our lives!

Hey Noah! On a brief diversion from the delights of food, coffee etc etc I have been meaning to ask you, your picture of a WSOR passenger train -
I thought WSOR was just freight.
How often do they run a passenger service? On a regular timetable or excursions from time to time?

There is no set topic. However, trains, food, and everything under the sun seem to be talked about. Just post whatever is on your mind. So grab a stool, have a cup of coffee, and just chat away.

It was also suggested that Mookie be the waitress. I have a feeling that even though she does like to chat that she probally has no desire to be the waitress. But I bet she might like a cup of coffee or sip on a hot tea. Every now and then I think a hot tea with honey is a good thing, but for the most part just bring me a cup of good old regular coffee, no cream, no sugar, just plain, hot coffee. Coffee is my cup of tea. [:D] [;)] [:D]

Jim- what happened to this forum topic? OK, I know it's a diner and all-but all you guys and gals wanna talk about is food! Yech! Over-rated! I eat once a day (whether I need it or not- except on weekends with my daughter...I'll cheat and eat twice! [sometimes])
So a non-food related topic...just got my new raildriver today- AWESOME! Probably the closest I'll ever get to the real thing. With a good speaker system (Altec Lansing) with sub running MTS it is just incredible. I'm gonna have to call in sick tomorrow so I can play! Anyone else have one?

Well I tried to change the topic off of food and on to something else but someONE put it back on food. Now I won't give any name <Mookie> and I won't point any fingers <Mookie> and I certainly wouldn't throw a cup of coffee <maybe a wet noodle>. Speaking of throwing food there is a restaurant in Missouri, near Branson, where they throw hot rolls to you. I have never been there but my family has. I love hot yeast rolls. Now I wouldn't want to make anybody hungry <Noah> just because I memtioned hot yeast rolls but let me tell you I like them with lots of melted butter. Now some people might want to put butter and honey <Ed> on them and that would be ok too. Then again some people might want butter and picante sauce <Dan>. Some people might like them without anything on them <KEV> [:D] [}:)] [;)] But now I certainly wouldn't want to make anyone hungry but you know hot rolls and pinto beans <Paula> might be ok too. I just had Cream of Potato soup so I am not hungry now, and it is 130 am anyway. Now speaking of potatoes and wanting to turn the topic to trains < [:D] > you know GN or NP (one of them I forget which) was famous for serving very large baked potatoes. When I say large I mean LARGE. Now wouldn't a nice big baked potato with lots of hot melted butter and ham and cheese and broccoli be good about now. HMMM, I am making myself hungry. [;)] I don't have any potatoes to bake and Wendy's is now closed so no baked potato for Jim. [:(] [B)] [:0]

Hey we haven't talked about donuts or other baked items for breakfast. I like Long Johns with maple icing. Caramel is ok but I like the maple a little better but it is kinda hard to find. Heat them a little and put LOTS of butter on them and they are mighty fine eating. [:p] Of course don't forget a nice large, cold, glass of milk. I put my glasses in the freezer and chill them before I put the milk in them. Oh, boy, does it make the milk icy cold and good. [:D] [:p] [:)]

Hey Mookie, invite Nora to the coffee shop, I don't think she has been in yet. [:(]

I have one, and I love it! I also understand that they may be coming out with a version that replicates a traditional AAR stand. Either way, once you use the RailDriver, you'll never want to run MSTS or Trainz from the keyboard again! Actually moving a lever to advance the throttle or apply the brakes is SO much better than hitting keys. My usual problem was getting to the right key at the right time. I still manage to get into trouble from time to time, but at least if I want to apply some brakes, I know which lever to move.

Raildriver is a 1/3 scale locomotive control console:

That's yours truly, running on MSTS.
It costs about $150.

Nora planned to be at Rochelle today - checked the cam a couple of times, and saw a lot of tops of heads, but the cam is aimed a little higher than it used to be, so you can't see much of the people! I'll assume I saw her there...

If you saw Nora, you saw me, too! You might have seen some little ones running around the perimeter, too. They certainly like their trains, or "ejuns", as Jay calls them. My wife and I spent a couple of hours with Nora, Rick, Jay, and Charlie, both at the park and at lunch. I wish we'd had more time (and more trains!), but I barely made it back to Proviso in time for my 1:00 meeting.

I hope they can come around again when they have a few days to kill in Chicagoland.

Mook, they know about the children's museum in Lincoln, and are planning on going there.

And I agree wholeheartedly on Runza's (I still have my drink glass from there)!

Larry, I agree- what an incredible difference running the program with a console! Using a good sound system with a powered subwoofer and a programable vibrating computer chair puts me all-in the simulation. Question maybe you can answer- I can't get rid of the heads-up display in red on the top rh. Any ideas? I understand the upcoming AAR stand is software only and you build the hardware?

Jim is JEALOUS.

Nora is gallivanting all over the upper midwest meeting some good forum people and Jim is stuck working and hasn't had a day off in 17 days.

LIFE ISN'T FAIR. [:(]

And to top it off Chicago is one city I definately want to visit. I want to see the sub at the museum there and also the model train layout. One of my desires to to book a motel room overlooking the lake where they shoot off the fireworks for the big Fourth Of July Celebration. One of these years I am going to do that. Just have to wait a few years before I can, but I am going to go or else.

Another one of my goals is to ride as many of the Amtrak trains as possible. Not all at once but when I am able one a year. Starting in Chicago and seeing how they once started a journey from a major city would be interesting to me.

Well I need to go, see yall.

Nora, enjoy your trip. [;)]

In honor of Nora's visit - seems the BNSF went on vacation! Haven't heard any trains as we usually do - and had the window open last nite. Gotta go check it out - they may be rebuilding the whole Lincoln yard and I am missing it - and the trains!

But - If Nora wants to see Orange - we will show her all the construction cones throughout the city! Looks like a treasure hunt!

Well In Nora's persepctive- My favorite colour is Orange aswell, Howveer I hate a lot of orange things for example- Orange Streetlights -(Na (sodium vapor)) because of the color destortion- And I'm not to keen on orange locomotives- Although, if i see one, i'll sure as heck will take apicture of it- But I love the colour orange.

Did you know?

People who like the colour Red- did you know they anger easier then the rest of us?

People who like the colour Blue, will remain msotly calmer then the rest of us in tense situations.

People who like the colour Greeen tend to be more enviromentally friendly?

People who like the colour yellow like to have sex most often?

ok- those last two I made up.

Speaking of the color green and Kevin's environmental association with it--I am one of six people/families that regularily puts out my recycling container EVERY week. My new Mexicians neighbors do most of the time but not every week and the otherneighbors do occasionally. This has cut down on my household trash drastically. Our city started a recycling program about 10 years or so ago but it only lasted about 6 months. The previous program required that you sort everything and keep it separate for the truck to pick it up. This newer program let you throw everything into one container and they sort it later. The newer program seems to be working well and making the company who picks it up some money (selling the scrap metal, paper, etc.). I wish more people would participate in the program as it is something EVERYONE should do. Oh well, at least I am doing my part to reduce landfill trash and promote a cleaner environment. Now don't get me wrong, I am not setting in any trees with a shotgun trying to protect every tree, bird, fish, etc., but we do need to be more watchful of what we are doing to the place where we live.
