SactoGuy, Produce Tuesday is where we get produce from groceries, like Kroger,
and other local grocers, who have excess.  I sign in people coming for the produce.
The people tend to show up early:  around 7 a.m. (although there are some who like
to come between 6:15 and 6:45, so they have a low number, and get "first come,
first serve".  Today's offerings were 10# bags of potatoes, watermelons, bags of
carrot sticks, lettuce, and slaw mix.  That was all they had for us today.

Lunch specials today:

1.  leftover chicken stir fry
2.  vegetable beef soup
3.  cream of potato soup
4.  PB&J or grilled cheese sandwiches with the soups

If anyone has any requests for supper tonight, please let me know, and I'll try to
get it prepared and ready for any supper take-outs by 4 p.m. EDT.

Since I don't want to play favorites, I will toss this out for someone to do.  If you know this one, don't ruin it for the rest.

I have a knock-knock joke.

You start......

That's good, Siskitty!  Now can you manage to arch your back at just the right time?

I was chasing a butterfly, but it proved elusive today--excess baggage.  That, however, frees us up if we should need--or want--to go to venues beyond the local crossing.

Daughter called and asked about Rochelle.  I said she should check it out for herself!

Morning All,

Well my plans for shooting fall color this weekend at the Georgetown Loop might be a repeat of last weekend's Autumn / Snow mix. It seems that we've got a double cold-front shot headed our way and snow levels will be even lower than last weekend. Hmmm...still should be photogenic, though.

Don't have a whole lot more to post, so I suppose I should head about my business. Hope you all have a great day!

Was that Kevin I saw going out the door?  I haven't seen him for ages.  Nice to see the couch didn't permanently crease him!

I had to get out my fall fur nightgown last nite.  Little chilly around the Cat Haus.

Nose drooling this morning.  Let's see......one tissue here, one tissue there......

Not bad.  Look like a ferocious, tusked animal.  Or an idiot.  Take your pick.

Train horns!  Long story short - the railroad had the tracks along a local highway on edge of town long before the people moved into that area.*  The developers wanted access to the rental property they put up in the area - ergo - crossing went in.  Now the train horns are too loud, too long, too many, too noisy, too annoying.  These poor people can't go outside, can't swim, can't open windows, can't breathe, can't have any fun (wink, wink) according to the developer, so now he wants to close said crossing.   And it is the railroads fault!  The engineers deliberately make too much noise!  Sigh [sigh]

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!

Kevin, glad to see you came in last night.  Please come by and see us more
often, o.k?  And, if you want to bang your silverware on the table, go right
ahead:  just doesn't mean that you'll be served any fasterWink [;)]

Coffee is on, juice is made, and I've got hot water for tea and cocoa.

Breakfast is on the warmer bar:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits
and gravy, bagels, and blueberry and oat bran muffins.

I'll be back after I get through with Tuesday Produce.  Everyone take care, and
have a great morning.

I would like everyone to know that my interview with McKennan Hospital here in Sioux Falls went very smooth for me. I was interviewed by two different gentleman and I was asked some tough questions, but I think I handled it all very well.........especially with the second part of the interview where I sat down and talked with the man who heads up the hospital's housekeeping program. Time will tell. They are going to interview a few others and I should have an answer by this Friday.

I was asked if I would be willing to take a part-time job in the event that what I had applied for went to someone else. I said, "Absolutely, because it would be better than NOTHING!"

Evening All,

Sorry I was a bit sparse over the weekend. While Willy and Mook were dodging tornadoes (if you can dodge a tornado, you can dodge a ball?), I was up playing in the snow. Whooops! Did I just use the "S" word? Sorry about that. Just to prove the point, here's a couple shots from my excursion up to RMNP:

He he he...seriously, it was kind of fun. When I parked at Bear Lake, the snow was just starting to fall. By the time I got back, maybe an hour to an hour and a half later, there was more than 2 inches of snow piled up on my car!

I just wish I had remembered to bring my mittens. I have a pair that can "open" up to allow one to use one's fingers when extra dexterity is needed (for example, when using a camera). Lo and behold, without any kind of hand protection, my fingers were so numb by the end of the day that I was operating the camera by look rather than feel (e.g. I had to watch my finger press the shutter button because I simply couldn't feel it!). Still, a lot of fun.

Next weekend I'll be headed up to the Loop to catch some color up there. C&S No. 9 should look great surrounded by gold! (But I thought they mined mostly silver in Georgetown...........hmmm.....)

Also, one other note to the midwestern crowd: I finalized dates for my trip to IL. I'll be getting in town around 9:30 on November 15th, and will be leaving around 6:00 in the morning on November 28th. I'll be staying at White Pines State Park (NW IL) on the weekend of the 17th through the 19th. Not sure if any of you have schedules that will work with that, but I would love to get together with you if possible.

Anyways, I suppose I should be on my way. Hope you all have a great evening, and I'll catch you tomorrow!

Joe, here's two plates of spaghetti casserole for you and Matt, and a plate of
chicken stir fry for Mama.

Got some more stir fry simmering on the stove;  just need to scramble some
eggs to add to it, and it'll be ready in about 1/2 hour.

Desserts tonight:  apple, peach and cherry cobblers w/ice cream, chocolate
cake, and more ice cream.

We're currently getting rain again, and you can feel it's cooling down outside.
Supposed to get down to 46 tonight.  Guess I'd better find some long pants
for tomorrow morning.

I had to resort to MapQuest, but I finally found Surprise--or at least where it used to be!

By now, Ray's probably waiting nervously; I hope it goes well for him.  Steady employment sure beats any of the alternatives (with the possible exception of retirement, he says as he thinks enviously toward New England).

Now back to my part-time jobs (assigned today to keep me occupied on my day off from gainful employment).  A newsletter needs editing--the grass has finally gotten as mowed as it's going to, today.

The later in the evening it got and nothing developed I was becoming more and more certain that it would all develop in Iowa, just because that is the way it always ends up and also the dryline and cold front were fast approaching. I'm surprised you didn't get any rain at all. The radar did show a couple of little cells that looked like they went right over Lincoln. The National Weather Service still hasn't rated the tornado that hit Omaha, but my guess is F0 or F1.

Lots of homework already and there is still one more class to go. Off to do some of that homework right now.

Morning.  Absolutely fabulous weather here on the Maine coast and I will not be on here very long.  Just waiting for the coffee lady to return and then we are off to the wilds.

The natives are smart enough to stay away from the tourist haunts, so the people we speak to have an accent that goes along with their license plates from midwestern states.  Still, there is a chance we will meet someone who talks like Dani's grandmother before we leave the state.

Have a good day.

Good Monday morning to all!  Well, we had a terrific day yesterday.  Met mudchicken and
Boss Hen, and had dinner with them at Texas Roadhouse.  Very good meal with very
good people!  Also fantastic conversation.  I could have listened to them both, all night
long; but they had to be up early this morning for meetings, so it was an early night for
us.  Wish the visit could have been longer.

Coffee is on, and I've made fresh oj, and oj/tangerine (both no pulp).  There is also hot
tea and hot chocolate/cocoa for anyone wanting either of them.

Got Tree's bagels ready for him, and we also have bacon, sausage links and buckwheat
pancakes w/plenty of maple syrup.

Watching for rain to come in in our area.  Supposed to be here shortly.

I agree with the statement that Cherokee Woman made about how burning leaves in the autumn can get you into trouble with the fire department. When I was a kid during the early 1960's, my Dad was cleaning out the basement and was hauling a lot of junk out to the alley where he had a bon fire going. It was 1964 or '65 and the Sioux Falls Fire Department had opened a new engine company just south of us, and on the other side of the alley. There was an old gentleman in the neighborhood who was kind of an uncle figure to all of us kids and we used to referr to him as "Uncle Bud". My Dad had gone into the basement to collect another pile of stuff to burn when a couple fire fighters came down the alley to find Bud standing there, watching the fire. They said to him something like, "Don't you know that it is illegal to be burning anything in this alley?" Uncle Bud covered for my Dad with this response, "What fire? I don't see no fire. Do you see a fire?" The fire department must have thought that Uncle Bud was off his rocker.

I got out of bed at six this morning, and at last report we had an outdoor temperature of 42 degrees, with some drizzle coming out of the clouds. It is not supposed to get much warmer than 50 degrees this afternoon. I will be facing a job interview this afternoon at 2:00 with one of our local hospitals. My line of work is custodial/light building maintenance and I had applied for a position on this hospital's housekeeping staff. It will be full time if they offer me the position. It has been a long time since I last worked a full 40 hour job, I've been getting by with a couple part time jobs for the last several months. I've got a few people in my own church praying for a positive outcome in this job interview for me.
