Yum, sounds like some good eats go on in here.  Reminds me of Sunday dinner at my grandmothers when I was young.  My uncle used to always say that he needed side-cars on his plate.

Anyone care to let me in on "CINCSCOCOM" in the sig lines?  Is it an inside joke?

Just ask Aimee...

She says if I turned sideways and stuck out my tongue, I would look like a zipper....

Been that way all my life, still fit in the same size jeans I wore in highschool.

Ray, always enjoyed it when Granny Clampett was "doctoring" someone on The
Beverly Hillbillies
.  She sure was a character, wasn't she?!?!

Mudchicken, you must have uploaded the wrong pronunciation for Louisville:
it's Loo-a-vull. (the a is the short sound).

Ed, just for you, there'll be diced fried taters w/onion (and avacado and bacon
on the side for you), with supper tonight.  And there's plenty of beef stew, corn-
bread and cream of potato soup left some lunch (even with time time distance
for our friends on the west coast.  I don't do small quantities of anything, when
I cook or bake.  When you grow up in the country like I did, when you learn to cook,
you learn to cook enough for an army, or you don't cook.

Randy - or anyone with a little farming experience - does corn grown for silage look any different from corn harvested for market?  Where does sweet corn come into the mix?

--John Deere 4240 pulling chopper pulls into parking lot, Randy climbs out, spends a few minutes going over the chopper.

Whew, ok, everything is in order.  Time for breakfast, and I think I'll take a bowl of oatmeal, with rasins and brown sugar.

Got down to 38 here last night, according to the Bug, had frost advisories out, and freeze warnings off to the north.

Mookie--yep, the idea is to harvest at the right moisture, corn silage (the whole plant chopped up) should be about 60 percent moisture, and when we do shelled corn (just the kernels), we want about 25 percent moisture for our Harvestore.  Corn around here has matured, and is in the process of drying down, beans are about the same, friend of mine from high school said he wanted to start combining beans next week.

Well, gotta get going, I have a field to clean.  See everyone later.

If we keep eating this way, we're gonna have to add a cardiac wing to the Diner....

I'll take some of those potatoes, hold the avacado...

The rolls sound good, too, especially if they're still warm.

I do believe there is still some apple pie left...

Good morning, everyone. I slept in this morning, didn't get out of bed until 7:00 when getting up here at 6:00 is usually the norm for me. It's raining here and at last report we had a temperature of 50 degrees. That is certainly a lot warmer than what it was 24 hours ago. The rain here is supposed to continue through tomorrow and on into the weekend. For some reason I like rainy weather, especially if it comes in September.

I was up late last night, composing a lengthy letter to a very nice couple who live out in Kentucky, and I didn't get to bed until 11:30. I hope to finish this letter later this afternoon or tonight.

I have a cousin in Grand Lake Colorado who had sent me a birthday card and in her letter that she had enclosed with the card, she told me that it had been snowing in Grand Lake while she was writing her letter to me. The Grand Lake, Colorado area is beautiful and I wish that I could have been there to photograph the snow coming down.

I wonder how long it will be before it starts snowing here in Sioux Falls. Some freshly fallen snow is good for photograhphic purposes, but we really don't need it at this point.

I think I will be making the trek out to one of our Hy-Vee grocery stores to turn in an application for employment later this afternoon, rain or no rain, and I've got a long hike ahead of me, about a 5 mile round trip.

Have a good day, everyone!

Sorry, but I can't let you hold on to that title.  We had 36 degrees here this morning, with patches of frost here and there.

Sorry, but you both loose. It got down to 31 degrees here in Sioux Falls early this morning, 9/20.

Ok - so my temperature didn't win, but I still have something to be happy about - first post on page 817! Wink [;)]

Mookie - So far not a drop here either, but radar shows that it is only about 3 miles from Omaha, so it has to come soon.

Welcome back, Jim- glad to hear that Duchess is doing better.  I've seen you on AIM every now and then and thought about pinging you, but figured I'd better leave you alone.

Spent last evening packing our son and daughter-in-law's possessions into the minivan; tonight we'll pack our own clothes and hit the road for Florida tomorrow morning.  I'll certainly be on the lookout for those free internet PCs that hotels sometimes have in their lobbies, and let everyone know how we're doing.  Should be an uneventful trip weather-wise, as there are no big storms headed towards the land of orange groves and theme parks.

Jim!!!  Welcome back!!  You've sure been missed around here!

Cannonball, don't worry:  I'm not miffed at anyone for helping out around here
yesterday.  Allergies were really bad yesterday, and just wasn't around as much.

We woke up here in Louisville with a temp of 46 this morning.

Tree, thanks so much for the apple pie!  That was delicious.

Mookie, if those flowers are in the sun, I may join you there.

Coffee is on, juice is made, and have the hot chocolate and cocoa ready.

In honor of Jim being back, we have sausages and sausage gravy w/biscuits
this morning, along with some bagels for Tree, and some oatmeal w/raisins &
spice and toast, and scrambled eggs.

Getting ready to put some beef stew, beef vegetable soup, and cream of potato
soup on for the specials today.  (Lunch and supper tonight).  Will also have plenty
of cornbread to go with the stew.

And since apples are aplenty right now, will bake some more apple pies, apple
turnovers, and apple dumplings for desserts today.

Everyone have a great day!!

James!  And Duchess!  Welcome back! It has been pretty sparse on regulars in the diner here lately.

Not to worry - The Driver feeds the birds every morning in our backyard and on weekends, he does it before anything else - in his t-shirt and boxers he wears for sleep.  Course, there isn't much traffic in the backyard, but he is just as covered as anyone on the street.  You are good to go, guy!

Tree:  lattice is easy - just roll out your top crust and cut with a sharp knife - strips up to 1" and lay them first one way and then ta'other.  You don't have to interlace, just lay them there.  No steam holes required.

Anyone try the Fuji apples?  I like my apples sweet and crisp or mushy doesn't matter.  These are excellent for eating.

Randy - we looked at the corn/soybeans locally last weekend - thought of you - must have been the 'corn'.   They are getting really dead looking.  Guess that is the best sign?

Joe - had my 7 year old grandson over last nite - I thought of Matt.  They would do well together.  He brought his Thomas engine with him and several others in the crew.  Then I got my Locomotive magazine and he grabbed that right away and started looking through it while we were talking.  Ah - that's my boy! Now to show him the difference between 70's and 9's.....

Carl - flower power! Little wind on the way.

Willy - rain forecast last nite, nothing but the neighbors porch light showed up all nite.  Maybe you will fare better than we did.  Supposed to rain on the Huskers this weekend.  Won't make a difference!  Blah.....

Going to go hide under the last of the flowers in the garden.  Maybe whistle the theme from Brian's Song........

Morning everyone.......

Well, we're going to try the corn silage thing again today, going to head to my parents again, will probably be a "chop 'til I drop" day with the rain forecast for Friday.  Hopefully the field dried sufficiently to avoid needing a second tractor to get through the worst spots, I don't care to bury anything.

Apple pie and cider sound REALLY good for a late evening snack, might have to swing by in the tractor and chopper for a quick bite tomorrow evening, if it's on the menu.

I'm one of those people who love driving in the snow, but having a 3/4 ton, 4wd diesel pickup does help greatly (just stay off the brakes, that's what downshifting is for).Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

See everyone later, I might swing in quick before I head to the cornfields.

During her ordeal I had to work and try to take care of her, plus doing other things too. I never get a lot of sleep and was getting even less during this time. Since I work second shift and stay up late I am not a morning person. I am very clumsey during the first hour I am awake and just not operating at 100%. Thank God so far I did have presence of mind to do so, even tho many mornings I didn't remember doing so.  The other morning I got up make my run to the boy's room, started making coffee and took Duchess out for her first walk of the morning. Here it is 8:30 in the morning, on a school day no less, when I had my normal thought "I hope I put on some blue jean shorts." Well I looked down as I always do to check and much to my surprise there I was in the middle of the street wearing only a t-shirt and my boxer shorts. Needless to say the walk to the house was very brisk.  While I can safely say that I've never gone outside dressed inappropriately, I used to work for a church, and on a couple ocaisions I have had nightmares where I would be walking around inside the church wearing nothing but my underwear.
