I love that old salt (but read him on Sundays only).  His way of impressing the ladies is something I hope I don't have, though.

Rough, sleepless night last night.  Well, sleepless, anyway.  Started out the night with a/c on because of the stickiness, but turned it off later.  Still wet out there with a chance of rain, but I hope to finally get to the lawn today.  Needs it badly.

Not meaning to get too cozy or anything, but is there room on the hammock, SJ?

First things first - Jay and Tree do you ever read Non-Sequitur in the comics section of the paper?  They have the old "sailor" from Maine, I think.  I have such a flat accent, I have to read it very carefully aloud to get the right "inflection". 

Most certainly.  I don't usually have a problem with "Down Easters," since I live not far from there. 

Interesting side note - the phone company had a devil of a time with voice recognition in New England.  Five turns into "Fye-uv," nine becomes "Nye-un."  Etc, etc.

See, See - I told him!  Yes I did....Yep, Yep.....!  I am going to hold a class in meteorology "weather prediction for Eastern NE".....I could save Willy2 a lot of $ in college!  And there was a surprise in Surprise NE.  (Yes there is a Surprise NE)  They had a tornado.  Oh BC - I can see you having a tussle with this.

Friday - it rained it poured but for only a few minutes at a time - in between sunshine breaks. 

Sat - Driver fished - 1 bass, 2 bluegill - all catch and release.  I napped and read papers - listened to the trains going by - couldn't see them at all.  It was sunny and quite warm all day long.  Went into town at noon to see some trains before heading home.  Found Willy!  Kept thinking it was him from a distance, but he was w-a-a-y too tall.  Keep forgeting that teens grow daily at this age!

Sat nite - cool, but no rain.  Sunday ditto.  Very, Very windy.  Looked like a dandelion gone to seed both days!  Bad fur day.

Well, on to other projects.  Must alphabetize the left overs in the fridge and sample to make sure they are ok.    It's a tough job but.......

Ah - almost forgot.  Heard from Dan - he is ok - he is very busy.  I am sure he doesn't alphabetize the fridge, so how busy can he be?????

Good Monday morning to all!  Well, we had a terrific day yesterday.  Met mudchicken and
Boss Hen, and had dinner with them at Texas Roadhouse.  Very good meal with very
good people!  Also fantastic conversation.  I could have listened to them both, all night
long; but they had to be up early this morning for meetings, so it was an early night for
us.  Wish the visit could have been longer. 

Coffee is on, and I've made fresh oj, and oj/tangerine (both no pulp).  There is also hot
tea and hot chocolate/cocoa for anyone wanting either of them.

Got Tree's bagels ready for him, and we also have bacon, sausage links and buckwheat
pancakes w/plenty of maple syrup. 

Watching for rain to come in in our area.  Supposed to be here shortly. 

Cannonball, the smell of burning leaves in the autumn around here, will get you a visit
from the fire dept., (possibly police also), along with a hefty fine.    But, sure do miss
that smell in the autumn.

And cheeseheads everywhere are converting to Bears fans! (me included!!)

Don't worry, Jay, nothing more than a few rumbles of thunder happened here this evening, and just a light rain to go with it, enough to force the farmers out of the fields for a day.  Took a drive around the field we were supposed to chop this weekend, glad we didin't try it, was pretty wet yet.

I am now predicting that the Packers will have a very long and hard season, seeing as they lost to Nawlins, a middle of the road team.  Thus, I have converted to a Bears fan!

Good evening all, any of that turkey and mashed taters left?  I've been extremely busy lately- we decided a week ago that our master bathroom whirlpool tub had to go, as it was developing a case of mildew behind the tub surround walls.  So we made a trip to Menards and found a shower stall with the same base size as the tub, and I've been working destruction/construction all week.  One thing that I've discovered is that I'm not a very good plumber when it comes to soldering copper pipe (our bathroom is located in an addition to our master bedroom that's sitting on posts, and the water supply for the tub actually ran under the tub base to get to the other end without it freezing in the winter, so I had to redo it to fit it under the shower base).  I keep finding slow leaks that I have to shut the water off and redo the offending joints.  Things won't get any slower this week- we're headed to Florida starting Friday to take our son and daughter-in-law's possessions down to them.  Another looooonnnggg drive, and this one won't have the train-watching opportunities that my last drive had (from previous experience).

On the weather front, we didn't get much from this round- just some showers early this morning and again around mid-afternoon.

Anyhoo, enough about my life.  Hope everyone else is having a good weekend!

Jay - Back when the ex and I were still together, we would visit her family in New Hampshire (excuse me - New Hampshah). Wish I'd bought the book I saw there once entitled "How to Speak New Hampshah."

Most of our train crew went across the street from the depot for supper tonight, so I missed the feast here (the club sandwich was good, though.)  Not a bad weekend, business-wise, but boy, the colors are coming on fast up in the mountains.  I even called my daughter and suggested that she and her fiance change their visit to the railroad to next weekend, lest the color be gone (as they certainly will be) by the time they had planned to come up in October.

Next weekend should be a zoo - colors will be peaking and so will the leaf-peekers.

On top of that, we have a "new" conductor, in training from trainman.  He said he missed me last weekend - found out how hard it is to do everything.  Normally if I'm on board, I'll collect the tickets and can handle some of the other stuff that needs to be / should be done on the train.  We was all by himself.

On the other hand, he had lunch (ham and scalloped potatoes) on board a private car that was visiting...  We usually just get sandwiches..

I could have biked...

Willy, I saw the most impressive storm front to my west just as the sun rose, about 6:30 this morning.  Then I had to work.  I was talking to Pat a little later, and she said the approaching storms had disappeared off the radar!  Sure enough, that line of thunderheads (which had been on the horizon for mearly 180 degrees) was gone!

So I had a nice, dry day to work in, and for a while after work.  Had I biked, I probably wouldn't have had to put up with the Sunday drivers that were out and about that afternoon.  Like the super-hot Camaro that was doing 25 in the left lane, the person making a left turn out of the left traffic lane (instead of the left-turn lane), the limo that had two speeds--slow and stopped, and on and on.

But we joined the throng later in the afternoon, going out to dinner and watching the action (all Metra and Amtrak while we were around) on the BNSF Raceway from LaGrange to Downers Grove.  And while we were out, it rained buckets!  A lot of the streets we were driving on had standing water, but at home we only had about a quarter inch.  More falling, though, as we speak.

Willy's dessert ideas have made me hungry.  I think we still have a couple of Michigan's best peaches in the fridge.

Checking in from Bar Harbor (or Bah Habah) tonight.  Weather has been great so far and we should get a couple more good days for looking around Arcadia NP and the rest of the island.  After that we will be heading just a little west, and then a swing down to Boston for a few more days.

If any of that heavy Midwest weather hits Delavan, can anybody run by the house and check it out?

Well, the rain has finally left Philadelphia, PA. Thank goodness, as much as I like to go out river watching, I don't care to drive back and fourth in the rain. Temps cooled down a bit here after the rain though, which I'm real happy about.

It had to be one of the hardest rains I've ever seen and there was a little hail mixed in too. One tornado did touch down on the southwest side of Omaha, but didn't do much damage.

CW - How about roast turkey and mashed potatoes & gravy for Sunday dinner? My mom has some peaches that I could use to make either peach pie or peach cobbler for dessert.

Willy, thanks for your suggestion!  Roasted turkey w/mashed taters and gravy it is.  Along
with some buttered peas, and dinner rolls.  And peach cobbler sounds really good, too!!

It should all be ready for consumption around 5 p.m. EDT.

at 9:15, just now getting my eyes open enough to get in here.  Knew I've got some
very good people here, who are more than capable of taking over, when I don't get
in on time!

Joe, thanks for putting on the coffee, and making the juice.

Ray,  I'd love to have some of that whole wheat bread!  That's the only bread we eat
in our house.  (Although, I will eat cornbread.  Mutt's not much on cornbread.)

What would anyone like to have for Sunday Dinner today?  Need to make a grocery
run this morning, so please let me know, in case I need to pick something up.

Good morning everyone, I reckon fall has arrived here in the Dakotas. I've been up for an hour and we have a temperature of 48 degrees, it actually feels like 42 degrees. I noticed yesterday that the few trees in my yard are beginning to change their colors, and we might be getting some rain later this afternoon.

I poured myself 12 ounces of orange juice and brewed a fresh pot of coffee this morning, and I think I might hit my neighborhood grocery store for a few plain cake donuts after I have been to church this morning. I should probably pick up enough donuts to share with everyone in this forum. I baked a batch of homemade bread yesterday afternoon, and I think I will do it again this afternoon. I think I will use some stone ground flour and turn out a batch of my whole wheat bread. Anytime I am baking anything, this house of mine sure smells good........you would be able to smell the aroma of freshly baked bread even before you walk in my front door.

They upped the probability here from 40 percent to 70, and I can see the fringes of the storm on our local radar.  So I won't be biking today.  Pat should be able to walk to church and back, though, before it hits.

Tree - You are right. The worst of it missed Lincoln, though. Here in Omaha we were under a tornado warning for about 45 mintues, but the core of the storm as well as the hook echo went just north of my house, so we are still dry and didn't get too much in the way of wind. A squall line is now headed at us, so we're not out of the woods yet.

Evening everyone.......

Well, we won't be chopping this weekend, account the bagger has not shown up yet, and the field is still one big mudhole (but drying up nicely with the wind and sun we recieved today).  Dad wants me to come home next weekend to help, should have everything ready by then, but I'll have to use more vacation than I'd like to.  Oh well, it'll cost him this time.

Meantime, took my sister shopping for a used midsize truck, out of the eight dealerships we visited, we found a grand total of..... two trucks.  Everything else was either out of her price range, or had too many miles on it.  The two we found are very nice, though, Monday she's going down to hammer out final prices on both of them.

Found out that Racine County is getting in on the ethanol craze, a company has proposed to build a plant in Union Grove, which will be a big shot in the arm to the ex-Racine and Southwestern (now CP) line.

Your wiethur (that's a bad spell of weather, by the way) is due to hit us sometime tomorrow.  I'll probably be able to bike to work in the morning, but may have to call the rescue squad (whom you'll also meet on the 7th, we hope!) to get home.

Tonight we had some Dutch-oven cooking in front of the oldest house in Lombard (now a museum).  Pot roast, scalloped potatoes, veggies (done with the roast), and apple pie--all cooked over an open fire (spiced cider and coffee were also brewed in pots over the same fire).  And right across the street...trains!  Not much happened while we were preparing the food, but when we sat down to eat the action was nearly nonstop.
