Good afternoon everyone.

Gawd, the wind outside is just insane! Shock [:O] We had wind gusts as high as 30 mph with the average around 20 mph--leaves are everywhere on the ground.

I was vindicated today--took a look at the radar and decided I didn't want to bike.  As we drove out, we got a brief, but intense, downpour.  So I didn't have to apologize the length of the trip for getting Pat up.

After another strong shower in the morning (saw the lightning, but heard no thunder), it dried up.  I think we may be in for something tonight, though.

Sister J (had to call you that, 'cuz I'm confessing), I had a great time today.  Called the yardmaster at the other end to tell him about some cars (or sections of one car) that didn't show properly on one track.  He got all upset at how he shouldn't be the one to mess with the tracks in the computer, how we should fix them if we screwed them up (we hadn't!), and so on.  I said that I didn't have to tell anybody what I found; I thought I was doing him a favor.  Then I hung up on him.  He got on the intercom and he and out conductor started going at it.  I don't think anything was resolved, but he came out looking like a big jerk, and I just sat back and laughed.

And if nobody fixed it, the computers may tell you that two units of a five-unit stack car were delivered to CSX, and the other three units are on the limbo track in our yard!

Rookie Chris:  Mookie is my sister, because I adopted her.  When I call her my "little sister" it deals mostly with her sense of curiosity and loyalty, not with age.  So I'm proud to be "BC" (Brother Carl) to her.  In non-virtual life, well...she might explain things to you next week.

Good Afternoon.

Our rainfall total at my house was 1.40 inches so the forecasts were right again. It looks like quite the severe storm outbreak setting up across the Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois region today. Everyone from those parts, please stay safe!

Not much else new from Omaha today. I shall return on Saturday morning.

TGIF!!!!

Chili is ready (mild w/hot extras on side for those who want spicy hot chili), and the
fryers are going with fish (trout, catfish, halibut, cod, and perch are on today's menu).

The sides today for the fish:  mac & cheese, fries, slaw.

Dessert today:  just took six apple pies out of the ovens.  Also putting some apple
turnovers into the cast iron skillet iron, to fry up.

Mornin  Everyone

We had some rain last night after I got home from work.  It was one of them strange rains.  We had normal sky (no clouds) directly overhead but clouds around in other directions.  So it might rain for 10 minutes then not rain for 10 to 15 minutes.  It was like that until I went to bed.

We have a 40 % chance of rain through the weekend.  The sun is hiding in and out of the clouds as I type.

We have leaves drying up and falling off the tries now because of lack of rain.  It is still too early here for leaves to change color.  But the last 3 or 4 years since it has been so dry we just have not had too much color.   Sad [:(]

The George Bush loco came in late last night.  To my surprise it didn't have any rotten eggs on it or sacks of well you know what.  Shock [:O]  It is going to KC for some new mods.  I think it will head out before dark tonight.

Well everyone take care.

Cannonball:  I've never heard of that being done before, I don't think it could be done now, the shattered glass coming out of the silo unloaders would wreak havoc on all the cows stomachs!!

Speaking of silage, got the field cleared yesterday, although it took some assistance with a second tractor to get through a few muddy spots and up the sand hill a few times.  the last load was done in the rain, which turned the field into a giant Slip 'n' Slide!  Made good use of the differential lock on the tractor, sliding around in the wet clay.

Mookie:  The dissertation on different varieties of corn will have to wait until I get back home to my computer, down at the public library using theirs because of family's computer problems at home!

Will probably see everyone on Monday, have fun in the high country, elder Chris!

Waffles for breakfast this morning sounds pretty good to me. I'll have to stop in at the Diner and grab a couple of them.

I've looked up the weather for Louisville, Kentucky where Locomutt and Cherokee Woman live, and they are definitely getting some rain, and they are going to be pretty well socked in with rain all day. The weather conditions here where I live are pretty much the same. It rained here almost non-stop yesterday, and I just looked out my front door and it kind of looks like we might have more rain coming. As long as it doesn't start snowing here until at least the very end of October, I'm happy. But if and when it does start snowing, I'll take that anytime over freezing rain.

* Pokes head in door and looks around for the cat

Morning ya'll,

It's going to be a . . .  ummm paw paw waffles, yoink . . . nice day here in NC; a little cloudy, but nice none the less.

Mookie, would you believe that my accent is non-existent compared to real North Carolinans (I'm a transplant)?

Well I guess I *should* get back to work now.

Morning All,

Not a whole lot to report here. Just another day in paradise I suppose!

Mooks, grabbed a paw-paw waffle. Good stuff! (And it reminds me of IL...I have a friend who used to live in Paw Paw, IL).

MC, depending on what the weather does to me, I may have to come visit you out at CRRM. According to weather.com, it looks like it could be a cold, rainy, snowy day up in Georgetown. Sometimes that's great for photo ops, but then again, sometimes the photographer gets a little tired of being soaked to the bone in cold conditions.

Well, I've got a couple bids that I have to get out today, so I must be on my way. Hope you all have a great day!

TTFN!

Chicken flies back home w/o incident.....Hmmm......need new lure in tackle box.

Rain here yesterday - winding up to smack everyone east of us.  Looks like Carl and Modelcar are getting a dose this morning.  Houston Ed even had a small shot.  Then the rest of you (snark, snark!)

CW - in honor of TGIF - I had a little help and pre-made some waffles.  You will notice they all have an imprint in the middle of them.  These are paw-paw waffles.  There was one that I had to throw away - I accidently sat in it and it looked more like kiss than a paw.  (giggle)  Maybe should have saved it for posteriority.

Groan...

That's bad even for me!

(slinks out door to garden to wait for Briankle)

Joe, thanks for making the coffee and juice this morning.

Mookie, thank you so much for fixing the waffles this morning!  They are definitely
eye-catching, with the paw prints in the middle.  Kind of makes a nice indentation
for the butter to go into.

Just got through putting chili on for today's lunch.  That will do nicely, for anyone who
doesn't want fish today.

It is raining here.  Had already started when I awoke at 5:55.  About 20 minutes ago,
it was really pouring, when I looked out the kitchen window.  Now, it has slacked up
for awhile.

Everyone stay as dry as possible, and have a good, safe morning.

Looks like we'll be seeing some of that rain on Saturday and Sunday - which will make the leaf-peepers less than happy.  Hopefully they will be scattered, with some sun in the middle, and not enough to knock all the leaves off the trees.

Carl - Beach U!

One of our trainmen is learning to be a conductor - he's got the job on Sunday.  He worked as conductor a couple of weeks ago, and ended up working the train alone - taking tickets, etc, etc.  First thing he said to me last time he saw me (I couldn't work the day he was conductor) was "Did I miss you!"

I'll be there to bail him out on Sunday.  The first run is the worst - we push the train, so somebody has to be at the other end calling clear track and crossings.  No time to collect tickets if you're standing in the vestibule.  Heck, I even punch a smiley face on the kids tickets...

And we won't even talk about narrating the trip....

Randy ... Do some folk still put gallon glass jugs with cobs stuck in the neck in between loads of silage blown into the silo???  I would guess  the juice would ease the pain of stickers from wild cucumbers after picking corn all day . It also keeps cattle warm  in winter . HEH  HEH .  Cannonball.

Carl,

Thanks.  I've been allowed to know now.  I'll still have to figure it out for myself, though.

Is it dinner time yet?  I've heard the eats are excellent and I could use a good old fashioned home cooked meal.

Evening All,

Jim: So glad to hear that Duchess is doing better. Hope all continues well, and hope you can grab some free time to stop into the diner every now and again!

MC: Good to have you back. I'd hate to think that you were missing out on all these opportunities to play in the snow! I've got plans involving the GLRR on Saturday. I'm afraid that it might turn from a fall color shoot to a winter weather shoot, though! 12+ inches in the mountains? Well now...

Chad: Good to see you back, too. I had been wondering where you were hiding. Your sickness didn't involve recuperation time in Cajon or anything did it? Mischief [:-,]Evil [}:)]

Carl: Congrats to Baby Girl! Hope she has an enjoyable time teaching and achieving the Master's/Doctor's combo!

Well, I must go check the skies. If I've got a chance of some sun out west, I think I must to take a trip on CO Hwy. 93 to bag a roster shot or two of a mystery locomotive.

Hope you all have a great evening!

Glad to hear Duchess is doing all right, Jim.  I was worried about you, too!

Well, Sis, I've noticed an improved esprit de core, since you mentioned apples.  Larry, if there's any pie left over I'll take a small slice, please!

They're promising that we'll get our rain (we do have some flowers for it to power) by morning, and it'll turn ugly later in the day, then stay wet for the weekend.  We just got over one of the wettest Augusts on record, and it looks like September might be working up that way, too.

Caught the butterfly yesterday; that's five this month.

Chris (Rookie Chris, that is!), we'll have to let CINCSCOCOM Prime clue you in, if he wants to!  There's a little hint in my post before this one.  Welcome to the Forum, by the way--watch out for miffed kitties!

Other news:  Baby Girl is going to be a teaching assistant at UCSB this year--this while embarking on a program that will give her a Master's and a Doctorate simultaneously.  Dr. Mook, you'll have to meet Dr. Linda Middlefiddle sometime.  (That's funny--I have a sister-in-law who is already Dr. Linda...must run in the family!)
