I am not sure about the plans for rides, but Matt has been looking at the Tour de Nebraska web site. He a pretty serious biker, does 15-20 miles everyother day between Tennis meets. Tires me out just thinking about it-at my age sitting somewhere watching trains is great excercise. (Well, I will hike a few blocks to get a good view)

I will watch for him - and he will love it here in June - Houston has nothing over us on humidity! But we do have some very good and very long bike trails - which were originally train tracks, so he will get a work out! Is he doing the BRAN ride - I think that takes place about that time of year - ? (Frankly, I would do it in October or March - when it wouldn't be soooooo hot!)

Some years ago I discovered another advantage of diet soda. I was at a zoo with a friend and we had purchased large cups of Coke, diet in my case. When we put the cups down on the outdoor table, the drink with real sugar was instantly covered with bees (who could tell real sugar). I prefer Lemon Diet Coke to Vanilla, but Vanilla Coke is really like syrup!

Isn't the triple crown the symbol of Sweden? (called Tre Kronor there!) They have that badge (three gold crowns in a blue circle) on their military aircraft, and a number of Swedish Navy ships have been named "Tre Kronor" over the years.

Have heard horror stories of people drinking a pop - and getting tangled up with a bee that was having a sip, also! Ugh! [:(]

You should stay away from all but the depot diner! A quesy stomach and you are eating that? And running - there's a sideache waiting to happen!

No Grma Mookie thinks you should have hot oatmeal - skim milk, dry toast - some jelly and a banana - oh and a dose of Metamucil wouldn't hurt! Gotta remember you are getting older, you know! Lay off the tabasco! Causes burn holes!

I can drink tea with or without sugar, but with is much better. Now coffee is a different story. Black, no sugar, no cream. Just the way God intended it to be consumed. [;)]

Well I worked another 10 hour shift so I am going to walk the dog and take my nap soon. Yall have a good day. [:)]
I agree with Jim - I drink diet vanilla Coke, eat no sugar on my cereal and drink my coffee black. If you get away from sugar for awhile - you can't go back. It is like skim vs whole milk. We have way too much sugar and salt in our food today - and if you get away from both - you would be surprised at how horrible it tastes when it is oversugared/oversalted. Mookie likes to eat too well to diet, but don't use sugar or salt for those reasons. Plus her teef hurt if she gets too much sugar - except chocolate cake.

While we are talking about "diet" type drinks, I'm always amused by the people that grab a bottle of Diet Coke, but then proceed to order hot chips. Hmmm...on a diet??[%-)]

Is it just my imagination or does something seem strange when you see those 350lb people sitting in a resturant drinking a diet coke....

You're gonna have to do a little more than just switching to diet pop folks.

I wonder if that was the start of us railfans taking pictures of trains.?

$90 is a lot of money in those days, heck it's still a lot of money these days.

Polaroid sounds like it was the camera for the rich back then.

I'm definitely with you on the no diet ANYTHING. I never liked artificial sweeteners; then I moved to England and after a while I noticed that a LOT of products over there contain artificial sweeteners, and not just the sweet types of products you might expect. And they quite often don't have the "diet" or "light" label that raises a red flag for me. That's when I became an obsessive label-checker. [:D]

However, Sweet 'n Low isn't aspartame, it's saccharin. Equal is aspartame. Also, acesulfame K/acesulfame potassium and sucralose (Splenda) are artificial sweeteners. I stay away from all of them...

I agree, Aspertame is a cheap, addictive cuban sugar that gives people brain cancer. I read it in YM.

Well, I better walk the dog and make tracks for bed. It will be 4 am before I get to sleep. [:(]

Thanks, everyone. I think I remember how to change diapers (on girls, anyway!), but, knowing those kids, probably won't get much of a chance. I have most of the calendar year yet to get used to the idea, and it will probably take most of that time.

I think they'd like a boy, but my family is so predominately girls (for three or four generations, now) that producing a male would be either extremely lucky, long overdue, or both. Even the proud papa-to-be has two sisters (one of which has a daughter now) and no brothers.

Anyhow, there will definitely have to be nursery care provided at my other daughter's wedding (in July of '05).

Puter acting up - connections are lousy this morning - they will blame it on the weather.

Sat nite we barely got any rain at all. Last nite - we got a lot of nice rain and some noise. But no really bad weather. Just some much needed rain.

I drink Diet Vanilla Coke - Like the taste as well as Diet Dr Pepper. Can't do the sugar drinks - make teeth hurt! But...... I drink it flat and warm. Only a little - and the only way I can drink any pop. I am sensitive, you know....[8D]

Congrats Grandpa Carl! You will love every minute of it. And since you are a family of girls, maybe it will be a boy! But take either one - have both and they are all nice!

Will wait until puter either heals or throws up - to post anything more.

Carl, CONGRATULATIONS GRANDPA!!

What a wonderful, glorious time for all of you! I would imagine you will, in the coming
months, remember when your daughter was born, and reliving ALL those first moments. Better start remembering how to change diapers!!

Cool deal there, Carl.
So, you will have a grandbaby to spoil above and beyond...
You wife has a really good excuse to sew a new baby sized quilt, and you get a new railfan to teach...

And you can send him/her home at night.
Not a bad deal.

Diet Mug Root Beer is pretty good stuff and Diet Cream Soda is ok. Sometime you want a change and I will go with Diet 7 Up, Diet Mug, Diet Cream Soda. The Diet Rite Cola was ok. Diet Coke is the mainstay here. But I actually have been cutting down on sodas lately.
