Thanks! Dinner [dinner]

My cold is getting a little better, thanks to taking Vicks DayQuil tablets every 6-7 hours. I'm also drinking a lot of orange juice, too.

Yes, Joe, there is plenty of pizza left from last night.  So it is on the warmer bar.

Thank you for making the coffee, juice, and hot chocolate.  I always appreciate the help
I get from several of you here in the Diner.

Sunday Dinner today will be:  pork chop abracadbra, with real potatoes being cooked,
to make mashed potatoes (no instant potatoes here in the DD/CS).  The other sides
will be:  garden salad, peas & carrots, broccoli, brussels sprouts, creamed corn, and
corn bread.

Hope everyone has a great day today.  Going to be a warmer day today, and mostly
cloudy around here, before the next round of rain comes in tomorrow night, Tuesday.
But at least with warmer temps, the rain shouldn't be too bad to put up with.

Well, looks like I cooked today for NOTHING!!  Seems no one has come in here
today, since Joe and I were in here this morning. Sad [:(]

The pork chop abracadbra and the side dishes are in the fridge, if anyone should
happen to wander in here this evening.

Sorry, CW, it was such a nice day here that I spent the better part of it working outside on the lawn.  I'll take some pork chops and sides, nuke 'em please.

I spent the day at the CNYNRHS Train Show in Syracuse.  The PCA would have been better than that hot dog I had for lunch.  On the other hand, I stopped at the newlyweds for a visit after the show and got leftovers (a pasta/chicked dish) which were pretty good.

The pups are now safely ensconced in Maryland, and my house is now peaceful and quiet again.....  It does appear that my dog may have learned a trick from the kid's female mini-doxie - she now spins around when she wants attention, although not in as tight a circle as the little one....

What a pleasant weekend it has been here in Omaha. High temperatures were in the lower 60s both Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies. And, 70s are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hope everyone has a great week!

...We here in central Indiana enjoyed 50's and upper 50's Saturday and Sunday with sunny and partly sunny skies.  That promoted yard cleanup with mowing and some leaf pick up and mulching.  Looks pretty good now.  But there are more leaves on western neighbor's trees so more of the same will have to be repeated later.  Warmer week is forecast ahead...Wouldn't mind if we got some of the upper 60's and maybe even 70's here that I hear was about 3 states west of us.

Good morning everyone. I think I'll stop in at the Diner this morning for a cup of hot chocolate. It's slowly warming up here in my hometown, right now we have a temperature of 28 degrees and it is supposed to warm up to about 60 by 3:00 this afternoon. I figure I'd better enjoy the fall weather here while I still can.

I will be making the trek to our local offfice of the Salvation Army within a few hours, I had worked for the Salvation Army as a bell ringer last year during the Christmas season......it was a paid position. This past Friday afternoon the gal who was my supervisor called me and asked me if I would be available to do it again this year. I told her that I am currently looking for work and if I can't find anything else, I would gladly make myself available for that kind of work. I'm going to make a trip to our local Great Outdoor Store and sink some money into some cold weather gear. Last year I learned real quick how important it is to dress in several layers if you are standing on a concrete surface out in the cold.

A week ago I had gone to our local office of the South Dakota Department of Social Services and applied for food stamps. I certainly meet the qualifications of this program, but in order to be able to make use of the benefits, I am required to work a minimum of 36 hours a week. This was explained to me by a gentleman from Africa who barely speaks english, and I know I should ask someone else in this same office to verify that. How am I supposed to meet this requirement when I am having so much difficulty in finding work in the first place?! I don't like government programs, they seem to help people who don't need assistance, and work against people like myself who are honestly having a hard time making ends meet. Has anyone else out there experienced what I am dealing with?

I hope everyone has a good day!

Ray - I certainly wish you the best in your effort to navigate the government's assistance programs.  Having gone through some very difficult times myself in the past, I can empathize with your situation.

I myself am going to spend the day helping a friend who had her purse stolen last last week.  Now she needs to replace all of her cards - Social Security, drivers license, passport, etc.  What an unnerving experience she has gone through.

To get my day started though, I'll take a glass of orange juice and a blueberry bagel please.

Afternoon all.....

Well, not a whole lot going on this past weekend, as I mostly decided to stay home and get things cleaned up (Waste Management is going to love me come Wednesday). Have not been watching TV lately, too much mudslinging going on, feel like I'm watching the mud pit races.

Talked to my parents, my dad finished up shelled corn last week, managed to fill the Harvestore without buying extra corn, which is very good, one less expense to worry about. Mom has already started Christmas shopping (arrggghhh!!!) and is shipping some things in my direction so my sisters don't find out.

Cannonball, I didn't know about them either, they look very nice, though, have a raw steel finish to them, with a touch of yellow and black on the earpieces. Have some funny video of a outdoor promotion at a Cat dealership in Libertyville, had two bulldozers out front, smaller one had 'Pushy' on the blade, bigger one had 'Very Pushy' written on it.

Well, gotta get rolling, save some dinner for me, CW, I'll slide in here about 3am for it. See everyone later.

Second or third booth along the wall if you turned left when you walked in the front door.  I was wearing my usual car host garb, complete with uniform hat.

Randy ; thank you for the comeback  It is nice to know some folks still have a sense of humor.  The dozers speak for them selves . Good to hear your dad had a great corn harvest.   I'm happy to be back at the Diner . The road ain't what it used to be , too much hate and discontent there.  The best to you and your folks . respectfully, Cannonball.

Good Tuesday morning, to everyone.  Raining here, temp is about 54, 55 out.
Also been raining all night.  They (meterologists) say that the total rainfall overnight,
has been 1/2 to 1 inch, depending on the area where you live.  We didn't have our
rain guage out, so I'm not sure how much we got here in our area.

Coffee, juice, hot tea and hot chocolate are ready.  Breakfast is on the warmer bar,
so help yourselves.

Also want to remind everyone:

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

CW,

I'll take a hot chocolate and I'll stroll through the breakfast bar. Need a plate to go. I'm headed to our local school to vote and then off to work.

As for rain, it's just been a light chilled rain so far. We need some sun to take the chill off for awhile.

Everyone have a great day.

A cup of hot chocolate would taste pretty good right about now. I am in the habit of checking out the weather on my computer for a variety of places, especially where I have friends or relatives, and it looks like Louisville, Kentucky has been getting a lot of rain lately. For those of you who live in Louisvile, I hope you will soon get some sunlight to chase the cloud cover and rain away.

It's 37 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and we have a cloudy sky. It's supposed to warm up here to about 67 later this afternoon, although our local metierologist with KELO AM is saying that it could get up to 72.

I too,  will be headed out to excercise my patriotic duty to vote, and I will repeat Cherokee Woman's admonition here,

If you are registered to vote, do your duty and vote!!

I voted many weeks ago.  Took forever and many brushings to get the "I Voted" sticker off my fur.  They stuck it on my back!

I'm hungry - not going to use the regular food bowl.  Goin' for CW's mixing bowl.  Big Smile [:D]

Didn't wear my heavy coat today.  Just too nice out - 75 this afternoon - good train watching weather, which I will enjoy after my duties here!

We must have landlord evict new tenants.  They seem to go in and out through walls and never bang a door.  They manage to get through a whole nite w/o a loud stereo.  They walk up and down the stairs.  They park on their side of the double drive.  Haven't had to use the speed dial once to call police!

This is just too spooky.  What kind of neighbors would do this to us?

Sounds like the kind of neighbors you need to get acquainted with!

Everyone make sure to check out the new thread I just started- dug up the precious few attempts at railfan photography that I have from the 70s and scanned them.

http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/945343/ShowPost.aspx

Mookie, I also found a shot of our family cat, Pepper, which I'll scan tonight and post here in the diner.

CW said to be careful when you do get close to the "mixin' bowl"; if you think the glue from that
sticker was hard on your fur,  You don't want to  get it caught in the beaters!!!!!

Our nice Train Watching weather was yesterday before it started raining, got to watch the NS
doing some good general track keeping through here. Painting switch machines, dwarf signals,
instrument cases, pulling ditches with a Hi-Rail John Deere backhoe, etc.  The guys told us there
was going to be an "inspection train" through sometime this week.
(mc,they did do a "little bit" of work around that "low joint"---not much.)

......Central Indiana has a low of 50 degrees this morning...not bad.  Just a little light rain.  Don't know just what that means of any voting outcome.

Like Jen, we voted about 2 weeks ago...Sounds like this election cycle has record numbers of absentee voting....It eliminates any hassles finding parking, making one's way through all the politicians and any standing in lines...etc...Plus one can do it at one's own pace.

Wonder if we may see that inspection train up this way that you mention Walt....Would be something different and we've got NS running several ways out of the Muncie area...North, northeast, south and west north west.

I wouldn't be surprised "we" get inspected more than a little over town at that long sweeping curve that is famous for "dumping" the TripleCrown on the ground quite often.  Plus another regular freight just a couple of months ago.
