It's kind of a depressing, gloomy day here in Sioux Falls, and at last report we had a temperature of 44 degrees. It actually feels closer to 39.
I made the trek within the last hour to the South Dakota Career Center to dig up information on possible job openings, and while on my way out there I encountered a Dakota & Iowa train that was southbound toward I would assume was Sioux City, Iowa. There were three engines and 53 open hoppers in the consist. The lead engine was #4028, an SD-39. I regret that I did not have my camera with me this time. As usual, there were a few idiots who did not want to wait patiently for the train to clear the crossing. The train was moving rather slow, having just passed through the BNSF yard here, but by the time the engines cleared the crossing, it was really building up some speed.
For anyone who has never seen motive power of the D&I, the locomotives are painted yellow and black, and these three engines appeared to be in immaculate condition, as if they had been freshly painted. And very sharp looking as well.

Good Afternoon!
It was raining here a little earlier this morning, but now it is just cloudy. I know that folks like Tree have probably already had enough to do with snow for this year, but I'm ready to see a couple inches sometime in the next few weeks.
I don't have any big news for today, so everyone have a good one!

Willy-The last snow shoveler in our family has gone off to college. When the snow comes can you slide over here and get our driveway done by 6am. We'll give you a note for your principal explaining why you are late for school.
Maybe Mookie, Bryan, Carl and I can pool on the purchase of a nice two stage snow mover with an enclosed cab. You can take care of your family's driveway first. I am sure they would appreciate that.

We've got some stuff up on the north side of town, but from what I've gathered from our foremen and supervisors that live down south by MC, it's an absolute nightmare down that way right now. I think I'll have a nice quiet evening at home under a blanket with a good book, some hot chocolate and some Vivaldi in the background (the Four Seasons seems appropriate!).
Yea, but that Denver stuff tends to go away in a day or two.
By the way, if you can't locate your Vivaldi CD, call the IRS 800 number, you will get an hour or two of the Four Seasons while on hold. (I used to like that piece.)
rain here in nw ohio.going to get the trick or treaters wet.at least its friday!! and we got our trains issuse in the mail today too.

Hmmm...you've been to Denver, haven't you? It'll be back in the 60's by the weekend. If you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait 15 minutes or drive 15 miles (sometimes that's no joke!)
Only a government agency (and the IRS seems to be the paradigm for so many bureaucratic entities)could have the wherewithal to kill something as beautiful as The Four Seasons. One would think that they could take some miniscule fraction of all they take in to buy at least one or two more songs for background music!

With the new deal on distribution of Kalmbach magazines (UPS to your local post office), we can now blame the folks at "Brown" . There is a 800 number somewhere, so don't go sending e-mails to Waukesha.

Hey that Beef stew sounds really good. It's cold around here today. Finally haqd to put away the short sleeves for the season. In the high 30s. Leaves almost all gone. Looking like Halloween...
The new Classic Trains is interesting too. Lots of good stuff about cab units. Takes me back to the '60s and '70s.

Yea, but remember what Jerry said: "If you remember the '60s, you weren't there."
Good morning everyone! It looks like I'm the first one here in the Diner this morning, so I will take charge of serving breakfast. I've already mixed up a fresh batch of orange juice and I've got the coffe brewing.
This morning's breakfast menue: oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, buttermilk pancakes, belgian waffles, apple-cinnamon muffins, and I brought in two pans of my homemade cinnamon rolls - fresh from the oven and still warm!
Yawn. (now didn't just reading that make you want to yawn, too!)
MMM - smells good in here.
Doc sez I have bronko, no, bronco, no - I have a bad cof! And a long inflecshun. Don't know what that means, but I can still smell! Need to stay in the hammock so I don't get nomonya! No problem. Don't want no monya anyway!
Nice weather coming east compliments of Nebraska. (sure didn't come from Colorado or Kansas!)
Willy - good luck with the play this weekend. Work your magic with the lights!
Brian - our best to Joanie. Ballet in her future?
Tree - lost 4 comrades in California due to a professional fire starter. How tragic!
Remember to "fall" back this weekend. I am going to start right now! Hammock, here I come.

I have an aunt and uncle living in Southern California, in Apple Valley, which is just outside of Victorville. While I don't know how close they are to this fire that has been in the news lately, I hope the authorities will find the individual who set this fire and nail him for the deaths of these four firefighters........a fifth one has received 3rd degree burns over 95% of his body, and I am guessing he will not survive. These guys gave their lives in an effort to stop this fire from spreading and to protect human lives and property.
In the summer or fall of 2000(I think), There was a girl who thoughtlessly tossed a cigarette butt from her care while driving through the Black Hills National Forest, and the resulting blaze burned off thousands of acres. She didn't seem to give a rip about what she had done, she was prosecuted and is now serving a prison sentence..........she may have already been released, but I hope she is still behind bars.

Is this the result of jumping around in wet piles of leaves? Alas! Two towels must not have been enough to prevent malady in a wet kitten. Seriously, hope you start feeling better soon, Mooks.
When one reads about the wildfires, and then finds out that it was the deliberate act of a looney, it certainly makes one loathe certain elements of the human race. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen firefighters.
Must be on my way. Hope you have all have a great day!

The sunny weather is nice, but you could keep that wind they are promising for the weekend!

Got that earlier on "The Secret List." It escapes me why someone would start a fire that's gonna burn woods and innocent people out of their homes. Not that I condone it, but setting fire to somebody's house because you're mad at them at least makes a certain amount of sense. This is just stupid.

We have some very nice weather coming our way here in Omaha. Highs of about 60 are forecast for Saturday then lower 70s for Sunday and Monday. I can't wait to feel warm air again!
