Boy, nice quiet night on the forum tonight.

I'm afraid I may end up breaking the peace with my new topic on Amtrak and CSX that I just posted after reading the article in Trains. I don't it will cause too much of a battle, though.

As forecasted, the rain is coming down and looks like it will continue to do so through Monday so a gloomy weekend is in store.

Rain all day here, too, it looks like.  Cancelled the girls' (three generations' worth) plans for a walk in the Arboretum today.

Good Sunday morning to all!  Coffee and tea are on, and fresh juice is in the
fridge.

Sunday Brunch today:

1.  sausage, bacon, pancakes w/maple syrup
2.  sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs
3.  cold cereal:  corn flakes, apha-bets, cocoa pebbles, fruity pebbles,
      frosted flakes, bran flakes

Sunday Dinner won't be ready until about 3 p.m. EDT.  On the menu
will be:  beef roast w/potatoes, carrots, onions and side dishes will be:
green beans, slaw, or garden or Caesar salads.

Desserts:  apple cobbler, peach pie, blackberry pie, all available with
ice cream.

Everyone have a great day.  We're supposed to get rain today, also, Carl:
just not sure when it will be in.  Is pretty cloudy and overcast outside right
now.

Morning All,

CW, think I'll have some of Brunch Option #1. That sounds good!

Meanwhile, we don't currently have any rain falling, but it is a very grey day, and a touch on the foggy side. Of course, it's not really foggy enough to be photogenic, but rather just enough to make train photos look flat and uninteresting. Actually, with the diffuse lighting, it might be a great day to go out to something like the Arboretum. I might have to try that. Carl, you'll have to thank the three generations for a great idea for me!

I'm outta here. I'll probably swing in a bit later and check in. Hope you all have a great day!

TTFN!

Chris, were you ever at the Morton Arboretum during your time here?  It has been improved dramatically over the past 20-25 years.  Their children's area is amazing, as Nora and her sons will attest.

Oddly enough, I never was, despite having a friend who literally lived right next door (or rather, right behind) there. Interestingly enough, I have yet to go to the Denver Botanic Gardens too (except once to shoot a wedding, but since I didn't really do anything except shoot the wedding, it doesn't really count).

Should've gone today too. I ended up going with some friends to watch football. Both of my teams (Packers and Broncos) didn't fare too well. I still have hope for the Bronco's season, but I might be in for a REALLY long season as a Pack fan.

I watched that game too, Chris.  I just might have to change over to a Bears fan this year, the way they shut out the Packers.  Bears looked really good, looks like they had everything come together, hope they can keep it up.

Raining again here,  Hasn't gotten above 60 since Friday, looks to be chilly until about Wednesday, then warm up.  Hope it's nice this weekend, planning to take a personal day this Thursday to go home and help dad chop corn silage and fill bags.  The way the forecast looks, though, I might have to move that day to Monday, don't want to bury the tractor in the field.

Will take a batch of whatever was on the menu (forgot to look before typing this up), and will see everyone later.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the new avatar, got it off the Chrome Shop Mafia's website, also like the Trick my Truck show on CMT, they do some really good work!

Joe - My Keiko is the same way - unless she decides she's really hungry.  It's tough to board her out - she won't eat there, either.

Frost warning here overnight!  That'll bring the colors out!  We're getting tinges of color here now, but up at the railroad (1700' elevation vs 300' here) things should get really bright real soon.  The colors are showing there moreso now.  That's apparently one of our busiest seasons...

At least the weather should be decent, if not warm.

Went to the local train show today - a nice little show, about a dozen layouts and a healthy group of vendors.  Followed that by setting up the sound system (I have a small, portable system I've put together) for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at our county Fire/EMS training center.  Hard to believe it's been five years...

Back from the land of no Internet this afternoon.  Mom turns 92 on Wednesday and all is well.

Tuesday AM will be hitting the road for a couple of weeks in New England.  General "seeing the sights" trip, but eyes and ears will be open for trains and camera will be close at hand.  Lap top is going along and should be able to check in from time to time.

Good Monday morning to everyone.  Joe and Larry, you are so right:  it is very hard to
believe that five years has passed.  We have several memorials around the area to-
day/this evening.

Joe, thank you for getting the coffee going, and fixing the juice.  And thank you for the
rolls.

I was awakened at 5:05 by thunder and lightning.  We are supposed to have thunder-
showers, and storms off and on all day today.

Does anyone have any special requests for lunch and supper today?  If so, please
let me know by 10 a.m. EDT.

Good morning, everyone. Breakfast at my house this morning will be french toast, pork sausage links, orange juice and coffee. Anyone who is hungry is welcome to drop in here for breakfast this morning.

I have been up since 5:00 this morning (CDT), and right now we have a temperature of 54 degrees. It rained all day here yesterday and it is supposed to remain cloudy throughout the whole day, and the temp will max out at about 63 degrees later this afternoon.

Today is the 5th anniversary of 9/11. Please remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who were murdered by Islamic Perverts that day. I have a sister in New Jersey and she and her husband lost a couple of their friends when the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed. I will be flying my American flag today, providing I can get the bracket securely mounted to my porch railing. And South Dakota's governor has ordered that all flags in this state be flown at half mast today.

Well, it is a somber day.  Rightfully so!

But since life goes on:  Must catch up with diner conversation from this weekend.

Brian - HA HA HA!  Dogs and Cats alike love Mookie.  Remembers, she is "sweet".... Big Smile [:D]

Let's see - I know there is something I need to announce.....mumble, mumble, mumble....ponder, think.....

I know!  October 7th & 8th - PTRR visits Lincoln, along with Proviso Yard and possibly the UP from Omaha!

Guests from Houston - Ed & Aimee,  Brother Carl & Pat from the Chicago area and maybe Willy 2 from Omaha.  Even a small possibility there will be royalty from the Denver area and his Lady.  (Sir Chicken with Boss Hen.)  I figure if we all congregate trackside in our favorite watch location and wave at the trains, we can cause a real work stoppage.  Lots of excitement - and maybe lots of railroad officials will join our happy group.  Cool [8D]

I know some people are within a short driving distance of the Star City of Nebraska and may want to circle that date and check out the watch site (if they are on here, they know the location already.)  Otherwise, Mookie Mail is always open during the week - write and ask for directions.

I will give you a brief synopsis of the visit and if Mr. Houston really exists or is just a figment of a PR department of the PTRR.  Now let's all keep our fingers crossed that the BNSF performs as I know they can and that they don't call off the weekend for the company picnic or decide to repair all the tracks in the area at that time.

BNSF - are you listening - this could be big for you!

Mookie

Yes, and I still remember extremely vividly that morning when I logged onto Airliners.net's discussion forum on the Civil Aviation section--someone had mentioned a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. I knew something was serious and I turned on the TV to watch Fox News Channel, where I saw the replay of the second plane crash into the other WTC tower. Needless to say, I was totally rivetted to the TV for the rest of the day.

As a dedication to the many who passed away untimely that day, I want for both lunch and supper a Blue Plate Special of meatloaf, buttered peas and mashed potatoes. Thumbs Up [tup]

Brian, you get your wish:  homemade chicken noodle soup, along with beef vegetable
soup and grilled cheese or PB&J sandwiches will be on the lunch menu.

Sactoguy, you get your wish also:  along with the chicken noodle and beef vegetable
soup, there will be meat loaf, buttered peas and mashed taters as the blue plate
specials
today, for both lunch and supper tonight.

And yes, today is a very somber day; kind of seems half way appropriate for it to
be cloudy, overcast, and/or raining today.  I'm sure everyone's thoughts and prayers
are with the families and friends of all those who perished on that horrible day.

Good morning.

Today is a very sad day. The gloomy conditions outside seem very fitting. I will always remember September 11, 2001.

It's a day off today so I might do some train watching or just read a good book. I also have a little bit of homework to finish up.

Have a good day.

I can't forget what a beautiful day 9/11/01 was, both here and in New York, before the towers fell.  That day was a day off from work for me; I don't know how I could have gotten through it otherwise.

As a Christian, I believe that there are angels present in our lives. I also believe that there were a multitude of angels on hand at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and that bare field in Pennslvania where the fourth plane went down. Those who had placed their trust in Christ Jesus were escourted home. And I can not help it but feel that the 19 Islamic Pervert terrorists who committed this attrocity against our people were seized by angels and dragged off to Hell. And from all that I have been seeing in the news for the last few years, I am now convinced that we are indeed living in the last days before the great tribulation occurs.

I've no doubt that you're right about the just rewards, CP.

Back to HQ's post now (HQ=Hammock Queen, AKA SJ, AKA Mookie):

I'm hoping that I'll be able to get the vacation days I need to go to Lincoln (they'd better let me go--some reservations have already been made!).  And I hope you can make it, too, Willy--the way SJ talks about you, I'd be delighted to get to meet you.  And meeting Ed and Aimee for the first time would be a treat--I envy Ed's way with words, and both of them have hearts as big as the state they're visiting from.  If MC and BH can attend as well, we'd be having a real Forum Summit out there.

SJ says her abode is being spiffed up for our visit--I wonder if she can get BNSF or other parties to spruce up or expand the parking facilities at the Hallowed Ground.  Don't think I'd want to stop the BNSF, though, and I hope that anyone from there who joins our party would actually be a welcoming committee.

Hope you all make it, would make for a great weekend...

Like Carl, I too am interested in meeting Willy, Mookie says he is A number one with a bullet, so should be very fun.

With a humpmaster, a mudchicken, and a yard snake all in one spot, we should be able to answer almost all of the Mookies questions..almost.

As for todays date...I was flipping through a buch of photos, taken by my Dad and his crew back in the 40s...and I came upon one that shows him, in his Chiefs uniform, on the bow of the DE he served on during WWII...and I realized that his generation managed to pretty much conquer the world in four years...they waged a war across Europe, in Aisa and the Middle East.

Its been five years since the 9/11 attacks...so I wonder what happend to us?

Afternoon All,

Sorry I didn't drop in this morning. Every once in awhile when we get a good rain, our internet connection at work goes haywire. Alas, this morning proved to be one of those times.

Mook, I've been kind of contemplating a Nebraska trip one of these days, and may look into a glorified weekend when you've got all the big names in town. I'd have to see how my sched. works out though, as my sisters will be in town from Oct. 12th - 17th. Will advise once I know a bit more.

Meanwhile, speaking of trips, I'll be back in IL for my annual White Pines State Park Weekend / Thanksgiving trip. I haven't set official dates yet, but I'll definately be in the vicinity for the weekends of Nov. 18/19 and Nov. 25/26 and the week betwixt those two. Carl, et al., would love to meet up during that time span if possible. I'll let you know when I have the dates firmly set.

Well, I suppose I must get back to work here. Hope you all have a great afternoon, and I'll catch you all later.

TTFN!
