Larry, I wondered who put that one place setting out!  Wink [;)]  Making sure no one
gets your spot!!

And Joe, there's plenty for you, Momma & Matt to have some for both lunch and
there will be take out containers for you to take for work tonight.

SactoGuy188, it's in the Crock Pots on the counter, so there'll be plenty for
everyone, no matter what time you get into the DD/CS.

Hmmm, don't think I've seen Mookie come in for lunch yet.  Maybe she's having
to eat in her office today.

Afternoon everyone.......

Finally quit raining here last night, but the sun isn't supposed to poke out until later today, supposed to be nice until about Sunday night or so.  I hope they're wrong about the weather, my dad has the silage bagger coming on Friday (I hope), and he wants to do three bags of corn silage.  I don't care to pull myself out of one continous mudhole all weekend.Sad [:(]Sad [:(]

Finally finished up our FedEx order last night, to the relief of everyone.  Now we will be working on UPS trailers for the next month or so, to the tune of about 100 units every three to four days.  That should hopefully take care of what's left of this large order.

A batch of beef stew sounds great for tonight, CW, it's supposed to drop to about 45 for a low tonight (brrrr!!).  That meal should warm everyone up.

See everyone later.

Everyone have a good evening and a good day tomorrow. Be back in Wednesday afternoon.

But you have 2 fine-toothed 4-legged saws with motors.  And I have been on the receiving end of "don't touch me!" a time or two.

True enough, but they're usually pretty gentle. Just a few nips or little scratches is all I've gotten from the cats for the past year or so.

Absolutely beautiful weather here in Omaha today. Full sunshine and highs in the upper 70s. What could be better? I am on high alert, though: Severe weather is possible Saturday evening. Even though it has nothing to do with anybody here except me and Mookie, I'll keep everyone up to date on it as Saturday eve. draws closer. I'm just so excited about the chance of some real thunderstorms for once, rather than just those wimpy things that produce about 2 flashes of lightning and a couple rumbles of thunder.

CW - I just acquired 3 in-boxes and they are all full!  Tis the season to be really busy!

Willy - if anyone has great thunderstorms, it will be Omaha.  They always have better things than Lincoln!  They even had a better tornado before you were born!

I will be back for the hammock one of these days, so keep it dusted and empty!  This has to quit pretty soon, I think......

Afternoon All,

CW, Stew and Cornbread sounds absolutely wonderful! Can't wait until tonight!

Got my new lens (Canon EF 400mm f5.6L) the other day. Alas! Everytime I go searching for a Head-On Telephoto Shot of a train, either I can't find any good weather or can't find any trains! Drove almost to Brush yesterday evening looking for a westbound. It seems the BNSF must've known I was coming and decided not to run any trains. Oh well, if all else fails, I should be able to get some nice Elk shots up in Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend.

Speaking of lenses, if you ever find yourself deficient in the telephoto department, I suppose you could Special Order one of these puppies from Carl Zeiss. And I thought that the Canon EF 1200mm f5.6L was big! That's how to put the "Super" in Supertelephoto! Now to go see about getting that Hassy to Canon EF adaptor.....................

Well, must be back to work. Catch you all later!

The promised return of summer was delayed for a day here--we got 0.7" more rain this morning--that's got to be close to 3 inches since the beginning of the week.  Still, it's better to have it spread out like this than within about an hour, as happened on a Labor Day a few years back.

Yet another CRO trainee was disqualified over the past couple of days (I'd had high hopes for this one, a fellow Lombardian).  We've had two people make it out of the last seven or eight trainees--and they also reached back and disqualified the two youngest CROs when they violated various rules.  I hope they get a couple more people trained for my job in the next three or four years...or maybe I just might prove to be irreplaceable!

Ah yes... The F4 tornado that hit the city in 1975. In one way I wish I had been around for it because it would have been very cool to see, but then again I would have been scared to death. It just missed where my mom was working by only a mile or so. If it had hit where she was working, I may not exist today! It always scares me to think about that.

Mookie hates football? Join the club, Mookie. I have never liked that sport, and the same goes for basketball. I've always felt that there are too many people in this country who have been brainwashed into thinking that they must participate in sports, so much to the point that they never stop to consider that there are other things in life to be doing, such as watching trains for example.

On the other hand, if I could learn how to play golf, that is one sport that I would take up. A friend of mine told me that I should take lesssons, he told me that I have a natural ability for it. Are there any other train watchers out there who also play golf now and then?

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Glad to see you in bright and early again
this morning, Mookie!!  How's it going with the 3 new inboxes, that are completely
full?   Really enjoyed your pawprint pancakes yesterday morning!!Big Smile [:D]

Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, and making the juice.  I've got the hot
chocolate just about ready, too.

Breakfast this morning:  bacon, sausage, biscuits w/sausage gravy, and
some western omelettes.

Cannonball, I've got the butterbean and ham soup on, and when it's ready,
I'll be putting the sweet cornbread in the skillet, and putting it in the oven,
to bake.  It should be ready in time for lunch.

Does anyone else have any other requests for lunch today?

If anyone in Denver is able to get a picture of this Alaska RR F9B, I would appreciate being able to see it in another post. I went on a cruise tour of Alaska in September of 2003 and had the pleasure of riding the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to the south end of Denali National Park. I have since then assembled an HO scale Alaska Railroad passenger train, with two SD70-macs from Kato Industries.

I've got a set of clubs which I use maybe once a year when the opportunity presents itself to play a round with my Dad, who's a golfaholic.

I don't play golf (though I did for a while when I knew the caretaker of a golfcourse). I did see something interesting once. While I was railfanning in the Sandpoint area there were these two guys that were golfing there way along the MRL right of way east of town. They would just drive the ball a few 100 feet go find it and drive it again. In the 2 or so days we were in the area these guys covered over 20 miles. Anyone for a round of railfan golfing? Last night a friend of mine showed up at my front door with three plastic bags loaded with vegetables from his garden. I've got potatoes, carrots, peas, peppers, onions, tomatoes, & almost everything that you would find in a typical vegetable garden. I think I might have a baked potatoe or two for dinner tonight. It's all very good stuff and I wish I could share it all with some of the other forum members out there. I think I will make my homemade spaghetti sauce this weekend, and this is what the tomatoes are good for.

I will start baking bread in another week or so, and my friend will probably be on the receiving end of a loaf of bread, fresh from the oven.

ARR 1508 is here in New York as ADIK 1508...  I haven't heard of any plans to add a B unit to our rolling stock.

Ham & Bean Soup & Cornbread - I'll take a serving over here!

Left work early yesterday on a report of a structure fire, possibly occupants unaccounted for (they were "in town" having lunch), and several significant exposures (barns and sheds).  When the first officer arrived on scene, as the call was still being dispatched, there was fire out all the windows.  The roof collapsed 10 minutes later, a good 20 minutes before I arrived.  There wasn't much we could do.  Did save all the other outbuildings (it was an old farm), but the house is just a smoking hole in the ground now.  I guess you could say we saved the cellar.

Interesting phenomenon - Just stopped by the Rochelle webcam in time to catch a westbound UP and patched SP locomotive at the head end of a train of identical aluminum hoppers.  The curious thing was that the train was moving at such a speed that it appeared to remain almost motionless (with the every few seconds framing of the webcam) while the locomotives jumped ahead one car at a time.
