I agree with Mookie, football is not my favorite sport. In fact I don't like it at all. To make matters worse, it is the next thing we are playing in gym class. Thank goodness gym is only one semester and we only do each sport for 5 days. Now, if we did baseball the whole semester, that would be better because I like baseball quite a bit.
The set-up continues to look good for severe thunderstorms on Saturday here in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. More info coming tomorrow as the event closes in.

We have guests coming from Illinois and Texas....you don't want to scare them with threats of bad weather. Why, they have probably never seen severe weather where they are from... Well, hopefully by October 7th we won't need to be worrying (or anticipating in my case) about severe weather anymore.
Good luck in Louisville on Saturday, Mookie!
EDIT: 5:10 PM: Sorry about the double post!
Willy,
Mooks was going to go to Louisville last week, but apparently got rained out.
Our rain is supposed to arrive again on Sunday.
Weather something like today's would be perfect for three weeks hence!
Double posts are fun to answer!

Dear SJ,
We went as far west as Kar-ney last time we were out (though I may have left the "e" out of it then). And my mother-in-law was born in Be-AT-riss (people still hear a Nebraska accent when she talks--her dad ran for some public office in GI).
We get our share of severe weather around here, too--and don't forget that Pat and I are from western Michigan, where the Lake fuels the snow machine!
In spite of the appearance of those widely-publicized golf outings, Mr. Ford was quite the athlete, up to and including his time in the White House. Muscular, too--I remember the time he uprighted a certain young newspaper reporter, about my weight, when he'd nearly landed on his posterior after slipping on ice (I didn't have a chance to hit the ground!).
Rough day--I think I'll borrow the hammock for a nap before bedtime.

We did fish 2 weeks ago - before the rain. We plan very carefully!
Willy - you can delete the double post and take away Brother Carl's fun - just say you want to delete the 2nd post. They will take your name, address, and drivers license #, but it will work.
Building is pretty empty - guess who didn't get to go to the USC/UNL game in LA this weekend.....so I may actually have some peace and quiet and can catch up on some pending projects that are growing whiskers. But before I do that - need to paw through the breakfast items, have my coffee and since I do have my priorities, check out the hammock - has a light dent in it.
(if someone is in it, I may sneak underneath and do a love bite where it counts!)
Moo....
Morning all! Thought I'd pop in here for a while. I see Ms. Moo is up to her usual...how's about a chocolate kitty treat?
Class has been pretty strenuous thus far. On the bright side I now should have less in class time and more things to do on my own allowing for much more efficient procrastination!
Dan
I was going to procrastinate today, but figured I'd just put it off until tomorrow....
Of course, I can't procrastinate on the railroad - looks like it will be a nice weekend in the woods, and the colors are starting to show, so we may be rather busy. It's also firefighters weekend - firefighters and EMT's ride free. The Old Forge Fire Department (just down the road) has a "Drill Weekend" every year at this time - a very popular event open to firefighters from all over. If they aren't in a class, some of the firefighters may just come and ride with us. I'll be in my usual railroad "regalia," but I'll have my FD badge on my belt...
Guess I'll slip into the kitchen and warm up a bear claw to go with my flavored tea...

Yeah - Really!
Morning everyone.....
Nice day here in Madison, in the mid-60s now, to hit 75 today. Packing up to head to the parents this afternoon, going to help my dad chop corn silage again, if the bagger comes, and if we can get in the field without burying the tractor. So if anyone sees a mud, dirt, and corn-covered John Deere tractor pulling a Gehl chopper in the pull-through stall in the diner parking lot this weekend, it's just me. (I try not to back up when pulling the chopper, can get tricky.)
Joe- closed due to fog today? Was pretty bad over here a couple nights ago, was foggy again last night, but not as bad.
I'll help out with the fish fry when I can, but I'll need help. I changed the oil in the fryers this morning, needed the old oil to make diesel fuel for vehicles.
See everyone later.

It's not quite 12:30 PM here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and it is raining here. The wind is blowing from out of the south at 15 miles per hour. Everything is nice and green here, but I wish other parts of this country were getting some badly needed rain.
I am taking a break from giving my kitchen a thorough cleaning, it is long overdue. I am hoping to be ready to start baking bread tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow is my 52nd birthday, and right now I don't have any plans to celebrate it. I am guessing that I will probably spend the day catching up on some reading. It's supposed to rain tomorrow.......my Dad once told me that the moment I was born, Sioux Falls was in the middle of one of the most violent thunderstorms he had ever witnessed. And it may seem funny that I like it when we are socked in with rain on my birthday.

It's raining in Sioux Falls? Huh- we've got a beautiful blue sky here in Cedar Rapids, and the weekend is supposed to start out nice last I heard.
a day early, CP2816. Welcome to the 52-year-old club. My entrance was May 28.

CP and Brian - (snort) young uns....
Randy - It is raining really hard here - and it wasn't even predicted.
I can't tell if it is coming from Houston Ed or Denver Chicken. Either way - I will have to hunt them down and pat them nicely. (snicker)
Having a meeting of catty people - so I will return later!
Mook
Mooks: You gonna be sitting on your roof with that big net trying to catch that big tin bird (Delta version) on its way to CW & Mutt this weekend?
The rain is not coming from here (although they are talking SNOW in the foothills on Sunday)....Maybe CW & Mutt can save me some of their moisture....
gotta go.

Now, now, Mookie - don't be too hard on meteorologists and future meteorologists (like me). Weather is a very difficult thing to predict. Everything is still looking good for Saturday. Instability will only be modest, but there will be sufficient moisture and very strong wind shear to support supercells capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and maybe an isolated tornado. Looks like things will probably initiate around mid afternoon across eastern Nebraska and then slide east into western Iowa. The one real limiting factor is the chance of some morning storms which could really cut into the moisture and instability levels. I guess only time will tell what happens.
That's all for now. I'm off to read some of the Odyssey, or as my mom puts it, "The Oddity."
Now that Willy is gone on his Odyssey - I will share what I can't bring myself to tell him - the bad weather will miss Lincoln totally, move into maybe Omaha and definitely Iowa and beat the daylights out of Iowa. It always does.
And a chicken in the air? Over head? A fowl comes to mind - and it ain't chicken - more like DUCK!
Have a good weekend everyone. C U on Monday

I'm glad I spent enough time in the weather business to know what you just said....

Mookie - You don't have to tell me. I know that the storms always miss Lincoln and Omaha and really get going once they reach Iowa. It always makes me so darn mad! Still, I'm holding out hope that tomorrow will be one of those few days that they actually do give Omaha a good beating. The Storm Prediction Center said that they may need to upgrade eastern Neb/western Iowa from a slight risk to a moderate risk in one of the severe weather outlooks on Saturday. That's always a good sign.
Tree - You got me with the skew T! I think of I've heard of them before, but I have no idea what they represent or do. Please fill me in. But if anyone thinks that I just copied that from a weather discussion, they are wrong. I am serious about being a metorologist and know what everything I said means.
The Odyssey is not my favorite thing to read, but it is actually turning out better than I thought it would be.
So, until tomorrow morning (when I'll have another update on the weather) I am out of here for today. Have a good evening! And happy birthday to CP2816. Have a super birthday!!
Willy2 wrote:Tree - You got me with the skew T!
The Skew T is basically the plot derived from the temperature and humidity information received from weather balloons as they rise. I never learned to plot that, although I did get pretty good at plotting and coding winds. Not that I could even read the TTY reports any more... But I still understand some of it, and might even be able to pick out inversions and tropopause.
I worked in upper air (weather balloons) for several years while I was in USAF.
