Don't even mention food, Brian!  I can barely move, yet.  That's the effect of too much watermelon (hadn't had it very often this summer, so I pigged out a little).

Would you believe 1001100 miles on the bike in a single afternoon/evening up in Michigan (makes me look busy!)?

With the rain in the forecast tomorrow, and Pat needing the car for her job, I probably won't be straying too far, at least in the morning.

Scottie population tripled here as of 10 am. Does the diner have a secret stash of dog bones around? (Gus has been joined by Doogie and Nigel...the cat has gone underground)

Scottish terriers have been bred to go to ground and eliminate vermin - Wonder if Jay would like to borrow "death from the ankles down" times three for a little ratkilling?

Wow!  Congratulations, MC--and good luck!

My sister had four kittens when we visited her on Friday--two of her own and two she was watching for a friend.  They aren't mean critters, but do have sharp claws, and there are so many ways you could die accidentally--like tripping over them, having a coronary when one jumps on you, and, yes, nipping at ankles or toes.

Airport of the day -- Kansas City.

Note to self:  Mexican food in (a) airport (b) Kansas City is not even wrong.

Obviously I wasn't!

"I plead ignorance, madam, sheer ignorance."

Kansas City-MCI I believe is the last major airport built before screening was implemented, so it's very shallow between passenger drop-off drive and jetways (as is much of DFW).  As a result the terminal is long and thin.  I was tired, and didn't want to walk, and it was there, and ... um, the sun was in my eyes ...

OK, these are lousy excuses.

Carl-I had a political affliction one time.  It takes years but you get over it.  By the way, I think I missed the answer to where is the cottage.  Did you post the answer?

Mexican food in Kansas or Missouri (where MCI is) has always been suspect. Starts with the suspicious brown salsa and goes downhill from there. At least it wasn't in Montezuma, KS!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

That would be hilarious if they actually had a Mexican restaurant there by the name of "Montezuma's Revenge".Laugh [(-D]

Jay, the correct answer to the quiz was Mears, Michigan.  The post office there is about nine miles from the cottage, though (technically, the cottage's address is still in Mears).  Between the two lies the tourist community and state park at Silver Lake.  Geographically, the cottage is near the tip of Little Sable Point (hence the lighthouse).  As you go up the shore of Lake Michigan beyond its widest point (roughly Grand Haven), Little Sable Point is the first "bump" in the shoreline.

Judging from the exploratory activity in the area, we may someday find oil wells along the bike trail and elsewhere in that area.  Lots of seismographic devices were planted around Shelby.

Brian, I don't think a trip of that length would qualify me for RAGBRAI.  I was supposed to do another 100011 miles the following day (from Ludington back to the cottage), but I slept instead.  All afternoon.  Had to be awakened for supper, after which I...slept!

Now do you believe I'm Mookie's brother?

From Brian:

"That would be hilarious if they actually had a Mexican restaurant there by the name of "Montezuma's Revenge".Laugh [(-D]"

It wouldn't even have to be a Mexican restaurant.  It would probably draw quite a crowd, but the operators probably couldn't even pay the patrons to try the water.

Unless, of course, it was a sports bar.  Then all bets are off.

Now that sounds like something I would do.  Actually, there are alot of people who participate in only one or two day's worth of RAGBRAI.  Joanie has a cousin who comes over from Cincinnati and does that.  I've yet to plant my butt on the 18-speed and join the fun- however, I've helped serve food to the RAGBRAI masses at our church a few years back.

Ah, now you've hit the seat of the problem, as it were.  That was my sorest bodily component before I took an hour-long supper break.  Guess I need more padding (on the bike seat, of course!).

Have a great time, and enjoy your get-together!

We're getting the rain here (about 3/4" since last night, so far), so I probably won't be going out before afternoon.

Good Labor Day morning, to everyone!

Enjoyed my day off yesterday.  I want to thank Joe and everyone else who helped
out in here yesterday.   Looks like everyone did a great job keeping everything
cleaned up.  THANK YOU ALL FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!

Joe, cereal sounds pretty good this morning.  Think I'll make my cereal a nice,
hot bowl of maple brown sugar oatmeal w/a couple slices of toast this morning.
It's only 59 here this morning, and something warm sounds really good.  Would
anyone else like some oatmeal this morning?

Think I'll fire up the grill around 3 and put some steaks, burgers, bratts, and
hot dogs on, along with some fresh corn on the cob, and maybe we'll add some
other veggies like red and green peppers, and whatever other veggies you'd
like to have cooked on the grill.

Everyone have a great, and safe holiday today.

I'll take a big bowl of Wheaties!  Dinner sounds wonderful, I'll finally be able to hang around and enjoy it.  Need someone to handle the spatula and tongs?

Looks like we'll have to set up the grill in the shelter house and get the big umbrellas up on the patio.

Good Morning.

I am really sick this morning. Coughing, wheezing, very sore throat - basically I'm a mess today. I'll be off to the doctor in a little while to see what it is.

CW - Dinner sounds really good, but I probably shouldn't come in to eat this evening because I don't want to spread whatever I've got to anyone else.

Well, that's about the only news from Omaha this morning. I might pop in for a visit tomorrow.

Finally nice today, if cool, now that Ernesto has taken his rain further north.  It wasn't too bad yesterday, fortunately for the trainmen, as they stayed a little drier during their groundwork.

We had a good day yesterday - lots of riders.  We were happy to see them all, but I wish parents with young kids would consider that Junior is going to get bored cooped up on the train for an hour and a half and bring something to amuse them.  Not a few passengers were a tad miffed about the racket!  Made for a lot of cleaning, too.

I believe I'll be back for dinner - have a few errands to run.

Willy, that sounds like a bad cold.  My colds used to start with the sore throat, followed by sneezing--the coughs came later.  Hope you feel better in time for school tomorrow (unless, of course, you want to stay away from it, which I seriously doubt!).
