Whodathunk replacing a 27" x 27" section of floor would be such a production? Due to previously undetected leaks under the throne, the floor was giving out, so I decided I'd better replace it before I found myself in the basement.....
First day's work interrupted by an 8 acre brush fire (more on that later), but I did get the section of the floor I wanted to replace out and scoped out what would be required next. It does mean I have to traipse upstairs, but at least I have a second bathroom... Most parts are on hand.
Second day - take day off from work so I can work on this. Get plywood cut to size, go to lumberyard for 2x4 to provide more solid base. Got that cut up and in place. Sanded and poly'd the plywood so new tile will stick better (and had to wait for that to dry). Had to go into town to get measured for tux for daughter's wedding and a couple more "parts," but the floor is down, gaps filled (had to wait for that to dry, too) and sanded, and another coat of poly.
Wednesday night it gets sanded again, the initial tile gets put down, and the king shall again have his throne. Then I just have to finish putting the tile down and replace the mop boards...
And I thought I'd finish it in a day.
As for the brush fire - I was on my way home from the initial supply trip for this project when the pager blats for a brush fire, threatening two barns. Four hours and eight fire departments later, both buildings are still standing (although one has some charring - we had to put it out twice) and around 8 to 10 acres burned. Seems the family was just on vacation and acquired some fireworks. Mom and Dad weren't home, so Jr was in the back lot firing off some Roman Candles. He's headed to court., since said fireworks are illegal here.....

Church meeting tonight. Three hours, way to long. As a late supper, meat loaf on the Blue Plate is just fine. I've never met a vegtable I didn't like, so whatever is left.
Larry - Had one of those. Same time experience, but anything done in a 120 year old building takes a long time. The cast iron flange had cracked, so after I fixed the floor I had a pro come in and finish the job. Fortunately there are ways to fix that problem without having replace any pipe. The crawl space between the "full" 2x12 floor joists and the ground is not more than 18 inches. Not too many plumbers I know would fit.
Cannonball - Good work.

Morning everyone.......
Well, had an exercise in bone-head-ism at work today. Had one guy installing hubs for the first time, and he kinda forgot to install the inner wheel bearing before sliding the hub on. Almost took the ABS sensor brackets clean off the axles when he tried to run through the hub torque sequence with the machine.
Larry and Jay, I know how that goes, it took about twelve years for my parents to finish my sisters bedroom, it used to be an attic. Mom finally got frustrated enough that she called in a contractor to finish the job (come to think of it, the last three or four rooms that have been redone, she called in a contractor, wonder if she was trying to tell dad something?)
Welcome to the diner Nighttrain, feel free to help yourself to the Gatorade and Squincher on tap, and have a good time here in general. I'm usually in here nocturnally, me being a second shifter. Will have what's left of the Blue Plate, and have a good morning everyone.

Tree - since you are a good fixer upper in certain departments, there is a box in the corner with a lid that could use some grippers on it. Someone accidently tripped on it the other day whilst it was in use...Jostling I don't need! Besides my dignity was injured, since there was sand everywhere!
I will leave a work order on your coffee cup.
Only fun in my life lately - I took a shower with the new landlord.
I know! It is a family forum. Our duplex has back to back bathrooms, which makes every venture in there a real experience. He was working on the plumbing on the other side when I took my shower. Those walls are so thin - I hope he didn't get too wet!
Rain maybe? This is so unusual. The power of this forum. Normally August is totally dry. No rain whatsoever until Sept. So I yowled about it on here and voila.....we have been having rain off and on for the past 2 weeks!
Now I want to talk about the state of my empty bowl....... Yowl!

I'm headed out to DIA to pick up a friend who is visiting for a couple days, so I may not drop into the DD&CS for a couple days. Hope you all have a great week, and I'll see you on Sunday if not before!
TTFN!
P.S. Mook, got your coffee mug filling again. Should be ready in a bit.

Good Morning!
My braces are off. Overall it's good to be rid of them although now I've got the retainer to put up with.
Last night was book night at school to prepare for the upcoming year. Had to go get all of my books, uniforms, schedule, id photo, etc. The chemistry book is looking kind of scary, but I'll try to be brave!
More rain is on the way for tonight, Thursday night and probably Friday night, too.
That's all from here. Have a good day!

Willy2-Congrats on the end of the ordeal of the metal. Smile.
Mook-Send some rain.
Other than dry, clear skys, cool nights and moderate daytime temps have been the rule here. Glad to hear that it is getting spread around.
If you haven't heard, Mark is back for good. Currently taking some well deserved R&R.
Glad to hear that, Jay.

ooo....bowl of cake! That covers a whole lot of past sins!
Willy - just remember in chemistry - H2O + cake mix + eggs + oven = Happy Happy.
Joe will have to fill out my work order - remember - no thumbs?
Yessssss - Jay is right - Mark is home. Think we ought to celebrate! Break out the milk and maybe cookies (chocolate chip!)
WoW nnot much as happened since I've been away from the DD&CS. Well, I'm back for a little bit anyway. Guess were I am, at work, with very little to do as of this moment. So I thought I stop in here and see what every one else was up to. Apperantly (sp) nothing much.
Mookie, can you send some rain on over to the great and lovely state of PA please??? Much appreciated.
I am not sure how to e-mail all this rain, but I will try. I still not too sure who wants to rain on our parade, but we will keep taking all we can get. It has been just gentle rain, no bad weather - just good, soaking rains. We have been so parched for so many years, we will take what we can get.
Everything here runs east, so maybe!
(that's me tasting the rain!)

Good evening everyone.
(Grabs blue plate special with meatloaf, mashed taters with gravy and cooked peas )
Evening folks! Just finished another 4 mile run...the dogs should be home soon! They started off leading, I passed 'em around mile marker #2 and saw them dragging their tails by #3. They thought they were fast...HA! The funny part is I'm ~3 times heaver than both of them put together. 92 lbs. vs 265! I've got some cool water for them so they'll be alright. I doubt they'd make the 28 miles/week that I run though. One night a week will suffice.
Not sure who Mark is but welcome back from where ever you were! I'll probably get to know you in time!
I'll take a pair of sandwiches: creamy p-nut butter and sharp cheddar cheese on whole wheat bread with some skim milk. Tomorrow holds a 150 mile bike ride---on the mountain bike!
