OK her in Philadelphia PA it was 72 degrees out really nice weather. The Rivers around my area are high from the little bit of rain we received over the weekend. Um.. . ........ I saw two trains today. One empty gondola train mostly had CR and NS cars. The train had two NS Dash-9 40CWs on the point. I saw this from West I76 the NS double track mainline runs right next to the highway. I also saw a CSX AC4400CW and another EMD (couldn't make out what it was) on the point of a stack intermodel on NS single track territory in Willow Grove, PA.

One of the accidents (with two of the kids) was in my response area. The baby woke briefly, and the 4 year old was just about ready and willing to take that ride again...

The accident illustrates how much difference a sliver of time can make. One driver (in a Chevy Suburban) felt faint, wandered over onto the paved shoulder (two lane state highway - both drivers doing the speed limit), then back across the center line, where she hit just behind the driver's door of a smaller SUV. The impact spun both vehicles. The Suburban (with the kids) stayed upright and ended up in a ditch. The smaller SUV rolled, possibly in several axes, essentially disintegrating in the process. The driver of the small SUV was ejected, but suffered relatively minor injuries. The driver of the Suburban was shaken.

The point about the sliver of time is this - if the Suburban had crossed the centerline a split second later, the two vehicles would never have touched. A split second sooner, and the contact would have been a full-fledged head-on collision, with serious injuries, or worse. Closing speed, remember, was 110 MPH...

You just never can tell.

I was in an accident that falls into the "sliver of time" earlier catagory. It was just like the accident you described but was the head on version (90mph combined). Both vehicles were FUBARed. Fortunatly, no make that miraculusly no one was hurt.

Larry, thank Heaven no one was seriously hurt. Think I'd rather have a mini-
van, rather than an SUV. The mini-vans have always seemed to be safer
vehicles to me. Personally, I wouldn't want an SUV, unless it was a larger one;
and then I'd have a heck of a time getting up in it, and out of it.

Going to bake some brownies tonight along with muffins: blueberry
and cinnamon/apple for tomorrow's breakfast. Think maybe that
will perk us all up, after this cold, wet, damp weather.

BTW, Mookie: really liked your joke over on the humor thread.

Mookie, so glad to have you back today: you are missed so very much
when you are not here with us.

Went and got the produce this morning: red cabbage, potatoes, oj/tangerine
juice, green onions, and, believe it or not, cans of Pillsbury Grands biscuits.

Since it's raining again, have made more soup: this time, it's potato soup,
and still have chilli left. Mookie, when you awaken from your nap, I have a
slice of chocolate pie for you.

Q: This is funny, since we have little industry, high taxes, a big dig that we aren't sure who is going to pay for it, (Muddy feathers knows about this clear out in Denver area!)
and if they make the states pay for Amtrak, it will stop in Iowa and resume in Colorado!

So not sure why we are happy except we are laughing at the polticos and know that the life span here is one of the longest in the entire country. What can you do but laugh!

...Jen did you see your city, Lincoln, Ne...is on a list of "20 happiest cities"....and is rated a B+...Not bad....I also note Indianapolis is listed on the "20 depressed cities"....Although I really don't understand that as it is a city renewing itself with a bustling down town and new buildings and even a big Mall right in the center of town and other progressive happenings, etc...Almost new NBA Pacer basketball home arena {Conseco Field House}, and on and on....

I have my own countdown; it's at TWELVE days![:I]

If Mookie, the Star of the Forum, continues to be missing in action, she might have gotten weary of being chased and otherwise annoyed by the Star Chaser.

As her Forum brother, I should have seen this coming.[V]

She'll be back--and when she gets back, please, please don't miff her![:(!]

Have fun
Jay

It's listed as a $100 value - I got it for half that, and am frankly surprised that I did. Not complaining, though. Must have been the late hour on a Sunday night.

Not sure when I'm going yet - have to look at when they are running and when I can go. It'll be an all day thing - a couple of hours from here to start with. Trying to get my daughter and her boyfriend to make the trip, too, so they can take some of the usual shots for me (you know, posing next to the engine, etc, etc.)

Hopefully the crew will be kind enough to snap a shot or two if I get to sit in the right-hand seat at all. Otherwise I'll be busy filling up the ol' memory stick. Should be fun! <Foam Foam Foam>

(Ya know - we need a "foaming" smilie....)

You've got that right, Jim. I'm certainly wondering what you're
counting down. Can't be my birthday, because that's 9 days
away. Oh, wait a minute: I think I've figured it out. 8 days away
from the Great Steamboat Race!

Have fixed breakfast, and it's on the breakfast bar: all the usual
breakfast menu. Will be gone for awhile, going to get fresh produce
this morning. Hopefully, the rain will hold off until I get back home with
it. Supposed to come in around 9, 10:00 this morning.

Also hope we see Mookie here, today! She is missed by all, when she
is in absentia!! Mookie, get yourself in here, PLEASE!!
