You know, even at this late hour, a thin strawberry shake sounds good. I've been pretty good about avoiding ice cream this year, but for some reason the water and soft drinks aren't satisfying right now.

It has cooled off outside tonight, but there's not much wind so the house is warm (we've never had a/c). I'm in the basement, which is nice and cool. I'm also late. Had a real problem with being caught on the wrong side of about four different trains on the way out of work. Ask Sarah--she was "with" me, in a sense. She got a chance to hear a pair of good old ex-CNW SD40-2s bringing a stack train back up to speed.

I think I have the oddest array of music. I have Chris Ledoux, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith and that sort of music, Redneck standup(Larry the Cable guy, Bill Engvall, Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, and Roy D. Mercer, as well as a robin williams CD) And then Show tunes, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Annie Get Your Gun, Cats, etc.

Got any Gatorade in this place? 55 Gallon IV Drip? Just back from 4 days of working in Western Colorado and the week almost got longer. UP dumped a coal train this afternoon in the east approach to Glenwood Canyon, west of Dotsero (Blair Ranch, aka ALLEN). What a mess, main line and siding blocked, a bridge (347.12) partially destroyed, and coal cars on the ground at every angle. Amtrak at Glenwood Springs (#6, California Zephyr) being turned around. You will see this in Monday's newswire safe to say.[|)][|)][|)][|)]

Finished the last leg of our trip to Georgia today and got home late this afternoon. This weather is upside down. We had a week of great weather in North Georgia. Temps in the sixties at night and highs in the low eighties. It was so hot coming through Indiana today, I was afraid I might have to ice down the car. Heavy storms just to the west of us coming our way, but very slowly. Lawn does need some water.

Forecast says more like this for the next week. If this keeps up, I am going back south to find cooler weather.

Anybody want to join me for some nice, cold ice cream?
Seems like a good way to cool off some before sleepy time.

Yes, Modelcar, Bobby Vinton is another of my favorites. Blue Velvet, Roses are Red,
love any song by him!

Saturday brunch is now being served: turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage,
biscuits & gravy, and cantalope.

Supper: almost weekly Saturday pizza night.

Hmmmm...now I know why I only go home in November and December! I can deal with cold...99? When the temp. gets that high out here, all I have to do is head to the high country and the mercury drops! There's still snow on the mountains (though it is disappearing pretty quickly).

Maybe I should go climb a 14er. Every time I do that, I usually get snowed on, even in July and August!

You've got AC in the car when you're hangin' out at McClure Rd., right Eola?

I knew Mary was gone, but didn't realize Les Paul was still around. I still don't know why someone would want to listen to today's music when music was so good back then. It made sense - maybe that is the problem.

Actually, to a certain extent they are. If you do force yourself to listen to pop radio, you'll often find remakes of golden oldies. What tickles me is that some of the young listeners probably have no idea exactly how old some of the songs really are.

Good Morning all! Good day to just stay in AC and hang out in Diner with friends. Smoothies are going to be a hot item today CW ( sorry bout the pun ) Maybe fresh strawberry margaritas? The blender is going to be smokin' today.
[soapbox] - Hope to not ruffle feathers or fur. Music is such a commentary on a specific time in our society. The 50's and early 60's the music was about love and happiness, finding a girlfriend/boyfriend and generally happy. So were the times. The leave it to Beaver era. Late 60's early70's were about social upheaval (The song For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield we were quoting a while back). The late 70's (disco) and early 80's were the "ME" era, all about me and overindulgence. Still not about happiness ( Gloria Gaynors " I Will Survive" ). Then the late 80's early 90's we went back to girlfriend/boyfriend but still with overindulgence. Trust me on this one [:-^]
(My heyday) Then in 90's along came grunge. The "I'm so angry at the world, am blaming my parents for everything that's wrong with me (instead of taking the blame myself). Note the popularity of the Jerry Springer type talk shows in the mid to late 90's.
I have to listen to some of this new stuff as I DJ on the side and must stay current on popular stuff. It makes me sick!!! All about death, unhappiness and hating my parents. Don't even let me start about Rap!
This is the reason the band doesn't play any music newer than 90. Life is too short to be ***ing all the time about stuff we have no control on. Let's just have fun and try to be happy, but unfortunately the record producers just stick to what is popular and makes them a boatload of money. Country music is the same, hence the Gretchen Wilson craze and all the resulting clones that are popping up. Pop music is the same, all the Britney Spears clones.
tree- yes that is the case, a vast majority of songs today are remakes. Not enough good songwriters out there and most song patterns and subjects have been covered. Little known factoid for around the water cooler. Every single chord pattern combination has already been put together. Beethoven did it! In his symphonies, he used every single chord combination possible, so see basically no NEW music patterns have been written since. To think Beethoven wrote the chord pattern to "Born to Be Wild" is scary.
Anyway, it's getting hot up here by the ceiling on my soapbox. I just wish we could go back to simpler times and happy music, and not have to worry about tommorrow.
Everybody stay [8D] It'll be hot in the beer tent tonight! Already 93 in the arbor! Willy
