Um.... I also don't think I did well on my exam on Planetary Gear Theory and Valve Body principals in an automatic transmission. That stuff is very confuseing and I still don't understand MOST of the material. I think I'll stick with manual transmissions, I seem to have no problem with them at all. PLAIN and SIMPLE...

I'm not sure, but Fraser might not be an official reporting station anymore. Once upon a time, they had a good shot for coldest temp in the lower 48 every year, vying against the likes of Pellston and International Falls, MN. I can assure that it still gets cold up there, though.

Generally speaking, the coldest temp in the state has been going to Gunnison. If I remember from last year though, Alamosa might pop in with a really cold reading every once in awhile, too.

CopcarSS: I think I resemble that remark[swg]....we officially quit working at Fraser just before turkeyday after burying the truck twice in 8 hours. We will go back out in Mud Season in April after the ski-bunnies go home. We have been working between MP 59 and MP 61.8 all year (Winter Park= MP 57at the tunnel and Fraser = MP 63 at the bottom of the hill, Fraser was a company town for a lumber company and once was a division point on DNWP)...It IS an icebox!

Over here at Carbondale (between Glenwood Springs and Aspen), we are looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow (a dusting for here) and we will head for home late tomorrow morning after trudging around in the white stuff for 3-4 hours. I-70 at Eisenhower Tunnel on the Continental Divide is partially closed due to blowing snow and crazy people driving too fast for conditions.

Encountered Mr. Bull Elk and his harem of 20 does today near Cattle Creek. Quite a sight.

Well, the snow machine is just starting up here, looks like we're going to get about 4-6 inches out of this one, places like Viroqua and Prarie du Chien are supposed to get a little more.

Mud(and snow)chicken, I assume the chain laws are in full effect on the mountain passes right now? I remember checking to make sure our western trucks had the required chains in the boxes.

Present from my mom came in the mail yesterday, got World Championship Poker featuring Howard Lederer for my playstation. Going to be a loooooong time before I get to his level of play, but I'm still trying.

Good morning, everyone! Yeah, I know, I'm up early. Still half asleep,
though. Working on the first cup of coffee. Speaking of which, the
coffee is ready, hot chocolate/cocoa are ready, and I have some hot
cider for Mudchicken and Sarah and Carl. (And anyone else who
wishes to have some hot cider this morning.)

Breakfast this morning: hot oatmeal w/toast, sausage and sausage
gravy w/biscuits, country ham w/redeye gravy, scrambled eggs.

Lunch today: choice of beef vegetable soup, cream of brocolli soup,
and chicken noodle soup. And we'll have some grilled cheese
sandwiches.

An inch here now and 1-3 more proposed by weather.com. Way it looks, anybody coming in for the holidays are going to have to shovel their way in.

Don't care what's for breakfast - as long as it's hot - weatherstation quit recording again last night (it does that when the temp dips below -22). Airport is showing -10 right now, up from a low of -18 around midnight.

Not a cloud in the sky, and snow on the ground, so sunglasses are the order of the day.

It's supposed to get more seasonable later in the week...

Our snow advisory was lifted at about noon. I got out of my meeting and had to scrape ice off all windows. It's still below freezing, so I don't want to shovel while the wet stuff is falling.

Cher, Pat's actually rather proud of her "Grandma" status. Every once in a while, she gets a good laugh out of things that are posted here. (She didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that Lone Ranger joke on the Humor thread, though.)

Randy: Chain laws are in effect, saw about 60 trucks waiting to go up over Berthoud or Loveland Pass on the way home.

Chris/Copcar: Saw 4 EB trains back to back in Glenwood Canyon with the Eagle-Gypsum local running around them at 2PM with no Amtrak in sight. Got home to find out that some Semi driver had himself skewered by #5 just before entering the state (no way could anyone imply that he could not see the train coming out there in the "Great Empty". (Darwin proven correct again))[}:)][}:)][}:)]

Carl: Might be hearing a story in Lincoln soon about some guy in a white truck with foreign tags pulling up to the corner and going "catnip little kitty?", then reporting a mauling by a Nebraska mountain lion. (Still having trouble reconciling mountains with eastern NE)..... as in "Elevator, Elevator, we got the [censored]?"
