18 degrees here this morning.....
PS...Sarah, I believe these sleds were originally produced near Philadelphia......They were the best steering sleds available....

Oh, yeah! I had an extra long one (necessary due to my height). My folks' street was perfect- we lived on the end of a cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill. And it was gravel, which typically turned into packed snow and ice after a couple of storms.

EDIT: See you all later, I'm headed over to the drug store to buy Powerball tickets![;)][:0][bow][(-D][swg][wow][yeah]

Hey Brian,

Can I pass on the cruise and get a 300mm f2.8L IS in its place? Good Luck on the Powerball! The way you've been going with the page thing, that $100 Mil is yours![8D]

I normally used a longer sled, as befit my status as the oldest kid. My little sister had a hand-me-down Flexible Flyer that could maneuver like you wouldn't believe. Everybody wanted a turn on it, and we set up some pretty tortuous runs on a hill a few blocks from the house. Unfortunately, the hill has been leveled in the name of urban development.

Sarah, I wish you could take my daughter snowboarding with you--you two would have a lot of fun together. Unfortunately, this daughter's the one who's in a "delicate condition" right now. I suspect she'll be wakeboarding again by late in the summer, though!

CShaveRR....I just did a bit of checking and found where one can still buy a "Flexible Flyer" sled....It no doubt has been bought out by another company. It indicated the brand goes back to 1900 as a Classic design....And yes, NO sled turned like these sleds did....They had a patented steering system...The first runner "hanger" has a sliding movement to it that would allow the runner to twist along a greater length than ordinary sleds did....and they steered so easy....

Afternoon everyone....

Once again, it's snowing outside, I don't think we're suppposed to get more than an inch of snow, but they were a bit off on Thursday's snowfall, so I'm expecting about 2-3 inches out of it.[sigh]

Driving home Friday morning was a lot of fun, US 51 was somewhat down to pavement, so 40mph wasn't a problem, but I turned onto the county road I live on and didn't get over 25-30 the rest of the way home, with 4wd engaged. The snow was rutted enough to require a bit of concentration to keep it on what I thought was the road.

I take it tonight is the Pizza night, I'll take a sausage, pepperoni, onion, and green pepper on deep dish. Thanks.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I turn 26 on Monday.

Oh, Sarah...I remember the good old days when I liked playing in the snow. We had a hill in our driveway that would get even slicker after it had been plowed. Great for sleds!
I wouldn't have minded joining you on that steep street (I've seen it, folks!). But I wonder whether I would have picked up speed after I landed on my posterior about five feet from the top! AMG

Carl:

Back when I was younger and stupider, I used to ride my bike in the snow up to the farm to go to work. Very interesting experience to say the least!! I've also ridden my bike through mud at the farm to go up and close gates.

My dad used to make huge snow piles with his loader tractor, and we used to dig tunnels inside and make snow forts, etc. out of it. I still prefer using a loader to plow instead of a snowplow, I can get the driveway cleaner, especially when you can carry the front end, and have to use the brakes to steer.

CW, I will take cherry pie for my birthday, I haven't had cake for my birthday since I was about five years old. Not a big fan of cake, sadly.

Carl, tell Ellen after she is done with her situation, that I would be more than happy to take her snowboarding, all she has to do is come on over to the GREAT and LOVELY state of Pennsylvania and I will take her to one of the best runs in the state, which happens to be in the Tuscarora Mountain Range.

Lets see what did I do today.......I went to a train show, Greenburgs and I spent some money, which I really shouldn't of done. Saw some great layouts and also saw, one of my friends who specilizes in railroad embroidery we had a good 2 hour conversation. Then I went home and now I'm on the computer, about to have din din.....

Speaking of din din CW it's pizza night tonight isn't it?? In that case I'll have five slices of chesse please.

Randy will be interested to know that after getting some shot of the Empire Buileder at Duplaineville, I hustled down to Burlington. I beat the train but didn't have time to get a money shot or even an OK shot. Just was able to catch several "going away" shots for my personal file.

There is another topic started showing some good shots of the train at the interchange and as it meets a CN northbound stack train. Somebody else's pictures, but you get an idea of the "quality" of the weather.

That's okay about the shots, Jay. I know firsthand how hard it is to get ahead of anything on the CN without breaking a few speed laws and taking a few short cuts. Today's weather didn't help matters any.

I'll have to hit a friend I know up for a few photos if he actually managed to get any shots. Haven't talked to him in a while, though.

Good Sunday morning everyone! Joe, thank you so very much for starting the
coffee, and making the juice and cocoa.

The breakfast brunch today: blueberry muffins, sausage, pancakes, biscuits
and gravy, and cinnamon spice muffins.

Weather forecast for Louisville today: temp will be slowly dropping throughout
the afternoon, with flurries or light snow showers. Accumulation: dusting to
1/2 to 1 inch.

We got another inch yesterday afternoon- looks like more is coming this afternoon. I don't think we have to worry about Christmas not being white around here.

In other news, I'm now down 30 pounds, thanks to the diner fare.

Brian, hopefully, the Sunday Dinner will help your "appetite": today, we're
having: baked ham, green beans, potato salad, and white cake with
white icing. This dinner will be served from right now until 8 p.m. EST,
when we'll have popcorn and hot chocolate/cocoa.

We got another inch or two of snow yesterday; although it's sunny now, more is coming tonight, they tell us.

This dihydrogen monoxide pollution (see the Humor thread) is becoming disruptive. Sunday traffic is snarled, largely because of this.

Dinner sounds great!

May appreciate the hot chocolate tonight, if I need to tackle the driveway again.

It's starting to snow here now, Carl, so you've got somewhere around six hours before it gets there. Dinner sounds great, although I have to leave some room for our hosts' meal tonight. We've been invited to the home of some fellow church members, after which we're attending the local holiday pops concert. Catch you all later, if we're not out too late!

Well over here in Philadelphia we received about 6 inchs eairly morning but, the interesting thing was when I woke up today at 10 am all of the roads were jeat black, I didn't see a single snow flake on the streets. I had to shovel my driveway though [:(]

I also took advantage of the snow and went snowboarding today!!!!!!!! That was fun. I also went street sliding when it got dark because, the melted snow turned into ice on the roads, but there unfortunitly wasn't enough ice to play some ice hockey. I broke my record of last year by sliding on the ice for a 1/4 mile down my street which happenes to be on a 20 something percent grade.

Lets see I also went 4 wheeling in the snow on my Mom's street which happenes to be what I like to call a "dead street" no one hardly ever drives on her street thus, the City of Philadelphia does not plow it. That was fun too!![:D] I kicked up tons of snow in my truck.

So, you could say that I had a full day, because I'm tired.

Yesterday my dad and I did some railfanning in our V8 Jeep, and we found a road not yet plowed!!![8D]

Fun fun fun!!!![8D]

No snow to speak of today (probably just as well). So I wound up scraping my windows instead of brushing them off when I was ready to come back here.

Snow here yesterday - about 5 inches, maybe a little more. Wind has swung the lake effect south, so last nights last snow blower exercise should hold for a while.

On the other hand, it's c o l d!. Not sub-zero, but 18 is still chilly.

I did get the Christmas lights up this weekend. I might have one more batch to put up, on a small pine tree, but I've got to find them first....

Some hot chocolate to warm up, then back to bed.

Ta Da! It will be 48 here today, so it will be warming up in the east very soon.

Had slow/non draining sink in bathroom. Called Landpeople. Since it is a duplex and bathrooms are back to back, they used our sink to do the work. Snaked down 16 feet and didn't find much. Still didn't drain well. Said they would call a plumber today.

Got a call yesterday from Landpeople. Said they checked the bathroom on the other side before they quit for the day - it was a mess. Rugs were all askew, sink was all scratched up, Figured that was par for people who sound like they let their kids play with bowling balls.

A few hours later, they realized what had happened - they snaked 16 feet from our drain into the bathroom next door. Really messed up the bathroom. Surprised it didn't go down the hall and scare the bejeebers out of the kids that were playing upstairs....

I had to lay the phone down I was laughing so hard!

The Landpeople will be over this morning to snake from the other side and since there are two, one will watch our sink to be sure it all goes in the right place!

I don't know whether to submit it to Funniest Videos or DIY!
