This almost qualifies for the humor thread, but I'll share it here.

First some background. I love to sail. I have a 14' Sailfi***hat I keep at a relative's cottage during the summer, and sail whenever I can. You may recall that my daughter has a Dalmatian. He's not exactly at home on the sailboat (he's kind of big for it, actually), but he does like to go out with "Dad," and has been known to leave shore trying to get out to me while I'm sailing, despite the fact that he doesn't care much for swimming.

So today, my daughter (who lives about 70 miles from here) was walking the Dalmatian along the shore of a lake when the dog nearly pulls her off her feet. She's bracing herself on a tree, looking around to see what he's trying to reach, at first focusing on a nearby car. Then she looks a little further and sees a sailboat out on the lake. All we can figure is that he wanted to go sailing with "Dad..." Go figure.

Tree, that brings memories with you mentioning sailing with a "Sailfish"....45 years ago the wife and I briefly had a small sail boat similar to a "Sunfish"....Perhaps a similar design {copy}, and had some brief fun with it...Right after that period in time we had to leave Pennsylvania and head to our present location, Indiana...Following the job...and we sold it when we got here so that was the end of the bit of sailing...We were simply amateurs but did have some fun for one brief summer....
Item: Being from that time frame...anyone out there hear where Fats Domino the musican and his family were probably lost in the hurricane and flood that followed...He was great....Loved his music....! CW, I'll bet you know of his music.....Believe his age was listed at about 77....

Yes, Quentin, I love listening to Fats Domino!! Unfortunately, haven't heard
anything more on his whereabouts, since the flood. What I had read in our
local paper, he had talked with his manager, and was refusing to leave his
home in New Orleans. And haven't heard anything on him since. The little
article on Fats was in our Friday morning paper. But I haven't heard anything
else, either in the paper, or on TV.

Sunday brunch will be: country ham w/redeye gravy, sausage w/biscuits &
gravy, grits for those who like them, and pancakes w/syrup (maple & blue-
berry). Brunch is being served until 2 p.m., when we'll have the grills ready
to start grilling for the afternoon and evening.

I heard that Fats is OK. I haven't been following the story that closely, but have heard a couple of reports that he's safe.

Having been far removed from "popular" music for decades, I'm surprised that he's still around! I remember hearing one hit of his in the early 1960s, but can't remember what it would have been.

Looks like we're having barbecue today. Cher, I'd love to stay around for some grilled goodies, but have to actually start eating Sunday dinner in the a.m. to make it to work in time. Same thing on the holiday--by the way, everyone except the industry jobs is working at our yard. I hope to get a couple of early hot dogs off the grill before work tomorrow, though.

"Blueberry Hill": You know, "I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill".

I have a plate already fixed for you to take to work with you. It's in the cooler,
with your name on it.

Well... nothing really happend in Philadelphia today. Everyone is away, gone to the shore, Altantic City. Maybe tomorrow I might go railfaning in Conshohocken, PA, since I'm not doing anything. I wonder is there going to be good food here in the diner??

Of course there will be good food here in the diner: we're grilling all the meats
on the BBQ grills, and I've made plenty of cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans,
and Jell-O salads. I've also made the following desserts to last the weekend,
and into next week: Dutch apple pie, banana pudding, white cake w/white icing,
yellow cake w/caramel icing, chocolate cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/
white icing, German chocolate cake; and we also have just about every flavor of
ice cream imaginable. (And we can't forget plenty of corn on the cob!

Sarah,I hope all the food turns out good !! I've got several Roasts(both beef & pork going
on the grills) The chicken is more of Larry's specialty,so he's doing that;we've
got corn on the cob,both cooking in the kitchen,and on the grills. And of course;
we have CW's desserts,plus all the others that people have brought in.
So if you go away hungry,it's your own fault,as there is plenty of food. And everything
extra,will be sent down south for the "hard working" people to have,and enjoy.
They deserve it a whole lot more than we do!!

Carl,thanks for the update on Fat's Domino;neither CW or myself have heard any-
thing on TV,or seen it in the paper.

Special thanks to: Larry,Joe,Pat,and all the others that are helping with the grilling
this weekend. And let me not forget the ones that brought in other side dishes,and
desserts.

Mark Hemphill,hope the Diner reaches Iraq,and that you and the others that are away
from home;have a chance to have a "Home Cooked Meal"!

Well gppd eveing to everyone well today was pretty good day it was a nice day here in milwaukee yet no rain but there was a nice brezze here which felt good and more good news we got one more day before we all got to go back to work on tuesday or even school yeah I know some people hate hearing those words but you know we all have to hear it at one time or another but I shall be going now so I can go and watch tv and just well finish relaxing for the rest of the night and then tomorrow I got to go and power wash a bench for my aunt but. The fun part is that I get to use my really cool power washer but anyway have a good night everyone and I'll be talkin to you tomorrow [zzz][zzz]

well we went out and watched some trains in deshler today.got some aces and a conrail unit with a juanita shops logo on it.even though it was renumbered for csx it was still pretty cool.will clean the grill tonight for the big bbq tommorow.come hungry.

Juice and coffee are ready this fine Holiday morning;the 'brunch'
bar will be ready in a few minutes;and then we have to get back
to the "grilling" for todays meal.

The menu has already been posted,but possibly look for a few

for today. You name it, it's probably been fixed, and ready to go down your
tummies. If you don't see it already fixed, let me know and I'll fix it.

The breakfast brunch is: country-fried steak, biscuits, sausage, gravy,
hash browns, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, fried eggs (over-easy,
yolks broken, very done, nothing too runny, unless that's the way you
like your eggs), and pancakes with the various syrups.[C=:-)][C=:-)]

Working the high school booster club food stand at the county fair today. Not a bad as the holiday pay is double time and a half from the standard rate for volunteers. lol.

(At least it gets me out of the house while major work goes on. The kitchen-family room floor project got expanded to walls, lighting and now they are tearing up the half-bath off the family room. I think I am going to have to get a "real job" to pay for everything)

Judging from last night, there will be plenty of work today when I go in to put in my regular eight-hours-plus. With the holiday pay, though, they're almost paying us what we're worth.

The slow days will come later in the week, in reaction to everyone else's holiday. I get the next two days off (as always), and the business will come back around Thursday, when I do.

Before work, we're going out for our "free lunch" at the forest preserve, where the UTU is holding its annual picnic (well, it isn't exactly free, as a share of my dues has helped provide the food). This year, a couple of the other locals are joining us in putting on the event (we used to just invite them to eat), and some additions to the usual fare of hot dogs, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, etc., are promised.

Good morning everyone well today looks like it is going to be a great day. The temps are going to be about 75 degrees today which will feel just great. Along with a little brezze I think it's a day just to sit back and relax and do nothing and I might just stop by alittle later with some blueberry muffins that are being made as we speak. Mutt and I have been out for a couple of hours. His sister came
down to see us, and we all had a very good visit. [:D][8D]

I can tell you one thing, I'm really having a good time eating all of this grilled food!! I really loved the CORN ON THE COB, oh man. Corn I can't get enough of it. I'm surely glad it's harvest time here in PA!! Oh and that Vanella (spelling) cake was to die for, love the icing. I guess I asked a dumb question last night "Is there going to be any good food in here today". Now I know not to ask that question again. lol

Well I guess the only thing left for me to do is to go swimming so I can burn off what calories I gained then get hungry again and stop in the diner and eat some more.

Well the day is almost over and tomorrow we all start a new week but the good news is it is only a 4 day week which is always a good thing because then I only got to deal with those little and big kids for only 4 days but then again as the year goes on It shall get better right aleast. Hey all, made it back from Omaha this evening, and just finished uploading my pictures from the trip to http://www.flickr.com/photos/85729295@N00/sets/893579/. Check them out! Very interesting action there- lots of eastbound freights going through Omaha, and looks like most of the westbound action was taking the Blair sub. Took members' advice and ventured up to Fremont as well- was definitely worth it. Interesting that I caught the tail end of the California Zephyr leaving the station in Omaha at Noon- it's supposed to leave at 5:40 in the morning (just alittle late!).
