...See some comments above of the Nor'easterner coming down New England and NY, etc....It went farther too. Was "talking" to a friend in the home area of southwestern Pennsylvania last night on here and while we were doing so he said the house roofs were already white from snow coming down and they were looking for a total of up to 6" of the stuff before it stopped. Somerset County, southwestern Penna. Elevation just below 2000'.

...Enjoyed your above shots..{Copcar}.....Love that night shot of the Depot....Not sure where it might be. Always liked this kind of photos. Is it the Denver station....if so it must be the "back" side of it....Believe the front has a neon sign...
Item: Friend and camera expert brought a new lens {Canon}, over to show me this past weekend and he had it on one of his film Canon's and it was a new 17mm-to I believe 45mm. I stood about 6 or 7' to the side of his full size GMC pickup and looked through the view finder and could see the whole truck.....and no distortion..!!! That was wild.

As long as the temperature stays up, we're OK - don't have to shovel rain. Higher elevations are looking at up to 18" of snow from this event - an odd turn from a hurricane, to be sure...

I'll check the straps on the white helmet, though, just to be sure.

Good Morning to you All,

I think I might have to try some of the cider flying around here, and I can be a connoiseur of whine, especially Wahbernet (groan...that was pretty awful).

Brian, on your next trip, you should head out this way. We can head up and climb Long's Peak. When I did that one in 2002, I lost about 12 pounds in one day. It's only 17 miles round trip, and only about a mile of elevation gain! Oh yeah...1 in the Morning is a good time to start to avoid afternoon storms! [:D]

[sigh] I need to do that one again actually. For two reasons: 1) I'm not in the shape I was in 2002, and could stand to lose a bit myself. Did get up to 13 miles with a half mile of elevation gain this year...not bad, but not good either. 2) When I climbed Long's, I had a beautiful day right up to the Keyhole, shown here:

Sorry about the poor quality. Shot that one on 35mm film, and did a really cruddy scan of it. At any rate, after threading the Keyhole, I found a bank of heavy fog headed in my way. Lo and behold, I didn't get to see much past 500 feet or so. Kind of a let down, since I was really looking forward to the vistas from the top (Long's is the highest peak in that corner of Colorado).

As a final let down, the guy who took the tacky summit shot of me managed to get a picture of me, and the fog, and not a trace of mountain, so I'd like to get back there for another tacky summit shot, too.

As reference, here's Long's Peak taken from Bear Lake:

That one's film, too, but Medium Format, so it scanned a little more nicely.

Anyways, hope you all have a great morning.

TTFN!

Okay;cider is taken care of; "whine",plenty of that around here,

Yes, I think we caught it early, so a change in diet should do the trick. This is definitely the motivational kick in the pants that I needed anyway- I'm about 80 pounds overweight. Anyone up for a walk around the block this morning?

Up a little early this morning so I decided to stop by and say hi. I have been lurking around here lately, keeping track of things, but haven't been motivated to get into the fray. Stuff going on, some fun, some work. Got to do some winterizing around here and the leaves are dropping. My goal is to pick up leaves just once more and be done. That brings on the risk of having snow fall on the leaves and much more work in the spring. I have got to consider hired help.

Thanks for the congrats on the 5th star. Promotion brings a new assignment, but I have to work out the acronym.

See you on the forum.

Tree's still around - just haven't had as much time to spend here in the diner. Trying to fit in a few "good weather' projects between the raindrops (which we'll see a lot of today) and the workload here at the salt mines has picked up some, too.

Sara - I'll put Burrville cider up against yours any day. Plus, I can go watch them make it... Reminds me of an "incident" when I was young. The local merchants, police, and others put on a Halloween celebration in the downtown parking lot each year. There were some games (find the pennies in the pile of sawdust), and refreshments, like nice, big, slightly crunch plain donuts, and apple cider from a wooden keg. One year the cider was about two steps short of hard. Nice bite!

Mookie, a "whine and cheese party" sounds good to me. When do you want
to have it?!?!

I think I am awake again, at least for awhile. Breakfast this morning: your choice
of turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, toast, along
with the coffee, juice, hot tea, and hot chocolate.

Lunch will be: spaghetti w/meat sauce (have to fix something kind of soft for
the Mutt to eat), with garlic toast and a garden salad.

May everyone have a great day, and I'll see you all later, after Produce morning
is over.

Not completely - I thought I saw a flash of him somewhere on here.

I did find Marty (derailed) and Zardoz, but even they are scarce. I miss all the old gang and their irreverent humor!

And Tree - are you out there - or did you get blown into Kansas?

All I can do is have a whine and cheese party in the diner and hope they see it!

Well, here it is, 12:46 a.m., and I am wide awake. Looks like I've got the
Diner to myself tonight. See everyone did a good job cleaning up the
lasagna and the chicken w/roasted potatoes and veggies.

Chris, thank you for the compliment on my cheesecakes. We cooks like
to know, every once in awhile, that we are appreciated!!

Hmmmmmm...did somebody say...

Cheesecake! [dinner] Cheesecake Factory's got nothing on you CW. Yours is the best!

Well, glad to see you had a good trip in Chi-town Brian. Good to have you back here, though. You never know when we'll have to fire up the popcorn machine! [;)]

Was going to head out trackside over the weekend, but had too many errands and such on Saturday, and Sunday was ugly cloudy. Stratus just as far as the eye could see. I decided it wasn't worth it, and sat down to catch some NFL action. Shouldn't have done that, either. Both of my teams, the Pack and the Broncos, lost heartbreakers in the last seconds. Hate it when that happens.

Well, I guess I had best be upon my way. Hope you all have a great week. See you in here tomorrow.

Well, I just started a diet geared for diabetes thanks to my doctor, but hey, everything here at the diner has zero carbs, right?

So bring on the lasagna!

We managed to top out at 50, according to the weather report I just heard.
It's still quite windy out, though.

Joe, your lasagna is ready, and there's a plate made up for you to take
to work with you tonight.

And Sarah, you most certainly can have some garlic toast with your
chicken and roasted potatoes.

Mookie, you mentioned lasagna, so am making lasagna, w/garlic toast;
also have some chicken w/roasted new red potatoes and veggies. So
you'll have your choice of those two specials, along with our anytime menu.
And when you get that recipe figured out in your head, would you mind
sharing it with me?

Joe, our rain has stopped here; weatherman said this morning that it was
possible we could see some snowflakes, but I've been out a couple of
times today, and haven't seen any. But with the wind blowing, it feels like
we could see some snowflakes blowing around out there. At least, if we do,
the ground's not cold enough for it to stick.

Ahhh, good to be back on the forums! A little telecommunications snafu has had me off-line for a week, and the e-mails are sure piling up! Nonetheless, I stopped in at a Kinko's last night, and again this morning, to get my fill of internet-related stuff and upload a bunch of photos and other stuff to my website -- see What's New.

I think I'll stay away from the turkey bacon, but the sausage sure sounds good...[:P][dinner]

Lasagne - count me in.....

Need to borrow some rice from the diner - got a makeup receipe in my head - sausage and rice somehow put together. I may try to do one of those really earth shaking things - cook at home tonite!

Or, maybe not!

Better hit the hammock to make my decision....think better with eyes closed.....ah....

Brian, I've never had any cheesecake from the Godiva Cheesecake Factory,
but I have a recipe for my cheesecakes that is out of this world, imo.

Coffee and juice are ready. Breakfast this morning will be turkey bacon,
sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal & toast, all the stuff to warm us all on
this very cool, rainy Monday morning.

For lunch, we have leftover porkchop abracadbra and stuffing, from yesterday.

Will take some suggestions as to what you'd like for supper tonight. I'm
thinking lasagna, maybe you all will have some other suggestions. So let
me know what you'd like to have for supper tonight. (Need to know by around
noon, so I can get it started).

Illinois 38 is closer to the tracks than 88 nearly all the way across the state (it only goes as far west as Dixon--then you take Route 2 beyond Sterling and Route 30 west to Clinton).

Had to travel to our other plant in Rochelle for 3 weeks a while back and ended up taking Route 30. It parallels 88 and has just been reblactopped. Could make the trip in 15 minutes quicker even though it's a 55 MPH zone. Willy

Eh, I can live with it to get to my favorite stretch of highway. Didn't see any cops when we went through between 3 and 4 PM this afternoon, but it didn't really matter- you still get behind someone who believes in toeing the line, and you're stuck there...

Brian. don't you just love the 40 miles of construction between Rochelle and Sterling?
45 MPH limit and cops every mile without a worker in site. They've even got the unmarked vans with cameras sitting in the medians. I think our governor is trying to pay for the whole project with double fines for speeding. He probably has to as he's sqandered the rest of the states money.. He'll be next in line behind the Texas rep Tom DeLay. Willy

Hi all, just got back from Chicagoland. Had a great weekend, rode Metra's Aurora sub into the city from Lisle, walked all the way from Union Station to Hancock and back, then today spent some time driving around the Naperville/Eola/Aurora area before catching the tollway home. Tried to get some photos during the Metra ride, but due to cloudy conditions and tinted windows, they just didn't turn out very well. I've got a few questions concerning some of the things I saw, but I think I'll start a separate thread for that. Hey CW, you have anything that would rival Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory in the Hancock building?
