Hi all, been away for the weekend visiting my folks as well as two of my sisters up in Minnesota. Hit the Mall of America not once, but TWICE, [xx(] plus a side trip to the new Ikea store. Didn't make it home until nearly 11 PM last night. Hope all is well here in the diner, I'll try to catch up. Will need to avoid the good meals for alittle bit, though- Mom sure knows how to feed us up there.

Oh, and GO VIKINGS!!! [:D]

Evenin all, Hope any Diners from down under are safe. She sounds like she's a vicious one. Sounds like the Ohio Valley is going to get wet. Joe, Mutt and CW try to keep your powder dry!

Chris- are you tearing that cabin down or building? Have always wanted one, but it's getting late in life. I would be happy to have that one to restore.
Larry- Am 18 year vet of VFD. Quit due to politics. You know what I mean. About 8 years ago we had to pull a farmer out of the top of an 80 ft Harvestore silo. Had to climb the cage ladder then lift SCBA and gear to top with rope. Had to bag him in a scopes basket and lower him down. All the time his family and media watching. Really tore my back up that day. He had been farming for 30 years and knew better than to go in without safety gear, in fact he wouldn't even let his farmhands climb the ladder. Most of the guys on the Dept wouldn't climb that for fear of heights. *** newbies! IT'S NOT THE FALL, IT'S THE SUDDEN STOP!

Evening/morning all.

Sarah, to quote from Ron White: "It's not THAT the wind is blowing, it's WHAT the wind is blowing. If you get hit with a Volvo..........."

Willy, being the son of a dairy farmer, know all about silos and Harvestores, luckily the only one we have is for shelled corn. Tip for other people: Never stand under the silo chute while your father is hauling up a silage fork (I have two holes in my left leg from just such an incident about 13 years ago).

CW, I think I'll try some pineapple upside down, er, right side up, er..., sideways, er......., ah, who cares, I'll try some pineapple cake!!

I am so in a quandry!

I like both the Vikings and the Packers! And ......KC and Rams, sort of, and even ....dare I say it....the Cowboys! Oh and don't forget the Broncos!

Fortunately it doesn't really matter that I do, does it!

Anyone get soaked by hurricane? Mutt, CW?

Something I have been pondering - the hurricane was still in the gulf and we got rain. Any meteorologists want to explain that one to me?

(Answer: It's Fair Week! It always rains during Fair Week!)

Time for coffee -

We'll be seeing the remnants of Katrina later this week.

Mook - Despite the center of the storm coming ashore at Nawlins, the Atlanta area suffered damage from one of the rain bands. Next time one of these things crops up, watch the radar images for related action away from the center - you'll see how far their influence can spread.

Willy,

Actually, as long as you are a taxpayer, you can consider that one partly yours. It's one of the Shipler Cabins along the Colorado River in Rocky Mountain National Park. Just down the road...er...trail from Lu Lu City (yes, there is a ghost town named Lu Lu City). I wasn't happy of the shot of the 844 and me, so I had to put something else up there. This one fits the bill, for now.

Hopefully someday I'll have a cabin off the beaten path...

I did hear that it would eventually affect New York. That just amazes me!

I guess most of this rain will go east of Chicago; I've heard forecasts of nothing but fair weather through the weekend.

I think I've experienced "remnants" only once or twice. One time we had a rain storm with a very windy period in the middle of it. The other time was more impressive--an amazing cloud bank to the southeast, while our skies were still clear.

I'll keep up the demand for that yellowish cake with the pineapple rings--and I'll bet it would be good with wild strawberries and ice cream, too.

Slightly subdued celebration--passed the 2000-mile mark for the year on my bike yesterday. Subdued because this is far behind where I've been in years past.

Kind of light on the produce today: corn, potatoes, canned soft drinks and
pineapples. So Carl, I'll be a making more pineapple upside down
cakes. If Kevin would give me his address, maybe I'd send him a cake
all his own!! And Carl, whatever you want to have with your cake, you can!!

Lunch menu: beef vegetable soup w/cornbread. Think maybe I'll fix myself
some cornbread mush for supper tonight. Anybody else want some?

And speaking of supper, the supper menu will be: hamburgers w/cooked
onions, and fried potatoes. And there'll also be some corn on the cob for
supper.

Corn on the cob?

Yell out the door in Sarah's direction, then run for cover!

(I'll be there for the burgers.)

The Niagara Region near Buffalo (where I live) is expected to get as much as 4 inches of rain. I don't know if that will flood us although our U.S neighbours to the east of the Niagara River have flood watches. The greatest concern I have is being that I live close to the escarpment; mudslides.

As an odd part of the aftermath of Katrina...
Humidity in Houston is Down...that’s right, down, to 50%, and temps went up, hit 98 today.

But it’s a dry heat!

Yeah, like a dry 98 is ok….

Watching the evening news...New Orleans is destroyed...Governor is debating evacuating the city completely...no power, and none expected for weeks, no drinking water at all, major city water main destroyed...news film shows the city is chest deep all over, with no where for the water to go, IH10 is closed, with abandoned cars parked all over the overpasses.

Well, it's raining pretty good now. I have noticed that the Niagara Regional Engineering workers have been monitoring the escarpment so obviously they are concerned with mudslides too.

Not a major problem here because most of it is rock but some of the surface is ground. If it does happen though, it won't take too long to clear. Everybody and there uncle practically has a frontloader "plenty of construction and construction like companies"

took a pineapple cake over the Date line,it wouldn't
be pineapple anymore.[:-,]

For Rent:

2 Bedroom, 2 story side-by-side duplex. Full basement with finished study area. Small washer and dryer included. Detached garage. Very nice landpeople.

Children will be screened for noise and checked against a destruction scale. Tight restrictions.

New carpet, so sorry, no pets. Really sorry - since they are usually quieter than most humans.

Noise will be limited to the usual "normal" noise of day-to-day living. No "thunder in the driveway", no foot races up and down the stairs and no parachuting off beds and dressers.

Must move to Lincoln! Avail 1/06.....maybe sooner if Mookie keeps ringing doorbell at 3:30 am and asking if "we" were too noisy for them.....

coffee......[|)] [banghead]

Mookie, glad to know you are guarding the cakes!! We are at a nice, comfy 68
degrees this morning; high to be 82 or 84: can't remember which I heard this
morning.

Breakfast: oatmeal & toast, turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled
eggs, or any cereal you may want.

Home weather station showed 1 3/4" of rain so far from Katrina at 7 am. Rain started around 11 last night. Radar makes it look like it could back off by noonish, so this will be needed rain and not a catastrophe. We suffered some flooded basements last fall with another of the hurricanes that wandered through the area.

Gee, Mookie, my mother and sister have been telling me that now that the kids are out of the house I should move from where I am. Lincoln doesn't sound bad, but I think they want me to move to Phoenix. If I was going to move, it would probably be to Nebraska, rather than Arizona. It may be a dry heat, but it's still heat...
