Tree - "branching" out into poetry/prose, hmmmm.....

Glad you are getting snow - that means it is far away enough from us to not back up!

We have a district chief here with LFD - he is so soothing on the radio. They could be burning down half of Lincoln and he is just like a cool glass of water. He stays composed, talks slowly, is clear and concise. Unlike a certain person who would be
excitedandrunherwordstogetherand flapherhandsandarmsand......I do that just listening!

Oops - I was wrong. It IS sticking to the roadways, etc.
Unfortunately, the cars aren't. Neither did this one.

Of course, we've got plenty of these.

'Snow Joke - it's snowing to beat the band outside, and piling up. Doesn't seem to be sticking to the roads, but the grass and stuff is slowly disappearing under a blanket of white.

And to help make it "beautiful"

SNOW (1985)

Snow, that blessed, cursed fruit of the sky:
Sometimes floating,
Often flailing,
Always frozen.

It covers the land with a mantle of alabaster,
Purity personified.

Lying on the landscape like grandmother's quilt,
Swept into hills and valleys by the whistling wind,
What marvel this myriad collection of flakes: individual
Indistinguishable, woven into a blanket of white
By a power greater than ours
To be rent by man:
The rumbling, clanking plows
The children of all ages
Who become, in its presence
Artists, architects, and engineers.

I would love something I haven't had in many, many years....grilled cheese sammich with bacon inside and a cold chocolate milk! To die for - that's why I quit eating it....

Here's what's for lunch today:

The usual burgers, fries, hot dogs; along with: some of Carl's Hearty Soup,
or you can have mild chilli, or five alarm chilli, and we'll have some grilled
cheese sandwiches to go along with the soup or chilli.

Well, I finally woke up and got in here, folks!! Jim, glad Mookie could answer
your question about real diners. I just figured that the good men working on
the railroad, would like some good ole downhome country cooking. And
that's what I do, since I grew up in the country.

Joe, thank you for getting the coffe, juice, and hot chocolate going this morning!
Guess it was just too comfortable and warm under the covers, to wake up this
a.m.! Don't usually sleep that long.

Breakfast this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy w/biscuits,
scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, jelly.

Gonna slide back into a corner, and drink about a gallon or two of coffee now,
just to get my eyes really open!![|)][|)]

I'm not looking forward to going to work in the cold weather tomorrow.

It's dropped down to a balmy 13 degrees here near Madison at 3:30 am.

At least the truck started okay tonight, a bit of smoke, but ran pretty good.

For some strange reason, maintenance at work tonight was working on trying to get the new heaters going. It didn't help either that the doors kept opening to get trailers swapped out.

Have a good morning, everyone.

Randy
Randy - about the same here last night - finally got the doors unstuck, but still had trouble getting one closed. Then the tires were frozen to the rock parking spot. Had to back up several times to break them loose! Ah - winter!

Jim - the beaneries here in the middle of the country served just about what our two local diners serve today - eggs/bacon/potatoes for breakfast - burgers- graveyard stew - soppy - (bread and gravy)
and lots and lots of grease. Or you carried your own lunch in your lunch bucket and ate it cold with your thermos of hot coffee on the engine. Lots of Tums (circa 1950's)

CW - is home-cooking unlike you would ever find in most railroad towns - but who would really have their heart in cooking at 2 am when the rest of the town was dark and asleep!

Hi Joe - glad to see you again!

CopcarSS, enjoy your stay here in Chicago, if you can, there is a lot of great railfanning in the area!!

CW I'll be having some of those Chicken and Dumplings now, please. [:D][bow][dinner]
Yum Yum gimme some! Can I have a sprite to go with that please?

Well, to my surprise it got really dark here in Philly at 4:00pm, it looked like it was midnight, however, no rain just wind. I guess we're due for a storm sometime soon. I just hope it doesn't come over the weekend because I plan on doing some railfaning.

Looks like it was all bark and no bite last night, got about a half inch of smow, but the winds don't seem to be too bad around here. It's getting preeeeeeeety cold up here, though. It's about 21 here at 2pm cst, down from a high of 34 or so at 1am. Forecast low tonight is around 14.

Madison had the interstate ice capades during morning rush hour, lots of black ice on the bridges and overpasses. Quite a few wrecks on the Beltline this morning. Time to get used to driving in snow and ice again. [B)][B)][xx(][xx(]

Chicken and dumplings sounds good tonight, I think I'll swing in to grab leftovers after work tonight, I figure by then I'll need something hot to warm myself up after tonight!!

See everyone later.

Well, I'm in the process of getting the chicken and dumplings ready for
supper. It'll be ready between 5:30 and 6:30, EST.

Chris, have a safe trip, and keep in touch with us. Hopefully, after you
return home, you'll have some pictures to show us all.

Sarah...I havn't looked at the weather radar in the past several hours but I'd day that cold front is approaching your area and You WILL experience the massive temp. drop....We were in mid 60's here yesterday and by late evening it had dropped into the 40's and continues to drop a bit all day today....So it's coming. Low 30's now. Teens tomorrow morning.

CW I'm glad to here that you and Mutt are ok after those violent winds and rain you guys received last night. Well, at least it's over and everything seems to be intact. Oh and one more thing..........I CAN'T WAIT FOR THOSE CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS TONIGHT!!!!

Tree, blhanel, and jeaton I WANT SOME SNOW!!!!! I need to go snowboarding and I need to have off from school. I do feel a little left out here. lol It is very humid and it is about 65 degrees here in PA, with exception of the mountains. I had to break out the shorts and short sleeves today. I'm begining to wonder if PA with exception of the mountains is going to get any snow this year?? I might just have to be contint with going to the mountains this year.

CopCar, have fun in Chicagoland!!

Well at work last night (10 pm to 6 am) it was cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. [:0] Now if you remember that is not a bad statement as far as morality but it is a bad statement weather wise. [;)] Just ask any sailor. [:p] And tonight is going to be 10 degrees colder. Hopefully it won't be as windy but I am not sure about that. Last night's wind was bone chilling. [:(!] [:(] [V] I might go shopping for some long john bottoms this afternoon, I already have the uppers. And I am not referring to teeth either. [:o)] [;)] [}:)]

Today it has only warmed up 10 degrees from last night low and it is after 1 pm now. [:(] [:(!] [:(] I do not like cold weather. But I ain't too fond of over 90 degree weather either. What is a guy to do, put it on or take it off? I'm soooo confussed. [:0] [B)] [8]

Well, I better go catch my nose, it is running. [:I] [^] [:o)]

Q - that was the first time I remember actually seeing Muncie on the weather map!

You are like Lincoln - it looks like total devastation if it hits, but it usually just passes over and beats up on Omaha or Iowa!

...Jen....The red blotches coming at us from that massive storm line was scarry looking...and we actually was under tornado warnings for some time last evening but when the "red" stuff {from radar}, passed over us, I was amazed what we didn't get...I was expecting some nasty destructive forces from the massive front but we somehow lucked out....There was some damage in Indiana but we once again got lucky....33.1 degrees here now with very light fine snow flakes occasionally...36 early this morning....

Good Morning Everyone,

Well, I'm off to Chicagoland as of tonight. Hot dog! Looking forward to meeting up with a couple of our forum members, here!

Meanwhile, I finally did get all my shots edited from my last adventure back on the 5th. They're up at: http://www.pbase.com/copcarss/rmnp_11505 Not as great as I was hoping, but mildly interesting. There's a new shot of yours truly, that also now graces my profile here at Trains.com. I know it's a little late for Halloween, but if you want to see an ugly creature, you can go check it out.

Well, I'll try to check in later today before I head out, but if I don't, I'll catch you all in Chi-town!
