Yards here on the sandbar are completely brown. Looks like the dead of winter. Corn is curled and reaching, looks like acres of pineapple. Beans are curled up and wilting. Farmers are in trouble! Even the larger elm tree leaves are curling up. The only part of my yard that's green are the flowerbeds, and that's due to the sandpoint and sprinklers running almost 24/7. If I let mama's plants die I'm afraid there will a rituallistic sacrificing of one of the ROCK'S engines upstairs. We need rain bad. Anyone got any good tips on how to do a rain dance? Willy

CW & I were out this afternoon,she had some books to return to library,so I decided to

Sorry Jay, had to step out for a second. Son called, was running late home from work. Daughter in law has to leave for work at 10:45. had to go keep an eye on the "angels" for a few till he got there. Drove by bank, it's still 83 at 11!! Does feel as though it's trying to blow something up. Jay, did you guys get any rain Sat. night? Was playing at Polo IL up by Rockford and it rained pretty hard about 11. Was watching the race in West Allis and it was dowhpouring there. Anyway the beat will be on 1 and 3 like the Indian music, so if we all get together like Woodstock and chant and dance in our prospective areas, maybe SOMEONE will get wet. Good morning. Getting ready to do the produce run this morning. Have
set breakfast out on the food bar: bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal
and cereal.

Fire in the sky overnite - paws covered eyes! .86 on rain so they tell me. One time the noise from above drowned out the noise from next door! [^]

Have a super lawn mower - he comes over just when it starts to get long. Course, we pay him rent, too!

We don't have a pool, so he is our yard "boy". Nice eye candy, too.

Locomutt.....We have been blessed with more rain overnight...Believe most of it fell early this morning. The thunder noise woke me and that was between 5 and 6.
Just went out and checked the rain gauge and WOW....Another inch of rain on top of the inch we got late yesteday afternoon....!! Now that much rain will do some good.
Corn in the fields here is at least waist high...and growing fast and with this rain and if the heat continues it'll grow 10" in the next 24 hrs.......And look out, the yards will resume their growth too. Mine has already added much green...

We actually did have some rain overnight(3:00 am or so).
Not really sure of amount,but definitely enough to 'wet' the
grass,and make a few small puddles on streets.
Although the temp. here is a bit lower this morning,I won't
say the bit of rain did anything for the humidity.

Willy,guess your 'rain dance' did some good after all.

The tin roof of the porch on the house we painted Sunday was ready for cooking, for sure. I had to get down on my hands and knees to paint under a couple of sills. I didn't stay there long...

And we'll take some of that rain. They keep promising it to us, but it all stays south of the Thruway...

...Weather people in Indy say the area will be back up to 89 today. Believe our rain has and is moving on out of here {northeast}, and humidity and later heat will replace it. Our street was covered with water two hours ago...at a typical location it gathers during a hard rain but it is now pretty much run off. But the amount of rain we've had in past 12 hours will really do some good.

We did get a storm with a fair amount of rain last Saturday night. Thanks.

Dry since then. Been dumping a lot of water on a couple of large brown areas on my front lawn. There is an ancient gravel driveway about 6 inches below these areas and the ground dries very fast. Drainage is so good that maybe it is actually over a piece of railroad ROW designed and installed by Mudchicken.

Very hazy overhead today. Could be some rain on the way or just smog.

Jay, we've got a flower bed in front of house the same way with gravel. About the only thing that will grow in there is Mums and Daylilies. Mama wants me to rent a Bobcat and dig it all up and replace with dirt. Looks like a fair amont of rain heading across IA towards us today. Keep praying! Willy

Our favorite cook is going to have a whole bunch of stars very soon. So we need to decorate and put up a sign and congratulate her when the time comes.

I would make the sign, but don't spel two will, too short to hang it, can't cook worth a darn, and can't do dishes - gets my fur wet and me unhappy. So I will just rest here on a chair and play yardmaster! No - I take that back - Superintendent would be better! Yep!

Still no rain here, to speak of, and I have 88 on the Bug right now (2:00 p.m.). That makes it cooler than yesterday by a few degrees, but you'd never know it. Today we have an ozone advisory. Uncle-in-law is here from California, and complaining (OK, just commenting) about air quality, if you can believe that. We will, however, heed the advice given us by radio, and take the train into the city when we pick up his wife from her Amtrak trip. I hope Julie's right about the projected arrival time!

Weather update: Had lunch in north central Muncie this afternoon with friends and while inside it started to rain....and rain....and rain. Estimate it rained an inch and a half in the hour plus we spent inside having lunch and waiting to leave. Driving towards home which is 5 1/2 miles from city center {west}, we had to weave in and out to different streets because of street flooding....We worked our way out of Muncie and arrived at our location.....and the streets were dry...Yes, dry...! That much rain in Muncie in roughly an hour and a half and 5 1/2 miles from center city...no rain..!

Carl your ozone advisory is nothing compared to the greater Philadelphia reagion's ground level O3, it's awful, but not as bad as Camden right across the Ben Franklin Bridge, less than a mile. Isn't that intereresting?/// Our NOx emissions aren't that great though. I think we out do Camden on that one.

Yes it was another hot one here in Philly today but, it wasn't as hott yesterday because we had a nice lovely, amazing down pour. Oh that felt good!! We needed the rain too water levels have been down and crops weren't doing too good here. It wasn't enought to give us flash floods though, I sort of wanted that because I could of gone over to the Susqy (Susquhanna River) and watch it rush, it's reallly neat!!!

Mookie, I think you would be an excellent superintendent!! People could learn some good stuff from you, I have a question though could I be the Gerneral Manager of Operating Practices??? I can show you credentuals if you want. hehehehehe[:D]

Hello folks! I've had a BUSY afternoon. Noticed we were running
very low on cookies here, so I've been in the kitchen this afternoon
baking cookies!! I am about done in. Also was fixing supper at the
same time:

roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans and corn.

Also have PLENTY of tomatoes from Produce pickup this morning.
That's about all I got this morning, except for some onions.

Mutt did tell me this morning that we had some rain, and a very good
light show lighting up the entire sky. I didn't see anything or hear
anything until I awoke at 5:15 this morning. With what little rain we
did get, though, it is so cotton-pickin' sticky outside. Have some more
ice cream sandwiches for dessert tonight. Will also have some
freezer pops, as requested by Joe.

Jay - Wisc & Southern is opening the roundhouse in Janesville for free tours on July 9th (10 - 3). I'll be there around noon. I went down the other day - The E9 is resting in the yard along with the business cars.
