Homemade ice cream sounds really good right about now, think I'll belly up to the counter and have some.

Went to the NTPA pull at Tomah this weekend, I now have a new respect for those guys after seeing those rigs up close. They sure spend a lot of time and money on those trucks/tractors.

I know how you feel on that one! A fellow firefighter from another department is suffering significant health problems (the prognosis is not good), so around 30 of his brother and sister firefighters from his department, as well as myself, primed and painted his house today (Sunday) in near 100 degree heat (actually one person reported 102). For me, that included a three hour drive each way, although I did have a good meal from their new field days kitchen before I left to come back home.

We got the whole thing done, though, including contrasting trim. I'm pooped![:)]

Sorry, but I am going to have to do something to block your last post above. I have my wife convinced that any temperature over about 82 degrees is too hot for painting. (Like the paint will curdle or something in high heat.) If she sees your post, I may be in big trouble.

Nice thing you did, though.

According to the Weather Bug, it got to 99 degrees in Lombard today. Surprisingly we had a little--very little--rain this evening. It kept the dust down for an hour or so.

Sarah, I'm sorry for waking you up this morning; I hope that the steady parade of trains was worth it (three freights went through without the crossing gates getting a chance to rise).

I guess I should tell the folks about my religious experience for today and the travails that a churchgoing railfan/railroader goes through:

As some of you know, one of the high points of summer for me is church in the park. Said park is across the street and a station platform away from the UP main line, and we set up our chairs to have the sun at our backs and the trains at our front.

We had a tenor from our church choir doing the special music today. Just as he got up to sing, the platform bell started ringing. He gave me an exasperated look, and said just one word: "Carl..." General laughter of the type often heard in church. I said, "It'll go by slowly, and be quiet enough for you."

After his number, our minister said, "I told Carl that, given the choice, the train should go through during the special music instead of my sermon--I hope the five dollars helped!" Well, I never saw five dollars, so I said nothing. But, sure enough, before he was done with his sermon, a third train went through (we had been singing a hymn when the second one went by--four new GEVOs on the point). He stopped preaching, and looked at me and asked, "Carl, why is this happening?" The answer (thanks to a very quick suggestion from my baby girl): "Your sermon's too long!" General laughter, and a high five from my future son-in-law.

My wife also got into the act, pointing out later to the minister that four trains had gone through in the half-hour after the service had ended--so I really had tried to hold 'em back!

Gee, I'd like to find a chuch like that around here. Maybe we should start one
over by the tracks two blocks south of our house!!

Breakfast this morning will be: turkey bacon, sausage and biscuits & gravy.
Will also have corn flakes, raisin bran, Cheerios, and Fruity Pebbles.

You all need to get some seismic activity going in your respective locations and start some mountain generation. There were times up in Georgetown over the weekend I was wishing that I had a jacket with me!

I wonder how our Hawaiian Princess, 2-6-2 #12, is going to deal with the cool weather?!?!?!?

Picked up a couple more picnic tables, especially for use under the awning. A few of the denizens of the Diner decided to make sure they were suitable for use:

92 and climbing here in western burbs of Chicago. Really don't feel much like a big meal so had yogurt and fruit for lunch. My better half tells me it's going to be grilled (outside) dogs or deli sandwiches for dinner which sounds good to me. Watering is now restricted here in Aurora on a odd-even schedule and only very early and late in the day. My lawn and garden which looked great only thirty days ago now looks really bad. I could never ever live in Florida (sorry Floridians, only the way I feel).

Afternoon all, Le Pant, Le Pant [sigh] Local weather called for 92 today. It's already 94 in the shade in the arbor. Just trying to keep the hostas and lillies alive. Have to add cool water to the ponds just so the koi don't overheat. I don't think I've ever seen fish pant, unless Mook was chasing them. Was going to go to Galesburg this weekend but it was just too hot and didn't think knee would hold up. Besides then I would just find some more rolling stock that I "need".
Was hot in the beer tent Friday night. Drank three bottles of Gatorade and never peed once. Was sweating like a hooker on nickel night.
CW- Just a lemonade today. It's just too hot to eat!

As you said - "Le Pant, LePant". And it isn't even July! Then for variety - take the lid off, add about 1/4 cup of water and put the lid back on. Cook on high heat! Free Steam Bath!

Just a friendly reminder for crews and those at, soon will be, and/or working trackside in the summer heat. Be sure to pack alot of bottled water, something to snack on, and a place to get in out of the heat. Have a safe summer [8D].

Take care,

...Finally, we were located at the right place......Some black clouds moved in and we got 1" of rain about the 6th PM hour and no high wind just the needed rain. Lucky...It's been around the area but just pop up stuff and this time we got lucky and was under one of them. Really needed it. And I got my yard mowed and all finished up this morning. Water puddles on the street even....Haven't seen that in some time.

Tom....I don't know....my yard has been hanging in there very well....In fact this is the longest period I've gone between mowings...1 week. Prior to that it's been every 3 to 4 days between mowings. It has been staying greener this dry spell than it usually does....and I don't really understand it. This time though, it was looking like it was in the beginning stages of getting brown. Now we'll get a green up with the 1" of rain we got...Lucky us.

My only saving grace is my yard is very shady!!! Still with no rain its hasn't grown at all. The front is starting to turn for the worst!!!

...One factor may be my yard has annual treatments....4 from Spring through Fall. Just our west side has a fair amount of shade, the rest gets a bunch of sun. The shady part does grow faster, all the time raining or not.
