We got about 0.1 inch of rain last night (in our own gauge). 'Twas a noisy one--woke me up. But it's still going to be a steamy day today. Tomorrow the temperatures are supposed to drop, at least temporarily.

I had a lazy weekend--now it's back to work, and I hope things have improved. With any luck, the broken retarder will have been repaired. And, after many months, we've finally reassembled the best possible combination of CROs on our shift--we've always worked together very well.

...Just received another .4" of rain here in Muncie in the last hour...Grass will really be growing over the weekend as it is to be nice and sunny. But we may have some storms later this afternoon and get more of the stuff.....Warm and sticky and cloudy right now. And so is the weather here in central Indiana.

I am now ready to let you all know what you'll be having for supper tonight
here in the Diner:

grilled porkchops with potatoes done on the grill, and some good ole
yellow corn on the cob, AND white sweet corn on the cob, or you can
have some white sweet corn off the cob.

Have plenty of lemonade, iced tea and tropical punch made up to
quench our thirsts.

Dessert this afternoon and tonight will be leftover chocolate birthday
cake and a white birthday cake. You'll have to eat them INSIDE the
diner, though: if you take it out on the patio, the heat will melt all the
icing off!!

BTW Sarah, congrats on the star, AND the A on your paper!!

Why don't you all come up to milwaukee for a day at summerfest or even better yet. You can come out to wakesaha and ride. My shuttle down there just look for a big ol yellow bus. [8D][:D]

Who knows with the way that retarder has been acting all last week I don't know it might just fail again. Hopefully not though. Well at least you won't have to work with Pat M. lol

CW thanks for preparing this meal. I'm going to have two corn on the cobs (kern as I call it is one of my favorite foods). I think I'm going to have some Tropical Punch too. CW I have to say I really love your home cookin'!!!

Ok I was a little ticked off last night because it was thundering and lighting last night here but, there was no rain. WHATS UP WIT DAT???? I did get to see some reverse lighting though which was pretty awsome. Though I wanted the full effect.

Today was my last day in school thank goodness, for three months, but I have to go and work in the blazing heat. Oh and today I almost had to break up a fight between two of my classmates one of them my friends. That was interesting. Cuss words were up the wazzo, in that classroom today. That would of been interesting. I might of had to start placing bets lol . I haven't seen a good fight since last night watchin Ultamate Fighting Championships. lol No the last time I witnessed a fight was in high school last year.

Railfan619 I hit the same puttle today in my truck. Oh goodness I love doing that!!! I also love ripping through pot holes that other little cars have to dodge. lol

Well, railfan619, there's just one problem with the "big fan" theory. All the hot air down there would also move up there with the water and you fellows in the Midwest sure don't need any more hot, humid air. When I was growing up alongside the Monon, a shower usually brought cooler air. Here in Sarasota the rain is hot and if it's 93 when it starts to rain, it'll be 93 after it stops.

You must've had a low precipitation storm. We get a lot of those out here. Did you go chasing it? LP storms have a higher frequency of producing tornadoes, and they're great for getting pictures of mesos, funnels, and tornadoes, since there isn't too much rain/virga obscuring views.

Case in point, my closest encounter storm chasing a few years back:



This is a mesocyclone in the southern Denver burbs that produced an F2 (that I didn't get to catch...was at work at the time). Luckily no injuries reported on that one. It's a whole lot more fun to chase them out in the middle of nowhere and you're not worried about people in its path, and you enjoy the awesome beauty of the creature.

At any rate, I never got rained on with that one. Not one drop fell. Your story kind of reminded me of that Sarah.

Good beautiful Friday morning, everyone! Got a good rain last night with
the thunder and lightning. Our temp is about 75 this morning, and the
humidity of waaaay loooooow!!

Breakfast this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, peaches
& cream oatmeal w/toast.

Lunch will be fish sandwiches, french fries or you can have fried pork
chops w/mashed potatoes and green beans and cream style corn.

...That lunch menu sounds good. Up here in central Indiana, we're indicating just about 70 degrees at a bit after 7....and in the next 6 to 8 hrs. we are to see much cooler overall weather today with lower humidity. That will be welcome. It is to be rather nice in this area for the long holiday weekend.

Twice in a row now, I get to the diner and my lil' sister has come and gone! Or maybe she's just curled up for a nap somewhere.

We still have the same conductor, Sarah, with a student. He didn't do too well yesterday, because everything got thrown at him, including a train that bore no resemblance to the switch list we were originally using. The broken retarder, which was supposed to be repaired on Tuesday, actually came back to me at the beginning of my shift Thursday. As I later found out, it went through the motions, but wouldn't hold much; they didn't adjust it after installing the new arm. It's OK now. Then my computer at work went down at about the time I wanted to tie up (well, Heck, I was ready to tie up about as soon as I got there yesterday!).

Anyway, it's off to the dentist again before work today. By the time I get to work I should be in the mood to really gnaw on someone--I mean, something. Quod mortuamus te salutamus, or something like that. (They're only taking impressions today afaik.)

The weather has finally gotten cool encough to do some exterior painting, so I have to go for now. Still beats a visit to the dentist.

...And now mid day it has really turned out great....Just finished doing my job on the yard with the John Deere and the humidity is down and sky mostly clear and temps not up to 90...but it still was a bit warm on the tractor. But if it continues, we'll have a very pleasant holiday weekend.

Well all, I'm off for the weekend. Headed down to Canon City to celebrate the holiday. Festivities will include a trip on the Canon City and Royal Gorge Route, which I haven't seen since 2000, so I'm looking forward to that. Hope you all have a happy, safe (and cool!) holiday.
